Fantastic book - Recommended for anyone serious about good grades
I read this book right after trying to apply IRAC to my first midterm and doing horribly. After reading the first 50 pages I knew exactly what I did wrong and how I could have handled the question differently. I recommend also doing LEEWS as both methods are similar in that they teach you how to answer legal questions from both sides and arrive at a thoughtful response

Excellent book
I bought this book prior to beginning law school on the advice of the summer reading list.Although I haven't gotten through even my first semester, already what I have read has really made things in class seem clearer and I feel much more confident for the exam.I wholly recommend it.

This got me through my evidence exam
Very good book on the subject, the best I've encountered in regards to Evidence and the FRE.I scored very well on my exam, despite slacking throughout the semester and skipping most of the readings.This book made the difference for me, and for a few of my friends who also got copies before our test.

WOW!
This book is truly indispensable.I looked at MANY different books, and this is BY FAR THE BEST.If you are even thinking about going to law school, this is a MUST HAVE.Very cheap, easy (actually fun) to read, and packed with useful, practical information.

It is a very good guide for anyone, intresting in applying to Law school.

Very Helpful
I really liked the no-nonsense advice in this book. Anna Ivey gives you straight up advice on how to get into your safety schools and how to tip the scales in your favor on the schools where you have a 50-50 chance of yes or no. There are some good sample essays in the back of the book that are helpful in crafting your own statement, as well as some bad ones that show you what to avoid. Helpful section on financial aid. If you only buy one book regarding the law school admissions process, The Ivey Guide should be regarded as a great primer to answer all of your questions (whether you are a recent grad or an older returning student, the over represented majority or a URM.) ... Great way to jump start your MBE study
This book provides a strategic way to take MBE questions with an intro of what topics are tested within each subject and then an exam tactics section of what to look for in the questions.Then there are detailed answers for each question so you can look to see why the wrong answers are not correct.I would recommend this to anyone preparing for the Bar Exam, my bar study professor recommended to begin using this book our last semester of school before we actually began heavily studying for the exam, it was good advice! ... It's pretty bad
This book isn't completely useless, though it's pretty close.I'd say that a couple of the Logical Reasonig chapters are useful, but that's about it.The games section is completely useless (get the Powerscore Logic Games Bible).
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK - COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME
I have to say I am very disappointed and I may actually take Kaplan up on thier 100% money back policy.I purchased the Kaplan LSAT, Kaplan 180, Powerscore Logic Games Bible, Powerscore Logic Reasoning Bible and started with the Kaplan LSAT.How unfortunate, as Powerscore uses methods 100% more effective, in addition to using real LSAT examples.
NOT real LSAT questions = NOT worth the money
When I started studying for the LSAT I didn't fully understand the importance of studying with REAL LSAT questions. I purchased the basic Kaplan LSAT book + Kaplan 180. the basic Kaplan book was a COMPLETE waste of money, and the Kaplan 180 was little better. The questions just aren't from actual LSATs, and they simply aren't the same. Furthermore, the books were riddled with typos. If I could do it all over again in a more cost effective manner here is what I would get, respectively:

Current law student
I was not very impressed with this book.This is even more true as I continue my legal education.The advice for those thinking of going to law school seemed like common sense.Some of the 1L information was good but a lot does not really apply unless you are going to a school similar to those the 'mentors' attended.Other items that they say will help you get ahead just seem like shortcuts that will probably burn you in the long run.
Beacon in the darkness
Law School Confidential is a must read for anyone considering law school.It's very helpful when you get there, too. The book is a beacon in the darkness of the first days of class. I consult it on a regular basis.

Good for Basic Information, But Not Advice
This book is a great reference guide to general information about each law school.The information in the book may be available on each school's website or elsewhere on the web, but this book saves time by bringing the data together and presenting it in an organized way, which is especially useful when comparing various law schools.

One of those style books that ranscebds its genre.
I'm a lawyer who is considered a wordsmith by colleagues and judges.This is one of the most important books I've ever encountered.I was exposed to it in my first law school year's writing class, and its lessons have remained with me since.Banish the passive voice! (unless deliberately and thoughfully chosen and used).This is not merely a key to fluidity in writing, but in a sense a moral imperative.Actions are attributable to actors - they don't simply occur.If you're asserting an action took place, you and your reader should know who or what you claim set it in motion.This necessitates intellectual rigor and clarity.Also, I remember and have employed for twenty-five years Wydick's apt metaphor that good legal writing is like fine cabinetmaking: the skill of the craftsman is shown by the crafted joints not requiring glue, just as the quality of a piece of prose is shown by its lack of reliance on "glue words" (read the book).I've used the lessons of Wydick's brief book as a lawyer, writer and writing teacher.I've given it to colleagues, non-lawyers and young relatives.Their writing uniformly improved. ... This is THE book to read if you are Law School bound
I wasted my money on other books. The biggest waste of money was Law School Confidential. By Law in a Nutshell and don't waste your money on other books. It was terrific! It was even humorous.

Buy It, Borrow It, Just Get It.
The single best book that I have found which really does explain the study and practice of law, hence the title.

Excellent Resource
I purchased "The Lawyer's Career Change Handbook" along with other books written for people who have (or will soon have) law degrees, but are not sure they want to practice law.This book has been an invaluable tool in helping me realize where I want to go with my life. What I like most about it is that it includes exercises to make its readers think critically about their own skills, interests, and requirements in the workplace.I find that the book is very practical, and although I am just begining my job search, it has been helpful as a tool to prioritize what I'm looking for in an employer.
Repetitive Rehash
This is a book like the dozens of other career change ones out there - you can find this information in publications from years ago, and with much better advice. No new information, and would only help lawyers who would lack the imagination to think of "legal publishing" or "in-house counsel" as career options. Truly unhelpul.

A must-read for anyone interested in mock trial
While working with my mock trial team at Georgetown University, I urged everyone on the team to buy a copy of this book. Because we didn't have a coach, having some source of authority on numerous issues relating to mock trial was critical. This book fit those needs perfectly.Not only do the authors walk through the basics of a trial, but they also include numerous tips for those already advanced in trial advocacy. The Georgetown team won its division at the 2002 College Mock Trial Nationals, placing 2nd in the country, beating far more experienced and well-coached teams. This book was part of that surprising success. It is a must-read for anyone looking to be more competitive and effective in the courtroom.

A friendly, but realistic, guide to law school
Deaver's book is a good, light read. The main, primary focus of the book is to: (1) introduce you to an outlining system to prepare for your exams (and to help you study for them) and (2) to give you a brief, but reasonably thorough review of your entire law school experience, from the pros and cons of law review to how to write a good scholarly paper. Note the short page length--only about 200 pages. Thus, the book doesn't cover *everything* about law school, but it is a very good start. In addition to law school itself, it has some good overviews and tips about job prospects, the legal profession, summer opportunities, etc. It also has a brief overview of the LSAT and application process, although these areas are really not that informative to be worthy of publication (the main point of the book is, as I said, the outlining system and a rough overview of the law school experience itself--which this book does very well). It is written in an easy, casual manner and the author can be funny at times, too. All in all, a good, light, easy read about how to best study for law school classes.

Law School
This was an excellent book; I am still working on my undergraduate degree planning on attending law school. I know people who are attorneys and I have received there feedback but this book was so much more in depth and precise. I am doing a lot of research on what to expect during law school and how to get into a high tier institution. This book tells it all from admissions to class selection to internships. Law school confidential is a must read if you are planning towards law school.

Excellent if you're not sure if law school is what you want.
My ten year career has been in software development management. I have aspirations for business management as well as politics. So I thought perhaps a J.D. would help me further those goals. This book helped inform me exactly what to expect in law school, the tests, the application process, etc. It gives some ideas of what one can do with the degree, etc. It's a nice short book that you can read in one sitting. Extra Material for Studying
LSAT 180 is interesting in that it is supposed to be more difficult than regular LSAT questions but is also intended to help improve your LSAT taking-skills.The questions are difficult but all they aren't perfect.
Get Real PrepTest Questions
As one of the other reviewers pointed out, the questions used for prep in this book are very different from the actual LSAT questions that you'll be tested on.Not only are the style of writing and the format of the questions different in LSAT 180 than on an actual LSAT exam, but also, an equally persuasive case could be made for more than one of the answer choices in some of LSAT 180's Kaplan-created questions.The same isn't true on an actual LSAT exam (or is very rarely true) because once the subtleties of actual PrepTest questions are mastered, there is almost always a clearly superior answer.On LSAT 180, I found myself unconvinced in several instances by Kaplan's explanations as to why their preferred answer choice was superior to one of the other answer choices available.This never happens on a real LSAT PrepTest once you have grasped the stimulus and the question stem, with all their subtleties. ... The fun is in seeing what's dated
Professor Llewellyn's distinguished collection of lectures is best used nowadays, in my opinion, as a baseline to see what has changed in the legal profession and what has not.Llewellyn's discussion of the case system is a terrific look at the judge's toolbox, but law students today cannot rely on a deep understanding of the case system to become good lawyers -- the proliferation of other forms of law, particularly statutory and administrative law, is too great.On the other hand, Llewellyn's extreme statement of the legal realist position -- still only one competing theory of law when he gave his lectures -- is now the undisputed champion of the legal discipline, and it's fascinating to travel back to a time when the author felt the need to be an apologist for it.The chapters that stand up best, in my opinion, are the ones discussing the dilemma of siding with the powerful after graduation; this is a topic that only becomes more timely as expenses rise and the pressure to join Big Law grows for new law graduates.I would especially recommend this book for casual students of legal history or jurisprudence.

More Than a Law School Classic
Llewellyn wrote "Bramble Bush" as an introduction for law students, which is how I first read it in 1967. Nevertheless, practicing lawyers would profit from re-reading this wonderful book every several years, especially before working on an important appeal or on a case that may not be decided solely by the application of settled law. Its chapters on "This Case System" are a masterful exposition on how to understand, apply, and distinguish legal precedents. Another essential work on the development of caselaw is Cardozo's "The Nature of the Judicial Process." For a thoughtful introduction to the role of the lawyer in actual practice, I recommend, both to studends and practitioners, the advisedly titled "What Every Lawyer Knows" by Walter T. Fisher.

Standing the test of time.....
I actually felt myself getting smarter while reading this book.Outside of just covering "technicalities" of studying law, he also offers a fascinating perspective on the study and practice of law in relation to the lawyer's life (money/finc. security as primary motive for entering legal profession.)Also interesting are his views on making/missing law review and the effect this has on 2Ls.Overall, an excellent read, time well spent, and very deserving of the word "classic." ... Buy It!
I bought this book from Amazon after a rough sophomore year.I entered college knowing that I wanted to go to law school, but got caught up in the Greek scene and partied a little too much (not a whole lot, but let's just say that I didn't have a 4.0).This book was like a bucket of cold water in the face.It gives some great advice and I still read through it occasionally a year later.Susan takes a hard-stance approach that encourages the reader to have realistic expectations for law school, and gives some incredible advice for making the best choices in your given situation.I credit her as the catalyst for my academic makeover.Read this book for some great tips, and pick it up as soon as possible.You need to start preparing early if you are aiming for the top schools, and Susan gives the best advice that I have read so far.

The author explains in a no-nonsense manner the myths that some of us hold about which schools are the "best" and how such conclusions are reached.While everyone relies on U.S. News's magazine rankings, Susan Estrich emphasizes that the location is what matters the most in choosing a law school.Where will you end up practicing?That is key.And when it comes to recommendations, it does not matter that someone well-known is writing it.The people at admissions will also not care who your father is.
Best advice ever
I just finished my freshman year in college and I found this book to be an excellent starting point for designing my path to law school.It contains lots of info on what makes a good law school and it's not all based on what U.S. News or Princeton Review has to say. The advice in the book helps you to decide the best route for yourself, not just which ivy league to choose.
