I was disappointed by this book.I am a solo litigation attorney, and I read the book to get ideas on marketing.It gave me some ideas.Perhaps the most valuable idea was to focus more on customer service; Dahut has an interesting discussion about exactly what that means and how we can do it better.By and large, however, this is a book by and for big firm attorneys.It is about big firm angst and how it can be combated by hiring experts such as Dahut to do extensive consulting work for your firm.Dahut does not acknowledge, and does not care, that most attorneys are solos or work in small firms, and that we have very different issues than agonizing over whether we have lost our soul by conforming to much to dead firm culture.

This work is really true to its theme - it offers new perspectives on how to see business development and because of this new perspective, it makes the process very managable. I stongly recommend this book to anyone who is really serious about growing their practice.

"The Successful Lawyer: Powerful Strategies for Transforming Your Practice" is a powerful tool to help young attorneys explore ways of growing their practice. Gerry Riskin uses short, practical examples taken from every-day practice to help attorneys focus on situations they certainly will be faced with at some point in their careers.
5-0 out of 5 stars A practical resource: Be sure and take notes!
Legal consultant Gerald Riskin does a remarkable job of forcing practicing attorneys to look at their practice objectively, particularly from a client's point of view. He suggests early on that readers mark up the margins or keep a journal - good advice! I kept a list of pointers as I read to prioritize later. The author notes astutely that no lawyer is likely to do a full practice makeover, but anyone can read this book and come away with 3-4 things they can do immediately, at little or no expense, to improve their practice. By incorporating Riskin's suggestions, in manageable chunks of 3-4 at a time, any lawyer can expand their practice and (best of all) make their practice more satisfying. It is hard to imagine any attorney coming away from this very readable book without 20 or more ideas of things they want to change in their practice.

These CD's were completely geared toward marketing to the general public.They would be great for those who have a general practice, family, estate, or personal injury clientele.However, most of the author's advice does not really apply to those of us with savvy professionals for clients.I practice Creditor Rights Litigation.Most of the CD's just did not apply to getting corporations and businesses as clients.It was, however, entertaining and fast moving.It gave lots of great information.I just got sort of sick of hearing the author blather on about her own personal injury practice.
