Informative... But intellectually useless.
This book is actually a direct translation of a major comparative study by the late shi`i scholar Muhammad Jowwad Maghniyyah.The original work as well as the translation simply list religious rules regarding certain cases and highlights the differences between the Sunni and shi`i scholars. Author fills a big gap in this field of comperative study of Islamic sects and suprizingly it even includes the shia't belief. As the name suggests it is all about how each school of thought consideres the Islamic law, what is their opinion on certain issues. Of course issues that are not disputed is not covered but only those that are different is covered. Author also provides some explanations behind the opinions. I passed both the CLEP BL1 and Dantes BL2 by studying this resource. My scores on both were 71. You should not need any other materials to supplement, but make sure you know the content well. Important read for anyone interested in American Jurisprudence
Gideon's Trumpet is an account of Clarence Earl Gideon -- an indigent prisoner who took his Habeas case to the Supreme Court and spawned the 60's federal and state movement to establish legal representation for the outcast. His case, Gideon vs. Wainwright (1963), resulted in the Supreme Court's unanimous decision to overturn a 21-year-old ruling in Betts vs. Brady, and secured the right of legal representation for the accused who do not have the means to pay for a counsel in the United States.
Great Legal History

This volume of essays conceives transgender as a global social movement for rights, including discussions of law, politics and economics.It is academic in tone, but much of it is accessible to a lay audience.While its essays are wide-ranging, covering such diverse topics as multiculturalism, disability laws and Argentinian concepts of citizenship, there is, to my mind, a theme to these essays: the social contradictions that arise from the attempts of supposedly liberal Western societies to assimilate transgender identity.The title of Jan Morris's gender transition autobiography, "Conundrum," comes to mind.Paisley Currah's discussion of the transgender movement refers to it as one "that seeks the dissolution of the very category under which it is organized." Judith Butler's article about the psychiatric diagnosis of "gender identity disorder" notes that "the price of using the diagnosis to get what one wants is that one cannot use language to say what one really thinks is true." Pleasant Surprise
Who would read a book with this title other than someone who has a running interest in law firm management?Well, anyone with that running knowledge knows that law firms are different from other entities and that they are hard to manage and that they are notorious for being mis-managed.So, what else is new?
