4-0 out of 5 stars Supporting the truth (and the author)
It would be stupid to claim that Yane Sandansky [the organizer of the kidnapping] did not feel himself Bulgarian. Here is how Sandansky explains his idea about a free Macedonia in an interview for the Italian newspaper "Seculo" concerning the 1912 occupation of Vardar and Egean Macedonia from Serbia and Greece:
1-0 out of 5 stars What research???? I'm a Macedonian the same as what Yane Sandanski is!
When writing things on this subject, you should take into account that there is a Macedonia today, and that there are Macedonians today, your sources are the same ones that divided Macedonia into four parts amongs the neighbouring countries. What i also found funny is that the principal organiser the Macedonian revolutionary Yane Sandanski is called a Bulgarian, when in fact he is actually killed by Bulgarian spies, funny Bulgarian.....But I'm not blaiming you totally, it's not your fault, old newspaper clipping/articles did call them Bulgarians, even though they in Macedonia repeatedly called themselves Macedonians. You really had to do a better research than this, todays Macedonians would have given you help. With this book you also have denied an existance of an ethnic Macedonian race, and replaced them with in fact what turned to be the enemies of the Macedonians, Bulgarians, this is much deeper than you think, again not your fault entirely, and this is coming from a Macedonian, just like Yane Sandaski would have said, and not from a Bulgarian, Serb or a Greek. There is only one Macedonia, the Macedonian Macedonia.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little known event in American and Bulgarian history.
The book is a short read about the life and abduction of Miss Stone--a middle aged spinster American missionary serving in Macedonia, a part of the then Ottoman Empire. If people knew the history of Macedonia, they would know that Albanians, Greeks, Serbs, and Bulgarians all consider this part of their ethnic lands. This is perhaps why all the other reviewers have an ax to grind in regards to who the kidnappers were.Regardless of who the kidnappers were (and they were probably some of all the ethnic groups), this story portrays the kidnapping, ransoming, and return of Miss Stone and her Bulgarian friend. The story shows how the American government and NGO reacted to the ransoming on an innocent.

2-0 out of 5 stars Greek Denial of the Macedonian Name
The most important thing to remember about the "Macedonian conflict" is that the Greek position has changed dramatically over the past decade. Official Greek government policy was that Macedonia did not exist. When Greece took over Aegean Macedonia in 1913, they killed, tortured and ethnically cleansed hundreds of thousands of Macedonians. They changed the names of people, villages, and landmarks from Macedonian to Greek in their attempts to eradicate the Macedonian name.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ghanian understands UN
This is a great examination of a peacekeeping mission by a seasoned African professional. It was fascinating to read about Macedonia in this book and the efforts of the UN peacekeepers to keep it safe. They are a proud people and deserve all the protection they can get. Many peoples today are degraded in the international arena.Africans are sometimes lumped in a negative category as Macedonians are sometimes lumped in a negative category. The fact that an African wrote the Agenda for Peace that led to the Macedonian president accepting this this UN mission is notable.Notable also the fact that an African continued this mission. Both the country and the UN saw the need for peace instead of bloodshed and conducted peace successfully while the rest of that part of Europe was behaving as killer nationalists. Africans share with Macedonians many things such as a unique culture, the hardships of a lower standard of living than most of the west and a love of different cultures and great music and rhythms.I hope Macedonia survives and has a great future.I hope links between Africa and Macedonia can be increased, especially musically.5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Study
Mr Williams, as part of the UNPREDEP mission, was in a good position to comment upon it.Moreover, his love of Macedonians of all communities shines through, and he decides, quite early in the text, (although with a tiny bit of cowardly rejoinder) to call the country Macedonia and its people Macedonians. 3-0 out of 5 stars Greek Denial of the Macedonian Name!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Definitive Biography of the Most Intriguing Diadochi
This is a remarkably interesting scholarly biography of the man I've always found to be the most interesting of the Successors of Alexander.Antigonus the One-Eyed originally seemed one of the least likely of Alexander's Generals to come into the dead King's inheritance, but thanksto his shrewdness, military skill, and the mistakes of others, within tenyears of Alexander's death he had taken control of two-thirds of the deadKing's former realm.Twelve years later, all of the other Successorsunited against him in a great coalition, and Antigonus went down fighting(at the age of 80) at the Battle of Ipsus in 301 B.C.The ancients sawAntigonus's life as a cautionary tale about the dangers of hubris andvaulting ambition; Billows takes a more positive view.
