Great book to start getting organized
This book gives you great ideas about how to get organiazed and get things going. The only thing is that you will really need to use and get along MS Outlook pretty well, else you'll miss some of the tips and tricks in the book.
Take Back Your Life!
I'm not even to the end of the book and I already have my e-mail box emptied to zero, all my documents and files organized on my computer into an easy reference system so I know what information I already have. I am going to apply the same principles to my paper files this week. I had so much information stored and coming in that it is a huge relief to gain control over it all! All because I applied what I learned from this book.

Stong Emphasis on Up Front Planning

Comprehensive, but still some holes
Previous reviewer's comments are noted well, but I was somewhat disappointed in the coverage of forms development.I really wanted to learn to move/place fields on a contact form and designate them drop-down, etc. Simple enough, I thought, for a book of this coverage.But even though the author talked about the abilitiy to do this, there were no directions, no examples, and no description of the 'Controls' options required to do it.For a book of this size and price, I had hoped for more meat.No, not to the detail of VB scripting, but certainly more detailed coverage of Outlook's powerful forms and macro abilities. To my chagrin, I'm finding my answers under theOutlook 'Help' section in the program itself!

A most comprehensive treatment of Outlook.Extremely well suited for an experienced Outlook user, with many details on the use in a server/business environment.Describes the interrelationship with Windows Outlook Express.Probably a little too comprehensive for the single system user just trying to read and write a few email messages. Subject matter is exceptionally well presented and thorough.

Not for Beginners
I'm surprised at the rave reviews that everyone is giving this book.I have this book and I've been reading through it and it starts off fine as it has you build a simple application in the beginning.I found that promising because I've never used Lotus Notes before so I thought this would be an excellent book.The only problem is that once you're finished with that chapter, it goes from good to really bad.The book then becomes a reference manual for the different aspects of Lotus Notes.It provides no tutorials whatsoever as one astute reviewer on here points out.If I wanted this kind of reference I could have read the help documentation for Lotus Notes.This book is only useful for people who have mastered many aspects of Lotus Notes and even then its explanations of aspects like commands are dry and not put into context.

Must Own Book for All Domino Developers
Before I go any further, I have to disclose up front that I personally and professionally know all three authors who contributed to Lotus Notes and Domino 6 Programming Bible (Brian Benz and Rocky Oliver, 2003, John Wiley And Sons, 1032 Pages, ISBN 0764526111). And Rocky, Brian and Richard will all tell you that I would still be the first one to call it like I see it, regardless of relationships. So with that in mind, to every person who works with Lotus Notes and Domino, regardless of version, and to every person who has ever posted to the Lotus developerWorks forum asking about good reference material for development: buy this book and put it on your bookshelf. I may approach coding somewhat differently than the authors, but that is the nature of all application developers. But this book does something often overlooked in too many technical books: it not only talks about how things work in Notes/Domino, it also puts out best practices and explanations for these best practices based on the authors vast depth and breadth of experience.

Very useful book
I consult it regularly when I need to do something with Outlook VBA. Its clear, intelligently written, and comprehensive.

Not for seasoned VB coders
If you've been writing in VB and VBA for awhile then this book is a large waste of money. The first half of the book covers basic VB programming concepts like For Next, Do While, Select Case, Msg Box etc.... stuff I've been doing for years.The rest of the book has some okay examples, but it's not organized in a way that allows you to find what you are looking for easily.

Absolutlely essential tool for Outlook Programming
I am a little more than a novice with VBA, but with Sue's details and explaination of the complex syntax required by Outlook, real progress was possible.I have been able to build an Outlook form with VB Script that collects data form a large number of people within my company and store it on a public foler for futher use and reference.It only took a few weeks to do that and it would not have been possible without this book.Highly recommended. ... Almost teaches you what you need to know.
I bought this book mostly to learn how to customize Contact forms.This book gives you about half the info you need.Then you hit a brick wall.I spent hours searching newsgroups and web sites to fill in the other half.There are a few simple things the author could have added so the book was actually valuable instead of incredibly frustrating.For example, the book shows you how to customize a form.Great.But then the book neglects to tell you how to apply that form to existing Contacts. ... Life changing
Amazon tells me I bought this in October 2004. Paradoxically, it doesn't seem like I've been using McGhee's system that long and at the same time it seems like I've been using it for years and years. It's very natural, simple, and easy to do. I have a windows mobile device and this system is perfect for it.
two is not a crowd
This helpful book cannot be adequately summarized except by comparison and contrast with David Allen's Getting Things Done. This is so for two reasons. First, McGhee claims in her acknowledgements to have co-developed the system that Allen has gone on to disseminate with extraordinary results. Second, the family resemblance between the two authors' work is obvious and suggests shared genetics, even down to the marginal quotations that are meant to inspire but which I found irksomely clich?.
Good framework and ideas, but felt like a sales pitch for Outlook
Similar to Getting Things Done and Seven Habits, this is a book about getting your life in order and making the best use of your time. I felt that McGhee, unlike Allen of GTD, did a great job of calling out the need to prioritize personal time and on saying "no" to tasks that don't fit into your schedule or would infringe on personal time.

Acts 2005 dummies
Book is easy to follow, very helpful to a beginner. It would probably be helpful to an experienced user but I am so new to this that I have not even looked into advanced features. I highly recommend this book.

Worthless for Word
If you just want to switch from VB to C# and are looking for a good how to reference this is not the book for you especially as it pertains to Microsoft Word.There is a solid description and how to for the range object, but that's about it.Word's Bulleted/Numbered List object, arguably the most convoluted of them all, doesn't even get mentioned and tables are glossed over in barely 2 pages.

Worst prog book i have EVER read
THERE IS NO CODE Download, you get to ALL THE DOCUMENTS YOUR SELF, I have read most of the word portion (that's why I bought the book) If I had written this book I would have created an integrated application. That's what office is all about right?I think this is a great egghead book, but for learning TERRIBLE.

No information on synchronizing
While this book does explain how to manage contacts, there is absolutely no information on the most difficult part of Act!: How to synchronize. Do not buy this book if you are looking how share databases with other users. Although there is a chapter titled, "Sharing information with others", there is no mention of how to synchronize!

Act! is a program that is as good as you want it to be:
I've used Act! 6 as long as it has been out.Prior to that, I struggled through buggy earlier versions, going back ten years or so, or however long they've been out.For my use, contact management, I've looked at other programs and have not seen any program any better than Act!, but then again, I'm used to this program.If I had to do it all over again, I would still go with Act!, but I would read this Act! for Dummies book from cover to cover.For the first few years I only learned what I felt I had to learn. And, because of that my knowledge base was limited, which resulted in Act! having a limited value to me. I can tell you that most the people in our company that use Act! don't use it like they should. They don't recognize the program's power to make them more efficient and organized.Most people will continue to use their old methods of organization, i.e., hand written Day Timer methods, etc., will never actually use the appointment scheduling features, and then tell people that Act! simply isn't helping them much. Little do they know that Act! is the most powerful organizational program that they can buy, from my view, and all they need to do is learn it and use it. It took me time, but now I have six sales people under me, who travel.They all synchronize daily, so that I can schedule things for them to do, or they can flag notes for me to read, and we're always on top of our priorities.They can be in a motel in Lansing Michigan, and me in my office in Reno, Nevada, and we're all over our responsibilities as if we're in the same office. If something important slips through the crack, it's because someone isn't using their Act! program, or they aren't using it correctly.This program is like an incredibly powerful tool if put into the hands of someone who wants to succeed, while if put in the wrong hands it will not be used, it will be useless. The learning curve can take a very long time, as it did with me, simply because I didn't want to learn any more than I had to learn, to deal with my immediate needs.The power in this program can not be unleashed unless you do more than what I did, and take the time to learn it, and make sure you work it.Some of my sales people don't even open the program in the morning for hours. How can this program help these people? But, little by little, as they see how great this program can be, they are coming around.I recommend contacting an Act! consultant, and pay them a kings ransom if necessary, but learn this program faster thanyour competition can, simply by reading this book from cover to cover TWICE if you have to.And, every time you need to learn more, don't put it off, learn it now.Time is too valuable not to put this program to work for you.You can manager yourself, a crew of people, while also managing a powerful mass mail (or email) marketing program with this program if you are smart enough to learn this program as fast as you can.There is simply no other program with this kind of power that I've ever seen.I'm sold on this program again and again, as I find ways to take advantage of its horsepower.Managing a database of contacts couldn't be done at this level without Act!But, I don't give it five stars yet, until Act! decides to put on more traveling seminars, so I can send our sales people to them in our own town at least once a year.Act!, get working on that, will you?Then again, don't let my competition learn to use Act!In that respect, it's a secret weapon.

ACT6! for Dummies is not only extremely informative, it is fun and easy to read.It is a great starting place to learn the many aspects of the program and it is a great reference once you are using the program regularly. Fast answers to common questions
I find this a great resource when you need to administer Exchange, especially for 5.5 to 2003 admins. Everything is well written, with examples given using the GUI, command prompt and scripting.

It is not easy to judiciously cover successive editions of any given software in a single book, but I must say that the efforts of the authors of this book are commendable. Any system administrator who shares his time working with both Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 would find this book indispensable. Its contents prove that getting to understand new versions of mission-critical technologies do not always mean starting from scratch.
Handy set of recipes for Exchange administrators
The cookbook style really works for a topic like Exchange server maintenance. The style defines a set of recipes where each recipe covers a single question; e.g. Rehoming Public Folders. Then it discusses the problem, gives a solution, and then discusses how the solution actually works. It gives you insight into the workings of Exchange within a practical framework.

Want to learn all about Exchange and Outlook?
I have to disagree with the reviewer who says there is not a lot of depth in this book.Sure, the author does leave out some topics but he clearly states that they can either really mess up Outlook or that they are not supported by Microsoft which can get you into trouble down the road.Otherwise, this book is the bible for Exchang and Outlook development bar none.I origianlly got it to learn how to integrate our corporate CRM system with Outlook (our sales reps live in Outlook!).The book is well written, has lots of samples and gave me the kick start I needed to get my job done.

Very disappointing
This is a good example of a book written by an author who just wanted to "write" and finish a book. I doubt if the author really knows the subject.
Not what I expected
After purchasing this book and skimming through all of it while reading the sections I was interested in more thoroughly (VBScript and Custom Forms), and then going through everything a 2nd time, I was extremely disappointed.

Although this book is a bit dated covering Domino R5, I would still say it has been a very valuable aide in learing Domino/Lotus administration on R6.5.3.I wish there had been some flow charts on the routing process at the end of chapter 8, and some packet header diagrams of the Notes RPC protocol.

Good for a real Dummy
I bought this book for a client who uses Outlook for email.I've ready quite a bit of it myself and so far, everything we've needed to figure out has been covered in the book. Outlook is complicated, this book is simple and worth it
Outlook is a great, albeit complex, program.It is impossible for a book (especially a Dummies book) to be an authoritative text on the program.But Outlook for Dummies goes a long way to giving a user or even an administrator of a mid-sized operation essential information to get started and use Outlook effectively.For advanced features, I depended on MS Press Book "Running Outlook 2000".Dummies has a wide breadth of information which is simple, readable and applicable to practical use of MS Outlook in an office environment.
