4-0 out of 5 stars ANCIENT DIFFERENCES
THE ANCIENT MACEDONIANS AND THE ANCIENT GREEKS ARE NOT THE SAME PEOPLE. THE GREEKS WERE ADVANCED IN EDUCATION AND CULTURE, WHEREAS THE MACEDONIANS WERE MORE OR LESS BARBARIANS. WHEN READING THE ANCIENT TEXTS UNDISCRIMATORILY, THE DIFFERENCES ARE OBVIOUS. THE GREEKS FAVORED DEMOCRACY AND THE CONCEPT OF A CITY STATE(..ATHENS,FOR EXAMPLE) WHILE THE MACEDONIANS HAD A KINGDOM AND WERE RULLED BY THEIR KING(..PHILIP,ALEXANDER,ETC.)IN ALEXANDER THE GREAT'S ARMY, THE GREEKS PLAYED AN INSIGNIFIGANT ROLE AS HE RELIED MOSTLY ON HIS MACEDONIANS TO FILL IMPORTANT RANKS. GREEKS FOUND MACEDONIAN TO BE UNINTELLIGABLE AND VICE VERSA. KING PHILIP OF MACEDON UNIFIED GREECE THRU WAR AGAINST HER WISHES. HIS SON ALEXANDER RULED GREECE AS A CONQUERER NOT AS A HERO, AND GREECE WAS FOREVER TRYING TO THROW OFF THE MACEDONIAN YOKE. IT IS CLEAR FROM THE SPEECHES OF THE GREEK ORATOR DEMOSTHENES WHAT HE FELT AND THOUGHT ABOUT MACEDONIANS("THEY ARE BARBARIANS AND NOT EVEN GREEK!")

5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant
this book is a very thorough work on ancient Macedonians and their culture. very readable and extremely informative. you don't need to be a professor to understand the book. this work goes nicely with "The Descendents of Alexander the Great of Macedon" by Aleksandar Donski
1-0 out of 5 stars PURE PROPAGANDA
I have one simple question to ask Gandeto. How can Aelxander's tutor Aristotle be unquestionably Greek and not Alexander when the were both Macedonians???...Another attempt to falsify history to further the agenda of redrawing borders in the Balkans....Macedonians were and will always be Greek. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Clear spectrum of Phoeniciain ancienttimes
The english translation of Ernest Row's "Phoenicia and WesternAsia" by the learned Raymond Weill is a complete accomplisfed workwith its own index. Raymond Weill, Director of D'Etudes AL'ecoleDesHautes E'tudes and Charge' De Cours A' LA Faculte' Des Lettres De Paris, inthe 1940's , which makes him very close to the excavations done by theFrench and German Argeologist between the two wars.Fifty years have passedsincethe book was first published in London, and the materialis firstto read. Weill takes us in his book from the fourth Millennium B.C.geographical setting of Phoenicia and its Syro-Palestine Plato to theMacedonian Conquest thru Egyptianand Hittite sources and then making useof the recent Ugarithicexcavations ta Ras-Shamra. The absence of sourcesto the preiod of indpendance (from 1200to the early ninth century)can nowbe explained by the publishing of David Rohl "Pharaohs and Kings"in 1995 in which he concludes that the 21st and 22nd Dynasties were notchronologically sequential as is currently beleived, but partlycontemporary hance eliminating at least a centuary of the conventionalchronology of that epoch. Weill dwarfs the presence of the Israelites inthe region prior to the ninth Century, still today confirmed by theStateof Israels ' Archiological excavations, also clarified by Donald Redfordbook "Egypt,Canaan and Israel in Ancient Times. What is astonishing isthe role played by Phoeniciain the early settlsments of the Mediteranianbasin and the continuing uniterupted relationship with Egypt, and the rolePhoenicia played in developing the Alphabet and its early use in lower andeasternEgypt (the Arab mountains of Herodotus and Sinai) which makes thetheory of Emile Durzi of the Algiers that 'THE PHARAOHS SPOKE ARABIC ' afact. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
The book in question is a perspective of the author done to perfection. It is not written with any notion of promoting scholarly balance in mind.Nor does it reflect on its use as a tool for propagating disinformation. This book merely discounts any information and evidence that presents itself as contrary to the views proposed by this work.As such, its value as a research tool outside of the study of propaganda is significantly diminished. The work is presented as pure research, but rather it shows itself to be a tiresome quagmire of propaganda which ultimately achieves no purpose other than fuelling continued ill feeling between two distinct ethnic groups.

5-0 out of 5 stars Macedonia will always be a part of Greece

5-0 out of 5 stars An accurate and moving book
Contrary to the view of a reader supposedly from Macedonia, there are no factual errors in Children of the Bird Goddess, although I am sure there are some people from "Greek" Macedonia who would like to believe so. I challenge this person to say what those supposed errors are, rather than just make unsubstantiated allegations. 1-0 out of 5 stars A Macedonian Biography
I suggest reading first other biographies about the Macedonian Era,the customs and the way of living these ancestors had.I found many false statements throughout the book that probably as it seems they are being created ,maybe without purpose or because of the luck in knowledge , by the effect and the style the writers have in their societies and ideals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Children of the Bird Goddess
If you are looking for a detailed description and an explanation of Macedonian village life and culture from the perspective of a woman who lived each experience, this is the book for you.Kita weaves, as only amother can, the story of her family as they strive to overcome wars, persecution, and prejudice, as well as cultural superstitions and mountainvillage ways. This book uncoverd the background and meaning to many aspectsof Macedonian family life which I have observed and wondered about. I foundmy head nodding as I read while lightbulbs turned on in my mind. A detailedmap of the village region would have been helpful since most villages aretoo small to be placed on a modern map. This book is a must to someoneneeding insight into Macedonian culture and politics from the homefrontviewpoint. ... Read more
