5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Learning iMovie & iDVD
iMovie and iDVD are two of the iLife programs that ship withyour Macs. Many folks think that, because they are the "simple or basic" programs, that they don't have a lot of features or can't do professional looking movies.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than I expected
Because the book has such bad ratings I really didn't want to take a chance on it, but there's precious little out there on Bryce and I take the view that a few good ideas or hours saved will pay for even a marginal book.No.Not this time. The book is almost unreadable so I can't swear that there's nothing good in it somewhere, but I looked for as long as I could bear the poor writing and the outright mistakes.A very disappointing waste of time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just look at the cover!
This book stinks like rotten radishes! Just look at the cover! This image is supposed to inspire us? As many of the other reviews suggest, Mr. Mortier is a Bryce novice. Don't waste your time or money on this book, buy the Version 4.0 by Susan Kitchens! Yes I know, it's an older version, but it all still applies, and the new things that aren't covered can be found by surfing the net. For more on Susans book, read the glowing reviews for her 4.0 book. The difference could not be more evident! I have been a multimedia producer for over 25 years, I know Bryce very well, it is a staple in my toolset, and Susan Kitchens book is my "Bryce Bible". Buy it, not this poor attempt.

1-0 out of 5 stars R. Shamms Mortier great artist but bad writer
I have never seen or read anything from this author that is good in any way. He took a simple program and turned it into a nightmare I have been using Bryce for years (3 thru 5). I'm an advanced user and I couldn't make heads or tales of what he was even trying to say. If you want a good book that will start simple and work its way up the ladder get (Real World Bryce 4 by Susan Kitchens ) this is by far the best book out there and it works with 5 also not enough diffrence between 4 & 5 to let it bother you. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good intermediate book
I found this a very useful adjunct to Stars and Child's book Learn Filemaker pro 7.Agree with the other reviewer that the screen shots are too small to read at a comfortable distance. Also unlike Stars' book the examples are not real tutorials. For me, I found the explanations clear and help me understand filemaker better.Would place SAMS Learn filemaker pro in 24 hr very low inmy choice of books for learning filemaker. It hindered my learning more than helped.Filemaker IS NOT a easy program to master. It takes time, diligence, lots of references and help from others.Avoid going it alone if possible.

2-0 out of 5 stars So-So
This is another UNvisual QuickPro Guide from Peachpit Press:the screen shots are way too small and must be viewed outside in bright sunshine. At about half-off list price, a case can be made for purchase, if you're a FileMaker junkie (like me). It's (unfortunately) intermediate level, not advanced (as it claims). It covers indexing options, conditional valuelists, textstyle functions, mass update of serial numbers, script parameters, bulk e-mail, importing with scripts, and communicating with a Palm. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Buy
This book is awesome. I would recommend this book to anybody who has ever looked at Maya and felt overwhelm by all the menus and features. This book gives you information about the tools and menus and some uses of the tools in plain English with plenty of black and white visuals.
3-0 out of 5 stars boring and dry
i felt this book was really boring and uninformative. it was required for a class, and i bought a new one, becasue it just didnt describe things in an engaging manner.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wish I had my money back.
This book was a waste of time and money. This is the worst technical book I have ever read. The second bullet on the the cover states, "Learn how to develop and intergrate the SD module with your existing SAP R/3 system.".This is very misleading as this book is nothing more than a high-level overview of SD and goes into no detail on "how" to develop anything.I also have the MM book by the same name and it also is worthless.

1-0 out of 5 stars No customising!
I should have paid more attention to the title. It's called "Administering" SAP R/3 and not "Customising". It explains how to use the different SD functions not how to implement them.Unfortunately, it cannot be recommended to users either because it is tootechnical and does not explain things in a comprehensive manner. There aresome books that emphasise the business process and help you decide how toimplement this in SAP. This is not one of them. This book is smack in themiddle of a no-mans land. It's no good for customising, no good for usersand no good for planning business processes.1-0 out of 5 stars Publication of the SAP online help!
This book offers no help at all in configuring the SD module.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Adaptation of help file not quite a QuickStart
I would have rated this book a one. I settled for two stars as I did actually learn a few things from it. This book is quite obviously an adaptation of a FreeHand 10 book (which I understand Sandee has written) as there are some remnants of v.10 functionality that has been changed and updated in MX. Ms. Cohen seems to have missed these. Inconsistencies, unnecessary repetition, gaping holes (Polygon options in the Object panel) and incorrect information - Page coordinates start at the top left of the page?Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative But Poorly Written
There's a lot of relevant information in this book, but the authors have a repetitive, rambling, and sometimes vague style that makes it anything but a pleasure to read. You really have to work to sift the wheat from the chaff here.It could be easily condensed to half its size without losing any information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well written
I don't normally comment, but I don't know what book the reader from Minn. was reading. I'm guessing he meant to review a different book. This is not a "German" book at all. This is the clearest, best written bookon SAP I've read, and I've read most of them. If you need an introductionto the business logic behind SAP, this is the book to buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Need English Version?
This is my third book on SAP R/3. This book is another example of poorly written book on SAP. Though the topics are categorized very carefully and intelligently, the text in the book is in the language that requires'translation in English.' The terms are either ill defined or if defined, then they have been used inconsistently. It was hard to get out the conceptbehind a topic, since authors give scattered information without focusingon main idea. Also, authors could have written the business processes (SAPmodules) in more like step-by-step (or recipe) method, rather than in'composition' format. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Especially for novice computer users
Macromedia FreeHand 10 For Windows And Macintosh by Sandee Cohen is the latest in the superbly presented "Visual Quickstart" guidebook series and swiftly teaches the basics of Macromedia FreeHand computer applications by relying heavily on screenshots and pictures rather than extensive verbal explanations. A marvelous reference for learning Freehand quickly and easily, and enhanced with a special chapter concerning Flash animations, Macromedia FreeHand 10 For Windows And Macintosh is very highly recommended, especially for novice computer users who tire of puzzling their way through excessively long textual descriptions.

5-0 out of 5 stars What did you expect?
I have not been disappointed with any visual quickstart guide. This was the first one I purchased and it's one of my favorites. This teaches you blends, paths, all the basics, and even flash animations!4-0 out of 5 stars Freehand 10 VSG

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
An excellent book that gives a good insight of the business processes and business objects of different SAP R/3 modules. I urge the author to write a new edition of the book that reflects the recent development in SAP.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent high level overview
My company has been an SAP customer for years, but there was still a lot of mystery about what SAP is and why it's good. This book lays it out in perfect terms, integrating both the C-suite point of view and the IT perspective. I highly recommend this book to anyone working with SAP. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A practical and highly recommended instructional
Digital Video Editing With Final Cut Express by Charles Roberts (Assistant Professor, communications Media Department, Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, Massachusetts) is a practical and highly recommended instructional and reference manual concerning how to use Apple's Final Cut Express editing software for optimum digital video results. Covering not only the software interface, but such issues as proper setup of Macintosh and Final Cut Express, an explanation of video hardware, means for troubleshooting a wide variety of problems and much more, Digital Video Editing With Final Cut Express combines black-and-white illustrations and screenshots with easy-to-follow narration to better instruct and draw out the skill and creativity of amateur and professional digital film makers alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars a valuable book for any NLE user
Charles Roberts' "Digital Video Editing with Final Cut Express" is more than just another software manual. His insight into MAC OS and organizing workflow is invaluable to even the most experienced NLE user and the appendices clearly explain complicated technical concepts behind digital video and the hardware needed to create a working system for editing. I am already 'sold' on Apple's Final Cut Pro but Roberts' conversational style of writing and solid technical knowledge make an already accessible software even more so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read intro to the basics and beyond
You won't go wrong with this book! It assumes no knowledge and takes you through the whole editing process. The appendixes alone, with advice on purchasing DV decks, the hardware you need for setup, plus tips and tricks makes it worth the price. I also feel more confident as an editor--the book covers Express as the vehicle for teaching about editing principles. It goes beyond the usual button pushing software books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An afternoon and this book means you'll master the program
I've had iPhoto for about a year, but wasn't familiar with any of the features save importing my photos from my camera. After a few hours with this book, however, I've mastered the program and received a lot of kudos on the improved quality of my shots.5-0 out of 5 stars Little missing in this manual
The Missing Manual series has been around for quite some time, but I have never felt the need to buy one until I started doing some serious work with iPhoto. iPhoto 2: The Missing Manualwas a good volume to assist.5-0 out of 5 stars From a "new to this stuff" perspective - great book
Can you imagine a software manual that makes you feel smart, not dumb? David Pogue's iPhoto 2: The Missing Manual does just that. It's written in a way that's easy to understand without being condescending. The straightforward style is well organized, sometimes humorous and always informative.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars FileMaker Pro 6 Advanced for Windows and Macintosh: Visual Q
Don't waste your money on this one. Although titled "Advanced" it assumes the reader is a total idiot and absolutely unfamiliar with FileMaker. Steps are spelled out so painfully click by click that it is impossible to follow what is being explained. The screen shots are too small to be legible. A real waste of money and printing paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference
Wow!
2-0 out of 5 stars Only Somewhat Helpful in Mastering FileMaker
I've purchased numerous Peachpit Visual Quickbooks. Most of them are excellent. This one, however, is deficient is some respects. The most glaring problem is the puny size of the screen shots--you need a magnifying glass to see them! Also, the book is not coherent; it starts off with a fine concept for a school course/student/instructor database, but then doesn't work with this example throughout the book. There are no sample files on CD or diskette or on a Web site that I can find. The only saving grace is that the price of the book is reasonable, and you may pick up a few useful tips.Let's hope the version for FileMaker 7 is better. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for a reference, but for actually learning....?
To be fair, I'm only halfway through this book at the moment, but I can't really say that I've "learned" anything more than I would have just playing around with the program on my own and using the online help.It doesn't seem to me that there was much thought put into a logical progression from one section to another, building certain skills off of previously-learned skills.Just about every section has a "see page xxx" reference on it, and most of those refer to pages much later in the book.So if you are actually trying to teach yourself, you are constantly skipping forward to successive lessons. In trying to learn tools on page 13, I have to skip forward to page 190.The lessons are just very haphazardly arranged. Also, there are several errors, saying "circle" when the illustration shows a square, typos, bitmapped illustrations. For example, in the lesson on deleting pages, one screen capture shows the author wanting to delete page 255.In the next screen capture, the Framemaker popup window is showing "Deletion of page 256 cannot be undone. OK to continue?"Mostly just boneheaded little things like that, but I would expect more.Like I say in the subject line, this may be better for a quick reference, not so much for actually trying to become competent and confident using FrameMaker.Maybe get this book to introduce yourself to the absolute (and I mean ABSOLUTE) basics, then get another book to actually put those skills to use. ... This is basically a poor rewrite of the on-line SAP documentation. There is nothing to learn from this book. I have found that all of these "Administering" books from Que are waste of paper. Spend you money elsewhere.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough description
The book is not so informative who would like to understand the detailed functions of SAP PP module. The book contains no picture or screen shot. It's dealt with various functions but it doesn't seem to be enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Big job, great results

2-0 out of 5 stars Missing info, poor organization, good basic resource
I've been using this to help learn Dreamweaver and while it's a good resource for basic information, it's definitely a mixed experience.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dreamweaver
Deamweaver can be a complicated program, but from what I heard from other reviews this book breaks it down. Dreamweaver is like Frontpage only it is a bit more complex. My Web Page Class starts learning dreamweaver next quarter so, this book will be a life saver for me.

2-0 out of 5 stars Let's get real
While this review is still basically correct it needs to be ammended because the appendeces on the web are not complete. When looking for an appendix Q, which was referred to in the book, the online appendeces only included A - N. The publisher referred me to the author, but the email addresses given only return errors. Very disappointing. The rating has dropped from 5 stars to 2 for this reason.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Try the click inside feature
In response to H. Laurent's review... correct this is NOT a book for begineers. There's a whole bunch on the market, so we wanted to be different. If you click on the Look Inside feature, you can read sample pages, an index, and most importantly the back cover. We wrote this book for frustrated pros, and its labeled User Level: Intermediate - Advanced.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
Indeed this book gives tons of small tips and I saw many tricks. It is fun, fast and easy to read. However, this book is a list of tricks in alphabetical order and it does not help me to learn how to use Final Cut Pro. I'm at the beginner stage and this book is not appropriate for my needs. When I will be able to use the program, I may come back to this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book that gives more than the basics!
Wow! I've been working on FCP for over three years and thought I had a pretty good handle on it, but I learned so much from this book.Every other editing book I've bought feels like a basic intro to editing. This book actually gives more advanced tips and some great ideas for working with effects. And the presentation is lighthearted and easy to read through. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who already has experience with Final Cut Pro. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I've looked at most of Office for Mac books, and this one knocks me out.Very clear and thorough.I'm hoping they continue it for 2004.

1-0 out of 5 stars My advice: do not buy this book
I purchased this book last year for my wife who uses Office at work on a PC and at home on a Mac.She frequently has trouble figuring out how to do something at home that she does every day at work.Certainly this is due to variations in "the same" Microsoft product. However, every time she has turned to "The Missing Manual" she can not find the answer to what she feels is a simple problem.Read more
