just what i was looking for
before i purchased this book,i read all the reviews and they helped me out tremendously!!i just purchased my mac and was totally lost! this book takes you step by step which was very helpful for a first time computer user. now i'm excited about my computer now that i know how to use it. if you're a first time user and know nothing about macitosh then this is the book for you.

A Must Have Reference Source
As we have all come to expect from Robin Williams, this book is written in a clear, precise manor. The illustrations are all very helpful.I particularly like the way the windows of each application are illustrated with details about each item within the window.
Cool Mac Apps
Book is very informative, easy to understand and use. I bought this book for school (I don't own a mac), but there were many things I learned about iTunes (only non Mac program I use) I wouldn't have known without reading this book. Definitely would recommend for anyone wanting to get the most out of their Mac.

how to do what i know to do w/ i-life 04
i bought this book along w/ 2 other "how (not) to video editing books specializing in FCXpress-i'm sorry i did-if the dog hadn't p'd on them i'd send them back-why?- I used to be a pogue fan till the repetion started-jim heid's guide is why i got into the mac & imovie in the 1st place-simple to learn & to the point with immediate results( highly reccomended). I found Guy's book lacking in some of the most important sound upgrades-strange since his claim to fame was in audio (i-pod) i also don;t like to be told to go look for imfo somewhere else-at least J. heid gives you a link to goto-asfor the FCXpress-after reading 101 tricks- i can already do them w/ 3rd party plugins & still have the ease of imovie. No put downs intended-just dissapointed-when will a video guy 1st / computer challenged-how to book be written ?

The Guy Hart-Davis iLife book was my next logical choice to further my Apple computer education. Also, I wanted the most out of my recently purchase iPod. Finally a practical guide to iLife'04 including Garage Band
Good tips on all the parts of iLife'04, including intro to Garage Band, which I had just taken a look at. E.g., a tip tells which formats iPhoto can use, including BMP and PDF files, as well as my old PICT files. Good cautions and helpful points for both iPhoto and iMovie 4. Pro Tools Book
This book gives you everything you need to know about pro tools.It is very thorough and almost makes me not need to take the class I'm taking!!!Also very easy to understand and placed in small enough sections to comprehend.Very good!

not much more than a basic ProTools manual.
If you do not want to waste your time printing out the .pdf files of the ProTools manual, this book may be for you.It gives you the how-to's, but without much extra in the way of tips and real world applications of the various tools, which is what I am looking for.For me, this was a waste of money and I still need a decent book on home recording. YMMV.

Very basic, nothing much more than the users manual with a few tips thrown in.Instructions tell you how to do things, but not why.Settings are not explained.Some sections are repeated twice (how to create a new track for example) Well organized, but not helpful at all.No hookup diagrams for TDM systems. So glad somebody wrote it!
As a video producer in a small band, I bought this book for one and one reason only: To learn how to use A.Pack. There is no info anywhere on the web that tell you how A.Pack works, but I heard on Apple's DVD list that this book was a good resource for making AC3 files. It is, and it's even better than I imagined. Lacks some vital information
In his book ver 1.5 Martin covers scripts and play all buttons.However in ver 2.0 he does not cover scripts in the book but has you go to web for that information.Plus he does not cover scripts with enough information to feel you understand it. In a slim field, this is pretty much all there is.
This book was definitely helpful to me; but it didn't expand a whole lot further than the 500+ page manual included with the software. Some additional helpful information on creating appropriate graphics, but I didn't learn a whole lot. I'm waiting for a really good DSP 2.0 book to come out. But until that happens, this is really the best you can do. ... Read more

MOST beneficial of ALL
When those where I work struggled with learning specific techniques, various on site books on SAP and ABAP were checked. This book, owned by our SAP contractor, was loaned to us. We agree with the contractor, who said it is by far the best book on SAP's R/3 Applications with ABAP.Book is out of print, but we prefer it (regardless of the older version) over all the others we have.We're buying two more copies because our SAP contractor wants his back. (This book is FAR TOO VALUABLE not to be updated with new version info and put back into print)

ABAP programmer
This book was used by SAP as the textbook for their workbench class when I took it in 1997. I still have and refer to it once in a while today. For a beginner who needs a good introduction to ABAP syntax it is still good. One downside is that it uses the SE38 editor instead of the new SE80 version. But that does not stop you from doing the examples.

One of the worst I've ever read.
After three years of ABAP consulting I don't know why I haven't burned this book.I got it in an official SAP training class, and it was written by two of the company's software engineers, but it is one of the worstexamples of software writing I have ever seen.Many of the keywords of thelanguage are not even in the index, and most of the subject matter iscovered only in broad strokes, meaning that the book does not tell you howto do much of what is really available in the language, not even point outthat anything else might exist.It was only by reading existing code andtrying to use this book to find out what it meant that I came to realizehow inadequate it is. ... Excellent final user manual
In few words: If you are not a SAP consultant (and you are not expected to be so) and you need to take up working on SAP as a final user next monday: read this book. On monday, this easy to read book, will allow you to showoff as an experienced SAP user. The explantions "on the screen"showed by the book let you directly to the outcome you are looking for: toeasily perform usual tasks in order entering, price updating, productionplanning, and so on.

Pow-Wow!
By the time I finished CHAPTER 6 (no worries, they are all very short chapters), I feel as if I have used SAP! It's amazingly simple (yet comprehensive) in its explanation and you don't need to be a technologicalbuff to understand SAP/ this book! Highly recommends this INCREDIBLE bookto all out there who have always wanted to know about SAP but have noexperience with it! Simple enough for the basics of SAP

If you need to understand Maya
It's a good book to use as a reference, but not to learn how to use Maya for modeling and animation as a professional. If you need a place to search about 'how does a specific tool work', this is gonna be a nice choice.
Good for reference BAD for tutorial
With a limited budget i thought this was the best buy around. Think again! While this book does have excellent step by step picture references (as is admiringly the case in the Visual QuickStart series) it has no real projects or TASKS to get ones teeth into and actually CREATE.
A great jump start
Talk about "get up to speed quick". This book does a great job in skimming the surface of Maya with detailed tutorials and images. The chapters covers everything from Modeling, Lighting, Rendering and Dynamics. I worked with 3D MAX before and decided to make the switch to Maya, I am a strong customer to the Visual QuickStart Guide series and this book reinforces my decision.If you wanted to start using Maya quick, This is the book for you.I will be buying more books from this author in the future. ... Evolution of older Macs
While this book doesn't include anything made in the past several years, it does have detailed descriptions of how the older Macs came to be. It's a large book and full of photographs as well as detailed text explanations. I got mine in September 2001 and regularly study it from time to time. Every time I read it I learn something new.
apple! yay!
mmm... great book. a glaring problem with the book
This book offers a comprehensive look at Apple's design, to be sure - and it's a story worth telling. However, the presentation is fundamentally flawed in that it reads like propaganda from the Jobs machine. The fact of the matter is that Jobs had very little to do with design at Apple, or with anything else that Apple did well, for that matter. Very useful but not perfect
Could have a bigger variety of examples, not only products and clients. There are some intellectuals who use the web too. It left me with questions about certain matters that could be answered by the book easily.

Advanced?Maybe if this is your second day at it...
Having worked with Dreamweaver since version 2, I went out looking for something to get me beyond the basics that every tutorial covers.I saw "Advanced" and thought, ah-hah! I've found it! Better for beginners/intermediates
The word "Advanced" in the title may be a little misleading, but that's the worst thing I can say about this book. I am, by trade, a system administrator who wants to dabble in web frontends for databases. I think that makes me a beginner. Specifically, I have a simple Excel spreadsheet I've converted to a simple SQL 2000 database, and I want a simple frontend to update and query its records. Oddly to me, I could not find any direction from any of the Dreamweaver MX books with "Fundamentals" or "For Beginners" or "Introducing" in the titles. Some might say database connections is an advanced feature of MX, but I don't think so. Before I read this book, I didn't even know what ASP or VBScript was, really. The beginning of the book explains the different web technologies AND database technologies (wish I had used PHP and MySQL). Now I know the difference between JSP and Java and Javascript. After that introduction, they walk you through connecting to your database and setting up dynamic forms. It's all making sense now. I don't think you could depend on this book stand-alone without good ASP, HTML and SQL references, but it has been the best resource in my collection so far. ... Read more

The Quark book for the do-it-yourselfer
If you're like me, and you'd rather jump into a manual than sit in a classroom, then this Visual Quick-Start is for you.This is the fourth VQS book I've bought and it doesn't disappoint.Actually, I'm a Quark Xpress power user, but needed to train some non-design trained coworkers on basic Quark usage.The simple step-by-step sections are easily digested and build on each other as you progress.Alternately it serves as a great reference is you just want to learn how to do a single task.

An excellent tutor at my desk-side.
I bought this book as a last resort because my Computer Graphics professor told us we would need lots of tutoring in order to pass with good grades. I was totally "Quark illiterate" before taking this course and buying the book. Honestly, this book explains a lot more than a tedious 3 week course in class could. The book has taken me step-by-step through all the process of learning style-sheets and type-boxes. This is all stuff I would have never been able to learn if not for the book itself. Quark unveiled

Great Title
Finally an inexpensive reference manual that helps me understand Photoshop... I have several of Andy Anderson's other titles and, I have to admit that I am a fan. I've been to two of his seminars... to say that he loves Photoshop is an understatment... I've never met anyone with his understanding of the program. A Good Quick Reference Guide
This is not a book that goes into a lot of detail; it is useful though as a quick reference to the techniques in photoshop that you need to look up quickly and have a practical demonstration of how to apply. No color photos, now down and dirty tips for weird stuff but useful succinct basic guides.Read more

A Methodology for Systems Implementation
This book is actually a methodology for implementing a new system, no matter which one. So, main points covered are change process issues, pitfalls in the implementation process and ways to ensure the success froma organizational point of view. So, little technical or programming stuffis supplied apart from some generic structure of SAP. If that is what yourare looking for, this is a good book. Don�t come here fortechnical/programming stuff or even for an end-user manual.

The sub title is the real story here.
Wish I had picked this up earlier in my consulting career.The last 1/2 of the text could be applied to every ERP / MRP implementation I've ever been on.The authors do a great job documenting the "peopleissues" that often get left out.They discuss managing change,expectation setting, training, top management support.All those diffucult, often ignored , subjective "soft" stuff, that kills the spiritof the implementation team. You probably won't like the book if you're adie hard programmer.There's little technical programming here. But that'sgreat if you're new to SAP, and want a non technical , yet detaileddiscussion of the set up and data requirements.I also used it tounderstand where the integration points would be - tables and data types - when implementing JDE, and had to bring SAP manufacuring data over to JDEfinancials.Most recently, skimmed highlighted areas to prepare for aninterview. If I never install SAP, it was still an excellent investment inmethodology.

Top SAP book to understand processes
I'm a FI/CO consulant with 6+ years experiences, after reading the book I find there are still some areas and key points that I just ignored or left uncertain in the past, the authors Gerhard Keller and Thomas Teufel present their knowledge and ideas in a very structured and comprehensive way. Excellent Book
After you go thru this book, you will find a very clear picture on how SAP works is already in your mind. This book gives your detail explanation, so easy to follow it up. Highly recommend this books!
