1-0 out of 5 stars The Truth
A fallacious account of Macedonian history, most likely fueled by greek propaganda. Most literature on the history of Macedonia is manipulated by foreign parties with their own interests at hand. If you are interested in the history of Macedonia I encourage you to read materials from all sides, and speak to people. The truth is never easy to find. History can never be changed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother.
A totally self serving book paid for by grants from the Greek government.Revisionary histroy of the worst kind. The authour considers himslf a new Pan-Hellenist and his perspective is more thatn a little jaundiced.5-0 out of 5 stars An EXCELLENT book on the Balkans!
Recent events in the Balkans have shown that due to the ethnological, geopolitical and historical complexity of the region, serious in depth analysis is of paramount importance in understanding the truth.Apart from the thousands that have died as a result of the break up of Yugoslavia in the 1990's, another victim has been the truth, as is the case in most wars, especially in the 20th century. 4-0 out of 5 stars Brief but very useful
This book is more an essay on Alexander the man than a study of Alexander the general, though all the campaigns and major battles are mentioned. The author discusses both positive and negative aspects of Alexander. There is some discussion of his father Phillip, but essentially no discussion on the Successors. There is only one map, covering Alexander's entire march, but enough sites are listed on the it to make it useful. The book is easy to read, with the language flowing nicely.Recommended if you're looking for a brief introduction and quick read, as I was.

4-0 out of 5 stars Impressed by the Great the book showed , not the book itself

1-0 out of 5 stars Apotheosis
So, the synopsis of the book is that Ancient Makedonians were slavic. According to the author, the Ancient Makedonians did not speak a Hellenic dialect and Alexander the Great's tutor, Aristotle, taught him a slavic dialect. In a Socratic dialogue, that makes Aristotle a slav too since he was born in Ancient Makedonia and returned there when in exile.(I need to burn my history books.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Macedonia is Macedonia and the people of it are Macedonian (slavic) not Greek.
Macedonia is Macedonia and the people of it are Macedonian (slavic) not Greek. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant (99% of the time it happens to be a jealous Greek). What kind of country makes another country change its name and national flag under false pretences that the use of the name "Macedonia" implies territorial advances towards the northern region of Greece also called "Macedonia" (which is merely similar to a county in the U.S.) A jealous country like Greece does. I am speaking to the 99% of Greeks that are like this, I appolagize to the other 1%, but you Greeks should all quit being so ignorant and recognize Makedonija for what it is (Just like almost every other country in the world has). A slavic country on the Balkan Penninsula.
1-0 out of 5 stars Macedonia will always be a part of Greece

5-0 out of 5 stars Long life for Macedonia
Thank you for the good wishes about my country - Macedonia my dear Greek neighbour. It would be better for you and for all of us if you leave your nationalistic rhetoric and if you try to live in the 21_st century, not in the history...
1-0 out of 5 stars no doubt: its greek!
just a question! do the fyrom speak the language that spoke Alexander the Great? no they dont! why? cause at the time of alexander these slaws didnt exist at this area. fyrom was and is a fake-coubtry built by tito. at the time of alexander there were city states but all were greeks similar situation as in germany few centuries ago. i wish fyrom a long life but please without these lies. just learn greek, may be then u get a chance, to think you are greek!4-0 out of 5 stars Greek Denial of the Macedonian Name
The most important thing to remember about the "Macedonian conflict" is that the Greek position has changed dramatically over the past decade. Official Greek government policy was that Macedonia did not exist. When Greece took over Aegean Macedonia in 1913, they killed, tortured and ethnically cleansed hundreds of thousands of Macedonians. They changed the names of people, villages, and landmarks from Macedonian to Greek in their attempts to eradicate the Macedonian name. Two things to remember:Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars James Pettifer; Publicist or Writer?
Most writers when they write, whether it is fiction or non-fiction, tend to do some sort of research. I find that Mr. Pettifers writng is based not on unbiased research, but based on1-0 out of 5 stars Where are the Macedonians?
This tired collection of essays managed to miss the entire flavorof the country and the question. The lack of perspective on the issues is obvious - there is not a single Macedonian contribution or perspective in the mix.
