5-0 out of 5 stars prompt delivery
It is important to receive email from seller to confirm the transaction, which he/she did. Prompt delivery. Book arrived in good condition as stated.

1-0 out of 5 stars Far too general to be of value
Read this one a year ago and found it to be very non specific in the elements necessary to gain compliance. Now after three SOX engagements and having to deal with the intricacies of 404, this book stands as a poor introduction to the enormity of the task to follow.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Information value
I am writing a paper about SOA and read different books about it. In comparison to other books the Manager's Guide by Scott Green gives poor information about the SOA itself and talks about risks and controls most of the companies have realized centuries ago. In addition there are absurd comparisons to foreign laws, which maintain uselessness (for example a german law). I guess Scott Green has never been to Germany and doesn't know anything about Corporate Governance in Europe. I have traveled through Europe and found much better quality in leadership there and articles of most famous business magazins affirm my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'The' book to read on the issue of the role of corporate power in the US
Disclaimer: I'm a bit more than half through the book - and ready to comment on it.
4-0 out of 5 stars informative evaluation of a business dominated culture
A very good evaluation how business dominates govenments, now and in the past. It illustrates how everyone must be vigilent if an individual is to be of any importance in any society. The informed reader will find the book somewhat redundant, because the author tends repeat examples after he has clearly made his point.

4-0 out of 5 stars Can't laugh away world spinning out of control
While some of the material here is not unique to Hartmann, it's the sort of thing you don't read out in the open.

5-0 out of 5 stars Persuasive advice for lawyers
In Legally Speaking, Mr. Dempsey has created an invaluable guide for lawyers, and I suspect non-lawyers, who need to make presentations to small or large groups. His observations about the art of persuasion are both amusing and insightful. As Dempsey makes clear, talking is not the same as presenting. His focus on "making your case" gets right to the heart of what lawyers do for their clients.Dempsey really wants you to win your audience over and tells you quite clearly how to achieve that goal.Dempsey's comprehensive approach (40 principles!), covers every aspect of lawyers' presentation skills, but still leaves you with one unanswered question: "Can you do a book for non-lawyers?"

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book!
Where was this book when I was in law school? This is an exceptional overview of not only the tools but also the techniques attorneys so desperately need to communicate clearly. Dempsey not only tells you what you need to know to communicate concisely and with clarity (something far too few attorneys do) but he gives you practical advice you can immediately implement to enhance your speaking skills, regardless of the amount of speaking you do, or where you do it. The writing is engaging, entertaining and highly informative. There are hundreds of ideas and examples for every attorney. This should be required reading in for every law student and lawyer regardless of how often they speak-we need to do a better job and this book shows us how. This is the essential guide, written by an attorney for attorneys. Buy it now!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book actually deserves 10 stars!
Legally Speaking is a book that is almost too good to be true. Its information for masterful presentations provides breadth, depth, and enormous practical application. What's more, it is easy to read. The book is an excellent resource for anyone who needs to be a more effective communicator. David Dempsey has done an excellent job of laying out his outline in the contents. It is very easy to quickly turn to the information that is most needed in a given moment. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Primer on Trusts

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book for new practitioners!
I have only purchased this book tonight, yet not on Amazon.com.I actually went to Borders and paid full price.Reason being, I could not wait to get my hands on a reference book to help me conceptualize projects and cases that I presently deal with at work as a new estate and tax planning attorney.I hear about ABC trusts, GST trusts, Living Trusts, just to name a few, every day.Yet I don't have the slightest idea about the particular mechanics of many of these valuable estate planning and tax saving tools.
2-0 out of 5 stars Written in Legaleeze...got a better book for you
Read "Beyond the Grave, The Right Way and the Wrong Way of Leaving Money to Your Children" instead of this book or before you read this book.I bought both and gave up on this book after a couple chapters.Itwas a struggle to get through.Very dry, written like a tech manual, areal sleeper.Go read the reviews on Amazon for Condon's book beforedeciding which one to order.Trust me, you want the other book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One for your Personal Library
Here is a book you can refer to forever.Good stuff to know.
4-0 out of 5 stars Become an Informed Driver
This book was very knowledgeable on the ways cops obtain your speed as well as the faults in the types of ways they obtain it. Along with using correct and "street" terminology, it talks about the different types of radar used to pick up your speed and how they obtain your speed by pacing you. There are MANY faults and this book just confirms my prior thoughts that tickets are purely a money making scam not only for the police but for the insurance agencies as well. If nothing else buy it to be prepared when you do get pulled over as it gives you good tips on how to get away from a ticket at this early stage to. 4 out of 5 only because it does not list laws from every state just some laws from some states.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best friend for pro se litigants in the strange land of law.
This is one of the best books I have read and enjoyed about pro se litigation. The large font, great white space, and properly displayed summary tables render the book easy to endure and utilize. The authors offer many proverbs and examples for lay people that alleviate the harshness of legal lingo. Moreover, they even translate the formal and non-technical English words into layman's language. For example, words such as "sanction, impeach, strike, motion, cross, re-cross, direct, and re-direct" are simplified to common readers to mean "punish, discredit, delete, request, and questioning of witnesses in different setting".

5-0 out of 5 stars One of those style books that ranscebds its genre.
I'm a lawyer who is considered a wordsmith by colleagues and judges. This is one of the most important books I've ever encountered.I was exposed to it in my first law school year's writing class, and its lessons have remained with me since.Banish the passive voice! (unless deliberately and thoughfully chosen and used). This is not merely a key to fluidity in writing, but in a sense a moral imperative.Actions are attributable to actors - they don't simply occur. If you're asserting an action took place, you and your reader should know who or what you claim set it in motion. This necessitates intellectual rigor and clarity. Also, I remember and have employed for twenty-five years Wydick's apt metaphor that good legal writing is like fine cabinetmaking: the skill of the craftsman is shown by the crafted joints not requiring glue, just as the quality of a piece of prose is shown by its lack of reliance on "glue words" (read the book).I've used the lessons of Wydick's brief book as a lawyer, writer and writing teacher.I've given it to colleagues, non-lawyers and young relatives.Their writing uniformly improved. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All Around Good Introduction To Business Law
Well written book that provides a good introduction into business law principles. Outlines complex concepts with case law that makes it easy to understand. A reccomended read for the pre-law students as well as a valuable reference for business owners.

2-0 out of 5 stars Condition of Text
The text was torn. The cover was horrible and it had so much writing in it. It was the wrong text. I typed the IBSN, why would that book show up. I was very disappointed in this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Business Law Explained for the Intelligent Layman
I was given this book for free by someone who had used it for a college course and didn't want it. I couldn't believe the person wanted to throw it away. This book tells all the basics of business law. If you don't know anything about business law, read it. It is a good book for beginners. I know I will keep it for a reference book for a long time. I am starting my own business and I refer to it all the time. Not only does the book tells just about everything you need to know about business law, it gives actual descriptions of court cases to illustrate the points of each section. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is THE book to read if you are Law School bound

4-0 out of 5 stars Gates and Buffet aren't the only ones who need an estate plan
After dealing with the aftermath of my father's death, I resolved I was going to do things differently.I read a number of estate planning books, but Cornwall's was far and away the most helpful. Written in simple layman's language, Everything a Baby Boomer Should Know demystifies the legal process. The book is also refreshing because the author discusses real-life topics. You think you have complex family issues?Consider what Bonanza's Ben Cartwright would face in today's legal environment. These are the types of clever examples Cornwall laces through the chapters.I can't afford the kind of legal muscle Gates and Buffet have, but I can certainly follow their example by knowing all my options and taking charge of my legacy. This book is definitely one of the most informative and easiest to read books on this topic.
