Useful text and reference
I use this book as the textbook in an Intro to Law for Paralegals class that I teach.The books is incredibly well-organized and useful.There are very few typos, and additionally it contains great references at the end of each chapter.While I think the book is designed for the classroom setting, it can also be used for self-teaching as well. Even after the class is over students can use the book as a reference guide.

One of my favorite study aids
I love these Examples & Explanations books.The rules make sense when you can get decent examples, and these books do a good job of that.
Great book
Great book. Definitely doesn't cover every area of Torts that you're going to need to know for your course (IIED, false imprisonment, etc.). Get Gilberts or Emanuels or just use your class notes on this stuff though. Also: if your professor has a slightly different view on the rules (even if it's just a difference in semantics) use your prof's rules when working the Examples. Writing out your answers to the Examples throughout the semester will solidify your knowledge and you won't have to struggle to memorize the elements of each rule at the end of the semester.

BE CAREFUL WHICH EDITION YOU BUY!
The book is great as it is, no doubt, but the older editions do not have Products Liability in them, which is VITAL to your studies. Make sure you get the latest edition, which has two chapters on PL.

good but a little overrated - should be 3 and 1/2 stars
Okay, at one time (in earlier editions) this was a great book, but it has become outdated.It is still good, but it is not the best.I gave it 4 stars, but I would really have given it a 3.5 if that had been an option.
Good book, but a little dated and choppy
I bought this book before starting up my new law practice because it's one of really only two good books on opening a law office, and this one seemed to have the most praise.
It was all that I expected it to be.
The book arrived on time, infact a day earlier than I anticipated. It was in excellent shape, cover crisp and shiny and didn't seem like it had been used at all. Surprisingly, it was delivered right outside my apartment door. I have purchased other books through amazon before, but none were personally delivered to me.Out of all the purchases through amazon, this exceeds all in quality for my money and efficiency in delivery. ... Not Mac Friendly
While I find the contents of the book sufficient, I am peeved that no mention was made of the CD being Windows only. I specifically purchased this book over some other choices, because I thought the CD would be a valuable supplement. If you don't have access to Windows or were planning to study on a Macintosh or Unix box, then save the additional cost and do not buy this book as it is available for less without the CD.
Good Strategy book
This book does a great job of presenting sound strategies for tackling the different kinds of LSAT questions. If you're disciplined, you can probably prep on your own with this book instead of paying for the entire Kaplan course.

This got me through my evidence exam
Very good book on the subject, the best I've encountered in regards to Evidence and the FRE.I scored very well on my exam, despite slacking throughout the semester and skipping most of the readings.This book made the difference for me, and for a few of my friends who also got copies before our test.

not worth it
There are many better books out there that are easier to follow and comprehend if you are not a law student.Not impressive.

For the benefit of all the people who cannot take her course, Prof. Connie Bagley has written this book that has the same title as her course (sheteaches a quarter each at the Stanford and Harvard Business Schools). It isan extremely very well thought out and well written book. Throughout thebook Prof. Bagley has kept in mind the reader's background and organizedand written content in a way that will be of maximum benefit to thereader. Not for the solo lawyer; not about marketing, except for the author
I was disappointed by this book.I am a solo litigation attorney, and I read the book to get ideas on marketing.It gave me some ideas.Perhaps the most valuable idea was to focus more on customer service; Dahut has an interesting discussion about exactly what that means and how we can do it better.By and large, however, this is a book by and for big firm attorneys.It is about big firm angst and how it can be combated by hiring experts such as Dahut to do extensive consulting work for your firm.Dahut does not acknowledge, and does not care, that most attorneys are solos or work in small firms, and that we have very different issues than agonizing over whether we have lost our soul by conforming to much to dead firm culture.

Strong ideas - useful and inspiring
This work is really true to its theme - it offers new perspectives on how to see business development and because of this new perspective, it makes the process very managable. I stongly recommend this book to anyone who is really serious about growing their practice.

west's paralegal
The book is very informative and easy to read although the authors describe old laws/rules in great detail, only to find out that the law has changed and everything that you read is void.Of course they describe the revisions but I found the old information a waste of my time and also annoying.

It's pretty bad
This book isn't completely useless, though it's pretty close.I'd say that a couple of the Logical Reasonig chapters are useful, but that's about it.The games section is completely useless (get the Powerscore Logic Games Bible).
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK - COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME
I have to say I am very disappointed and I may actually take Kaplan up on thier 100% money back policy.I purchased the Kaplan LSAT, Kaplan 180, Powerscore Logic Games Bible, Powerscore Logic Reasoning Bible and started with the Kaplan LSAT.How unfortunate, as Powerscore uses methods 100% more effective, in addition to using real LSAT examples.
NOT real LSAT questions = NOT worth the money
When I started studying for the LSAT I didn't fully understand the importance of studying with REAL LSAT questions. I purchased the basic Kaplan LSAT book + Kaplan 180. the basic Kaplan book was a COMPLETE waste of money, and the Kaplan 180 was little better. The questions just aren't from actual LSATs, and they simply aren't the same. Furthermore, the books were riddled with typos. If I could do it all over again in a more cost effective manner here is what I would get, respectively:

This book contained a few moderately useful lists, but for the most part contained little of particular value.It is too superficial to be of much use to a large firm merger, and bears little relevancy to the needs of a small firm merger.The most useful part of the book is not the book itself, but the accompanying forms disk, which can help provide a little structure to your thinking when evaluating and planning a law firm merger.

Too short and superficial
Too short and over priced.I bought this book in March 2005 for the list price, now that the price is reduced, it might be a better deal.Still expensive for a paperback of only 208 pages, almost half checklists and exhibits.It is authored by Hildebrandt International, which provides consulting advice to merging law firms.I felt I was reading a promotional brochure for the consulting service.There is some useful insight but at a common-sense level, not so much that is penetrating insight.Obscure topic, so if you want information you might have limited choices, hence my purchase.Another book (not purchased by this reviewer) Law Firm Mergers : Taking a Strategic Approach is also by Hildebrandt; why do they have two books on the same topic? ... Great learning tool
I bought this book for a legal assistant class and I enjoyed it.I learned a lot.It's hard to learn computers from a book - but not this one.The book comes with software and has tutorials and exercises that accompany the software.My class also liked the fact that there are tons of practical applications for how computers are actually used by practicing paralegals and legal secretaries in the book.Also, when it comes to litigation support -one of the most difficult legal computer applications to master - it was fantastic.It comes with three different litigation support programs, including Summation.Summation is fairly involved to learn and the book, tutorials, exercises and software did a good job of teaching this to me.I am confident now in my ability to do basic litigation support.The chapter on using the Internet to do legal and factual research was also excellent.

I would definately buy this again!
This book is essential for anyone working in a law office.Computers are used in nearly every aspect of working in a law firm.The book is huge - nearly 700 pages - and it covers every main type of program used in a law office.It comes with software, and lots of exercises and I thought it was very easy to read and straight forward.It covers hard topics like litigation support and Access databases in a way that I could understand without totally going over my head.The book covers both entry level and advanced topics.For example in the word processing chapter the Word tutorial had 7 lessons that got progressively more difficult, starting with basic word processing and ending with mail merges and creating tables of authorities.

Highly Recommended
I think this is a fabulous book.It comes with demonstration versions of 5 legal software programs including three litigation support programs, a time and billing program and a case management program.There were a number of in-depth, hands-on exercises for each program, so I really got to learn about each type of program by using it.Also, although I have used Access, Word, Excel and Powerpoint before, I liked the fact that there were in-depth exercises for learning legal applications for each of these programs.This is a very practical book. ... Elegant as silk, sharp as a scalpel
Kenji Yoshino's book manages a difficult feat: it is simultaneously elegant and hard-hitting. Yoshino, a professor at Yale Law School, blends memoir and legal history as he charts the changing attitude of American society toward homosexuality. Formerly, gays were treated as if they had a deadly disease--if they were not willing to change, forcible means such as lobotomy and electroshock therapy were at hand to "convert" them. Next, they were left alone as long as they were willing to hide their sexuality. The riots of Stonewall and the AIDS plague were watersheds in changing this attitude, as gay men and women demanded to be recognized as such AND treated as human beings.
Insightful and much needed
Yoshino is one of the brightest stars in civil rights discussion. I found his book insightful and even necessary for any real progress to be made for civil rights for all people.

What a career!
I found the personal coming out to his parents story very moving; it brought tears to my eyes.I also loved the epilogue and the story of the blue star.But, in between, what a lot of navel-gazing and counting of angels on the head of a pin.I'm a lawyer, but I admit I got lost in all the differentiations and attempts to focus the covering/reverse-covering analysis on each type of discrimination.Then, halfway-through, I learn he was only in law school in the 1990s.I've been practicing longer than that and he's the Harvard professor!(I realize that's a comment on me.)This guy has really carved out a self-referential niche for himself. ...
