True inspiration, great tool!
this book is really a manual for me, i keep it with me at all times and just look at it sometimes, the colors provide inspiration, the combinations take me to other places, the make me think, they are a true inspiration and a great tool to find solutions when you're stock, take it from a Graphic design student, you'll love to have this book. For color theory not so good you might want to get something that covers color theory in detail, this is just an index as said on the tittle. but even if you know nothing about color at all, you will still find it amazingly useful!

If you're a graphic designer buy this book
I just got my first graphic design job three months ago and once I got this book both my employer and I noticed a huge difference in my work.The most helpful thing about this book is the color coding for HTML, RGB and CYMK but aside from the codes the color combinations are very helpful, especially for a beginning graphic designer.Well worth the cover price, and the turtleback cover will ensure the binding's integrity after much usage and for many years to come. ... Good for beginner....Not for advanced
This book is truely for beginners who have no clue of signal Integrity. He starts this book with stuff like Ohm's law and how capacitors and inductors work which most people learn in high school.
Probably the most readable book you'll find on this
Brook's book is exceptional in the clarity of the writing, esp. in explaining key concepts that most engineers are fuzzy on.This book is great at giving engineers an intuitive feel for basic electromagnetics and how it relates to signal integrity and emi. A chasm has been bridged...
As an educator, lecturer and practicing designer I am given many books to read and make comment on. I find very few books that are able to bridge the chasm between the needs of a beginner learning about signal integrity and the needs of a professional desperate to solve design problems. This book is an excellent primer and reference for understanding the interrelationship between the board layout and the signal integrity problem. This book details design solutions to classic signal integrity problems and educates the novice in understanding the reasoning behind the solutions. There is a lot of nonsense being written about signal integrity and few people have the resources to filter out the chaff from hay. This book proves every principle presented with tested board layouts, demonstrated engineering principles, or documented laboratory results. Some people can see the world in formulas and some see the world pictorially. This book is rich in both forms of expressionism and its presentation will not exasperate the PCB designer who sees the world visually, or frustrate the engineer seeking equations for design representation. Great Resource
The reality is that lots of graphic designers don't have formal design training, which can result in a problematic lack of production and printing knowledge. This book is easy to read (in a day), thoughtfully illustratrated, and covers the most important productino and printing issues that a designer should be aware of.
New to print? You need this book
I know a teeny tiny bit of print. Spot colours - hmm I did know that one, but since I don't do much print (or haven't til this year) I was always at a loss when it came ready for the printer.This book is an essential guide for the non print designer.

George DeWolfe's Digital Photography Fine Print Workshop
Excellent book. I have many books on digital photography and this book ranks very high. Excellent work flow recommendations and clearly written. This book will also be used as a reference text in a photography course I will be taking. I have almost completed reading the entire book and making notes.

Yes, photography can be an art
Too much emphasis is being made on the technology of digital photography, and even on the mechanics of taking pictures.Just as important is the artistic factor, which is often not even addressed in books that teach Photoshop.This book is an exception.You'll learn how to adjust the feeling and artistic approach of an image to create photographic art out of a simple digital photograph.If you want to learn more about the aesthetics of creating a digital image, this book is for you.

Having taken the workshop...
...I can recommend this book to anyone wishing to simplify CS2 and achieve great results. Yes, the book does have a few problems as outlined by another reviewer and I will leave it at that. There are many, many tools available to the photographer in PS - too many in my opinion. George will guide the reader through adjustments in RAW, the usual histogram changes, etc. and then will detail the history brush. If you have never used this tool then the book is worth the money. In many cases when trying to dodge and burn you can damage the original image if not careful. Using the history brush changes all that with more precise corrections and more control over the results. If you are not shooting RAW, you will be and you'll know why after reading this book. ... Read more

Must have reference book
The only reason I give this book a 4 star rating is because of the information that was removed from fourth to fifth edition.To serve as a complete reference you must buy both editions.The topics covered are significantly different.
Not for designing PCB
I bougth this book to have a reference on the desing of PCB. (How wide to design the traces, what distance should i use betweeen traces...)I found it prety useless. No set complete without this reference book!

A Cancer upon American Letters
Knowing that I go against the current strain of popular thought, I am writing to urge people not to buy this error-laden work of fools.The Chicago Manual of Style has done more to devalue American writing than anything other than the educational cutbacks initiated in the early 80's by the Reagan administration.Many of the "rules" expounded in the Chicago Manual of Style are in direct contradiction to accepted convention; to name just two examples, the placement of a serial comma before the "and" and the addition of an "s" following the apostrophe in a possessive already ending in "s." One of the problems with Unix is its spotty support for printers. Before the advent of the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS), a particular printer needed a driver for, say, System V Unix, and a separate driver for FreeBSD. The problem has become particularly pronounced now that Linux is becoming more popular as a desktop operating system, where it competes with Windows and other operating systems under which printer installation is pretty easy. CUPS installs on all major Unix and Linux flavors, and handles the interface between printer and operating system. Driver writers can, therefore, write for CUPS and not worry about what's underneath. Outstanding introduction
If you're going to have just one book on the wide world of printmaking, make it this one. Despite its heft, over 400 pages in large format, it almost comes across as rushed. I don't mean sloppily done, quite the opposite, but with just so much to say that the pages can barely hold it all.

Best intro to the history of printing
Chappell and Bringhurst have put together an informative, enjoyable book on printed text. It starts with a brief history of writing in general, then of the Roman alphabet now used for most European languages. Along the way, we see a few hints about the history of page layout and other typographic concerns. The book devotes a few pages to the skilled craft of punch-cutting, of carving the steel stamps that represented the master copies from which metal type was replicated.
Check out updated version by R. Bringhurst
The Canadian typographer and book designer Robert Bringhurst updated Chappell's (1904-91) history. He is also the author of Element of typographic style (which is also a classic) a must read

SHE NAILED IT. THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC.
I've been design print material on the desktop for almost two decades and I wish I had this book since my first day.EVERYONE WHO WORKS WITH DESKTOP PUBLISHING SHOULD HAVE THIS BOOK AT THEIR SIDE.The author really knows what designers go through, and really knows her stuff. As I was reading it, I couldn't help but mutter aloud every few pages, "Wow! This is great advice!" It's like Claudia McCue was sitting next to me during all the DTP issues I've ever had-- and answered all my questions.And, she's not application-isolated in her approach... the author writes separate chapters for each major DTP app and intertwines hints when necessary.If you're not learning lots of new things from this book, you're not from this planet. I love this resource, and I'll be referring to it often!

Must have for graphic artists
I've been in graphic art business for 30years and I still learned a few things from this book. Its a must have for the new digital world. If you want to make your life easier and avoid costly mistakes you must read this book. A lot of helpful tips inside that are actually current to the latest technology, it even explains such stuff as font issues in Mac OSX. Highly recommended

"Perfect Pages": a clear and accessible guide for book creation
I enjoyed Aaron Shepard's "Perfect Pages", a clear and accessible guide for book creation using Microsoft Word instead of expensive publishing software. Shepard shows that Word actually has some advantages for publishers, tells how to make Word do what's needed, while avoiding some of Word's hazards. Thus the book delivers worthwhile Word tips for novices and experts alike---and there are more web resources at the end of the book---but it's more than that, because a book is more than a manuscript: it has to look good and read easily. "Perfect Pages" covers the details (fonts, typography, trim sizes, formatting, covers, generating PDF files, common errors . . .), showing how to make manuscripts into attractive and readable books. The book provides the ideal bridge between a Word software manual and a publishing manual (such as Morris Rosenthal's) that teaches business and strategic decisions. "Perfect Pages" is a gracefully written book that wastes few words, and minces none.
Makes self-publishing affordable for everyone
When I decided to self-publish my first book, I was intimidated by how expensive it was going to cost to buy Page Maker and I also didn't want to spend a month learning how to use it properly. Luckily, I found Aaron's ebook on Amazon and it made it possible for me to use Word and create a professional book that was accepted by the bookstores (they have a very high standard for quality print work). Now that I'm working on my second self-published book, I'm happy to see that Aaron's ebook has been updated in a paperback format. Just like the ebook, this book is essential for learning how to use Word to professionally produce your book.
Excellent guide
Like Shepard's Books, Typography, and Microsoft Word, this much-expanded version is a first-rate, user-friendly guide to designing and typesetting your book in Word. Anyone who's planning to self-publish a book will find helpful material here, particularly the sections on optimizing Word's settings to produce reliable PDF files that can be used by both POD (print-on-demand) and traditional printing services. Shepard's design advice is sound and concise; it'll help you avoid all the mistakes novice typesetters are prone to. He's especially good on the differences between the various Word programs--he covers recent versions for both Windows and Mac, and he's one of the very few who knows what EVERY setting on the file-compatibility tab does and doesn't do. He also offers some advance info about what is likely to change when Word 2006 is released. In short, this book is well worth buying--it will save you both time and money whether you're self-publishing a book, doing academic typesetting (where Word's ability to handle footnotes makes it a better choice than some page-layout programs), or just find you've been spending too much time trying to figure out how to tweak Word's settings to get the results you want. ... From good to great!
This book helped me to go from being a good amateur photographer to a great amateur photographer.Each of the 107 chapters provides a short lesson for you to read and digest, before going out to practice with your own digital camera and computer.It took me about 3 months to finish the book, and a year later I still refer back to it from time to time.
Good photo guide
This book gives you some very good tips on how to improve your photographs.Excellent help with photo shop, (better than the photo shop help).The best part about this book and author is that if you have any questions, you can email Mr. Sammons.I had some questions about other bookshe has written and emailed him expecting not to hear back for several weeks.He responded the next day!

A clear exposé of the science and concepts of color management
Understanding Color Management explains the basics of color, and the methodology of ICC profiles which the ICC (International Color Consortium) has developed to allow colors to be reproduced with fidelity by computing devices.
