Reference Resource
Comprehensive in-depth reference tool - this is how the book has been characterized by a university professor using it for his course instruction. I concur. Amazing amount of practical detail in one refernce. Dimensionally a bit large and gangly but likely would require mulitple volumes if in standard book size. The web page link is a nice feature given the fast moving topic. Cleanroom reference is out of date and could be updated given the reference focus. Text discusssions well written and unusually pleasant to read.

A quick review
A great book that gives a quick overview from contact printing and projection aligners (1970's and early 1980's technology), but it spends most of its time and effort on the more recent (2000's) technology and processes.There was information packed into each page, providing both an overview and detail into the more recent development of lithography.It helps to have some previous exposure to lithography as well as the topics of physics, optics, and chemistry since the book will build on all of these subjects to provide the basis of the newer technology.

The book provides a great overview of the Electron Beam Lithography, which was the material of interest for me.Material is conveyed in great detail while the meaning of the material is not necessarily constricted to theexperts.As an undergraduate student, I found the material readable.Iwas also able to understand most of the information well and as a result Ibelieve I have a good base of knowledge about lithography.I woulddefinitely recommend this book to other students. ... good but may be difficult for beginners
For some derivations, I will suggest "Principles and applications of optical communications" by Max Ming-Kang Liu. It is more complete and easier to read for beginners.

I found this book quite useful for training Electrical engineers in the high speed fiber optics industry. The discussion ofdevice physics and device characteristics,their impact on device performance such as e.g.;turn-On delay ,relaxation oscillation frequency,etc. was really handy.I strongly recommend this book to all managers and senior design engineers who need to train new electrical engineers in the field of device physics.I look forward to 2nd and third edition of this book as the years go by.Good investment.

bible for photonics engineers
This book is a masterpiece. The book is a great tutor whether you are a novice or an expert in the field. Great attention has been paid to detail (which is illustrated in the fact that you will find almost no typos in the book). Many different topics such as gain calculation, reflectors, waveguides, etc. have been comprehensively treated at both a qualitative and quantitative level. This leaves the reader with not just the methodology for computing parameters for lasers using equations, but also an intuitive understanding of the physical phenomena involved in making the calculations (via the qualitative analysis). The authors provide a unique perspective to many a phenomena that have been routinely treated by other texts. This is definitely one book for the archives!!! ... Read more

A broad investigation of semiconductor laser physics
The editor G. P. Agrawal and his colleagues provide in this book a series of excellent papers focusing new applications of AlGaAs (and others) semiconductor lasers. It ranges from the basic intra-cavity equations tooptical biestability, four wave mixing, the laser synthetizer and opticalcommunications. OK for laser theory, NOT for printer repair
This book is for understanding on how the laser printer works. Unfortunately a printer is very complicated mechanically and taking them apart is very tricky. This book is not practical. It doesn't emphasizetypical mechanical and electrical assemblies that need repair andreplacement due to wear and tear. Such as paper pickup rollers, fuserlamps, maint kits etc. It also doesn't have any disassembly procedures andexploded diagrams that will help you. There is no discussion on importantprinter options, such as ethernet print servers, PostScript, duplexers,power envelope feeders. I highly recommend getting a printer service manualfor your specific model instead, for example a HP single model Servicemanual. They are often on eBay auctions and printerworks.com .

If this book falls short, what are readers looking for? Something resembling (but better quality than) a Chilton "shop manual" covering repair of printers and possibly recycling of cartridges?
