5-0 out of 5 stars An Incredibly Informative and Thought Provoking Read
This book is a must read for anyone even remotely interested in the field of prosecution, and even law for that matter. The author, a professor at Boston College, is able to fit an astounding amount of information in a fairly small space and it is not a tedious read as many other books that I have read on the subject of prosecutorial ethics. The author must be incredibly intelligent to have been able to write such a book, and once again I highly recommend this book. If you think that this area is even somewhat related to what you need to know, buy it as soon as you can. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great working reference
I had the pleasure of reading this text in Dr. Swenson, Esq.'s course on the subject.Even after receiving my bachelor degree in psychology and becoming and attorney, I still occasionally reach for this book for a practice pointer or two. Were I practicing family law, I suspect I would do this more often.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Dated
The sample questions discussed in the book come from the NCBE's "MPRE Sample Questions V" publication. As of the date of this review, the current NCBE (National Conference of Bar Examiners)publication is "MPRE Sample Questions VI."
4-0 out of 5 stars Useful when used with Emanuel's flash cards
My law school ethics professor wouldn't deign to discuss the MPRE in class, and so one month before the exam I was getting *really* nervous. I got this book and the "Law in a Flash" cards and together it was a winning combination (I got a score more than 25 points above the California required score for passing the MPRE). 2-0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't waste my money.
I thought this book would be much more helpful than it actually turned out to be.The claim that they have answers and explanations to 50 sample questions, while true, is horse hockey. The answers to the sample questions simply reference the appropriate Model Rule.Don't waste your money on this book.Instead, I recommend that you get hold of the two-box set of flash cards (published by Emaunel, I believe) and spend a month or so going through them with a copy of the Model Rules in front of you. That strategy worked well for me and I scored a 120 on the exam, which is high enough to be admitted to any jurisdiction in the U.S.I have friends who waited until they attended the Bar/Bri review course to study and a large number of them didn't score high enough to be admitted in their jurisdiction of choice and will end up taking the exam again. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read for PMO Directors and Sr. Management
Steve's first book (Advanced Project Portfolio Management and the PMO with Gerald Kendall) transformed the perception of a PMO from a project cost management/efficiency cop to a potential profit center, raising the bar for most organizations. He (along with Richard Lanza) has pushed the envelope again making the case for the PMO as the best qualified entity for preventing financial losses to the corporation due to project fraud.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must Reference for Project Management and SOX Compliance
This is a necessary reference for effective project management and Section 404 compliance under Sarbanes-Oxley. The book provideds an abundance of checklists and questions that will make this an ongoing well used reference for ensuring continued corporate governance. The reality of project fraud and its widespread impact is clearly spelled out. Rollins and Lanza accomplished their objective with well stated structures for breaking down the work steps needed to prevent fraud and establish effective internal controls for managing projects. You get your money's worth with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Working Together - Collaborating to Beat Fraud
As a project manager, I was very interested to read this book. The consequences of unchecked fraudulent activity in the public and private sectors does more than affect the "bottom line." It erodes public confidence in the ability of managers to protect the assets assigned to their care.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on legal ethics written...
I fear an earlier reviewer either misunderstood (or just failed to understand) Luban's book, because the logic is far from circular, and the text is one of the best and most thorough treatments of the limits of role morality within the adversarial system.Yes, it's a difficult book, but this is a difficult subject, and the level of nuance and subtlety in Luban's argument demands careful reading. I've taught legal ethics for 15 years, and I have yet to find a book that treats both the legal and philosophical issues as well as Luban's does. I highly recommend this book, either for the philosophically minded lawyer or the legally inclined philosopher.

5-0 out of 5 stars very perceptive
Very interesting read...I have to say I disagree with the previous reviewer.Recommended for anyone with an interest in philosophy of law.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't read it unless you HAVE to.
This guy makes no sense. He's got an impressive vocabulary, but his logic is circular making the book hard to read. (EX. If the dirt is dark and the sky is blue then the snow is white and the dirt is dark because the sky is blue.)I had this book as part of a legal ethics class, and I can really say I didn't learn much in the class from this book.I can't imagine anyone reading this for fun.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What is "truth" in law?
Many of my favorite books in philosophy follow a common pattern: the author will pose a problem or question, canvass its historically and/or presently available resolutions, say straightforwardly what he believes to be lacking in each, and offer a resolution of his own (or the beginning of one) that avoids the difficulties he has identified in the others.4-0 out of 5 stars Everything you wanted to know about legal theory
This book is a fine introduction to the problems of contemporary legal theory organized around a simple question: what makes a proposition of law true?Although a tad cantankerous at times, Patterson provides a thoroughoverview of contemporary approaches to law (realism, interpretivism, etc.)and their limitations before introducting his own theory of law as alinguistic/argumentative practice and applying it to selected legalproblems. The book is thus a good choice for those seeking a one-stopintroduction to contemporary legal theory as well as those interested inthe philosophic debate regarding the nature of truth, etc.It will alsomake you sound a lot better at (sophisticated) cocktail parties. ... This is a fantastic book, and I'm absolutely amazed that it is out of print. McCormack is a lawyer-turned-businessman, who built a business from scratch that placed him on the FORBES 400. So if there's a businessman who knows legal matters enough to help the average businessman, he's it. He gives advice I don't think you'd find anywhere else, and gives it in a very readable and often entertaining form. I can't recommend this book highly enough. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive, Obscure, but Raises Interesting Issues
Read this for a seminar on Freedom and Responsibility. For those with a legal background, it presents little NEW material. The thesis is that the law's treatment of luck, risks, and responsibility (and everything else)stems from a concern about protecting the fair terms of interaction betweenpersons. This focus tends to reject a legal subjectivist account of thelaw that centers on the subject's motives or beliefs in favor of looking atwhich actions a "reasonable person" would take to be fair interms of the security and liberty risks of persons. While not quiteoffering a fresh perspective on legal analysis, the work does bring up manyof the interesting issues and problem areas in the law. ...
