The book tries to cover many different topics at the same time and sometimes makes a quite messy work. However, the book has very good chapters and not so good ones. It provides a good introduction on MEMS fabrication, but a more interested reader will find difficult to fabricate MEMS with the given information. Chapters 5,6,7 and 8 are excellent, but chapters 9, 10,11 and 12 are incomplete and not easily understandable for a Electrical Engineer graduate student. Chapter 13 begins with general equations to be simplified considerably later, giving the impression to the reader that he has learned only a little about fluids. Chapter 11 is quite confusing and chapter 12 lack examples in 2D and 3D lumped models. ... Read more

Comprehensive in-depth reference tool - this is how the book has been characterized by a university professor using it for his course instruction. I concur. Amazing amount of practical detail in one refernce. Dimensionally a bit large and gangly but likely would require mulitple volumes if in standard book size. The web page link is a nice feature given the fast moving topic. Cleanroom reference is out of date and could be updated given the reference focus. Text discusssions well written and unusually pleasant to read.

If you're an avid electronics enthusiast, you've more than likely had to build some power supplies.The days of building simple linear supplies are over.If you need various voltages that are carefully controlled and/or just want to build efficient supplies, you need to build a switchmode power supply.This handbook will take you through the major topologies, explaining them all in detail, along with the necessary math to choose the proper components, and the theory of how it's done - and how to choose the proper topology in the first place.The book is well-written and stuffed full of very useful information.Power Factor Correction is also covered, with examples, chips, and theory to build PFC circuits, along with transformer design and theory as well.This book is a great book to buy with "Switchmode Power Supply Handbook", by Keith Billings.Keith's book presents additional information and transformer design mock-ups, along with additional ways to calculate and pick components.Used together, you have the information you need to build a working switching supply with a minimum of hassle.Of course, this assumes that you're already famaliar with electronics and magnetism, and have a good working knowledge of algebra and basic trig.These books are not meant for beginners by any means.I am one happy customer to have found such a good reference for an art that seems to only be known by a few anymore, and other reference materials do not even begin to go into the depth that this book does.

Last year I was seeking a reference book on permanent magnetic motors.I found this book to be an excellent choice.The subject material includes magnetic materials and properties, leading into the various classes of permanent magnet materials, a good review of Maxwell's equations, which is used to lead into several useful analytical models, before closing with a review of permanent magnet devices and electromechanical devices.If the book had included problem sets at the end of each chapter, it would have ended up as an excellent graduate level textbook on the subject.As it is, the book will serve experienced technical folks well, either as a refresher on material already known, or as a method of teaching new material in all its gory detail. ... THIS BOOK IS AWFUL!!!!!! I've never seen a textbook as terrible as this. Notice how the guy who gave it 5 stars is from MIT. I wouldnt be surprised if it Sodini himself. Nice try Charles, but your textbook is terrible.

This is the worst textbook that I have ever read. The authors make way too many assumptions in deriving their equations. Also, their approximations seem very sketchy and go without proper justification. All of these assumptions and approximations make it near impossible to understand anything, and so the student is just left with a bunch of meaningless equations. The end-of-chapter problems and excercises thus become just plug-and-chug, and they teach the student absolutely nothing about semiconductor devices. The problems are only difficult in that the student must search through the 150 or so gigantic equations in each chapter to find the correct one to plug the numbers into. No insight is gained. ... I used this book in my college and was entirely lost.And in my opinion not just me but other students at my school.I believe this is not a good book at all.First off I find the author dwells way too much into the math for an introductory subject, and as a result makes it really impossible to answer the questions at the end of the chapters.It seems this book is more for someone who has had a couple years of experience.You never get a real feel for what the whole topic of microelectronics is and what is the point of the op-amp and transistors.After trying to read this book several times I started to realize maybe it was not me and maybe it was the book.And after trying out different books out there I realized it was not me!!!Now I can say when I first read this book I was not great at electric circuit analysis, but after getting good at that and coming back to this book I was still as confused as I was in college.I would recommend Microelectronic Circuit Design by Jaeger or Introduction to Electronic Circuit Design by Richard Spencer and Mohammed S. Gaussi.This book really lowered my confidence in myself, but luckly their are other books out there that make you believe that any subject can be learned and it is not about intellectual aptitude as it is more just of effort.I would also strongly, strongly, strongly suggets reading Roland Thomas "The Analysis and Design of Linear Circuits" to understand circuit analysis.This book is amazing and gave me confidence again that I could learn electronics.The way this author goes over thevinin and norton, node-voltage analysis, phasors, laplaces equations, fourier series, and solving differential equations is amazing!!!!!And it is an excellent, excellent start to learning the math of electronics.It actually has problems that are worked out in the book!!!And it has not just difficult questions but also questions that are easy to get you warmed up.You almost start to feel you are in high school again, the good old days when math and science was actually easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!Also the other thing about this book that I did not like was that the book was not fun to read.I never got excited reading this book.It is really amazing to me that this is the book of choice not only in colleges but the work place as well.

I used this book for a junior level circuit analysis and design course.I have mixed feelings about the book.The main things i like about the book are: 1) it's very methodical and goes through everything in detail (sometimes excruciatingly so), 2)it's fairly comprehensive, and contains all the fundamental BJT and MOSFET circuit analysis stuff 3) there are lots of examples which are worked out in detail.

I owned this book, 4th Edition, from my previous courses in EE.As a matter of fact, I wouldn't recommend this book to undergraduate students if they really want to nail down in Microelectronic, which is based on the facts -- this book is very hard to understand from the authors explanations beside the exercises solutions and solving techniques.I feel very regretted that I owned this book because I could have another book better than this one in the past. ... I found this text to be geared more toward the electrical engineer who is not going to fabricate IC's, but rather use them.It is not quite as hefty as Sedra and Smith, but it is easier to follow, in my opinion.It is the first book I would go to as a reference.
