5-0 out of 5 stars transformative reading
Pauline Tesler is able to combine thought-provoking theory with practical process advice. This is an indispensable tool for collaborative practitioners as well as fascinating reading for anyone who is concerned about the emotional and financial toll of traditional divorce.Working with attorneys as problem-solvers, rather than adversarial litigators, is a revolutionary concept whose time has come. This book provides expert guidance for professionals and the public about the collaborative option.I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Collaborative Bible
As an attorney engaged in collaborative practice, I make more use of Pauline Tesler's book than any other practice resource. Beyond explaining the basic collaborative philosophy in clear terms, her book provides the practical, step-by-step tools that a practitioner needs to get through the challenging parts of the process. 5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Resource
Pauline Tesler's book, Collaborative Law, is an outstanding resource for attorneys interested in transforming the litigious divorce process into a client-oriented, principled, and efficient way to solve the problems associated with ending a marital relationship. It not only explains the principles of collaborative family law but provides substantial guidance in making the paradigm shift to this innovative approach and comes with a disk with a core collection of forms needed to get started as a collaborative lawyer. As a family law attorney for over 27 years and a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers I found this book to be invaluable. Nonlawyers will also find this book helpful in finding a better way to divorce. Collaborative family law is growing throughout the U.S. and Canada--and Pauline Tesler has played a leading role in this through her lectures and this fine book. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars NEVER GOT THIS ITEM
And Was never refunded for the purchase price of this book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars No better guide to today's health news
Health news today is increasingly dominated by legal issues - pharmaceutical torts, end of life lawsuits, Medicare and Medicaid reform efforts, etc. This book will educate you to the level of expert - feel disdain at the idiots discussing tort reform!Laugh at ignorant talking heads who seek to sway you with their flash-card analysis!Seriously though, this one volume will teach you more than a lifetime of Linda Greenhouse columns.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent & Comprehensive!
This text is indispensible and required reading for anyone interested inhealth law.The book gives an in-depth overview of issues and problemsthat currently exist in this interesting area of law.As a law student, this book was very useful in providing concise portrayals of issues facingthe health industry from all angles, not just legal perspectives.I wouldalso suggest this book to anyone who wants to get their feet wet in healthlaw. It is a bit advanced, so if one is just starting out, the languagemay be confusing and require a dictionary. Otherwise, it is highlyrecommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars practical advice
I found this book very helpful and readable in the two months after I discovered my wife's affair. The author writed very specifically to a female audience, but asserts (and I agree) that most of the advice is applicable to spouses of either gender.Harvey goes a long way to breaking paralysis and offering something to the agonizing "what do I do?".
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, practical advice
A few months ago my wife told me about her affair and desire to leave.Since that time, I've read a number of books telling me how to save my marriage and survive infidelity, even if my wife didn't want to stay married.I tried all sorts of things to keep our marriage together, some of them "guaranteed" to work.
5-0 out of 5 stars You must have this book
I read this book within a week after my wife left me, and it helped me tremendously. Donald Harvey maybe oversimplifies things, but when you are going through the crisis, you want to know why this is happening and what to do. Not all of the "why" questions will ever be answered, but this book helped me make some sense of what was going on, why a spouse leaves and what to do and how to do it. Most of the time if someone leaves a marriage it is the husband and just to make it easier to read he refers to the spouse that has left as "he" or the "husband".

5-0 out of 5 stars best of its kind
This book is the best of its kind in describing the new terrain covered by the intersection of modern medicine and complementary therapies from a variety of traditions. It should be on the bookshelf of every doc and every CAM provider.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Compact and lively analysis ... comprehensive."
Review from the Integrative Medicine Consult: In this compact and lively analysis, Michael Cohen sums up the history and current status of the legal underpinnings of complementary and alternative medicinevis-a-vis conventional medicine. His language is moderate, falling intoneither the caricature of the strident establishment nor the dreadedflowerchild-like New Age interlopers. Cohen covers the areas of regulation, scope of practice, informed consent and malpractice, and describes some ofthe more widespread alternative providers and treatment. A comprehensivenotes section gives the inquisitive reader an in-depth resource of casestudies and related literature. Cohen argues that the challenge to thecourt system is to regulate providers of medicine and healing treatments, protecting patients from unscrupulous practitioners, and yet giving enoughleeway to preserve an individual's freedom of choice. Laws and regulatorybodies governing medicine in the United States are geared to the reigningbiomedical model, which views the human body as an elaborate machine thatoperates with many distinct functioning parts. Alternative medicine adoptsa broader definition of disease, one that is more holistic. Rules now inplace tend to favor conventional medicine and punish other healingpractices. Cohen describes what he understands as the inevitable bias ofthe law toward biomedicine: these laws and this view of medicine evolvedtogether. Slowly the laws are changing in response to the integration of anew medical paradigm. But it will be some time, Cohen points out, beforethe legal structure can fully adjust, expand the definitions to encompassother forms of healing, and still safeguard the patient population. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars From the horses mouth.
You can find some help-full suggestions in this self-serving book by a California judge, with contributions from a custody evaluator. But, you will have to look hard for something new and there are much better books listed on Amazon.

I am very familiar with the courts in Santa Clara County (CA), having myself been caught up in a nasty custody battle (and other attendant battles) for 18 years.
3-0 out of 5 stars California Custody Book
Judge Stewart does a good job of getting you started in the California court system (where I fought my first battle). The primary information is about parent's rights. Standard information such as a glossary and topics like child abuse, false molestation and how to select a lawyer are included. Worth the $12.00. ... Read more

I am in favor of gay marriage. However, the cause is not advanced by methodological confusion. As I understand the matter, Scandinavian countries do not have gay marriage, but a version of domestic partnership, which is less sweeping.Gay marriage exists in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Canada. Why not study those countries? ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Nolo's Guide to Social Security Disability
Not at all helpful if you are filling out an application for SSDI benefits.More than 3/4 of the book is on the appeal process and social security system jargon. You can tell it is written by a lawyer, its worthless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nolo's Guide to Social Security Disability by Iii MD et al.
This book is invaluable for anyone contemplating a disability claim or for anyone seeking to preserve benefits. The authors explain the elements of a claim; namely the severity of an impairment and its impact on the ability to function in a work environment or setting. The MINE claims are predefined by the law. These are "Medical Improvement Not Expected". i.e. a number of debilitating arthritic diseases or diseases of the musculo-skeletal system
5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference book overall
