3-0 out of 5 stars More high-level concepts and less hands-on guidance
This is certainly a good book for getting introduced to most high-level architectural concepts related to Network security, cryptography, mandatory/multi-level access control etc. From a application development perspective, this book falls short on how to build architecure, design and implement them into your business applications which ultimately meets the end-user. The author justifies the high-level concepts well enough from a generalist perspective, but the industry-standards from OASIS leans towards standards-based application security protocols..which pushes a developer/architect like me to take those suggestions first and how to apply them in real world. The book also does'nt address on how-to build security for emerging application architectures based on Service-oriented architecture (SOA), Identity Management, Net-centric Federated applications. As a developer/architect using Java or Microsoft .NET or open-source based distributed applications, I need guidance on how to implement the recommended concepts (in the book) for example using biometrics or smartcards for building multi-factor access control at my application-level...unfortunately I don't find any answers for real-world implementation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, detailed book
I'm a data architect at a small tech company, now working mostly with data warehouses, and was looking to refresh my data modeling skills. After reading Amazon reviews about different modeling books I chose this one and have not been disappointed.Rather than reading it from front to back, I read the first couple hundred pages and am now skipping around and reading sections that interest me.
3-0 out of 5 stars Decent book
I bought this as a reference for a college course, and it seems to be a decent reference for data modeling.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Data Modeling Classic
Simsion and Witt's _Data Modeling Essentials_ has been a classic on my data management bookshelf since the first edition. Now in the 3rd Edition, this work has become even more valuable and useful on data management projects. The fact that the authors continue to enhance and expand their work is a real asset.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY Essential
I've taken several university-level courses in Network design and security and I have to say that this book, which is a very easy read, surpassed everything that I'd learned in my classes. If you want to work in the Networking industry, this book is a must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best-of-class book at understanding TCP/IP
"TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1 - The Protocols" by Richard Stevens is probably THE book which I reference most often of any I.T. book I have. I believe I am on my third or fourth dog-eared copy (either the book becomes too worn out from overuse or, I think, a mischievous co-worker permanently borrowed one copy).Any book where I have probably spent over $200 in buying, and rebuying must be worth it - and "TCP/IP Illustrated" is worth the money!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Definitely my favorite book on TCP/IP. Doesn't nmatter if it's somehow out of date, if you need to *understand* TCP/IP you need to go thru this book.Illustrations and clear explanations are a strong point of the book.

Editorial Review

It's important for anyone who creates Web sites--even those who rely on powerful editors like Dreamweaver or GoLive--to know HTML. The World Wide Web Consortium rewrote HTML as a subset of XML (dubbing it "XHTML 1.0") and the allowable code will eventually be stricter. Tags that are being phased out are labeled "deprecated"--current browsers can still handle them, but if you want your site to keep up with future browsers, not to mention conform to accessibility requirements, you will want to get on top of XHTML.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Far and away the best book for everyone!
This is simply the best HTML and CSS book.It has basically everything you need to know, with easy-to-find, easy-to-understand, and concise descriptions. It it not "web for dummies," rather, it is a very sophisticated and realistic approach to HTML and CSS, without a lot of hype or self-promotion.If you want to hear people wax poetical about the "EM" unit, you can get the book by Lie & Bos, but I think Castro's book is far more useful. She gives links to many web sites to help with more advanced stuff (Javascript, etc.), which is nice, but the book itself is incredibly comprehensive. And the layout of the book is a model for all instructional texts.A winner!

4-0 out of 5 stars For Reference or for learning
Elizabeth Castro has been writing Visual Quickstart Guides to HTML and web design in an easy to understand manner. Now she provides resources for those who would be interested in web design that will create sites that are usable for years to come. Since I first picked up the fourth edition of this book, I have been hooked on the series, because its explanations are written on a level for the average person. The organization allows the reader to move at their own pace and easily refer back to topics that they want to refresh.
5-0 out of 5 stars Coding
This book was a real help to me when I first became addicted to coding. The pictures are quite helpful, or at least more helpful than long explanations, and Elizabeth Castro is a fabulous writer. I learned so much that I went on to learn many other programming and coding languages with ease. You don't need to have any experience to use this book, it explains everything. Visual QuickStart Guide's are the best type in the market, cheap and easy to understand. So if you are itching to learn another computer language, I suggest checking them out! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best handbook for programmers EVER!
The authors were very modest in choosing their title.Yes, indeed, they focus on the scenario of writing reusable libraries, and write from the perspective of two of the designers of the .NET Framework. However, the utility of this book goes far beyond what the title implies.
5-0 out of 5 stars invaluable to developers of class libraries, components, and frameworks--whether .NET or not.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're a tester or developer, this book is a must-have.
Cem's book is a full chest of software testing's practical jewels.I found myself saying "wish I'd known that before I learned it the hard way".After a few years in software testing, I only wish such advice and clear-cut ideas were made available to newcomers and even experienced software QA and testing professionals. The format is inviting, concise and economical. It is truly an enjoyable read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astonishing !!! Pure experience based knowledge shared to us.
As a test manager and tester for years I discovered recently this book. Astonishing how much it drives you to question yourself about methods accurate for YOUR testing project.Insightful to senior testers who find themselves in charge of a team or of a testing project. My testing will probably never be the same as I reread those advice and still try to find good question to ask myself to better my test.
5-0 out of 5 stars A ton of common sense that every Quality Engineer should know
This was like reading all the testing expreinces I have had in past 10 years. Some good, some bad; but it's all sumed up in this book. When I hire a new tester, this is one of the mandetory books they need to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice book
this is a very good book about web usability and its not a complex kind of book, you start reading it and u dont want to stop it untill you finish it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected..
As an avid read of Mr.Nielsen's blog and his website, I figured this book would comprise the "Bible of Web Design".Unfortunately, I was a bit let down.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple IS usually better
Please people don't design incredibly complex sites with over the top graphics that take an hour(feels like) to download even on broadband! I encounter this everyday and can't imagine what it must be like for those on dial-up, which is still most of the internet user base. Designers like to design and justify their high paying jobs by these crazy sites that simply drive me nuts. I recently tried looking for sunglasses on the Ray Ban site and Holy [...]! What a pain in the [...]! I finally went to a small reseller site where I could actually see the glasses quickly and make a purchase. The Ray Ban site I'm sure cost a fortune and is pretty but NOT user friendly. Web site designers need to remember that these sites are for people to find products and services, not to win design contests. My ex is a graphic designer(excuse me...User Interface Experience) for a very well know company and I know how they think. The more elaborate the better, we can charge clients more! KISS ... 4-0 out of 5 stars My View
Very good title, well structured and current.Assisted with our implementation process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book with cool tips and tricks
This is a great book that puts you well on your way to success with understanding and working with MSCRM 3.0. The chapters on Callouts and workflow and the examples using the client side SDK and the server side SDK really helped me in making my MSCRM implementations very successful and gave me a complete picture of all the extensions points available in this version of MSCRM. I would highly recommend this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as one would hope...
This book is a fantastic resource for programmers and process engineers alike - however from the perspective of a manager assessing the capabilities of CRM 3.0 for their organization, I found this book to be commercially irrelevant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rally is Best Server 2003 Book!
Susan Snedaker has written an excellent text covering almost everything you'll need to know to get and keep your Windows Server 2003 Enterprise up and running. Its called the 'Best Damn Book Period' and after reading some of the others written on the subject, I agree it is the best--especially for the non-MCSE user.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best written, most useful book so far
If you are planning to implement a network system based on Windows Server 2003 you will find everything you need in the pages of this book. It covers every topic you need to know to successfully create a secure and efficient Windows server (or at least as secure and efficient as a Windows server can be). The author does assume some basic knowledge of networking and so leaves out a lot of the basics, which is entirely appropriate in a book of this nature. The focus is on the Windows Server 2003 operating system and not on things like using IP addresses to subnet a network.
5-0 out of 5 stars Truly the Best Damn Windows Server 2003 Book Period
From the author: If you're involved in managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 network, you need this book. You don't have time to waste reading through arcane tidbits of interesting but useless information. You certainly don't have time to waste reading a book that's been morphed from other versions of Windows. You need something built from the ground up that addresses exactly what you need to know about Windows Server 2003. Period. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the exam
I really enjoyed using this book to prepare for the Network+ exam. I used another book from McGraw-Hill/Osborne and it just didn't help me as much. What I liked the most was the fact that the author did more than prepare me for the exam, he helped me prepare for actually supporting networks. Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Passed it!
First off let me say that I managed to pass the Network+ test with a 715 (thats about a low "B" but a pass is a pass). I also used the Exam Cram 2 book as well because its always a good idea to study from at least two sources. One of the sources may cover something in more depth or is easier for you to understand then the other and vice versa.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
I found this book (the deluxe edition) well written and I learned a lot from it along with the lab and test CDs included with the book. As far as preparation for the exam, I used this book along with Craig Zacker's Microsoft Press Network+ Certification book. I passed, not with flying colors, but I'm satisfied considering I had very little work experience involving network administration. There were a lot of questions on the exam that the book did not seem to cover well, particularly the ones on fiber technology. The assessment and bonus tests that came with the book were, like the book itself, educational but not the best exam prep materials. With all the braindumps available it seems that COMPTIA has made the test unrealistically difficult. Even though I have very little networking experience, I find it hard to believe that network professionals have all the network protocols and associated cable types, lengths, connector names, and speeds memorized. That's the kind of stuff reference books are used for. So, although the book provides a lot of the knowledge network professionals have, it's not the best exam prep material and would probably be a boring read for those who have a year or so field experience. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The BOOK for Telecommunications
This should be a mandatory book for anyone working in the telecommunications industry. Not only is it comprehensive, but the explanations are direct, easily understood and sometimes humorous. Anyone who uses "oxymoron" in an explanation gets my vote.

5-0 out of 5 stars This will separate the successful from the failures!
Many of us have decided to put away our legacy PBX systems and install a VoIP based communication platform, and with all of the benefits clearly visible, we often jump into action without fully realizing the scope of what we are about to undertake. In a VoIP deployment, so many factors must be considered in the design, that often things are left out.In the deployments where QoS, switching infrastructure, and overall network design are ignored, you see problems with reliability and an overall bad taste left in the mouth of the end user. With proper planning, the problems experienced by these design flaws (or often lack of design) can be overcome, and the true glory of the VoIP system will be seen.
