Mac-Oriented Book
Although the Amazon editorial review calls Williams a Mac expert, it doesn't make clear that this book is pretty exclusively Mac-oriented.Some of it will be useful to Windows users, but there are surely other, similar font books on the market more useful for Windows users.If I had realized this before I started making notes in the margins, I would have returned it.

Everything you wanted to know about fonts...
As a typesetter in a large corporation I found this book very helpful when I recently had to organize our fonts on 12 computers. It clearly explains the difference in the various types of fonts and how to use them properly. It also covers in detail all the different type management software (ATM, Suitcase, etc.). After speaking with several designers, it appears that fonts can be the single biggest nightmare and this book would be an asset to any designers library.

Not so good...
I bought Robin's book aobut 2 weeks ago and I have read it over and over.I found that the book was not helpful in getting my fonts organised.I am left with fundamental questions unanswered and a lot of frustration.I am still looking for a book that will show me how to sort my fonts what to keep what to throw and how to do it.This book has some good back ground informationon the benefits of ATM, and the history but what about open fonts, and master fonts? The best book ever written on advanced Flash techniques.
I bought this book a number of years ago, when I was struggling with creating effective animations, and Actionscript really intimidated me. Right now I'm enjoying a productive career doing professional Flash work, and I wouldn't be as proficient at Flash if it weren't for this book. Very Good Book
After being intrigued by Macromedia Flash and learning as much as possible via internet and the included tutorials, I felt I had a pretty good grasp of Flash.Still eager to learn more, I found this book and I must say that I couldn't have made a better choice.It was exactly what I needed to get to the next level, and the way the concepts were presented couldn't have been done in a more pleasing way.On a scale of 1 to 10 on Flash advancement, I'd say I went from a 4 to a 7.5.This is a definate keeper.

Avoidthis book.
Usually Peach Pit Press is good for the money, however, this
This book is all over the place without bad focus
Don't waste the money this book is all over the place. One would have to thumb constantly back and forth to find information, every example starts you from the beginning, material is extremely redundant. And to add insult to injury where it is redundant different verb-age is used making you question what you have read in previous chapters, thus making you go back and double check what you have already read. Book also wastes a lot of space in pictures instead of straight forward instruction, many pages are wasted only showing one step of example, space waster. Case in-point, go to index and look up Transition, creating, not there, author runs on about editors and doesn't focus on getting to work immediately. I can't believe someone has taken an Apple product, something that's meant to be easy and simple to use, and created such a confusing guide to it.

Not bad.
This book answered many questions I had on WebObjects. The only thing I don't like is the screenshots are from a Windows environment. I would love to have screenshots from both Windows and MacOS.

A very good starter
It is a very good starter for learning WebObjects. .... A step in the right direction.
This book is somewhat equivalent to the WebObjects Development 1 course offered by Apple.It might be for WebObjects 4.5, but everything in the book can be done in 5.0 without any large hassles (be sure to note that NSGregorianDate has been replaced by NSTimestamp).I haven't seen the "WebObjects5 for Java" book, however if you are wanting to learn WebObjects and looking for a book to set you on your way, this book will be a definite help.I suggest you read Apple's "WebObjects for HTML" PDF, then this book, then look at the old "EnterpriseObjects Framework Development Guide" PDF (listed under WO4.5 in Documentation on Apple's website) to get a clear view of what you are doing with regards to development with WebObjects.Read more

The Book That Digi Should Ship
This book by Roback is something of a godsend. Not that the manaual that came with ProTools was shabby, it's just that the manual assumes the reader is already at some level of proficieny. Concise Overview for Beginners
This book offered an excellent overview for yours truly who found himself starting completely from scratch.A combination of read, try out, screw up, read, try out some more left me recording songs in a matter of a couple hours after getting things installed.Basic yet essential insights into getting the most out of your recording are included as well including adding width, depth and height to your sounds, creating space for instruments with EQ and ordering effects properly.One caveat, once you get into connecting external devices through OMS (Mac users) and how to take advantage of all the midi features you will find yourself in the lurch.Got on a first name basis with the techies at digidesign attempting to route my midi properly and had to figure out a lot of the features myself.Attention: move midi regions in "region" edit mode only!Anyway, the basics are there, however.As for everything else, between reading and experimenting, you're in business. ... Waste of money
This book is the worst tutorial Illustrator book out there. It doesn't explain how or why. Not a good book for those new to Illustrator like I am.

This Book Suits My Style
I went to "that big book store" and sat down with a small pile of Illusrator books. This was the only one that seemed to fit my style which is that I want to learn tasks only as I need them. I do NOT want to read through any long explanations or background. If right now I want to know how to put type in a circle then that's ALL I want to know and I want to find it very fast. Save your book budget.
Another talk around the problem SAP book. Software included is obsolete. Misleading descriptions of tables and fields. Won't help you write a report if your life depended on it. Methodology is fine, but who needs another methodology book?

Don't buy it for the software!
I purchased the book about 6 months ago and have spent a lot of that time (on and off) trying to locate the author and/or his company (which seems to have gone out of business by the way). Very good methodology

Perfect Introduction
If you know absolutely nothing about Filemaker, this book is easily the best. Some may pass it up because of a lack of practice files. However, I think that is a plus. I found it easier to develop my own practice database(s) as I went along.
Very good and easy to use book
I knew almost nothing about FileMaker Pro but needed to learn it fast for a project.I read this book in about 5 hours and after that, I could do all but the most coplicated things in FileMaker.I have a Mac and this book is great for Mac or Windows.Unless you need to do very complicated scripts and formulas, this book is great for you.I hope he updates it for FMP 7.All in all, read this book and you will gain a skill you never knew how useful it could be.I make databases for all sorts of things now, and it just takes me a couple hours.

Very concise, easy to understand
We are on a newer version of SAP, so I had to adapt some of the screen shots. It's easy to understand. The tutorials and code examples were helpful.

This is really awful !
We are running version 4.5, which I believe is a newer version than that presented in the book. Few of the screen shots shown in the book match what is on our system.Some screens do not even remotely resemble what is shown in the book.It's extremely difficult for someone who knows next to nothing about SAPscript to learn from a book that takes you step by step, if there is no way that you can follow those steps on your system. Very good for SAPscript beginners

Nice Overview and Explanations
I was very pleased with this book. For a low cost, it provides you with a comprehensive explanation of Dreamweaver's capabilities and how to achieve the effects you want. As the title suggests, you get excellent pictures tohelp explain the concepts. Like all Visual QuickStart books, EXCELLENT.
I read it cover to cover in less than 3 days.I went from knowing "0" about how to fully use DW to giving advice and tech support to co-workers.I even upgraded to DW 2.0 because I read a friend'sQuickStart book for 2.0 and saw all the new features.Just about all ofthe VQS books are GOLD!The local university requires its Graphic Designstudents to buy them too :)

A good book for the intermediate user
This book is very good for understanding concepts of relational databases, layout design etc. In other words, the nuts and bolts of Filemaker database design. It is useful for anyone with more than an elementary grasp of FMPto take the next step.However it is quite thin in the advanced area, withminimal explanations of how to get the most out of FMP with scripting,automation and advanced calculation: this is the real power behind FMP andmost users have or will never tap into this power. If you are looking tomove that next step, I suggest looking elsewhere.

I don't usually leave comments on books I've purchased through Amazon or anywhere else, but I felt compelled to do so on this one. Not only did I gain a good understanding of SAP Basis Administration, but the first hand knowledge shared from theauthor who's been there - done that, was very helpful. The hints and tips gained from this book will go into my own personal "cookbook" for sure. Nice work, for once I feel like I got my money's worth.

Love the book!
I've been doing Basis Admin work for over 5 years now, and thought I knew just about all there was too know about it. This book showed me some hints and tips I never even thought of, and you can bet I'll use them in my job. Finally, a book written by someone who's been there and done it, and not by a professional writer who's never even touched SAP. Good work Robert!

Come On.
I actually bought this book thinking it would be helpful, but all the info is in the online documents!!! The book isn't even advanced. It shows you how to do simple things, nothing advanced. This book is useless now. Just read the online documents, and download the sample code.

Poorly done, especially aftertaking the code apart
When I first bought this book , I was excited because I thought it would help in making QuickTime on the Windows Side easier to program. The CD is completely worthless , it doesn't even contain all the needed headers for quicktime. Instead of working code samples and native projects to experiment with there are code snippets that are in text files, some of which have bugs that no C/C++ compiler would of let through. Also there is not a mapping in the chapter to tell you which text file goes with which chapter, and you spend a lot of time GREPing through the CD. The explanations are bad, for example the chapter on creating movies just outlines the code. I would suggest you try getting the MacTech series of Quicktime articles where there is an actual explanation and WORKING sample code.
