4-0 out of 5 stars Stripping away the sheen
This book is one of a handful that have appeared in the years since the Montreal Protocol that have addressed the motivations behind those that acted to bring the protocol into being. It questions the simple thesisthat it was simply an attempt to introduce environmental protection for oneof the Earths damaged resources, suggesting instead that the primarymotivation was more economically defined.the primary actors each hadsomething to be gained in seeing a ban on CFC's in favour of their(generally more expensive) alternative. In this regard it presents a massof evidence thatmight come as a surprise to those who believed that thetreaty was a hopeful first step towards international agreements to benefitthe Earth's environment, and it is a surprise that is unlikely to be apleasant one.It does no-one any good to hide from the truth however, andthe volume is thus a worthwhile read, as well as a useful pointer towardsfurther reading around this area. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Entomology
Dr. Pedigo's book is one of the better general entomology/ pest management textbooks that I have read. It is written in an understandable format and provides a good introduction to the structure, function, taxonomy, and applied ecology of insects. This volume is most appropriate for the undergraduate student interested in entomology although it would also be a handy addition to a graduate student's library as well. As with many introductory entomology textbooks, the taxonomic keys are very limited. I would recommend Borror, Triplehorn, and Johnson's: An introduction to the study of insects to anyone who desires a book with a good set of taxonomic keys. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Work
In "Lethal Laws," author Alix Fano does an excellent job presenting the scientific argument against animal testing and how it affects us and the environment. It is an eye-opener filled with facts. Thisbook is thoroughly footnoted, and often times let vivisectors contradictthemselves. This is one of those books showing the opposition biting theirown tongues. "Lethal Laws" can be a reference guide which you canrefer to from time to time. Most notably, it will give you insight into thescience, controversies, and politics relating to animal testing. It is agreat idea to read the book several times because of the need to absorb allof the information. I highly recommend this book for activists andnon-activists alike. This book will be another "Silent Spring."

5-0 out of 5 stars A book every American should read
If you've ever wondered why the public health system in this country is a mess, this book will show you. Basically, the burden of proof to demonstrate that a given chemical is harmful is on the victims or the underfunded EPA, who often, for both financial and legal reasons, have to depend on tests and information given by the chemical companies themselves. If that's not the fox guarding the henhouse then I don't know what is.4-0 out of 5 stars informative
McLachlan 1996 paper was retracted and the 1st edition was written prior to the retraction.1-0 out of 5 stars Toxic Deception book simply deceptive
The enthusiasm of your reviewers for Toxic Deception is unwarranted. This volume is far from a reliable guide to the science and politics of environmental health risks. Let one example suffice. Research from Science (7 June,1996) is characterized by the authors in the following manner;"A recent study of the effects of ... pesticides on estrogen-sensitivecells in test tubes, for example, found that the pesticides were 1,000times more potent in combination than individually." 5-0 out of 5 stars This guy really gets it
I consider myself a moderate in social issues and conservative on economic issues. This is a very relevant book. The author really understands how our government, at all levels, occasionally anoints itself with greater power than provided by the Constitution, to the detriment of regular citizens. It seems that this occurs more regularly in the West, where government controlled land abounds and political power falls below that of both coasts. The author, and the Foundation he heads, appear to have both the skills and mindset to stand up to the government and champion the rights of the rest of us.Good for them.Read and learn, and spread the word.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Heart of America
This is a book that goes to the heart of the struggle for America as the founding fathers envisioned it.This book attacks the lies that radical left wing groups have been using for over a generation to scare the American people into inaction. This book shows us the real story behind the hype and media attention on environmental policy, affirmative action and public use.Mountain States Legal Foundation is the voice of the silent majority in America today.

5-0 out of 5 stars a true western warrior
A thought provoking and revealing study on some of most significant and successful legal challenges to the Federal Government's ever-expanding reach into the lives and land uses of those uniquely American Westerner.
