4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and detailed
Zalewski offers a nice overview of passive information extraction techniques. Each section covers one approach to the problem of determining something about someone's computer use without being detected. He provides an overview of the technology involved and then talks about how to exploit it.
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
This is one of those books that you go HMMMMMM!!! Very Interesting, but most of the things in the book are hard to understand. Also, he jumps around alot like if he's having a conversation rather than an inside manual to Attacks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ages well
This is one of the few information security books that seem to age well: I reread it after over a year, and it still appears to be quite refreshing and up to date. This only goes to show the difference between books written out of genuine passion, and the rest. Big kudos to the author. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Lot of info, but horrible to read, review
I got this book for my PC Technology Class, I've used it for 2 weeks, and I just hate this book. The thing that gets me mad the most is that its ALL OVER THE PLACE. They'll be talking about the BIOS, then go to expansion slots for like 3 pages, and then go back to Bios's again (pg 197-208). It's very confusing to follow, they should have sections, instead of cramming everything without header titles. The only good thing I like about it is that is has a lot of info, but if you have the time, and patience to find it, then this book is probably OK for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just In Time
Taking a computer class one night a week is more than enough for any average person w/ a full-time job. After the registration, the school location and the reality of how much books cost new these days. Amazon came through for me a week before class and this was after tracking all the various campuses and tips from friends. Buying the book used same me easily $30 to $40. The is in great condition, you would of thought it was new.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good resource, but only to a point. . .
I enrolled in an online course with Thomson Education Direct (which has recently changed to Penn Foster). The course was designed to prepare me to pass the A+ exam and this textbook was part of the package I received after I graduated. The book is loaded with information and includes end-of-chapter questions and exercises to help you prepare for the A+ exam, plus a CD with further instructional material and test questions.I take the tests first thing, to see where I stand, and find that, unfortunately, the test questions are riddled with mistakes, but I think, No problem.Though the book is a fifth edition, the CD is probably a new thing and that could account for the mistakes.I'll just use the textbook to check the test questions and make sure they're correct.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference on Linux subsystems, not a book for starters
This book is not for Linux (kernel) newbies but for those who already know their way around the kernel and seek detailed info on certain parts of it. This book has some good overviews on different subsystems of the Linux kernel. Some sections, like USB, have been expanded since the second edition of this book. I would have liked to see a section on the new 2.6 scheduler.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not useful for a normal coder looking to learn Unix drivers.
If you are trying to learn how to write Linux Device drivers from scratch, this is probably not the book for you. I believe I am somewhat C/C++ savvy, and I expect sample code that is less than 10 lines of code to compile correctly.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even read the free online version
This book was so badly written that I just couldn't help writing my first review on Amazon. I NEVER bothered writting reviews.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
I had to buy this book for a class, it is terrible. All the author does is have you go click here and drag this to go through the exercises with no explainations. It's a waste of time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book out there to learn Dreamweaver
I have taken several classes to learn Dreamweaver but still didn't handle to use Dreamweaver very well...until I found this book which answered all the questions I had to master Dreamweaver. This book is the best book out there so far for beginner; A must have.

1-0 out of 5 stars I Was Forced To Read This For A Class, and Will Never Be The Same Again
This has to be the worst book ever written. Do yourself a favor, and spare yourself from the pain. The author thinks it's cute to make little quips that a 3 year might think of and put little wink things behind them, you know what I mean ;). The problem is they just annoy you to no end. The other annoying thing is that it takes the author a page and half to say "Hit the Enter Key". He spends page after page talking of inane things, hawking other books, and making stupid, juvenile comments. The book is a laborious 700 pages long, an agonizing 700 pages long. I have noticed that they have fired the dweeb who wrote it, Garo Green (who I always imagined him as a pasty white, fat 50 year old geek-you'll see what I mean if you have the misfortune of being forced to use this book), and significantly shorten the book, even though Dreamweaver 8 has many more features. I write this with the full knowledge that I will be selling my copy of this at the end of the semester, and that this review will adversely affect my selling price, but the book is really that bad. Unless you need it for a course, do not buy it. I promise you will regret it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best-of-class book for external routing!
CiscoPress's "Routing TCP/IP - Volume II" by Doyle and Carroll is one of the `must-have' books on any CCIE's R&S bookshelf OR any network admin who needs to understand the intricacies of external routing. I have referenced this book many times for my preparations for the R&S lab and real-world implementations.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ahmad Arslan Munir
Routing TCP/IP, Volume II presents a detailed examination of exterior routing protocols (EGP and BGP) and advanced IP routing issues such as multicast routing, quality of service routing, IPv6, and router management. You will learn IP design and management techniques for implementing routing protocols efficiently. Network planning, design, implementation, operation, and optimization are stressed in each chapter. Cisco-specific configurations for each routing protocol are examined in detail. Plentiful review questions and configuration and troubleshooting exercises make this an excellent self-study tool for CCIE exam preparation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference
This book helped me a lot. I recently deployed over 250 ASAs and was running into a lot of problems with the IPS SSM and VPN features. I got most of my answers from this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Amatuer
What a waste of time it was reading this book. If you are not very familiar with FW/IPS or VPN then this may be helpful, but if you have been working with this technology and Cisco's products that address these technologies (ASA, PIX, IPS, VPN3k) then please don't refer to this joke. Go online to cisco.com and do the research. Sometimes it felt as if whitepapers were copied and pasted.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book on Cisco ASA.
I bought this book 2 weeks back for an ASA project that my company is going to deploy. I am really amused to see that each chapter starts off with an in-depth architectural overview of the features to be discussed. It then provides full step-by-step configuration examples with lots of deployment scenarios. It even covers many troubleshooting and monitoring examples that helped me a lot when I started deploying it in my lab network

4-0 out of 5 stars Book has all you need to Quick start ABAP objects learning
The Book is good to learn abap quickly. Its practical approach is the key. The software that comes in CDs is self sufficient to execute the examples...no developer keys are necessary from SAP. Installation is smooth. I dont have previous versions of MS SQL server.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide.
For those who beggin programming with ABAP within a OO perspective, I think is the perfect guide. Of course itsn't a reference book but it's a excellent point of start ABAP having in mind an OO point of view.

1-0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE
In order to use the programs in this book you will need to obtain a developer key from SAP. In order to get a developer key you *must* have a SAP customer number ... if you do not already have a customer number buying this book will not get you one and so there is no way to work through the exercises illustrated.

4-0 out of 5 stars The real world isn't free of errors, either
This is an excellent book for anyone with a basic understanding of simple math and simple excel operations who wants to take their skills to the next level. This will come in handy for anyone in any line of business, despite the many errors on the CD.
4-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile in spite of shortcomings
I readily admit that the mistakes in the CD are an impediment to learning, but I think the book still has value for users who are looking for the application to business. Many of the CD's chapters were fine and proved very useful and I don't agree with other reviewers that the CD is flawed beyond use.Users of this book can glean a great deal from the unflawed majority of the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too many errors!!!
I am not an advanced Excel user, but it is easy to find out that this book has many mistakes in coordinating the problem descriptions with the solutions, as well as typos in the book, when referring to certain cells. So, I do not know which of them should be corrected, but it is hard and time consuming, at least for a novice user, to understand what is going on. The solutions to advanced problems have no explanation, which on one hand is good because it makes you try to think...on the other hand though, it is such a disappointment to find out that the solutions you try to understand are wrong!! You can easily find it out by doublechecking with pen and paper... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars too many junks in the book
I have to say it's a book full of junks and gaudy texts. The author wants to cover all the topics in this field but he ignores the readability as a scientific reader. Most of the time you may find all the texts are lack of focus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Coverage on Distributed Systems
I just completed this book for a graduate course on Distributed Systems and was amazed at the volume of coverage on so many topics ranging from CORBA, RPCs, Fault Tolerance and Security to list just a few.Tanenbaum is reknown as being the best writer in Computer Science and this is an excellent book to read and use as a reference. My only complaint is that it is starting to show signs of being dated and this is why I gave it only 4 instead of 5 stars. Hopefully, in a new edition there will be coverage on the super network GRID and more enhanced and extensive coverage of Intelligent Agents.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice book but you need to know the subject!
This is a nice book if you know the subject from another book ! - otherwise the explanation is limited.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good If you know your Statistics
This is a good book if you know statistical analysis. Do you know what to use, when and where? If you do, this book is good because if you are going to use SAS for analysis you have got to know your statistics. What good would FORTRAN be if you didn't know Algebra? You need both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very readable and practical
This book is very well written. Each topic is presented with an interesting example, including discussion. None of the topics are presented in great depth, so for example, this is not the book to use for learning factor analysis, or cluster analysis, etc. The real strength of the book is that it shows how to do the analysis using SAS in a clear and concise way. I would recommend this book highly for anyone who would like to get started using SAS. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, but still some holes
Previous reviewer's comments are noted well, but I was somewhat disappointed in the coverage of forms development.I really wanted to learn to move/place fields on a contact form and designate them drop-down, etc. Simple enough, I thought, for a book of this coverage. But even though the author talked about the abilitiy to do this, there were no directions, no examples, and no description of the 'Controls' options required to do it.For a book of this size and price, I had hoped for more meat. No, not to the detail of VB scripting, but certainly more detailed coverage of Outlook's powerful forms and macro abilities. To my chagrin, I'm finding my answers under theOutlook 'Help' section in the program itself!

5-0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive
A most comprehensive treatment of Outlook.Extremely well suited for an experienced Outlook user, with many details on the use in a server/business environment.Describes the interrelationship with Windows Outlook Express.Probably a little too comprehensive for the single system user just trying to read and write a few email messages. Subject matter is exceptionally well presented and thorough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed treatment of Outlook 2003 for power users
"Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Inside Out" from Microsoft Press is geared toward intermediate and advanced users of the latest version of Outlook, which has become a bloatware office tool that surpasses Lotus Notes in functions and complexity. If you want to become a true expert at using Outlook, or plan to deploy and manage Outlook at your enterprise, or have to take some MS Office certification exams in order to advance your career, you'll find this book immensely useful. In fact, this is simply the best advanced treatment of Outlook 2003, bar none.

the book is somewhat limited in information as is the software, QB pro 2006 in application and functionality

4-0 out of 5 stars Quickbooks 2006 - The Official Guide
A well-written and comprehensive guide to using the Quickbooks software. If you are a new user, this would be invaluable because of the simple way they explain things and diagram displays that you would espect to see. The actual Quickbooks Users Manual is also very helpful- but can be confusing to new users. This guide usually clears things up nicely if there is any confusion. It is a handy reference for "emergencies". Not a required item to have - but can be very helpful!

5-0 out of 5 stars A lesson plan for customization
Easily learn Quickbooks features, from basic to more advanced business asks, and tailor Quickbooks 2006 for different uses with QUICKBOOKS 2006: THE OFFICIAL GUIDE. Here's a lesson plan geared to quick customization of forms and purposes, from running payroll and tracking accounts receivable to using budget tools and online banking. Black and white screen shots on every page lend to a format which can be used for either methodical course study or quick browsing reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Would recommend this book
I love the format Steve Bass uses while writing
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Practical,Funny,To the Point.
After slogging through books on W2KPro/XPPro that are painful to read and no help unless your running 100+ PC's this book was a welcome relief in it's smarts, humor, and direct approach to fixing many of the challenges presented by the above mentioned OS's. Having one of my usual sleepless nights I started tallying up all the money I spent trying to keep MS software running, protected from hackers, bots, spyware, virii worms and it's own predisposition to fail and I realize that with an entire industry built around sloppy software as the norm and a gov't asleep at the antitrust wheel we're not likely to see a real improvement any time soon. When you hear words like regulation stifles innovation reach down and make sure you still have your wallet because it's about to be plundered. It's always about the money. If I had to spend another $25 to have this book included in the box that MS/OS came in then I would've saved hundreds on books that did'nt meet my needs and priceless amounts of lost time.

5-0 out of 5 stars PC Annoyances
This is not the usual boring computer book. Just the opposite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable Reference
Large books, by their very nature, can have good points and bad points. After all, if you have a couple or several hundred pages worth of material, you are bound to get some things right and some things wrong.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what it is supposed to be ..
Great little reference book.It is not intended to be a learning tool.If you want that, try the Head First book on HTML/XHTML/CSS that O'Reilly also publishes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Works like expected.
I've used this pocket reference for a long time now and I love it. It's a great way to refresh your memory when you can't seem to remember a property and/or its value.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong title
I was looking for CCNA 1 & 2 Companion Guide Revised Third Edition, from that page I clicked on 'used & new' link and oredered what I thought was the same product. It wasn't til it arrived that I received a used version of the previous year's non-revised which is quite a bit different than what I thought I was buying.

4-0 out of 5 stars I thought it was good
True there are some errors, however, if you are in the class and use this book, the errors are not that profound and shouldn't cause you any confusion. If you are confused because a word is misspelled or there are 4 technical errors throughout the book...you should not be going into the technology field...try a different career path.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm.....
I'm not sure about the other reviewers here but I found this book very, very useful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Better off researching the Internet for free
This book makes a lot of assumptions.Such as, you'll be using ZAP channels. If you are using SIP and/or IAX only, you'll quickly find yourself lost trying to follow the examples since a critical part of the setup is done in zapata.conf (i.e. a useless file for SIP/IAX only deployments). If you aren't using ZAP and you skip that part of the chapter (like I did), you'll pull out hair you didn't know you had trying to get the example configs to work.Likewise, the example builds out even further in the next chapter about extensions.conf, riddled with more ZAP configuration with a smattering of SIP examples. And if you are looking for IAX config examples you can forget it.Indeed it seems that SIP and IAX were after thoughts in this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars The title of the book is slightly understated
I bought this book because I thought that having a small PBX-type system for my home/office would allow me to route faxes to my fax machine, provide voicemail to replace the limited answering machine, and auto attendant menus to route calls to 1 of 3 extensions that I would be able to configure. I saw a solution that would divide business and personal calls and also filter and perhaps stop once and for all those evil telemarketing calls.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Asterisk
Asterisk IS the future of telephony. I have been wanting to dive into the Asterisk world for over a year now, but never had the time until now. I have very limited telephony experience, and what little I know is from working on an old AT&T definity system, in a fairly passive role i.e. watching someone else do all the really cool stuff. Unfortunately, peons like myself weren't allowed to muck around on the PBX's. Lucky for me, Asterisk doesn't care who you are, you are encouraged to muck, and this book is an excellent place to begin.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok--rather above average
On the whole, the book is very good in that in general it consists of short self-contained programs: the input, the code, and the output, with discussion. Unfortunately, later in the book the authors got tired of the above and in many cases do not provide the output.
5-0 out of 5 stars For the Person Who Has Everything
Not exactly one of those people but still hanging in there. This is a very good do-it-yourself book on SAS coding. But remember, it is still "do-it-yourself" so beware. You can get the job done, but it may not always be the most economical or efficient way. Otherwise this is an invaluable book. Keep it handy.

4-0 out of 5 stars My first SAS book
This book is helpful for beginner users. It was invaluable to me in learning SAS programming, with great examples of all the basic concepts and operations. It's concise and pretty well-written. (By the way, there's also a helpful "SAS Workbook" that goes along with this, written also by Cody. The Workbook has many exercises to help you get started with SAS). ... Read more
