If you are or want to become an independent film producer, this book will give you all of the business/legal knowledge of filmmaking you need.Even though I have not finished the book yet, I've already found this book to be extremely valuable.Because I am planning to produce a new film next year, I even called up Mr. Tulchin directly for legal advice.He was very friendly and took the time to give me great advices and was very knowledgeable in not just U.S. based entertainment law but also international entertainment law as well.Read this book and you will find it worth more than what you paid for!!!

The 'business' of 'show business' explained
One thing that isn't taught that much at film schools is how many contracts are generated and how much time you spend negotiating deals.Our first film is still in post-production (April 2003) and we already have a filing cabinet filled with contracts and paperwork. I wish this book had been available when we started production.The chapter on delivery requirements alone is worth every penny.In it you'll find out what a distributor will want along with your film.Don't forget the still photographer on the set and behind the scenes!Great and easy read, too. ... Grace is a loud mouth airhead.
The woman just yells and tells people they are idiots both in this book and on her CNN show, She offers no helpful suggestions, she is just a loud mouth airhead nothing else.

Nancy is both ignorant and opinionated--an appalling combo
Nancy is so blinded by her agenda--attacking defense attorneys and defendants--that she manipulates or ignores facts that are contrary to her extreme views.I have rarely heard anything worthwhile come out of her mouth on CourtTV, and this book is no different.I hope readers (and CourtTV viewers) who are less informed about the judicial system (I am a lawyer) realize not to take anything she says at face value. ... A Horror Story
I sat in stunned silence as I turned the final page of "Cry Rape," Bill Lueders' heart-rending story of a rape victim doubted, and ultimately tormented, by police. My 10-year-old son asked about what I had been reading, saying, "Is it a mystery?"
The Madison Idea
Cry Rape is the story of a rape victim's victimization by the criminal justice system. It is a story about a cop who seems predisposed to "prove" rape victims liars, about a police department that protects bad cops, about a district attorney's office willing to further victimize the victim to protect bad cops, about judges willing to interpret the law in ways that protect bad cops and bad policies, about elected and appointed officials who stand behind the victimization, and (though only peripherally) newspaper editors who don't seem to care.

Everyone should read this
This book takes some very complicated issues and makes them easy to understand. The arguments are persuasive and well researched.I found myself getting angry at what is happening to our country and this book explains much of it. This is an interesting perspective and I hope it will start a new debate about the value of public media and spectrum as a public resource.

a Marxist view
It's always interesting to read a Marxist view of anything to get a vastly different perspective from the usual liberal and conservative views (and the few moderate views that manage to find their way into print).

the best reference book updated
Narayan of Rebeccasreads highly recommends REEL JUSTICE as a great companion for the courtroom movie buff.
the new edition is great
I've read the new and older edition. Both are great, though the newer edition is even more fun and informative. There's a new feature, 'Picturing Justice' that provides an analysis of how cinema art -- the direction, imagery and screenwriting -- can add an extra dimension to judicial themes. This is a welcom edition for any cinema or legal library. And it's pretty witty, as well.

A popular film guide with real substance.
As a lawyer, I did not expect that a book on movie trials, aimed at a popular audience, would have much substance. But I was very pleasantly suprised. The authors, two law professors, do an excellent job of pointing out the numerous errors Hollywood makes when it tries to depict a trial. (Most non-lawyers would be surprised, for example, to learn that *My Cousin Vinny* is much more realistic than *The Verdict.*) The authors' discussions go into real (but not tedious) depth about not only the errors in the way judges, lawyers, etc., behave on film, but also the mistakes scriptwriters make in creating tactics and legal theories for their characters. In addition, the authors helpfully explain what would (most likely) *really* happen in many filmed situations. Because the authors treat each movie at length, this is not an exhaustive filmography. However, all the biggies are here, and the book also contains usefully organized indexes. This would be a great selection for lawyers, film buffs, or anyone who has to serve on a jury. ... Read more

Really provocative
I loved this illuminating and thought-provoking book.Lessig makes a compelling argument against extended copyright laws and other issues that may interfere with creating new projects based on derivative works.

Like we need another review here. Anyhow, my 2 bits . . . because no one else has mentioned it.
a fantastic read. well crafted - couldn't put it down!
i am a content creator myself (artist and graphic designer) and this presented issues of intellectual property, copyrights and file sharing in a proper perspective. lessig stays fairly moderate throughout, borrowing rally cries from both the left and the right. the reviewer who called him a "communist" has obviously not read the whole book. a person of such limited mental faculty probably had difficulty finishing it.
