The world doesn't always move in curves
This book is recommended, but with a caveat.Like most books about international relations written by social scientists who tend to simplify things for the sake of providing an over-arching structure, this one is to be read with a measure of skepticism.For a detailed review (or two), check out the recent debate in Slate.com between the journalists Bill Emmott and Fareed Zakaria, who are, respectively, an editor of The Economist and a columnist for Newsweek.(You can search within Slate by typing out their names and the title of the exchange: "Debating the J-Curve".)Here's two quotes from their exchanges.
Simplistic and Unoriginal
The main argument of the book is simple: as countries go from dictatorship to democracy things get worse before they get better. This has been a central argument of political science, and Mr. Bremmer neither acknowledges what others have said nor does he add much to them. All he book has to say comes in the first ten pages. After that it is snipets of histories of countries which do not add much.

Worth the Read
Whether you're an avid reader or professional investor, Ian Bremmer's book is worth your time. Ian's writing is organized, clear and concise. The book is written for the average reader; you do not need to be a policy wonk to understand his points. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, Ian Bremmer's book provides an excellent basis for continuing debate regarding U.S. foreign policy.

Dont buy from amazon
Attn all students! Amazon promises to send books by a specific date then changes the dates without your consent. Trying to get a refund is a nightmare. Be prepared to get stuck without the book and still get the bill. Customer service is outsourced to India and is no help even if you could understand them. 4 wks and counting and still no promised refund. This not the only time this has happened.The issue is not with the seller it is Amazon.

Excellent Book
I had this for my business law class and it was excellent! It is easy to read, the cases are interesting and the format is one of the best for a textbook!

One-sided approach to regulation
I would have preferred a text that merely reported employers' compliance obligations in an objective manner, rather than portraying employers as the enemy.I generally found the text to be highly politicized and, to some extent, anti-management.This book does little to bridge the gap between the business community and academia.

Employment Law for business
As an attorney, manager, and teacher of human resources professionals, I recommend this book.I found that thie information was thoroughly researched. I also appreciated that the legal information was presented in a business context so that managers who are not lawyers could understand the information andreadily appy it to real life workplace problems.

Decent, but rather uneven coverage for an intro text.
One benefit of this book is that it contains articles, commentary, and discussion questions all in one text.It also covers a wide variety of issues, which is good since business ethics is a vast subject.On the negative side, I don't think the organization of the sections is the most effective way to approach the topic.The sections are organized based on a 1991 survey of CEOs in which the participants ranked their most important types of ethical dilemmas. As a result, there isn't the logical flow or progression of ideas from chapter to chapter that one might expect from a philosophy book. Unfortunately, the pragmatic interests of CEOs are not the same as the educational needs of students who are new to business ethics.There is also no discussion of ethical theories and no direct interaction between the articles. On the whole, this book may be beneficial if used in conjunction with a survey of ethical theories and ethical decision-making, but taken by itself it makes for a rather uneven introduction to business ethics. ... A very useful book - whether you go to law school or not
I was seriously considering applying to the law school last summer, and this book was one of those that I purchased to read along with LSAT prep books. The book had specific cases lined up in order from easy ones to more complicated, and it hasquestions of the end of each chapter, so that you can test yourself and your udnerstanding of material and how it applies in the courtroom. Also, I liked the sense of humor of the author; it was very encoureging in the beginning, and then kept peeking throught the book.
Buy this if you want to waste your time
All of the E&E books I have read, especially this one, are disappointing. I guess they can be helpful if you haven't been attending class and need to learn the material for the first time. But I'm not sure why a student who has kept up in class would waste time with such a vague and introductory study guide. I recommend a more advanced, detailed and concise study guide. Also, the Q&As at the end of the chapters are too verbose for what they cover. Most of the answers are pages long, when they should be at most a few paragraphs, if not a few sentences.

If you are struggling in Civil Procedure, buy this book.
Personally, I found Civil Procedure was the most difficult class in my first year of law school.I purchases several secondary sources but none were as helpful as Glannon's book.Glannon's book teaches by taking its reader through series of exercises that start with the basics then build into complex problems.Each problem comes with well written, complete, and comprehendible answers.The book uses helpful diagrams for explaining confusing topics such as the sometimes-confusing relationship between subject matter jurisdiction, person jurisdiction, and venue. ... Don't Buy
The book has no color at all, everything is in black and white; also the case files found in the book are briefed and are poor reflections from the orginal public documents.I had to buy this book for a college class, it was cheaper here than in the school book store but I feel the book is only worth $20.

Good overview of business law
I realize that many of you buying this book won't have a choice about it--it's probably required for a class you are taking and don't much care how good or bad the book it because you need it regardless. However, for those of you who do have a choice: Current, Thorough, and User-Friendly
In my opinion, this is the finest business law textbook on the market.It contains well-edited cases for discussion, cogent analysis of policy and legal history, and easy-to-read flowcharts that help students go through the legal reasoning steps.Read more
