One-sided approach to regulation
I would have preferred a text that merely reported employers' compliance obligations in an objective manner, rather than portraying employers as the enemy.I generally found the text to be highly politicized and, to some extent, anti-management.This book does little to bridge the gap between the business community and academia.

Employment Law for business
As an attorney, manager, and teacher of human resources professionals, I recommend this book.I found that thie information was thoroughly researched. I also appreciated that the legal information was presented in a business context so that managers who are not lawyers could understand the information andreadily appy it to real life workplace problems.

Plenty of books impart the basics of how to work independently - but too few include all the legal tips, tricks and traps involved. WORKING FOR YOURSELF: LAW & TAXES FOR INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS, FREELANCERS & CONSULTANTS covers everything from setting appropriate fees and understanding how and when taxes are paid to limiting liability and getting paid. Record-keeping processes are simplified with sample logs and entry advice, chapters on how the IRS defines an independent contractor versus a paid employee are essential keys to keeping independent status, and advice on pricing and insurance offer key strategy-oriented tips and approaches. A 'must' for any who would work independently.
Great straghtforward information and advice
I recently a started an S corp for my software contracting.The book is helpful and worth the price.It won't answer EVERY question you will have, but you probably should talk to a CPA for those anyway.

Another Nolo Press Winner

Worth its weight in gold!!!
This book should be on every employer's bookshelf! I am so impressed by how comprehensive, well organized, and easy to use it is. Steingold really knows what he's talking about, he explains all of the complex laws and regulations that trip up unprepared employers and result in expensive lawsuits. Thanks to this book I learned the best ways to comply with OSHA, wage-and-hour laws, sexual harassment and discrimination laws, the Americans with Disabilities Act and many many more. You owe it to yourself to know your rights and responsibilities as an employer and to protect your company from needless litigation.

A mile wide and several feet deep
An excelent, readable, survey of the law on this topic.The greatest strengths of the book are two-fold.First, it is written in easy to follow, plain english.Second, it is amazingly comprehensive.I have been practicing employment law in two millenia, and this is the book that I use (after reviewing dozens) to teach non-lawyer classes on the topic. As with any survey book, it doesn't cover the details of the many topics it touches.You don't want to use this book to deal with comprehensive planning or an employment law dispute.But if you read this book you'll understand much of the language and many of the concerns of the experienced human resources professional or lawyer that you need.

Excellent resource, but guidance was helpful
Teachers and the Law (6th Edition) was the primary text used for my National-Louis University (Wheeling, IL) School Law course. Although the text implies that only information regarding teachers will be discussed, Fischer actually covers legal issues that deal with many levels of educational law including student cases, administrator cases, and even cases that don't involve teachers at all, but loosely relate to educational law in general.
Teachers and the Law
I received the book in good shape.The cover looked next to new and there were very little marks or highlights in the text.

A Must Read for Teachers
Case law, unless done perhaps by the likes of John Grissam, is not page turning material.However, the authors have done an incredible job of putting very pressing and often complex areas into an accessible and engaging book.Written in an easy to use question and answer format, the updated book touches on education legal issues ranging from free speech, to students with disabilities, to internet issues.While of great use for educator (or educators to be), the book could also easily be adapted for classroom use, either as a debate or research starter.Worth every penny of its price. ... An easy read, but a bit out of date
I had to read this for a class and found it easy to read, but really out of date.Although revised in December of 2001, there is so much it left out in terms of changes in technology and 911 (and yes, these things do apply to Economics!) that I wonder how thoroughly it was updated. Best book on employment law out there!

carefully and closely reasoned investigation
Not light reading or a polemic, but rather a carefully and closely reasoned investigation of how one comes to decisions about matters involving the taking of life, with particular emphasis on doing so under the US Constitution not advised
I was actually looking forward to reading this book.I came with an open mind and yet the poor writing and lack of credible arguments astounded me.How is this author a scholar and still able to write weakly biased material that is published by a major house?
