5-0 out of 5 stars Rally is Best Server 2003 Book!
Susan Snedaker has written an excellent text covering almost everything you'll need to know to get and keep your Windows Server 2003 Enterprise up and running. Its called the 'Best Damn Book Period' and after reading some of the others written on the subject, I agree it is the best--especially for the non-MCSE user.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best written, most useful book so far
If you are planning to implement a network system based on Windows Server 2003 you will find everything you need in the pages of this book. It covers every topic you need to know to successfully create a secure and efficient Windows server (or at least as secure and efficient as a Windows server can be). The author does assume some basic knowledge of networking and so leaves out a lot of the basics, which is entirely appropriate in a book of this nature. The focus is on the Windows Server 2003 operating system and not on things like using IP addresses to subnet a network.
5-0 out of 5 stars Truly the Best Damn Windows Server 2003 Book Period
From the author: If you're involved in managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 network, you need this book. You don't have time to waste reading through arcane tidbits of interesting but useless information. You certainly don't have time to waste reading a book that's been morphed from other versions of Windows. You need something built from the ground up that addresses exactly what you need to know about Windows Server 2003. Period. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the 70-526 Training Kit
The 70-526 Training Kit is now available, but there are still reviews on this site for another book (the 70-536 Training Kit). Please be aware that this is a new title and has not yet been reviewed.

This book is great! Unfortunately, the 'spotlight review' that is featured above, DOES NOT BELONG TO THIS BOOK! It belongs to the training kit for 70-536. For some reason, Amazon can't seem to get rid of this erroneous review. Please, please, please, fix this problem! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a comprehensive widget set for C++
When C++ was first put together in the 80s, it was just before the advent of GUIs for many programs. But as Java arose in the 90s, and then C#, the need for easy UI coding in C++ became very clear. Hence Qt was developed. Now in its 4th version. And available for Microsoft Windows, linux, Macintosh and several unixes. The accompanying CD has version 4.1.1. Though by the time you get this book, you might want to scout the Web, either for patches to this version, or a more recent version.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book but needs a few things added.
I won't bore you with another rendition of the books praises, enough other people have already written them below. What I will tell you is what is not enough or missing:The word toolkit to me implies that there are tools included (i.e. a cd or dvd) - there is none. Many things are discussed and examples given where a CD with code, sample questionaires, sample project plans ( in standard tool formats such as MS Project) and such would have been welcome. This downgrades the books usefullness for me.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not a "How To", it's a methodology
Excellent book for middle to upper management to learn the 10,000 foot overview of data warehousing.Reading this book can give you all the jargon you'll need to smooze your fellow IT personnel across a conference room table about data warehousing.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit - Good book, but not an excellent book.
Basically, the kimball group , joined the book The Data Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit (TDWLT) + MS BI Toolset.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best Intro to Finance book out there
With an undergraduate degree in economics and two years of working experience in Wall St, you can say that I had the chance to read quite a few finance books. I find Principles of Finance with Excel to be hands-down the best Intro-Finance book of them all. Not only does it explains the finance topics very clearly, it teaches you how to apply this knowledge in Excel. This is by far, in my opinion, the best way to learn finance. Furthermore, since solutions to the exercises are included on the CD, this book is perfect to the self-motivated reader. Lost or stolen, I would purchase this book again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent use of excel format
This book should be on every financial analyst desk. This book is helpful to understand the principles of Finance from simple to complex and if you are a beginner or an advance excel super user this book is useful(CD Included). You should ensure that the CD is included with your purchase because the CD is packed with EXCELLENT examples (formula driven). The CD also works as a study guide skill set. The author did an outstanding job in bringing the complex elements of the financials to be a readable and understandable format for the reader/user.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece from Doctor Benninga
This book is by far the best book for introducing students to Finance and Excel. Doctor Benninga is in my opinion one of the best authors out there and he has again gracefully managed to publish a book that will become a classic just like his previous work Financial Modeling. I've had the opportunity to teach some classes of corporate finance and this book is an excellent introductory into the field of finance and the use of excel. In this book the student is able to learn everything from simple calculations of present value all the way up to valuing options. I fully recommend this book to anyone seeking to learn about finance or excel applied to finance. A most have definitely! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference, Worthy Sequel For More Advanced Topics
Describing more advanced topics of c++, such as - things you should know before overloading special operators, inner works of exception-handling (and what you should avoid while using them), how the virtual table is built when using RTTI & Inheritance, general efficiency issues (such as the works of temporaries and multiple inheritance) and few Design-Patterns related techniques.
5-0 out of 5 stars A good supplementary reference
It provides even more explanation than the first book and they both have similar advantages: easy-readable, explained in detail, large and useful topics covered.

5-0 out of 5 stars use the STL and string objects
Scott Meyers continues in the vein of his earlier successful "Effective C++". If you benefited from the insight presented in that book, you may well want to follow up with a study of this text. It assumes a general familiarity with C++, though not necessarily with all the obscure details. It continues in the style of the earlier book by collating useful advice garnered from the C++ community. Which is probably one of the largest groups of programmers in the world.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, thorough book on C#/.NET 2.o foundations
Overall, this book is a good, wide-ranging text on C# and the .NET 2.0 platform. However, it can be a little long-winded and hard to read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Coul be an excellent additionto your C# library
Generally, this book is technically sound, very well written and very easy to read. The examples are succinct, logically presented and very easy to follow. I do agree that the author repeats some things quite "moderately", but I also believe the intent is to get the point across. Using this text, I have gained a better understanding of Processes and Threads, among other things, running under .Net. Nonetheless, "Programming C# "by Jesse Liberty could be used to shore up or augment certain chapters; chapter 9 which covers Indexers and Collections is an example. Read both books for thorough coverage on c#.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
If you need to learn C# and get your project done this week, this book is not for you. If you want to learn the nuts and bolts of C# and do it right, this is the book for you. This book will teach you the stuff that you skipped over in college. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not too bad on a Mac either!
Granted, this book is for Windows and a software version ago but I found it to be a VERY useful resource.I use it for MAC and just tailor it around the 2004 for Mac edition. It has a CD in the back with trial documents that teach you as if you have never turned on your computer before.Language that you can understand, screen shots so you can see exactly what something looks like.It is a great learning tool for formulas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide
I purchased Excel Personal Trainer because I had a horrible college professor and therefore never learned this program properly, and as a soon to be college grad, Excel is essential for me to know. I have to say that I am very pleased with this book. It is very easy to follow, and I like the fact that there are practice lessons as well as illustrations. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs to know Excel quickly like i did.

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointing

5-0 out of 5 stars Sanjay Chheda
The book is very good with really good explanations and examples on descriptive analysis and inferential analysis.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better Title: Intro to Statistics using Excel Add-ins
On the positive side, this book has many excellent case studies and examples. It is well written and interesting. However, I was disappointed, as I was expecting use of Excel to rigorously solve decision making and data analysis problems. The focus of the book is mostly traditional statistics solved using a group of commercial add-ins for Excel. If this is what you want, then the book would get five stars. However, for data analysis and decision making, I think a more thorough treatment using Excel without relying so much on the add-ins would have been appropriate.

4-0 out of 5 stars Serious Excel 2000 Problem
The text book is great.I have many of Winston's other books andthey are all great. The Palisade stuff works just fine. However, the StatPro Addin that accompanies this text does not work with MS Excel 2000. I contacted the IT guy that the authors directed me to--he was stumped. He just gave up and suggested I return my book for a refund because he could not figure out it out. Again, the book is great but the StatPro Addin sucks! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars What it covers it covers well
This book is outstanding for what it covers. It's a great reference for some core topics, as well as for techniques most programmers may never use, but just might. If you ever happen to need to use reflection or multithreading, for example, look no further than this book for a thorough explanation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Out of date now
Python has come a long way. This book does not instruct you on any of the newest features or capabilities.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great
I am new to Python and really, really like this book. I have read it cover to cover twice. It is obviously biased in favour of Python, but goes out of its way to explain the "gotchas" and things that are not intuitive. All in all, a WAY above average computer book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Definitely not a reference book
This book isn't horrible, but it meanders all over the place. It often confuses the issue by using several concepts in one example. There are too many instances where a technique is shown but then explained several chapters later. Sometimes this is necessary in language books, but this book abuses the idea.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I think this book is worth buying. It builds on a foundation of basic computer knowledge and takes you into more advanced topics. It covers all of the objectives for the A+ exam but I would recommend that you use it in conjunction with other exam readiness material. Again, this book is not a waste.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible study material for the exam
I can't believe others gave this A+ Complete Study Guide great reviews? This book was horrible. I had to study other textbooks and materials so I can pass the real exam. If I just study this book alone, I would fail the actual exam. The book is so wordy! Blah! Blah! Why do I want to hear long sentences. Just get to the point! And the sentence structure was terrible. I don't understand what was going on most of the time. Just focus on the subject without the jargon. Not enough on Windows XP and networking, but many questions had these on the actual exam.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised
I am sure that this book will serve the needs of most of the buyers as a competent treatment of the subject area. I am studying for the exam and wanted two things: A large set of practice questions for drill purposes (the cd had 30 questions) and a portable reference copy of the book. The ebook included can only by read from the cd according to the text file that comes with it, but in fact for me the book was totally unreadable from the CD on a PC or a Mac with serveral different versions of the adobe reader that I tried. I am not interested in reading a 900 page book just to pass an exam and found that the dummies book plus the testking questions were enough. This book did not suit my needs at all. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ditto what the other reviewer's said!
This book was just what I needed to get started in MS Visual Basic 2005.It is well-written.The book included disk of sample programs that has been extremely helpful. The exercises in the book actually worked and taught me what I needed.
4-0 out of 5 stars straightforward and easy to understand
For the beginning programmer, this is a perfect book. But since I'm familiar with windows and programming, some of the instructions were redundant. I guess that's why it's called step by step.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource
I have no previous programming experience. After only five days with this book, I have already built programs beyond the scope of the book. This text lays a strong foundation using simple language and to-the-point examples. The only reason that I do not give it five stars is because it does not include review exercises for you to do on your own and check against prepared solutions. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars RIGHT TO THE CORE OF THE EXAM!!
Are you looking to complete your Microsoft Certification? If you are, then this book is for you! Author William R Stanek, has done an outstanding job of writing a 3rd edition of a book that helps IT professionals complete their Microsoft Certification.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Training Resource!
William Stanek's MCSE Core Required Exams is the best training resource I've found for helping me to study for my exams. I swear this book packs in more than the 4 book set I bought previous to this (and stopped using in favor of this). In his pocket consultants, Stanek has proven he has a gift for getting to the point and being concise while at the same time being comprehensive. This book is not different. This is the single most useful training guide I've ever purchased. Excellent as a reference as well as a study guide. I can't recommend this highly enough. Every network administrator should own at least one copy of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage and completely reliable
This is definitely a better book compared to others available. Although I haven't made it all the way through this book yet, I'd like to say that it's taught me a lot. I've been using computers and managing Windows Servers since the days of Windows for Workgroups. Just goes to show even though you use an operating system daily there are still many things you can learn about it. With the excellent content and practice tests, this book is a GREAT buy! I would definitely recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're having Windows trouble, or Planning to ....
I got in this imposing 700+ page book, looked at it a little and put it on my desk to get to later. Well, you know how that works. Then I was trying to delete some files. And I got a message that the directory was messed up and to run CHKDSK. What's that, and how do you run it, and can I run it while I'm doing other things. So I picked up the book. The index sent me to page 513. There's CHKDSK. Here's how you run it. But it doesn't run under Windows, you have to schedule it to run and then re-boot windows, and then you get a message saying that this might take a long time. It worked and I could go delete the files.

Upgrading and Repairing Microsoft Windows
3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a first edition, but not quite there
I should first state that I am a BIG fan of Scott Mueller and his book series "Upgrading and Repairing PCs".Mueller is THE authority when it comes to PC hardware and I've been his fan since 1995.Thus, I decided to order his first book on the Windows operating system.

2-0 out of 5 stars This should have been the manual
This is certainly as dry as a computer manual, so Microsoft could have included this as at least a PDF with PowerPoint. So did not do that and now they want you to buy this separately. That itself is reason to not buy this book and look at other alternatives.
5-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 Step by Step
Very easy to follow and teach from. It's also very easy for those that I'm training to follow from as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
This is a great C++ book.My experience is with the first edition, and I'm sure they've improved even that. The book is so easy to read and follow. The pages, and the code, are in color, so that specific lines of a program are highlighted to indicate the principle that the author is making.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely a great book
Absolute C++ is definitely one of my favourites. It is very well written, colorful, and very helpful. It covers so many things in detail and explains everything very well. During my courses in computer programming this book was my rescue!

5-0 out of 5 stars The only C++ book I like
This is the only C++ book I have liked. He covers the material so well and does not but you to sleep while he is doing it. It is well broken down and easy to learn. Finally a coding book that is fun. ... Read more
