I hated it
My department changed the reading material for a promotional exam from Callibre Press to this junk.I was forced to read and internalize it;I hated it.This book is intollerable from the front cover. Take a look at the guy in the graphic.He is holding a flashlight in his gun hand; nuf said?

Very basic, good book
I had to read this book for apromotional examination and found it to be a good refresher of the very basic points that we all learned at the beginning of our police careers.When I am approached by someone who is not yet in police work and wants to read a good, simply written and understandable book on law enforcement, I always recommend this one.It may seem to be too basic for those of us in this field for the years I have served, but many areas are still very relevant.

Police Field Operations
Too vague and general for someone using the book to use as a reference. Does not go into a lot of key points you actually use on patrol. Also, tends to make remarks that do not reflect the reality of todays policework. The author seems out of touch with policing today. ... Read more

Very good
This book was very good. Dressler's classic "Understanding Criminal Law" has a more thorough (and probably better) explanation of the law. However, the Examples in this book are very helpful and as a result this book rivals Dressler's.

Waste of time
All of the E&E books I've read, including this one, are disappointing. They might be good if you haven't been attending class and need to learn the material for the first time. But I'm not sure why you would waste time on these vague materials if you have kept up in class. I recommend a more advanced study guide. Also, the Q&As at the end of the chapters are too verbose. Most of the answers are pages long, when they should be at most a few paragraphs, if not a few sentences.

Almost Useless
Unlike most other Examples & Explanations Series, this one is one of the worst I have read.Authors waste too much time on history of criminal law and MPC, and very little time explaining the law.Common law and MPC are not distinguished and characterized well, and no clear conclusions of law are given.The example are very plane, without exploring the variety and complexity of real-life problems.Unbelievably, only 35 pages are spent on homicide, the most common and complex problem in criminal law, and the examples and explanations for homicide are terrible. ... Don't Visit Your Attorney without Being Informed
As an estate planner and attorney, I know that presenting this kind of information in an easy-to-grasp way isn't, well . . .easy. But Michael Palermo has done it. In Crash Course in Estate Planning, he explains everything from wills to planning for children to protecting your investment interests. The fact that the AARP endorses The Essential Guide is a great indication of the value of the information.The "Hints" and "Warnings" that Michael gives throughout the book could only have come from a real life practicing estate attorney who has faced these problems with clients many times.In addition to having an estate planning practice, Michael is also a Certified Financial Planner and the combination of wisdom garnered from his financial background and legal background serves his readers well. Michael knows which issues take a little more effort to understand, and he provides more detail accordingly. This is a great book for anyone who is preparing to tackle the estate planning process. Palermo provides clear and direct answers to very difficult questions. I highly recommend his book. Be advised though, if you read the book you may, at least in some areas, find you know more than your attorney!
This book is outdated.
It is difficult to understand how this book got the endorsement of AARP.It has only had three reviews and the last one was in October of 2005.Being published in 2004 puts the information behind the times, especially if you live in California.As the author of the book "Everything A Baby Boomer Should Know," published only weeks ago, I think AARP should reevaluate what it recommends to us Baby Boomers as a reliable resource to educate our need to know how the system works.

The best advice
This is not a "how to" book.It is an exhaustive discussion of all of the options people have in planning their estates.This includes what can go wrong and how to avoid these problems.

Nice supplement...
I am taking a federal income tax course that uses a textbook which consists mainly of court cases.. and written in hard-to-understand "judicial language". We discuss the cases and go over the problem-solving questions at such a fast pace that sometimes I just blindly jot down notes and try to make sense of them afterwards.
A must for a policy-heavy law school tax class
Clear and concise, helpful explanations. Great for a general tax course. If you are using the ..., Bankman, et al textbook, this is is MUST. If you are studying business tax (unless home/small business), this is not the book for you. Griffith rocks!!!

Tax
This book is helpful in regards to giving you a general overview of the material.However, I purchased this book to better understand annuities, discharge of indebtedness and section 1031 of the tax code.These were the topics that the authors did a horrible job of explaining.Unfortunately, these topics are very important.I have only read up to the start of chapter 3 in this book and I am worried that further reading will only further confuse me.

Black's Law Dictionary
As a corporate lawyerLiving in Mexico City Amazon is a fantastic tool which gives me access to many books I would otherwise find impossible to get. The speed is quite amazing too!

Nice Look; Very Useful
I bought this dictionary along with the pocket version for school.Although I do agree with the prior rating that the cover could be slightly nicer, I am happy with my purchase. My cover has not scratched nor bent.I find the tabs very helpful.
Not all that deluxe
I have to preface my review with a caveat: Black's is indispensible and if you're reading this, you need it.Also, I haven't looked through it extensively and so don't purport to rate this edition over the last one, just this deluxe version.

I am 50 years old and until my accident I have never had a wreck.I bought this book on Amazon.com about a year ago and followed it religiously to settle my claim.It worked.Thought I'd share this with others.
I'm so grateful to have this book
I just finished reading this book which my mother got me for Christmas.I had an accident a few weeks ago and was beside myself with worry over it.I didn't get hurt badly but my neck and back hurt a lot the next morning.My car wasn't so fortunate, though.

Great way to jump start your MBE study

Finz is a very good presenter
I used this review for the bar exam and found it to be very helpful.Finz is both entertaining and concise.This set is thorough and I would recommend it for law school or the bar or even for professionals just looking for 'nutshell' encapsulation of the subject of Torts.This one compares favorably to the many other Sum and Substance CDs as well as other sets I've listened to.

A great break from reading torts
Finz has an interesting accent and he does sing a few times, but this cd set is a great way to refresh after lecture or after reading the text.From intentional torts to strict liability to products liability, Finz covers it all and he uses examples to illustrate his point -very useful.I would give it 5 stars, but he is somewhat annoying.I'll never be able to get "fun trucking, fun truckiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg" out of my head.Buy the set and find out what I'm talking about.
