5-0 out of 5 stars Very Complete and More Sample Questions OnLine
This book builds on the authors success in developing his predecessor book on passing the PMP test on your first try. This book applies the same techniques to the CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) test.
5-0 out of 5 stars First Try
I highly recommend studying this book if you are serious about being CAPM certified. I passed on my first try and would recommend after each chapter reading the associated chapter in the PMBOK. The two week insight trial that is included in the purchase of the new book is amazing. It allows you to test your knowledge in the various knowledge areas and take an extra simulated exam, the book also has one. I spent a 4 week period reading the book before I took the exam and it was well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent study material
The CAPM Exam - How to Pass on Your First Try - is the best book out there for exam preparation. The book takes the PMBOK material and translates into pieces that are easier to digest for exam preparation.I especially like the free trial to INSITE with the purchase of the book.I was able to take online practice tests before the actual test.I definitely recommend for people looking to pass on the first time around - as I did. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Time Management for Techies who get Interrupted Frequently
How many times do you get interrupted from your "main" task in a day?"Time Management for Techies who get Interrupted Frequently" could have been the title of this book. While the real title of this book is "Time Management for System Administrators," it is really useful for any techie who faces interruptions. And that's most of us!
5-0 out of 5 stars "TIME AFTER TIME!!"
Are you an IT worker? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Thomas Limoncelli, has done an outstanding job of writing a practical book for IT people who are early in their career, but also for industry veterans who will find these time management techniques to be equally useful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste Of Time
This is by far the worst business book I have read in recent years. It is hard to believe that Andy Grove actually thought that this material was worth putting into a book.As other reviews have said, this book at most should have been a short article in Business Week...but even then it would require some actual content to make it worth reading. The best part of the book is the quotes on the cover from Steve Jobs et al.It makes me wonder if they even read the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars save several valuable hours of your life- skip this book
Maybe I haven't read enough "management" books (though I do have an MBA), but if this is considered "great" for this genre- WOW. This entire book could have been summed up in a couple pages without losing any major points, but I guess you can't have a bestseller that way! One reviewer said it was too technical. Are you living in a cave? I found it condescendingly written- absurdly simple and dumbed down. Granted, it's over a decade old, but I doubt everyone was really that much stupider ten years ago.

4-0 out of 5 stars All Fear the Status Quo
Andy Grove has verbalized the mindset that we must all develop to survive in the 21st Century. While his idea of constantly looking over your shoulder has always been applicable, the speed of the Internet economyrequires that we do it much more frequently and penalizes us much morequickly if we do not.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource on Tablet PC
I really like the author's approach, since he actually gives both relevant technical information and provides the practical business practice.
3-0 out of 5 stars Tablet PC book not for learning the Tablet
This book is not for someone learning to really use the Tablet PC.It is about his system of organization and how to use the Tablet PC as a key device in organizing your life, as the title indicates.I was disappointed in the book overall as I was looking for a book that would educate the physicians I support in better use of the Tablet itself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Reminder for Professionals
As I read the book it reminded me of all the things I should be doing to keep my work organized. The tablet PC is a great tool which I encorporated into my daily routine prior to reading. This book gave me helpful hints on how to do things effectively and efficently on my tablet. The book is written using the beta and initial version of the tablet PC tools. If you purchase you must download the updates of Chapters 3 & 4.This update gives a better understanding of the current tools of the tablet PC.It is worth the money in time saved. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
Only few words to say that this book was very useful to let me introduce a clear project portfolio framework in the enterprise in which I work (bank, IT department).
5-0 out of 5 stars From Business Stratey to IT Action
Drawing from a wealth of success in balancing business requirements with IT solutions, the authors of "From Business Strategy to IT Action" have identified the elements required to keep IT budgets in-line with the overall goals of the business. As many IT managers know it is easy to get caught up in the swirl surrounding keeping the "lights on" and lose focus about using technology to bring value to the organization in ways that help achieve the goals necessary to move the organization forward.I particularly liked the chapter devoted to discussing the culture of an organization. As they point out, losing sight of the bottom-line is easy when organizations get hung up on the culture of the institution and continue to do things the old way rather than routinely evaluating the goals of the organization with an eye toward improvement. To quote them, "New Information Economics (NIE) is a set of practices and principles for moving from business strategy to IT action to bottom-line impact".To me this means staying focused on the business of the organization and not getting caught up in thinking that IT is in business for itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bottom Line --> Results
This book provides solid, rational, and most importantly, actionable guidance for managers and executives faced with the challenge of identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing their IT spend. The authors provide a concise, structured framework which leads the reader through a step-by-step process to make reasoned decisions about both steady state ("lights on") expenditures and new project investments. The writing style is clear, fluid, and easily digestible. Each chapter includes fact-filled charts and diagrams to make the concepts come alive, along with a chapter summary, targeted questions, plus additional reading references. From defining goals, asking the penetrating "right questions,"through charting a path to implementation, this truly is a guidebook to learning how to control spending while concurrently maximizing the impact on your bottom line. This book should be required reading before the beginning of your next planning cycle.Whether you've been in the IT business for a year, a decade or longer, you will undoubtedly benefit from the multiple layers of insight contained within this book.Note:I also recommend sales personnel absorb the concepts in this book -- if you understand how your customers are evaluating IT investment decisions, you can communicate the value your offerings will deliver in a manner which will better resonate with the decision maker. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for Every CIO
Excerpt from review on bsmDigest.com:
5-0 out of 5 stars Pragmatic and clear.
I have only one simple statement - where were you Mark when I started my IT career 17 years ago? Today I would have been a CIO! I highly recommend this book for those starting out their careers in IT as it gives a big picture look to the field. Own it and refer to the clear and relevant graphics in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Insightful!
In the fall of 2003, the Harvard Business Review published an article advancing the proposition that "IT doesn't matter." The article's author suggested that because IT was now a commodity, and everyone had it, it no longer conveyed any distinctive competitive advantage and therefore, strategically, did not matter. In fact, at many companies, IT doesn't matter as much as it should - not because it is a commodity that other companies also use, but because most companies don't get every potential benefit from their IT. To advance your business agenda effectively, make IT a real part of the business. Author Mark D. Lutchen shows managers, particularly CEOs and CIOs, why IT is not fully a part of business at the moment, and what it will take to turn IT into a competitive, strategic asset. We recommend this useful, well-written, clearly organized book to anyone whose job involves decisions on IT budgets, organization, investments or strategy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, someone puts the pieces together.
I have spent the past ten years making my living developing integrated & automated financial systems using Excel, Access, and VBA for accounting and finance departments. That said, I literally have dozens of Excel, Access, and VBA books on my bookshelf. This is the only book that I have ever seen that integrates Excel and Access. It of course uses VBA to accomplish much of this.

Do you use Microsoft Office to handle data? If you do, then this book is for you! Author Michael Schmalz, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that will show you how Access and Excel can work together to improve your reporting and data analysis.

Michael Schmalz's shows how to combine the two programs to get the best from both. All too often Excel and Access users remain separate; yet user interfaces exist which allow Access databases to be integrated with Excel's analytical features for maximum results. 4-0 out of 5 stars Philosophical (Textbook) exposition of InfoSec
If you're looking to get down into the nitty-gritty of infosec, for ways and methods of securing networks and systems, then this probably isn't the book you need. This is a textbook and so it overs a fairly high level viewpoint, even philosophical approach, to infosec. The granualarity just isn't there for the practising person to gain much from this in a substantive way.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the reviewer that has trouble comprehending...
If one can't understand the style of writing maybe one should not be in a CS 100 level course or even close to the college level! If anything, as reviewed earlier, I found this style made it easier to read a CS text... as a lot of the texts are just too technical; but rightfully so. This text was a relief from the standard curriculum required reading. You think this is bad? Try an English Comp reading essay or assignment. CS needs more of this if the discipline expects to recruit a wider spectrum of students, as science and engineering is already scarce with students as it is. Bottom line, if you're used to the technical reading of the CS curriculum, this book will serve as a reading relief as it is a fast and EASY read. As another reviewer stated, one weekend and this book is finished. If your trouble with reading comprehension is severe enough you should not be reading CS material to begin with - take a course in English and read some extra-curricula novels to build up reading skills first, like fiction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Overview
After finishing a first year sequence in CS I felt like I had accomplished a lot.. yet something was missing and I didn't know what. Before this past year I had virtually no real CS exposure and was thrown into the curriculum and was practically forced to progress at their speed and rate. Once the spring semester was over I immediately began to read this book and found it to be a very enjoyable read. It's so broad and easy to absorb that out of its eleven chapters I would complete two or three chapters in one sitting. I found that it really filled in holes left having gone from no experience in CS to finishing a first year University level curriculum. For a complete newbie, some concepts may be out of range but I don't think that should deter you. For someone like me having at least a years experience in CS I found it be a nice supplement to what I already know and a nice reinforcer on subjects I needed review as well as small introductions to material I may have not seen or looked into before. Definately keeping it in the personal library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!

Even if you don't have an Ebay business, this book is so informative for those of us who just don't understand the behind-the-business scene. My husband and I have had a business for years and FINALLY, I now understand what the heck an "S" corporation is and why we have one, as opposed to the "c" corp that we used to have. 5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Serves Its Purpose
I am prompted to write this review owing to the number of negative comments I have seen. I personally read the book and I found it very informative and easy to understand. Axapta is a huge application and it is not very easy to understand, just as how math is a huge and deep topic. However, learning math helps if you understand the fundamental topics. If you miss the fundamentals God help you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book - get a copy today.
This is an excellent book.It is comprehensive and well written. This book should be read by anyone who is either considering purchasing Dynamics AX or has recently purchased the product. All new users will learn a great deal of information from this book.In fact, all good resellers of Dynamics AX should include a copy of this book at no charge with a sales quote to a potential customer. If I had this book two years ago, I could have saved my company several thousands of dollars in consulting fees alone. This book is an excellent `jump start' to gain overall Axapta knowledge, and is a great value for the money. This book will become a `must read' for all Dynamics AX implementers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Trying hard to cover everything... but....
At first glance the book looks very impressive and promising; however you don't have to read many pages before the cold truth of the authors' dilemma hits you. Covering a product as huge as Axapta in less than 500 pages is impossible, so choosing the right level of detail is vital. The authors chose the same approach as the online documentation shipping with the product. They describe in a clear and easy digestible language the most important forms in great detail. The online documentation has rightfully been accused of not providing procedural information (Step-by-step descriptions of how to accomplish tasks spanning multiple forms) or overview information (How everything ties together). Unfortunately this book does not provide that information either. Since the page count is limited one could have hoped non-trivial information was prioritized. That isn't the case. This book is however more than just a rewrite of the online documentation. It contains many valuable and interesting insights where appropriate. Don't expect this book to give you a lot of new information; but it gives you the opportunity to bring it all to the beach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
Like most good books dedicated to buying and selling on eBay this book fits that category nicely. It is aimed at the more serious seller and goes into several deep layers on techniques and strategies to make your activities lucrative and profitable. In all I like this book because it does contain a lot of useful information at whatever lengths you decide to take you're your eBay activities. If you want to really get out there in the trenches, this book will accommodate that ambition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real "love-hate" relationship......
That's exactly what this book offers. You'll absolutely love the information the author offers, but you'll also hate yourself for not adding it to your eBay reference library sooner. The information discussed, and revealed, in this book will make you think, explore and create what you have wanted all those months you finally decided to be a successful eBay seller.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for powersellers & advanced users
The title of my review is not meant to suggest that this book won't work for beginners. It simply means that this is a book that ANY eBay user will be able to appreciate, even powersellers who assume there's nothing they can learn from a guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth The Money
I had my highlighter all over the pages of this book.Good information, a bit of fluff here and there, but overall very useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read.
A book all about making money as an independent Internet content creator. Good advice, lots of nuts-and-bolts stuff, and not too focused on the cartooning side (JD is a web cartoonist).

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone publishing on the web
Great tips, witty style,Certainly worth the price.Found 2-3 revenue streams I hadn't thought of through this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Newman
I absolutely have to admit that the book is very simple to read and understand but for my course sake, my professor has to use an additional book to give me the depth the course requires.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand w/out a lot of junk
The Indian Government has adopted this book to all of its University courses on the subject of security.Teaching them how to hack our systems ;)

1-0 out of 5 stars Give This Book a Miss
I'm sorry. I gave Newman 150 pages in the interest of fairness. But this is the worst textbook I've ever had in any class, and I've been going to school off and on for 44 years! It reads as if the guy was walking down the street with three or four hard copies of his manuscript on the way to the publisher, and fell down the subway stairs. Then, since he was up against a publishing deadline, he just shuffled the papers back together and submitted them for publication. Then, obviously, the publisher was in a big hurry, too, because nobody bothered to proof-read this abomination. I don't know very much about some of the subjects in this book, but the errors and ommissions on the subjects that I do know something about cast suspicion on all of the rest.IMHO somebody should confiscate Newman's keyboard, and he should be barred from writing ever again!Run from this book as fast as your little feet will carry you! Please note that Amazon's system doesn't allow a zero star rating, or that's what I would call this stinker. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars You're only choice.
The PMI approach in generalis complicated for the sake of being complicated. It reminds me of the IT guys I used to work with. Rather than just give a straight answer, they couch everything in a wordy overly descriptive soliloquy in order to seem important and smart. In the same way, the PMI took a relatively straightforward discipline such as Project Management and analyzed and 'decompressed' it to death in an attempt to seem scientific - in order to appear more impressive and legitimate. Well, if all of these corporate giants buy into it, we have no choice but to learn it and live it. And if you have to pass the PMP cert. test, this is the book you should be reading. NOTE: avoid the Dummies book like the plague.

4-0 out of 5 stars PMP Review
I have found this book and CD to be helpful in studying for the PMP exam as well as information about Project Management from a practical perspective. It is easy to read and well thought out.
5-0 out of 5 stars An engaging, user-friendly book
As a newcomer to project management, I was a skeptical about finding a book which would make the subject interesting and approachable. This book does both. Phillips's writing style is lively and engaging - he gives a sense of being with his reader every step of the way. Despite the fact that the book is more than 500 pages long, it is organized well and moves quickly. I was able to keep track of what I was learning through the summaries and key terms at the end of each chapter, along with the extensive glossary and appendix which condenses key ideas for the exam. The self-tests at the end of each chapter also allow the reader to interact with the text and practice what they've learned. After working through these, I felt well-prepared for the exam, as I found out from taking the practice version, included on the CD which comes with the book. Overall, the text is generous in what it offers for the price. It provides an effective, user-friendly approach to preparing for the PMP exam. Elizabeth Lee, Ph.D.
