CCNA Study Guide
Very Information Study Guide for the CCNA Certification Examination. Alot of new material since I read the 3rd edition of the same Study Guide.

The best CCNA book for certification.
Although I am a reviewer for Cisco Press, I have found that the Sybex book series is much more understandable for the average person trying to achieve their CCNA certification.I teach the IT Mentor 2 Day CCNA Boot Camp and have used this book for the last 5 years.Over 5,000 of my students have used this book!
Just passed CCNA, I would recommend this book.
I just passed CCNA with 974/1000.I used this book, Cisco Flash Cards and Boson NetSim 6.0.I dont suggest you to use solely this book and expect to pass CCNA.I recommend you to do plenty of hands on labs along with this book.I found that a lot of questions from CCNA exam were from this book, some even word for word (I noticed that from ISDN chapter).Although this book done a great job explaining but I wouldnt have pass the test with this book alone.The there are a lot of drag and drop questions and three heavy weight sims on my test.I hope this help, and remember "Ping" and "show cdp neighbor details" is your best buddy :)Good luck. ... This book will keep your eyes focused on the goal of getting your Network+ certification!Mike Myers writes in a way everyone can understand, and has many examples and pictures.The book does look big, and it is.Just remember that all the pictures take up about half the book (good thing to, some of it would be hard to understand if they weren't in there!).Go and get this book!

I was very happy with this book
I used this book as my main study guide for the Network+ exam, along with his Network+ Passport.Mike says that you will pass the exam, not that you will score a 900 on it, and I think this is probably accurate.I studied this book, taking notes and reviewing as well as using the practice exams.I also bought my test voucher from Mike's company which gave me additional practice exams.I passed with a decent score (763)and most of the material I saw on the test was in the All In One book.
it's a good place to start, but not all-inclusive
i have my A+ cert but i did not have any experience with networking prior to reading this book. i passed with a 715, so for newbies like me, it can be done.

Not as good as they want you to think
For general information it's ok. The information is ill-organized and when working through the problems at the back of each chapter, many of the answers are not actually provided in the book -- you are expected to research further in referened material in the chapter. When an instructor has to give the answers to problems that are in the back of the chapter because the chapter does not actually have enough information to solve the problem, there is a problem with the book.
Overly wordy
Oh my gosh this book is sooooo wordy. It's 800 pages long, yet it probably could be condensed to less than 600, all without the loss of clarity. The authors explain everything to an excruciating degree, and often times things are repeated over and over again. For example, on page 194, a sentence reads:
The best overview of networking principles
I found this book the best reference yet that I have come across to give a person a great deal of knowledge in a rapid and easy to understand format. It deals with internet protocols and other networking principles-- it is a great book to start with.

Included lab is !@#$!$#@! Shame on Boson!
The books are good, and the tests are closer to anything on the CCNA test, although I did notice some of the simulations were buggy with incorrect answers, but Boson should be slapped HARD for including the hamstrung Router Sim LE version.The help does not work.The web connect interface does not work. 2/3rds of the labs are disabled and the ones that work have 2/3rds of the IOS commands disabled. This is meant to prod you into buying the "Full upgrade", at a cost of well over $150.That is quite lame.In addition, the internet scut on Boson is that the Full version also is very buggy and not worth even half the cost charged.The Cisco Academy in San Jose is very outraged at Boson for its poor quality.Ask anyone there.

Amazing book
It is a great book which covers all topics in order to pass the CCNA exam. You have the router and switch simulator to improve and apply your skills.

Very good title, well structured and current.Assisted with our implementation process.

Great book with cool tips and tricks
This is a great book that puts you well on your way to success with understanding and working with MSCRM 3.0. The chapters on Callouts and workflow and the examples using the client side SDK and the server side SDK really helped me in making my MSCRM implementations very successful and gave me a complete picture of all the extensions points available in this version of MSCRM. I would highly recommend this book!

Not as one would hope...
This book is a fantastic resource for programmers and process engineers alike - however from the perspective of a manager assessing the capabilities of CRM 3.0 for their organization, I found this book to be commercially irrelevant.

Great book for the exam
I really enjoyed using this book to prepare for the Network+ exam. I used another book from McGraw-Hill/Osborne and it just didn't help me as much. What I liked the most was the fact that the author did more than prepare me for the exam, he helped me prepare for actually supporting networks. Great book!

Passed it!
First off let me say that I managed to pass the Network+ test with a 715 (thats about a low "B" but a pass is a pass). I also used the Exam Cram 2 book as well because its always a good idea to study from at least two sources. One of the sources may cover something in more depth or is easier for you to understand then the other and vice versa.
Good book
I found this book (the deluxe edition) well written and I learned a lot from it along with the lab and test CDs included with the book. As far as preparation for the exam, I used this book along with Craig Zacker's Microsoft Press Network+ Certification book. I passed, not with flying colors, but I'm satisfied considering I had very little work experience involving network administration. There were a lot of questions on the exam that the book did not seem to cover well, particularly the ones on fiber technology. The assessment and bonus tests that came with the book were, like the book itself, educational but not the best exam prep materials. With all the braindumps available it seems that COMPTIA has made the test unrealistically difficult. Even though I have very little networking experience, I find it hard to believe that network professionals have all the network protocols and associated cable types, lengths, connector names, and speeds memorized. That's the kind of stuff reference books are used for. So, although the book provides a lot of the knowledge network professionals have, it's not the best exam prep material and would probably be a boring read for those who have a year or so field experience. ... You can't be talking about this book!
I checked twice to make sure I was reading reviews of the book I am currently reading(now on Ch 8), because this is an excellent book.Before I begin - one caveat - I have the the Networking Basic, CCNA 1 Companion Guide (cc 2006) not the CCNA 1 & 2 Companion Guide.However, judging by the contents and excerpt it appears that Part I of this book is the same as the book I am reading.
Crappy book
I am teaching a networking course and am using the CCNA 1 and 2 Companion Guide as the required textbook for the class. I am very surprised that I am presently on Chapter 8 and I am still talking about Ethernet. I know Ethernet is an important subject matter, but it could be reduced to two chapters at best. The book,thus far, is way too technical for the students in my class. Thus, it simply isn't for students who are beginning their journey into networking. For the bang for my buck, I would recommend Todd Lammele's CCNA book, something to the point. The instructor could expand on the important material that the students need to know and the book would stress key points. I am CCNA and CCNP certified with practical experience so I believe I am qualified to know what is needed for students wanting to enter the networking field and like I said, the book has good info, but it is spread so far apart and is too technical for someone with little or no experience. I have talked to the Dean about this book and have recommended that another book be used. Cisco books are usually good for experienced people in the field.

Be warned
Don't buy this book unless your instructor specifically requires it.Terribly written with virtually no sign of editing, it's a struggle to read and, when covering extremely technical issues, virtually incomprehensible.Worse, the content does not exactly match the on-line curriculum, meaning that Cisco on-line tests typically ask questions about topics not covered in the relevant book chapter.Even worse, the answers to the tests in the book don't match the questions being asked.Buy the Sybex CCNA book instead; although it's not written to match the on-line course, it will help clarify networking, and not leave the reader frustrated and feeling cheated.

I give this book a D+
I read the book cover to cover. Usally the book titled for the exam covers what is on the exam but this book does a poor job. Most of the Intro test is Subneting and Cisco commands while the book spends 3 out of 16 chapters on what is really important for the exam. One chapter for Subnetting I cant believe that. Its needs many more examples also for subneting the CD isn't enough. Don't even bother with the two chapters on commands just get your self a lab or Bosons. I just wish I had not wasted my time reading cover to cover. I wish I just got S..bex or some other book sooner I also used a video series. Pasted my exam its not that bad if you are studying the right stuff.

Fantastic Book
This book was fantastic.Absolutely recommend it - used it to pass the full CCNA exam the first time.Also get the ICND book by Wendell Odom as well - the full CCNA exam is better covered by the ICND book.
Networking review
I think that above title more interesting and really useful to get a CCNA cerification.

Microsoft Windows Books
I ordered these books online and they came in very good shape and were delivered on time.Very informative and helpful books.

Boring but useful
I used this book to pass the 70-290 exam.

Thick, shallow, and full of technical errors.Don't go here lookng for answers, if you find them, they are equally likely to be from some prior (probably re-edited) windows 2000 manual, and sometimes just wrong!I read it from cover to cover...and it didn't get any better.

A prefect choise for CCNA exam preparation
CCNA INTRO Exam Certification Guide and CCNA ICND Exam Certification Guide by Wendell Odom are prefect choise for CCNA exam preparation. Both books are easy to read for non-native English speakers (like me), all concepts are well explained and illustrated with good examples. Books also covers all exam topics, I used only those books for exam preparation and I answered all questions except one.

Recurring problem
I purchased this book set and passed the INTRO exam easily but have failed the ICND exam twice. I found the exam to be much more difficult than the practice questions. The exam gave me 60 minutes and at the end of 50 minutes I still had several questions left. Starting to have doubts as to whether this book was the best source of my study material. ... Read more

Network textbook
This is a great book for learning the CCNA material. It will teach you all of the major points that you need to study to pass the exam. Even if you are not taking the exam and just want information on how networks are designed, this is the book. I found it a good read and the practice CD was priceless in learning how to issue commands to the various Cisco routers. A great book and worth the money too!!!

Clearify something....5 stars not accurate...
Everyone here critizes<< typos here and there.. lacking this and lacking that... WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND if this book is so bad... remember that next time you write a negative review.. that will help us (the newbies) know where to get this right information....
Disappointingand frustrating
For the last 3 years I would have sworn by Todd Lammle's CCNA Study Guides; mainly do to his free-hearted writing style that seem to add an element of humor to complex reads.However, this book has far too many errors and lacked technical intensity.In the past, I used Todd's 607 Study Guide to pass the archived 607 exam on the first try.Two and half years later, I purchased the 801 Study Guide with the same enthusiasm.After reading this book twice, taking all 8 bonus exams repeatedly, and exhausting the capabilities of the simulation software, I took the comprehensive 801 exam this weekend and did not pass!My exam had multiple questions that were not covered in Lammle's book.Not to mention the lack of coverage of NAT, that seems to magically show up on my exam.None of which was covered with enough detail within this book.Moreover, the Virtual Lab was not exhaustive and far too basic (No OSPF, EIGRP or NAT simulation capabilities).In my opinion, this is not acceptable. Especially when I was faced with these topics through out my exam.I wish this book did a better job of pinpointing the areas that were and would be crucial on the exam.Although Todd Lammle attempted to do place emphasis on certain points, none of those points showed up on test day.Obviously, Cisco has made the exam harder to achieve by reading materials alone (even there own text).Therefore, accurate and thought-provoking supplemental materials are a must!!The bonus questions simply repeat themselves over-and-over again.The book as a whole lacked coverage on crucial technologies and is filled with confusing statements and answers that turn out to be mistakes- Go figure!All of which, led me to give this book 3 stars (maybe closer to 2 1/2). ... Needs a to be updated
Used it as a text book, mainly a reference. With communications rapidly changing it must be difficult to continually update.It is a fair background book, but it doesn't offer much else

Book is too dated to be effective in emerging technologies.
Although updated in 1994, most of the text material discusses old mainframe and terminal applications and was likely written during earliereditions of the text.Reading it did not provide a good basis for the telecommunications area, because it is so dated.In its day, it must have been a great text. ... A+ in the NW and Data Comm hard to find books.
The subject of Networking and Data communication is hard to teach and the good books are also hard to find.
For CE/EE users only!
This book is great if you are a CE/EE and want to get into all the little details around network protocols and how the hardware talks to each other. As a CS major (and Principal Software Engineer at my company) I have never had to go to the level this book pushes things at and it reminded me of where the computer industry was back in the early 70's. Many of the problems talk about teletypes and "high speed 2400 baud terminals" like they were developed just the other day.
Too many topics too little time
There were a lot of interesting topics covered in this book, but unfortunately because of the volume of material that the author attempted to include, there was little on any one subject.Read more

Priceless - or should be
I am completing my MSIS degree.I was required to use this textbook for one of my classes.I felt the book was possibly appropriate for an engineering computer science program on a "how things work" level but a terrible waste of time for business students.If I want to buy a cell phone I don't care HOW the cell phone works.I only care that it DOES work, and that it is dependable, accurate, reliable, and cost effective.Stop putting the OSI model in these textbooks.Just teach TCP/IP because that's what is used.If you're going to put problems at the end of the chapters, provide solutions to the students.Otherwise, you're just wasting paper because nobody will ever use them.Why work on them if you don't have a solution to compare your answers to?I have spoken to nearly half the people in my class.All agree.This textbook was a terrible choice for our class in the business program.None of us feel we learned anything of value from studying from this book.
Business Data Communications
This book arrived in a timely manner and in excellent condition. I would purchase fromthis seller again.

Not an Appropriate Introductory Textbook
A course I took earlier this year used this textbook, and I wasn't too fond of it.The book's explanations were very clinical, and other reviewers are correct in observing that it has many typographical errors (which are very frustrating when trying to solve mathematically inclined equations).

No Surprises here. It is exactly what you would expect for a Dummies book! I have been an outlook user for a long time and I know how to do much more than before!

Techie Help
Several years ago, before I retired, I used Outlook at my office and was quite comfortable with it.When I became a Comcast customer, they do not "support" Outlook so I used Outlook Express.When I was able to download Outlook, I needed a refresher course in operation and info on the upgraded version that I now had.This book helped in several ways, and I continue to use it as a reference book.It is easy to read and understand. ... Thorough coverage of all exam topics!
I've just passed the CCDA exam with this book as my primary resource. The book is fully packed with information so that every sentence has to be read thoroughly in order to avoid overlooking some important facts. The author's style of writing is a little dry, so are the topics itself. Fortunately the are many case studies that will help you to apply the theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios which is vital for passing the exam.
Impressive!Highly recommend
This book has very useful and detailed information that is hard to find elsewhere.Considering its size, the book is very well edited... I only recall seeing one typo but there were definitely not the usual amount of errors I find in other technical books.The book answered many questions I had about designing networks.I now understand what a good and bad design is and was actually able to apply what I learned in a real situation.

Having just passed the CCDA exam, I have to agree with the most recent reviewers....this book does a great job of covering the CCDA DESGN exam 640-861.But considering the size of this tome, I also highly recommend, asadjunct, the the Cisco Press Sequeira, Wallace book for focus and final test preparation. ... THE BEST SQL ADMIN RESOURCE. PERIOD.
When I have a question about SQL Server this is the first book I turn to. It packs more into its 549 pages than books nearly twice its size, and it does this by focusing on what matters and by being clear and concise.
Careful
A pet peeve i have w/ Microsoft books is they just mirror the help files. This admin pocket guide is not much more than regurgitated help files. I was hoping for some useful examples, closer to real life problems & solutions. Not there. Plz use the help files in Books Online to look up topics THEN examine the same topic in this book at a local bookstore BEFORE buying it. (Based on good reviews, i bought this & the Administrator's Guide to SQL Server 2005 by Buck Woody)
THE ONE SQL SERVER BOOK EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE
I picked up Stanek's SQL Server 2005 Administrator's Pocket Consultant and Windows Server 2003 Inside Out at the same time, and have found them both to be excellent. If there's one SQL Server book every developer, programmer and administrator should have, it's this one--I haven't found a better one and I've read half a dozen so far. Stanek has a gift for getting to the point, explaining the most complex concepts in ways that are easy to understand. He seems to pack a 1,000 pages of info into 550 pages. SQL Server 2005 Administrator's Pocket Consultant has a strong focus on security, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting. Throughout the book, there's excellent coverage of T-SQL and I prefer the way T-SQL is covered in context in this book to the way it's covered in the separate T-SQL book I bought (and no longer use). Beyond core database administration, which this book covers better than any other book, it also covers full-text search, indexes, integration services (creating packages), linked servers, distributed transactions, replication, publications, etc. The maintenance chapters are some of the strongest with complete coverage of profiling, monitoring, optimizing, backup, recovery, log shipping, database mirroring, automation, etc. Thank you Mr. Stanek for an excellent book. ...
