good vision -- bad follow-through
I'm just now finishing up a semester teaching a CS0 class from this text.In a nutshell, I am teaching the same course next term, and I will not use this book again.Let me add a few useful things for the reader before I explain why.
broad scope across all of IT
The scope of Snyder's book is ambitious. It offers a grand sweep of teaching the basics of information technology. To a reader that will not major in this field. In other words, if this is a required text for one of your courses, then it may well be the last text in IT that some of you will ever use. Realistically, you will probably in later years have computer books, about whatever new hardware or software comes up. But those will usually be books far narrower in scope.

A 'dummies' text on steroids
This isn't by any means a definitive OSCommerce text, but it will give an EXPERIENCED programmer with a PHP/MySQL background a solid launch point for implementing an OSCommerce store.
Don't waste your money
This book is Wayyyyyyyyyyy overpriced, I've had it for 2 weeks and haven't learned a thing. Pick another book. You've been warned.

I found this bookreally helpful in setting up an online store using Oscommerce.
PHP has grown into an all encompassing language which is now the preferred choice for developing web based projects including many popular content management systems, database configuration front-ends and even e-commerce applications which can be configured to run out of the box. This book provides crucial information on the EDI - XML link that connects supply chain mgmt with RFID. Book provides an insight on the backone technologies that run today's supply chain management. RFID section is brief, it provides a nice overview of the RFID's potential future impact on the Supply Chain.

Don't do it like this
For an instructional designer the author spent a lot of time going over what not to do versus what to do. I found his condescending attitude put me off. The info however is helpful, but I'm sure there is another book that can more effectively convey the information.

Comprehensive and applicable
This book has been a wonderful addition to my library.I am using it to train a couple of non-instructional designers on how to design and develop quality training.It has provided an easy to read comprehensive guide.The icons throughout the book guide those that are infrequent designers in the most applicable sections of the book vs. those that a professional ID person would need to know.I highly recommend this book.

Clear and easy to follow

Great Practical Guide for improving your helpdesk
I am no longer a support manager. However, when I was managing a support department, this book was extremly helpful. It is an excellent source book for consultants as well as managers. It needs some updating related to ITIL.

Both authors are professors at the University of California at Berkeley.This book deals with how unchanging principles are being applied to the changing conditions and technologies of information marketing (software).
Very Practical

What a scam
The material is quite simple and the book is very light on content.
The "algebraic cloud" has lifted!!
In his book, Decision Making with Insight, Dr. Savage really does lift the algegraic cloud that hinders the learning of management science and modeling.I second the above remark, I wish I had this type of text when I was in MBA school.The examples are truely enlightening.
Outstanding Bang for the Buck!
I wish we had this book at Wharton.This is an excellent book on Monte Carlo modeling and optimization, among other things.You just can't beat the value of the book + software, and I personally like XLSim better than Crystal Ball because it gives you the EXACT SAME result, but in a much faster time frame and with far less complicated programming.Dr. Savage teaches you while you do the examples in the book.It is truly a great way to learn a complex, but very rewarding subject.You'll never do an IRR or NPV proforma analysis in the same way again. ... I've never read a book that sucks more than this one does
Pointless formulas, impossible to find actual definitions, book is full of outdated real world references (ex: referring to online purchasing as a new fangled idea). I've never been so confused by a text in my life. I DO NOT recommend this book. It was a required text for my service management class and NOBODY was happy with the text. It almost annoyingly uses Texas as a reference for nearly all analogies. The only thing good about it was how highly it spoke of Amazon.com!

Its implementable, I used it so much it needed recovering
This is not the first services management Text I have read or the First Management text. The imposed shake up in the health professions has created a need to take on new learnings in adiscipline I was not used too.However as I read I was able to understand and classify services. Thewholistic view given in the first chapters allowed me to define my purposeand mission, define the characteristics and benefits of my service andcreate a service package. I was able to apply this through the serviceconcept and focus on my delivery system creating a strategic plan centeredaround my clients. Its chapeters on quality allowed me to understand theconcept of quality its content and purpose in respect of my business andimplement a quality plan. It shed new light on the interactions betweenemployees, organisations andclients. This allowed me to create strategiesto improve employee satisfaction. The chapters on The physical facitityallowed me to redesign the physical environment of my service,improvingemployee and customer satisfaction. Capacity and demand and the handling ofwaiting times, is so important and the book takes time on these subjects.Conceptualy I was able to design and develope a service reflecting the typeand standard of service I was in. This would not have been possible withoutthe background theory, models and formulae supplied by the authors. Theypackage their message in a form I understood. The models and diagrams areparticularly good as are the referencing. Although the case studies weren'tthat relevant as I had my own organisation to test the readings on I stillfeel they would be valuable to the aspiring student, and it has changedforever my perception of the service encounter both as supplier andparticipant. The chapters and pieces on IT were important and its role incustomisation of services and identifying added value areas and potentialnew markets are not to be missed.Read more

Software Update in Simulation Modeling Using @RISK
Readers should note that until 11/2000 Simulation Modeling Using @RISK was shipped with an older version of the @RISK software.Customer reviews that reference software problems are all reviews of this older edition of the book.The current edition ships with @RISK 4.0; software that supports all newer versions of Excel and Windows.The text has been entirely updated to reflect this newest version of @RISK.

I rated this book earlier as "a reader from Spokane Wa.".I wish to append the earlier statement, and add that you can get current a demo version of @Risk software from Palisade that is outstanding.I was soimpressed that I purchased @Risk 4.0 from them, and subsequently ordered anumber of other books by Wayne Winston, as well.I think that it would beonly fair to retract most of my earlier statement.I understand that theyare intending to soon publish a 2nd release of the book with updatedsoftware.

Easy Reading
I have not worked completely through this book, but have found it to be very readible with sound information. Everything does not apply to my situation (very small organization), but the concepts are clear.

This book, like all of Ms. Cassidy's work, is straightforward, to the point and reads like a blueprint for success.In particular, she frames the objectives (Where are we?Where do we need to be?What's the best way to get there?), then gives guidance on answering the questions and a realistic and actionable plan for meeting the objectives.
