3-0 out of 5 stars This historian is a good read
Okay, this is an enjoyable book, but far less enjoyable than any Harry Potter novel. I have yet to read the end, but I am disappointed that Dracula, himself, shows up only in the last 100 or so pages. That's lame.
5-0 out of 5 stars I suddenly wish I were a Historian... Wonderful*****
I found The Historian to be a wonderful & easy read from beginning to the end.Very well written.VERY Dracula-esque.If you loved Bram Stoker's original masterpiece, you will love this as well.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely!
The story begins with our heroine finding a bunch of old letters, all addressed, quite melodramatically, to "My Dear and Unfortunate Successor". Shortly afterwards, her father goes missing and she uses the letters to try and track him down. Her quest takes to monasteries and libraries all over Europe, and she finds herself being hunted down by a sinister figure - the same being that has haunted both her grandfather and father's letters, and who may be the cause of her mother's mysterious death. As she delves deeper, she finds out more about her family history and begins to understand just how truly terrible her adversary is.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
If you read all the rest of the dark books this is a great book. It has a the books in one adding to them. Very hard to put down.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Carpathians are BACK!!
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book.Ms. Feehan is incredible. She bought back every beloved character from the past and made their contribution to the story breathtaking.I even enjoyed Adrienne and Aidan's story. And, their book DArk Gold was the only miss Ms. Feehan ever had.Skylar and Dimitri's story is almost to delicious to wait for but, that Manolito.I cannot wait for Manolito and his heroinnes book.IT will be awesome. This book extended the series and bought me even closer into the Carpathian world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Christine!!
I own all the books in the carpathian series.I have waited months for this book & I was not disappointed!!I have always wondered what went on with the characters after their book was finished. Now I know... I love that this book was a reunion of all the characters.Christine Feehan brought back all of my favorite characters, brought in some humor, but this was still a Carpathian book, still a romance novel, but a little more family oriented.I loved that she explained more about the past of some of the characters, and opens it up for more books to come.I can't wait for the next book!!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars excellent characterizations!
This is a quick, riveting read for fans of the "woo-woo" factor. The real strength here is the character of Harper Blaine, a woman with new skills she did not seek out but must now learn to manage.Richardson does a fine job in portraying the tension between Harper's new life and her nostalgia for the simpler more clear cut world she inhabited before her injury.Several subsidiary characters are also nicely portrayed - the young college student who has gone missing, a computer "geek" who matter of factly helps Harper even as he perceives the truth of her situation and an attractive antiques dealer who hopes to be a permanent romantic person in Harper's life.
4-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing New World

3-0 out of 5 stars Ouch?
The grey between life and death does feel like an overdone premise lately, but I was hopeful for this new book. I'm still hopeful, and might read the next installment from this author, but I need to get over this one, first.

1-0 out of 5 stars What happened Laurell K?
I was a fan of the Anita series from the beginning. The last couple books were dissapointing, but I went ahead and bought this one in the hopes things would have improved. They have not.The nearly non-existent plot takes a back seat to the gratuitous sex scenes. The characters have stopped developing along with any interesting story lines.I'm sad to say that I'm now giving up on this series. This will be the last Anita book I read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful AND Hot
I'm always on the edge of my seat waiting for the next Laurell K. Hamilton, and always on edge of my seat as I read. The beautiful prose, the characters who become so real that you genuinely care what happens to them - and think about them long after you've closed the book - make reading her a one of a kind experience. And then there's the sex scenes! They're so evocative, so original in the way they're imagined and described that Ms. Hamilton absolutely stands alone. She is an Original and a treasure, and I know I'll be grateful for every new book that comes out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stop, please.Just stop.

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesnt age like wine
The book is well written but never delivers the punch it tries to build. It borders on 'who cares?' as it drags and drags on. The new generation of readers will not get the stuggle of a man living in a futuristic 70's though wriiten in the 50's. Its supposed to take place in the seventies which it clearly is not.
1-0 out of 5 stars Snoooooooze
I thought "I am Legend" was a real snooze - pretty boring actually. I also thought it wasn't very well thought out. Matheson poses some questions throughout the story but never answers them. So you never really know how the plague starts or why. You never fully understand how it spread and how the main character ends up where he is. Then you never understand why the woman het meets is the way she is. Then the ending is sort of like "oh well, it's about time to wrap this up - I know, let's just kill off the main character, that'll do." I was very disappointed. I tried the next story and found it to be even more disappointing and so I stopped reading the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Maybe just a little too much hyperbole
This is actually the original novel (170 pages) and some additional short stories written over the next thirty five years (the last in 1989).

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Enough
Teresa Medeiros is a wonderful writer, so even at her "not so great" she writes a good story. This tale wasn't as entertaining as After Midnight, but it was nice to see the characters of her first book play a role in this sequel.Julian's character was still rakish and desirable, and Portia was still sweet and driven. The love affair was semi-believable, but it lacked a depth that Ms. Medeiros often puts into her romances. The Vampire Who Loved Me is a light and easy read and enjoyable enough to pass a few hours with.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dull!
A predictable story. A good book to read if you have no other vampire novels at hand.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disapointing follow-up to After Midnight
The Vampire that Loved Me is the sequel to After Midnight. It covers the story of Julian and Portia and takes place about 5 years after the events in After Midnight.Considering that it was 13 months between the release of AM and VLM, I guess I was expecting something a little more. While it is written well, the plot and characters just are not that engaging.Normally, I say more about the plot and characters in reviews (esp. a bit more than what the back cover says), but this book is so shallow that I think if I do, it will be nothing more than an spoiler for those that might read it.It is riddled with high and low points, mostly low.Medeiros seems to be attempting a gothic romance. If I were to sum this book up in one word, it would be "sappy" or maybe "cheesy".Where the first one was likable, there isn't much to redeem this one other than to say it doesn't take long to read. It's definitely a popcorn book.I kept the first one and now have to decide if I keep this one because I kept the first. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars She does it again
This was the book my husband & I listened to on audio book on the way to Bouchercon. We ended up playing the rest of it in our hotel room on the computer because we couldn't wait for the return trip to hear the rest.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sookie Grabs The Tiger
Sookie Stackhouse hasn't exactly been in relationship heaven lately. Her romance will Bill the Vampire is over. And Eric, the local head Vampire can' t get it through his head that a short fling is not love forever. And Alcide Hervaux, once the werewolf of her dreams was now dating someone else.So when Quinn the weretiger showed up and talked her into a date Sookie was glad of the opportunity. But Quinn and Sookie's date is interrupted by a surprise attack by rogue werewolves, and that just begins the trouble that's coming.
3-0 out of 5 stars I miss Bill--spoilers ahead!!
Ok, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like Bill.I've been hoping that Sookie and Bill would get back together, but after this book it's pretty clear that that's not happening.I do like Quinn, but not as much as Bill.As I said, I think I'm in the minority. As for the book it was ok.To me the first two were fabulous, but after that the series took a turn for the worse.Let's hope Sookie sticks with Quinn for more than a couple of pages. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my hopes and expectations!
After reading the first tale in this series in the anthology 'Playing Easy to Get', I greatly looked forward to reading this story and I was not disappointed.
5-0 out of 5 stars All I can say is "YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY"!
Lachlain should be cloned! This book is definitely a page turner...I had finals to study for and I couldn't put it down! Yes, I was that addicted!!! Lach is a little angry and tends towards the whole He-Man thing but other than that, he's romantic to the core. I suppose if you're overly feminist, you might have a problem with this book but I certainly didn't!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great New Paranormal
I bought the antholgy Playing Easy To Get for Kenyon's story, was pleasing surprised by Cole. Couldn't wait for A Hunger like No Other. The book was wonderfull.I can't under stand why a previous reviewer cringed at the dialog. Must not have read any period historicals. Cole obviously did not have the same freedom for creativity for her historicals. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Series Continues
Fires are killing Vampires all over the city which coincides with the Vampire Council coming to the city.Anita and Jean Claude have to deal with the Vampire Council and figure out who is starting the fires.I didn't care for all the political bull but otherwise a great book. Anita is having to deal with Richard again and she's sort of in control of the wereleopards now which was very interesting. There are just so many things going on in this book. All I can say is that once you start the series you just can't help being sucked in and find out what happens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Burnt But Tastey!
So, Anita's minding her own business just trying to come to grips with dating Master of the city, vampire Jean-Claude. You get a delightful sense of what they might be like as a couple without any one else's intervention. And then, ofcourse, they have a problem. The Council, governing powerhouse of all vamp kind, is still having problems with their story of how the council memeber known as the Earthmover died by their hand in book three, Circus of the Damned. They have come to put Jean-Claude and Anita threw some scary tricks to figure out if Jean-Claude really has designs on their power.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just Adored This Book
This is the book where you start to see Anita's power's emerge. Anita and Jean claude are both powerful and strong, together their better than ever. I hope there will always be something between them, their an exciting couple. I read guilty pleasures an up and loved each one. Laurell K. Hamilton pulls you in as a writer so that you can't wait to read whats next.

5-0 out of 5 stars undead is popular
Funny, Funny and Funny..these are the best, funniest and most exciting romances I've read in a while. The vampire theme is working and in a good way Queen Betsy is the Bomb and so is Sinclair...

3-0 out of 5 stars Reads like teen fiction
Ok, let me start off by saying that I LOVED the first three or four books. But this last two (including this one) were very disappointing. It usually takes me about four hours to read the average novel - I read this book in TWO HOURS.With the exception of the sexual content, it reads like teen fiction. The storyline is VERY simple, there is very little depth to the storyline.I pre-ordered this book because I was so looking forward to it and was so disappointed. I think I'll check the next book out of the library.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good thing I got it at the library
Okay, I'm a huge MJD fan, but. . .

Editorial Review

Anita Blake may be small and young, but vampires call her the Executioner. Anita is a necromancer and vampire hunter in a time when vampires are protected by law--as long as they don't get too nasty. Now someone's killing innocent vampires and Anita agrees--with a bit of vampiric arm-twisting--to help figure out who and why. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome, Anita, welcome!
Anita meets one character. This foreshadows.Anita meets a bunch of characters, who seem insignificant for the most part. They're not.Anita, again, meets more characters--some who seem vital, some who seem insignificant.Nope, every last one of them plays a role in the story.
4-0 out of 5 stars 3.5 STARS...DECENT VAMP NOVEL, BUT I'VE READ BETTER.......
Anita Blake, aka The Executioner, is really a necromancer by profession (she raises the dead) who has a serious side hustle going on--she hunts and kills renegade vampires. The success of her parttime gig has her being sought out by Nikolaos, a 1,000 year old vampire housed in the body of a 10-year-old girl.Nikolaos wants to know who is murdering her brethren; there is a murderer on the loose leaving vampires in his wake.Nikolaos has made it very clear to Anita that she expects her to find those responsible...and that her very life may depend on it.And to add to all of the confusion, the city's second most powerful vamp, Jean-Claude, has his eye on Anita....in a very compelling way.Bizarre tale full of shapeshifters, zombies and vamps right alongside normal human beings who see nothing extraordinary in the business of it all.Interesting tale, but a little overwhelming for my taste...just too much going on.
5-0 out of 5 stars Warning: Totally addictive
I have always loved vampire stories and am a big fan of Anne Rice's vampire series (well, the earlier novels).Having read some rave reviews about Laurell K. Hamilton, I decided to finally join the club and start reading.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money!
Hamilton should work all this out on the shrink's couch, and in the meantime we should spend our book money on somebody else.No excuse for anything she's written in this series since Obsidian Butterfly.

2-0 out of 5 stars Long Short Story
The title of my review pretty much sums this book up.I read it in three hours and I'm not really a very fast reader.I find it interesting that after all this time, Anita hasn't spent any time alone with Micah until this book. Also she really doesn't know anything about him either. We know she's been living with him but I guess she was to busy with sex and his "huge maleness" (major plot point for this story) to get to know him.I wonder if the FBI guy didn't happen to know Micah (already a stretch) if he and Anita would have ever had a real conversation about life or his past.
1-0 out of 5 stars Micah was a pale contender to previous Anita books
Micah was a pale contender to previous Anita books- There was very little action...outside of the bedroom anyway..

4-0 out of 5 stars What woman would not like to be her?
I found the book interesting because of the ongoing internal conflict of Anita. It is nice to find a vampire novel in which the main character is not the vampire but the adjacent. The outside view this gives makes us mortals understand, somewhat, internal organization in this society.
1-0 out of 5 stars The real title should be "Anita becomes a Ho"
This book is so bad, I hardly know where to start. Anita has become a whiney, bratty, difficult slut who has sex with anyone due to the 'ardeur' that Hamilton has conveniently come up with. All I kept thinking asI read this book was that it was nothing more than a laundry list of the author's sexual fantasies.Sex with a stranger, sex with multiple men, sex in public, sex with an animal, etc. It's too much and it is COMPLETELY unbelievable that a character who started out chaste and uptight about sex could do such a complete reversal without a lobotomy.
3-0 out of 5 stars Formulaic, series running out of steam
Unfortunately, the Anita Bryant series are being written using a predictable formula:Super scary uber monster comes to town, threatens Anita and her monster family.Anita has gratuitous sex.Anita insults uber monster.Anita has sex.Anita kills something.Anita has sex.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crime scenes, vampires and zombies. Just another day for Anita Blake!
The second book in the Anita Blake series is where things really come together. I loved the first book "Guilty Pleasures" and thought there was huge potential for things to come, particularly with the character Anita herself. But I did come away with a whole bunch of questions and hoped that Laurell Hamilton wasn't just writing fictional action with no desire for explanation or history that would take this series to another league altogether.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bigger and better!
In the second book to Laurell K. Hamilton's fabulous vampire series, Anita Blake is once again as* deep in alligators. This time around, she earns the ire of a very powerful voodoo priestess, Dominica Salvador, when Anita refuses her offer of partnership. To top it all up, a wealthy old man is offering her big bucks to raise a three-hundred-year-old zombie. Knowing that such case may require a human sacrifice, she turns down the job much to the anger of Harold Gaynor. And just like the voodoo queen, the old cripple will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
5-0 out of 5 stars "The rush of power was like the memory of painful sex.Part of you wanted to do it again."
Enter the world of Anita Blake, licensed vampire executioner and necromancer of mixed Anglo/Mexican heritage. In this second installment of the series, she is bombarded with mystery, violence, blood and sex. Anita has a talent for the dead which she became aware of at the age of 13 when her dog died--and then showed up a week later curled up in Anita's bed.Her Mexican grandmother was a voudun practitioner and was able to teach Anita to control her ability. As an adult, Anita uses her power over the dead as a business to help people who have unfinished business with the dead.

3-0 out of 5 stars Typical MJD
I agree with the other reviewer who said not to read all four of the short stories in DEAD AND LOVING IT all at once.Read back-to-back, although a quick read, the stories are all extremely similar--there are even phrases in the stories that have been used, word for word, in the one that came before it.
5-0 out of 5 stars the undead are funny
All the stories were so funny and extremely sexy at the same time. I would recommended her undead books and her werewolf books to any one who is looking for entertainment. I couldn't put the books down.

2-0 out of 5 stars What a waste of money....
At least Davidson in her other books attempted a storyline and plot. In this book she just unleases her inner potty mouth and fills the pages with clit references and throbbing members. I'm wondering if she just isn't awfully horny because she didn't even try to disguise these stories as anything more than Playgirl meets Harliquin Romance. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking but belaboured
I would certainly recommend anyone who has an interest in this genre to read these books. Rice raises some very interesting concepts from the mind of the vampire. My only gripe (and a friend feels the same way) is that Rice tends to ramble - padding out relatively meaningless stuff, or stuff that you've already gleaned the concept of after two lines. I found myself skipping paragraphs & pages, which was detrimental to the flow. With some judicious editing and condensing they would be worthy of 5 stars. The fourth book doesn't quite hold up to the stds set with the first three...might be worth finding the trilogy.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good but murky reading, check out the other Rice (JEFF)
I suspect I'd like this series better if it didn't go on and on as it does. Much like Jean Auel's Alya series it's wonderful at times but someday, sometime - get to the point!
5-0 out of 5 stars Always an Anne Rice fan
I first heard of Anne Rice 11 years ago when her famous book was being released as a motion picture, Interview with the Vampire, of course.I was only 9 years old at the time, but I was already enthralled in the world of vampires, and I had to see the movie. My brother and I saw it 4 or 5 times in theatre alone, and ever since then I have been an Anne Rice fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the price if only for Wroth...
I purchased this collection because I am a HUGE fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon and I had read some of her other BAD(Bureau of American Defense) stories and I thought this would be a fun read.
3-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for K. Cole's story alone
I gave the whole book 3 stars because the only story that is any good and worth reading at all is Kresley Cole's. 5 stars for her. The other 2 stories were boring and made me regret buying the book, but at least K. Cole ends it with her entertaining love story of Wroth and Myst, a kind of prequil to her book A Hunger Like No Other. Get the book and skip the 1st 2 stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars New TalentKresleyCole
I bought the book for Kenyon. Her story was a dud. I have read Jaid Black's viking series. This was acceptible. I had tried to read a previuos historical by Cole and didn't like. I don't usaully read the off authors. I read cole and was pleasnatly surpised. Coles story saved this anthology. Thus the 5 stars. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Still Memorable...
Say what you will about where the Anita Blake storyline is going, but this was still a memorable book. I read this for the first time a year and a half ago and still remembered the suspense, the evil baddy, the shootout, and the new characters. Yes, there are parts of the book that I had some qualms about(we'll get to that)but as an overall story, I still enjoyed it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Agreat Bookby Laurell KHamilton
Laurell K Hamilton, writes greatbooks. Her books are inpossible to putdown becausetheymake youwant to readthe book until theveryend ofit. This book is from theAnitaBlake seriesin whichAnita battlesvampires and other evil beings that want to getrid of her. Although some of herVampire books are spooky, they alwaysmake the readerwonder what will happen next, but in order to find out you have to read the next book in the series.
5-0 out of 5 stars ....I loved it.
I always seem to have a different opinion from the majority, but that's ok. I don't follow the pack like a sheep.
