Tells You Just What You Need to Know
More and more courts are allowing, if not requiring, that documents of all type be presented in electronic format either in addition to or in some cases instead of on paper. There are unquestionably a lot of lawyers who will assign the task of producing the electronic document to a secretary. But this is kind of like having a lawyer these days who can't use a PC - there probably are some, but they are getting fewer and fewer.

Legal Information You Can Bank On!
In my capacity of monitoring the information desk for Chicago's main library, the Harold Washington Library, I come in contact with numerous people who are embroiled in legal battles and who need some accurate guidance in plain English. This book, "Represent Yourself In Court," is one of the books I recommend the most for those who have minor legal issues and can't afford (or choose not) to hire an attorney. It walks you through a whole range of legal proceedings from start to finish. It also presents questions for you to ponder before you decide to initiate legal action. It's written for civil litigation, not criminal. It also gives information about settling a matter, and gives pointers on how to decide if yu need professional help.
A Good, but necessarily limited, intro to the legal system
Overall, I'd give this a positive rating, but since it's written for all 50 states, it is so broad in its coverage that it makes it difficult to learn about how to pursue your lawsuit in your particular state.Read more

a little dated, but...
I'll second the previous reviewer's call for an updated edition.Apparently the next edition, the 8th, is due for release in February 2008.

Time for an 8th Edition?
Akehurst's Modern Introduction to International Law provides a sound basis for understanding the United Nations, treaties, and international law. The only drawback to the book is that the material is becoming somewaht dated with its 1997 copyright.
Good book, good price
This book is the essential guide to international law. Not only does it cover important themes and treaties over every conceivable topic, it does so without too much legal jargon and too much dumbing down. It hits the perfect average reading level and provides citations to the primary sources from which statements are taken for further research and understanding. It is extrememly well organized. Useful reference book
The "Oxford Guide to US Supreme Court Decisions" is not much more than that. It gives an extremely expansive overview of all US Supreme Court cases that can remotely be considered important, throughout the period of its existence. Every case contains information on the reference number, the composition of the majority, concurrence and dissents, and a summary of what the case or controversy was about by a legal scholar.
Oxford Guire to US Supreme Court Decisions
This is a handy reference to quickly correlate discussions of past decisions in the many articles on supreme court actions as well as during the confirmation process. It is a good book for every supreme court watcher to have on the shelf.

Great Introduction Book
This book is perfect if you are interested in important decisions of the Supreme court but do not want to spend hours reading arguments, decisions and dissents in a civics book or findlaw.Oxford explains what happened in the case, why it is important and what the Supreme Court's decision did for American law.

A "must" book for the library of serious Parliamentarians !
Parliamentary Law is General Henry M. Robert's (the original author of Robert's Rules of Order) masterwork. The book was only released shortly before his death in 1923. Never Use it
I had to purchase this manual for my 1st Year Legal Writing class in Fall 2000.That was the last time I ever used it! Everyone I know uses the Blue Book.You'll probably never use the ALWD manual outside of your law school class.

Never Again . . .
I was required to use ALWD's Citation System in law school, in part because one of the professors is a member. However, as I do not work around any of the Courts that use it (e.g. 11th Cir., Montana, the Marshall Islands), then it is absolutely useless.
I didn't know how bad it was 'til I started blue-booking
There are several reasons this book is inferior to the Harvard Blue Book (HBB).

If you must have a day in court, make it a good one!
Reading this book and following the steps gave me a VICTORY on my day in court.This book, a great list of questions for the officer about my particular infraction (from the web), and the vehicle codes, were the only materials I used.I felt comfortable presenting my case and beating the wrap.It was awesome.The judge said he believed that I was indeed driving safely that day, "case dismissed".And I now *know* that I was truly not guilty.Using what I learned, I also assisted my mother in getting out of a Jaywalking ticket!I definitely recommend it for it's straightforwardness and simplicity and it's thoroughness.

A SO-SO Book.
This book is not too bad. It is full of great tips and tactics. But alot of it is common sense. If you really want to beat a speeding ticket and want to learn all about the equipment the police use to nail you, I suggest you buy the book called The Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets by Richard Wallace. He is an ex cop and who knows more about radar, speeding tickets than a cop. He has written a great book. His book helped me beat 2 speeding tickets so far. You can buy it right here at Amazon.

Not Bad
The author suggests a lot of common sense ideas on how to deal with police officers and with the court, such as being polite to the police officer no matter how rude or how evil thier tactics were to catch you.It also gives some really good suggestions on what to say and what not to say to the officer or in court.I can't say it works cuz since I bought the book, I've also bought a radar detector and that has saved me more than the book.Simplicity and the ideas written in this book are the basis of my rating. ... Relied on daily at work
Next to case law, I find Burton's Legal Thesaurus indispensible in writing appellate briefs. I only wish it were available in a downloadable form for use with my word processing program.

A must for anyone even thinking of getting a divorce!
I bought this book and even though I used a lawyer it was great.I totally understood everything to expect and it did not seem so confusing.I really liked seeing what the forms are.The info about mediation would have helped me a lot if I ordered the book before we went to the lawyer.The advice about custody was so right.

The facts speak volumes
