5-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Windows Books
I ordered these books online and they came in very good shape and were delivered on time.Very informative and helpful books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring but useful
I used this book to pass the 70-290 exam.
2-0 out of 5 stars Thick, shallow, and full of technical errors
Thick, shallow, and full of technical errors.Don't go here lookng for answers, if you find them, they are equally likely to be from some prior (probably re-edited) windows 2000 manual, and sometimes just wrong!I read it from cover to cover...and it didn't get any better.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have book for understanding Cryptography.
This book has really shed a lot of light on cryptography for me. I honestly can't put it down--I wish I had paid more attention in my statistics classes so I could be able to apply some of the stuff the author talks about better. I am about half way through the book, and I haven't gotten to the point where it's more of a chore than a pleasure to read it (something I can't about my other technical books).
5-0 out of 5 stars Prepare to drink from the firehose
This book is really incredible. When it was first published in the mid-90's, there was almost no material available on the subject of cryptography. Now, ten years later, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of books riding on Schneier's coattails - but almost none have anything new or useful to say.Impeccably researched (with 1,653 references!) and unarguably complete, Schneier's expertise in theoretical mathematics, experience as a practitioner, and razor-sharp lucidity combine to make this the only book you'll ever need on the subject of cryptography.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can't be talking about this book!
I checked twice to make sure I was reading reviews of the book I am currently reading(now on Ch 8), because this is an excellent book. Before I begin - one caveat - I have the the Networking Basic, CCNA 1 Companion Guide (cc 2006) not the CCNA 1 & 2 Companion Guide. However, judging by the contents and excerpt it appears that Part I of this book is the same as the book I am reading.
2-0 out of 5 stars Crappy book
I am teaching a networking course and am using the CCNA 1 and 2 Companion Guide as the required textbook for the class. I am very surprised that I am presently on Chapter 8 and I am still talking about Ethernet. I know Ethernet is an important subject matter, but it could be reduced to two chapters at best. The book, thus far, is way too technical for the students in my class. Thus, it simply isn't for students who are beginning their journey into networking. For the bang for my buck, I would recommend Todd Lammele's CCNA book, something to the point. The instructor could expand on the important material that the students need to know and the book would stress key points. I am CCNA and CCNP certified with practical experience so I believe I am qualified to know what is needed for students wanting to enter the networking field and like I said, the book has good info, but it is spread so far apart and is too technical for someone with little or no experience. I have talked to the Dean about this book and have recommended that another book be used. Cisco books are usually good for experienced people in the field.

1-0 out of 5 stars Be warned
Don't buy this book unless your instructor specifically requires it.Terribly written with virtually no sign of editing, it's a struggle to read and, when covering extremely technical issues, virtually incomprehensible.Worse, the content does not exactly match the on-line curriculum, meaning that Cisco on-line tests typically ask questions about topics not covered in the relevant book chapter.Even worse, the answers to the tests in the book don't match the questions being asked.Buy the Sybex CCNA book instead; although it's not written to match the on-line course, it will help clarify networking, and not leave the reader frustrated and feeling cheated.

5-0 out of 5 stars A prefect choise for CCNA exam preparation
CCNA INTRO Exam Certification Guide and CCNA ICND Exam Certification Guide by Wendell Odom are prefect choise for CCNA exam preparation. Both books are easy to read for non-native English speakers (like me), all concepts are well explained and illustrated with good examples. Books also covers all exam topics, I used only those books for exam preparation and I answered all questions except one.

5-0 out of 5 stars CCNA ICND Exam Certification Guide
Excellent book and I got it overnight. it is clearcut and precise and not techy talk
2-0 out of 5 stars Recurring problem
I purchased this book set and passed the INTRO exam easily but have failed the ICND exam twice. I found the exam to be much more difficult than the practice questions. The exam gave me 60 minutes and at the end of 50 minutes I still had several questions left. Starting to have doubts as to whether this book was the best source of my study material. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Network textbook
This is a great book for learning the CCNA material. It will teach you all of the major points that you need to study to pass the exam. Even if you are not taking the exam and just want information on how networks are designed, this is the book. I found it a good read and the practice CD was priceless in learning how to issue commands to the various Cisco routers. A great book and worth the money too!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Clearify something....5 stars not accurate...
Everyone here critizes<< typos here and there.. lacking this and lacking that... WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND if this book is so bad... remember that next time you write a negative review.. that will help us (the newbies) know where to get this right information....
3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointingand frustrating
For the last 3 years I would have sworn by Todd Lammle's CCNA Study Guides; mainly do to his free-hearted writing style that seem to add an element of humor to complex reads. However, this book has far too many errors and lacked technical intensity. In the past, I used Todd's 607 Study Guide to pass the archived 607 exam on the first try.Two and half years later, I purchased the 801 Study Guide with the same enthusiasm. After reading this book twice, taking all 8 bonus exams repeatedly, and exhausting the capabilities of the simulation software, I took the comprehensive 801 exam this weekend and did not pass!My exam had multiple questions that were not covered in Lammle's book. Not to mention the lack of coverage of NAT, that seems to magically show up on my exam.None of which was covered with enough detail within this book. Moreover, the Virtual Lab was not exhaustive and far too basic (No OSPF, EIGRP or NAT simulation capabilities). In my opinion, this is not acceptable. Especially when I was faced with these topics through out my exam.I wish this book did a better job of pinpointing the areas that were and would be crucial on the exam.Although Todd Lammle attempted to do place emphasis on certain points, none of those points showed up on test day.Obviously, Cisco has made the exam harder to achieve by reading materials alone (even there own text). Therefore, accurate and thought-provoking supplemental materials are a must!!The bonus questions simply repeat themselves over-and-over again. The book as a whole lacked coverage on crucial technologies and is filled with confusing statements and answers that turn out to be mistakes- Go figure! All of which, led me to give this book 3 stars (maybe closer to 2 1/2). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars very good book.
implementation and design of classes wise this book is replete with ideas. Since this book dealt with FDM, which are either cubbersome or difficult to program say american options, better is to deal with FE methods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Computational Finance made efficient
This book encapsulates all that is wonderful about OOP and shows how generic programming techniques (based on the STL) can be effectively applied to financial engineering and numerical analytic problems. The book requires only a first-course level knowledge of C++ (at the level of for example Ivor Horton's Beginning C++) and a first course level knowledge of Financial Mathematics (at the level of for example John Hull's masterpiece) and takes the reader on an entertaining journey through the basics of the STL and the applications of STL constructs to computational-financial and numerical-analytic problems, especially those relating to the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Also, the author makes a persuasive case for finite-difference methods and deals with a few subtleties of the Crank-Nicholson algorithm. For best results, it should be read along with a decent book on the Standard Library (for example the one by Nicolai Josuttis). Overall, it's a pleasure to read and learn from, on a par with Mark Joshi's little design-patterns volume, and more detailed!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book in c++ instrument pricing, period.
Let me just say that I have a few financial modelling books, from Dr. Brooks to Mr. Joshi, and this is the best book by far.It clearly explain how to price a particular instruments using this poweful language. The book uses Standard Template Language (STL), by doing so your code are more readable and much faster. If I only had this book a few years back. Now I must say this book is for C++ programmers and Quants you really need to know C++ from beginning to end, templates, pointers, references, classes or that stuff you need it. This is the only book that comes with working code, it doesn't matter what type of compiler you have the code in the CD will work.Mr. Duffy explains how to model one factor and two factor Black-Scholes equations using finite differences, options(vanilla, exotic),interest rate and much more. The CD even comes with an Excel driver to transfer your data to Excel. Quant superstar Justin London is coming with his new book in a few months, and that book might over take this one, but as of right now this is the best C++ financial pricing book around. You can't go wrong with this one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Only book you need to pass CWNA test
This is the one of the best technical books I've read. Clear and detailed explanations, easy to read, 'not dry' - it gives you what you need to pass CWNA and more. You will return to this book every now and then in need for good explanation of wireless foundation (RF math, surveying, security, standards...). When studying, I ALWAYS use Internet as an aid in preparing for exams, and I did this time, too. It helps to read another author's lines to deepen your knowledge, or just to find another examples of the subject. Don't get me wrong: this book really IS your only study guide, but it is worth to take few steps more to be sure you do well on the test (after all, it's your money). It is important to visit CWNP's web page at www.cwnp.com for current errata. I used this book as preparation for CWNA exam and passed it with over 90%. But don't think CWNA is easy: prepare well, pay attention to details (!), be sure you REALLY understand what your are reading, take your time to prepare, and good luck!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Study Guide - Practice exam not included
The book covers all the topics and is a complete study guide but it does not include any practice test for the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleased
The book was an eye-opener for me and I now know a lot more about 802.11 standarads...written in plain english, it is easy to comprehend...The author does not compromise on the depth of information...I would recommend focussing on chapters 6-13 in order to clear the exam.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Comparative Reference on OSPF and IS-IS (IPv4 and IPv6)

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book to learn Routing Protocols for Cisco!!
Jeff Doyle's 2nd edition of his best-selling book - "Routing TCI/IP Volume 1" is a welcome revision to the cannon required for any CCIE Routing & Switching candidate.Jeff Doyle, along with Jennifer Carroll, has done an excellent job at updating what is considered by many to be THE book on routing. In particular, the new edition does a terrific job at describing the white-elephant in the room - IPv6, IPv6's packet format and how to configure some routing protocols to advertise IPv6 prefixes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great!
Advanced Modeling is a fantastic book, and pretty easy to follow with relatively few coding errors. There are some books out there that have errors in the code that they use, which makes it difficult or someone to learn the techniques.Even for those without a solid background in VBA, this book can benefit you to start learning how to code properly.Anyone who is relatively proficient with Excel can definitely gain a new trick or two from reading this book. All you really need to start using this book is a basic understanding of finance concepts (e.g. portolio theory, capital budgeting, binomial options pricing, Black-Scholes, etc.).The techniques that are taught are also useful in other modeling exercises, and not necessarily just for finance-related topics.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Cookbook for Financial Modellers
Yes, the book won't teach you CAPM, Black-Scholes, or much financial theory. But there is NO shortage of those books. There is a shortage of books with real-world Excel solutions to applying financial theory to data.I've had this book for a couple of years and have probably only used 10% of it, only because I don't have time, real business need, to do the rest.I sometimes take it to bed to read and dream of having the time to try out some of their other models. That's the only thing I can add to the other reviews here, the amount of love and passion for the subject put into this book. There's not one extra padded word or graphic in this book.Yes, if there was one book I'd have to take to a desert island with Excel and some financial data this would be it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not really satisfying
One of the main points of programming books is to help the reader understand the models being programmed. On this count, "Advanced modelling in finance using Excel and VBA" fails miserably. There is very little explanation of the financial concepts and models.Anyone hoping to learn finance from this book will be very disappointed.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A valuable encyclopedic compendium of TCP/IP information
At 5.25 pounds and 1616 pages, and chock-full of charts, figures, and diagrams (its lists of figures and diagrams alone are 19 pages long) this book truly earns its subtitle. I've been working with TCP/IP for a long time (as far back as the early 1980s) and I've never seen a book on this subject before to match this one. That said I've only been working with it for months so I'll probably update this review after I've lived with and used the book a while longer -- but even now, I know of no other resource (except its online analog at [...] to equal its depth or breadth of coverage.
4-0 out of 5 stars Monumental, but not a must-read
Right away I must state that I did not read "The TCP/IP Guide" (TTG) cover-to-cover.I doubt anyone will, which raises interesting issues. This review is based on the sections I did read and my comparisons with other protocol books.

4-0 out of 5 stars I think the Step by Step sharePoint book is an exellent book for the for the first time users

2-0 out of 5 stars Not good enough
I'm afraid that I was not as impressed as the other reviewers. The book failed to mention that you need to have InfoPath installed to run some of the exercises. There is little of how a real world configuration might look.It does give some "click the screen" simulations of what the program might do.But then, you could get the same thing by installing it yourself.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to using sharepoint services
If you have never used Microsoft's SharePoint Services, then this is a good book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference for System Administrators
Power UNIX and Linux users will want to expand their skills. It's inevitable. Some will get frustrated and drop out and some will work their way through it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference, full of examples, for all UNIX/Linux/BSD users
At first glance, this book seems like a typical O'Reilly book: a narrow title, rich in material, and is beneficial to a much wider audience than the title reveals. It covers a wide range of system administration subjects and goes way beyond just the essentials.
5-0 out of 5 stars Want to understand Unix and not just use it? This is the book.
This book is for the reader that wants to move beyond the basic, high level overview Unix book and truly understand the Unix system and why it invokes passion from it's fan base. This book could be used by the beginning user, but the novice or casual reader may find this book overwhelming in the sheer level of information it provides. If you are a system administrator, you will find this book is THE book you refer to the most, to the point you may end up keeping this book close to your Unix system at all times. Don't let the 2002 publication date think the book is out of date. The book covers the information that any system administrator will need, which do not change as frequently as the applications that run over the operating system. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate ESB book
Frankly, I feel that some reviewers misunderstand the purpose of this book. In my opinion, for a SOA focussed professional who needs to know the role of SOA, this book is a gem! Any of us who have had the challenge of explaining messaging technology should be grateful about reading this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars All sales, no sizzle
I was hoping that this book would go through the history of technology leading up to the ESB, discuss how the ESB solves the problems presented by previous solutions and talk about some best practices for building ESBs.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book.
This book is the definitive guide on ESB - excellent coverage on fundamentals, patterns and implementation models. I had read quite a few books around SOA and Web Services, some good, others not so good... but this book really stands out stressing the importance of ESB. The concepts were covered in sufficient details for any aspiring SOA developer. It all gives you a very good idea what you would need to consider when deciding to implement a real-world SOA solution in your organization.

1-0 out of 5 stars Priceless - or should be
I am completing my MSIS degree.I was required to use this textbook for one of my classes.I felt the book was possibly appropriate for an engineering computer science program on a "how things work" level but a terrible waste of time for business students. If I want to buy a cell phone I don't care HOW the cell phone works.I only care that it DOES work, and that it is dependable, accurate, reliable, and cost effective.Stop putting the OSI model in these textbooks.Just teach TCP/IP because that's what is used.If you're going to put problems at the end of the chapters, provide solutions to the students.Otherwise, you're just wasting paper because nobody will ever use them. Why work on them if you don't have a solution to compare your answers to?I have spoken to nearly half the people in my class. All agree. This textbook was a terrible choice for our class in the business program.None of us feel we learned anything of value from studying from this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Business Data Communications
This book arrived in a timely manner and in excellent condition. I would purchase fromthis seller again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not an Appropriate Introductory Textbook
A course I took earlier this year used this textbook, and I wasn't too fond of it.The book's explanations were very clinical, and other reviewers are correct in observing that it has many typographical errors (which are very frustrating when trying to solve mathematically inclined equations).

2-0 out of 5 stars Too high-level
I expected this book to be a good technical reference (much like just about every other Sam's Teach Yourself book). The book fails to deliver technical information and is primarily focused on how to perform tasks when USING Sharepoint that just about anyone who can read and click would be able to figure out without the help. This book is overly simplistic and is targeted to the END USER who is not even familiar with using Internet Explorer (several pages spent on what the different features of IE are).

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, thorough; a great reference book
Prior to reading this book, I know nothing about Sharepoint. After reading this book, I felt comfortable and well equipped to administer Sharepoint. It is simple to read and is also thorough in covering all of the components of a Sharepoint site. This book also covered the various tasks of a Sharepoint site administrator which I found to be valuable. A great learning tool for the novice and a great reference tool for the experienced Sharepoint site administrator. I also recommend the "Microsoft Sharepoint 2003 Unleashed, 2nd Edition" book by the same authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars The only true user's guide I found
After a long search I finally found the perfect SharePoint reference book for the layman, not the techie... I distributed this book to my team at work and everyone is impressed with it. ... Read more
