2-0 out of 5 stars I expected more from Marvel
I don't know if it's me, but this book was is not what I expected. The artwork in my opinion was not that great. The stories were somewhat bland and flat. One story is completed made up of splash pages (all art) and with nothing written on it. You figure with Marvels stable of talented artist, they artwork would have been better. The only halfway decent story was the last one in which the media, along with government, manipulates the news in order to give the people war propaganda news in which the human are winning, and not disclosing the casualties nor suffering that are being endured by mankind. If you truly want to read a gripping graphic novel with amazing artwork, check out Pride of Baghdad. Now that's a great graphic novel.

2-0 out of 5 stars Opinion of a bigtime game/comic fan
Halo is a great game, and some of these artists have done other work which is awesome. But I have to say that this book didn't do it for me.I'm not a very analytical person when it comes to comics.I read them, and then I just ask myself if I had a good time.I didn't.

1-0 out of 5 stars Something STINKS and it is not the zombies
WARNING! This book WILL offend a lot of fans.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's feeding time
A while ago, Mark Millar spun a tale during his run on Ultimate Fantastic Four in which an alternate reality was introduced in which Marvel's first family were zombified flesh eaters.Well, just imagine if pretty much all of the Marvel universe heroes and villains were the flesh eating undead, only they still had their powers and wits about them.Robert Kirkman, best known for his incredible Walking Dead series, knows a few things about zombies, and the yarn he spins here is one of the guiltiest pleasures you'll ever read.Magneto is seemingly the inly unaffected super-human on the planet, and he's face to face with Captain America, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Giant Man, Luke Cage, Wolverine, Daredevil, Thor, and every other Marvel hero you can name who has been zombified.Soon enough, the Silver Surfer arrives to Earth foretelling of the coming of Galactus who plans to devour the planet. And oh yeah, guess who the Marvel Zombies plan on devouring too.Sometimes predictable, loaded with dark humor, and wonderfully drawn by Sean Philips; Marvel Zombies is a fleshy treat. From Spidey's self loathing ("I can't believe I ate my wife and aunt!") to Giant Man keeping Black Panther alive and sawing off a few parts to eat, Marvel Zombies may not be a Marvel MAX title, but it's definitely not for the squeamish.A big load of fun that's over too quick, Marvel Zombies is a worthy pick up for longtime Marvel readers looking to see the company's icons in a different, slightly decomposed light.

4-0 out of 5 stars Visually pleasing, short on story line
Let me preface my review by saying that outside of the Walking Dead series, I have read very little graphic novels/comic books since I was a kid.So if you are a passionate fan of the genre, you may not gain much incite from my review. If you are a fan of the Walking Dead series or zombie works in general, my review is pointed more at you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait....characters need some improvement.
I waited impatiently for #5. I was hooked from the first time I saw the cover. The social comentary is valid and some of the characters are well done. The need for firearms in society is positivley reinforced- a brave stand by the authors considering the current cultural war against guns. Certain characters are making decsions that are just plain stupid. This series is fiction, but was meant to examine how people would live long term. They would learn from their mistakes regarding security, and not go galivanting and compromise their group. Any less thought and the series will begin to be a pure horror series, with people being stupid just to keep the body count up. I am waiting for #6.

5-0 out of 5 stars The road goes ever onward
This ongoing saga continues and continues to impress.Rick and company have settled in at the prison and although there have been numerous traumas both related to the walking dead and to the interpersonal dynamics, the little community seems to be in fairly good shape nowadays.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait...
Well, it took forever for Image to release "Walking Dead 5: The Best Defense."Thankfully, it was worth the wait.

5-0 out of 5 stars Continues to Impress
I've been collecting comics for 16+ years. I was introduced to Amazing Spider-Man during the Michelinie/Bagley run, and I wasn't particularly impressed with the character's direction at the time. I returned to the franchise when Straczynski took over, and from there I leapfrogged to Ultimate Spider-Man.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Spider-Man versus Deadpool, Moebius, the Punisher and Daredevil (oh my)
In "Ultimate Spider-Man" Annual #1, Kitty Pryde and Peter Parker went out on their first date and took down a (semi) super-villain together.Things are progressing pretty well, but this is Spider-Man so you knew the downside of dating an X-Men was going to show up and in the 4-part "Deadpool" story ("Ultimate Spider-Man #91-94), it does with a vengeance.Written by Brian Michael Bendis, with pencils by Mark Bagley and inks by Danny Miki, the story begins after another crime-fighting date, Peter is settling down for a nice quiet night at home, when the X-Men's jet arrives, hovering over his house. When Spider-Man climbs aboard he discovers there is no one on board and when it flies on autopilot to the X-Mansion, Spider-Man find Kitty waiting for him--with an electric stun-gun that knocks him out. Then "Kitty" changes shape, and if you do not know into who then you are simply not paying attention to the title of this story arc.

4-0 out of 5 stars alls well but a short love segment
i bought this and read it through in 2 nights, enjoying it as though it were a lengthy zombie movie. it was all very enjoyable but i grew impatient maybe 3/4 of the way through when it transformed from survival to passion.good artwork, not too gruesome, high quality book materials.looks good on shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dose it get any better than this?
This is my all time favorite comic of any genre. With out a doubt Rob and the gang have pulled out all the jucie chunks of extra guts. this is a must have for any fan of the comics or of zombies. This is hands down the best zombie epic ever. I'd Like to thank Rob Kirkman, Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard, Clif Rathburn (PS. thanks for the autograph), the rest of the staff at image for producing something that has touched me and many others like us. 5-0 out of 5 stars A excellent saga
Since there have been a huge amount of reviews already done, I won't regurgitate the same exact points made already.Bottom line is that this is an excellent saga that goes well beyond the normal apocalyptic tale.I don't get the sense that things will or need to end anytime soon for our group of people just trying to survive in a horrible situation.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Zombie Tale That's Not About the Zombies
Robert Kirkman is quickly moving up my list of favorite comics authors. While Brian K. Vaughan and Joss Whedon still occupy the top spots, Kirkman is definitely getting close to them with his amazing books, including Invincible and The Walking Dead.Unlike Vaughan, who is known for his high-concept books, Kirkman excels at taking the mundane and making it fascinating.Case in point: The Walking Dead is a zombie story that focuses on character development.
5-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of a great story
First, don't let this book make you decide on the rest of the series. It's supposed to be a long version of Romero's Dawn of the Dead. The zombies and the rules are the same, but the story takes its own twists and turns. This story takes a look at the human aspect of a zombie outbreak and how the people deal with the situations that arise. It's a great case study of human relationships under the strain of constant tragedy. My friends that have borrowed this or gotten it themselves, have become addicted to it.It's a great series. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Moving On
In the second volume of Robert Kirkman's character study disguised as a zombie book, Rick and the other survivors finally pack up the RV and break camp. The idea to stay on the move was vetoed by Rick's partner Shane, but with him gone, Rick is now the unquestioned leader of the group.Rick's young son Carl was forced to kill Shane when he threatened to kill Rick over the matter of Lori, Rick's wife, whom Shane had fallen in love with. However, it seems that before Rick met up with the camp, Lori, who believed Rick to be dead, had sex with Shane, and that fact comes back to haunt the couple in a few ways.
5-0 out of 5 stars Things fall apart; the center cannot hold!
The Walking Dead Volume 2 continues to show humanity falling apart. It's not just the living verses the dead. It's the living verses the living. When drastic things happen people also change , weather good or bad. The story as well as the art work has got more gritty.

5-0 out of 5 stars An enthralling comicbook series
Like many readers, I've been an on again/off again comicbook fan for many years... In the last couple of years (since the year 2000) I've returned to the fold, this time taking advantage of the many top-quality graphic novels out there, and Robert Kirkman's "Walking Dead" was one of the titles most frequently recommended to me since I started this reading spree. It lives up to the hype.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's tough to capture hope...
... and hopelessness. Kirkman and crew have done a great job of showing us the difficult parts of humanity we might not otherwise want or need to understand. I believe zombie story lovers don't relish in the gore, but in the struggle. Overwhealming odds, the world out to get you, you don't understand a thing, zombies endlessly crawling overthemselves to get at you. It's more like real life. The Walking Dead is a masterpiece of humanity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scary comicbook series!

3-0 out of 5 stars THE WORST SO FAR
The Walking Dead has in many respects been the most rewarding zombie narrative to emerge in a couple of decades and, as such, the series as a whole easily deserves 5 stars. Then why just three for this book? Well, the Five Star Fan Boys below are cruising on sheer enthusiasm, offering up comic idolatry rather than employing their critical faculties responsibly. Book 4 - which does have some killer expansion of character - also loses some of the sharpness, some of the realism, and some of the tenacious sense of impending horror that marked the first three installments. It also shows the first time that Kirkman writes himself into a corner - "You kill, you die" - and then cheats his way out of the concluding actions. Either Kirkman made a tactical error in coosing the central theme or he lost his balls -- either way, this book is by far the weakest installment of the four Walking Dead collections. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Safty Behind Bars...not likely!
In a world where the dead rule, a band of the living take refuge in a prison. Seems a little too easy, but what could go wrong...don't worry about the dead ones. It's the living prisoners you need to watch out for. When Hershel opened that door and I turned the page...my jaw dropped to the floor. Totally wasn't expecting it. Volume 3 is the best so far.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like it a lot, but I'm not sure I get it
I did like this book.I really have enjoyed all the Sandman books so far.But as much as it galls me to admit it, I'm not sure I understand quite what the big deal is.I keep hearing about and reading about how fabulous they are.And yeah, they're interesting. It's an interesting world that Gaiman has created and I think the character of the Sandman is intriguing/fascinating.And the Sandman is good-looking in some of the panels. But I don't understand what about these novels/comics draws people in so much.I don't understand why the Midsummer Night's Dream one won that prestigious award which ticked the other authors off so they had to change the rules to specifically exclude a graphic novel from being entered ever again.I don't understand why this series is supposed to grab women readers in a way that other comic/graphic novel offerings haven't.It's a bit like David Bowie music, to me.I like it a lot.But partly, that's because I Want to like it.I think it (the music, or the graphic novel) is really weird and I don't understand why everybody else, with no inner urging, likes it so much. And then I read the preface to this book and the guy talks about all these layers and all this depth that I guess I'm really just not getting at all.Which also bugs me because I like to think that I'm smart. But, granted, I've only read it one time and that kind of stuff does usually become more apparent with multiple readings.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best installments of an amazing series!
This installment of The Sandman series was probably one of my favorite filled with many psychological implications as well as beautiful artwork which will dazzle your brain! The stories found within this book are some of the greatest in the series as well, especially the one featuring Thessaly and the "princess." The source for many Sandman quotations, this installment is one of the best!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Little Different Than the Rest (But No Worse For It)
Of the Sandman collection that I've read, this is the least like any of the others thus far. Instead of being vignettes (either independent or loosely tied) that revolve around Morpheus, lord of dreams, this is a start-to-finish story of a group of women trying to rescue their friend who is trapped in her dreamworld, and threatened by a malevolent force.

3-0 out of 5 stars Trite, pointless Batman - Wagner can do better
Make no mistake, I am a huge Batman fan and a Matt Wagner fan to boot.Wagner did great work on Grendel, Mage, and even did great work with Batman in Faces, Trinity and Batman/Grendel I & II.But, this is trite. The story has Batman doing the typical heroic stuff we've seen in countless stories by now, hiding his identity from his current flame, having Alfred cover for him, fighting the bad guys and coming up with an impossible escape.
5-0 out of 5 stars An underated classic!
Probably the best Batman story of 2005. Matt Wagner is one of the best Writer/Artist to contribute to batman in the last few years and has produced work that stands shoulder to shoulder with classic stories by the Likes of Frank Miller, Alan Moore and Grant Morrison.
5-0 out of 5 stars A TALE OF BATMAN'S EARLY CAREER
"Batman & the Monster Men" collects the six issue limited series into trade paperback format and is written and illustrated by Matt Wagner.Wagner sets this story in early Batman history, just about a year or so after the caped crusader first made his appearance in Gotham City. One of the advantages of setting a story in the past like this is that it gives the writer some poetic license to re-envision things as he likes and Wagner takes advantage of this in several ways. One is in the introduction of the Batmobile after Batman's first remote controlled, and rather mundane looking vehicle is destroyed in a crash. There's a rather amusing scene in the book when Alfred sees the car for the first time and wonders why Batman doesn't add tailfins to make it look even more like a bat...and idea that Batman takes quite seriously.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
This book is amazing. Continuing the classic Hellsing series, the gothic horror in this book is awesome. We get to see the Vatican's Iscariot Agency go all out. My only regret is that the Major is only seen once in this entire volume. Other than that, it's awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has its own merits
Granted, there was a lot of setup going on in this volume, but I also thought that it had quite a bit in it that made it good on its own. There were several parts that I thought were absolutely hilarous, as well as parts that were awesome and others that were downright disturbing. There was some great action going on. I was sad that Alucard wasn't really in it much, but at the same time I think this allowed some space to develop the other characters. Alucard kicks some serious butt, but some of the other characters can be cool in their own ways, and Volume 6 really shows that. You have to keep in mind that this is part of a SERIES and that Volume Seven will undoubtedly continue what was begun in Volumes 5 and 6.

4-0 out of 5 stars hopefully volume 7 will be better.
let me just get this out of the way, this volume was pretty much (at least, i sincerely hope), created just to set up volume 7. it doesn't really get interesting until the last couple chapters. the rest is just kind of meh. also, alucard is in this for about 5 pages. not even in a row, just spread out because he is still on the ship that he destroyed in volume 5. so overall, this book is merely ok. not the best, not the worst. i suggest this only to people who are fans of the series and want to know what happens to the hellsing crew. otherwise, this book won't interest you a whole lot. now, to count down the days until volume 7 arrives. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than I first thought.
As solid as this is for its character development and battlefield black-humor, it does twist me a bit as to how invincible Guts is. Though, if he wasn't such an irresistable force in the face of highly resilient enemies, then where would we get the adrenaline rush, the 'berserk'? Other than some overly cute likenesses of beautiful characters, one has to appreciate the measured development of serious themes, the moments of comedic relief, and the perverse parade of villains.(Just wondering - do the dimensions of Guts' sword have any correlation to the size of his frontal lobe? Who cares!? Shwing for the stars!!)

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Back, and For Good This Time
Berserk, in the previous volume, lost a lot of momentum during the "political intrigue" part of the story. It just didn't seem like the same old Berserk I had come to know and love, especially after getting five volumes of almost constant battling and bloodshed with only enough story to reveal character motivation. Luckily, though, by the end of the last volume, I knew that this volume and the ones following would be exciting (especially since I've seen the anime), and the slow, action-driven story is about to get deep and dark, as it was in the beginning volumes.
4-0 out of 5 stars Guts gains focus
Our hero has been dragged along by fate and has lived in the shadow of Griffith's dream. Through his pleasing interlude with Caska and a very drawn out sword battle, he becomes his own man. In this story of dreams, I can see this will be a major plot point.
