Great Book for Novices
I needed a book that would explain the basics and give me the confidence I needed to draft contracts. This book hit the spot. The author, deftly explains the basics of contracts, boilerplate terms and what not to do. It was simple, funny and very informative. I was specifically looking for information on business sales contracts but found a lot of information about stock purchases, employee contracts etc., things I will need to know more about in the future. The CD was also very helpful with a wealth of document examples. I would heartily recommend this book for others like me, newcomers to the business world. Once you have the basics or wish to delve deeper into the legal jungle then you will need a more indepth text. However for those without a legal background and in need of a concise, easy to understand and informative book on business contracts, this is the book for us. ... Read more

Valuable resource!
As a student who wants to work for agencies to prevent crime on the internet, I wasn't sure how much "Family Law and Practice: The Paralegal's Guide" was going to do for me.It turned out to be an incredible resource, not only of how the system works, but also of the workings of families in suboptimal conditions. Great for Students and People Interested in the Law
This is a wonderful book for both students and people interested in family law.It covers everything from the history of family law to current events, such as Roseanne and Tom Arnold's marriage.The cases are more like soap operas than the dry cases one usually associates with law.These cases will inspire great conversation in the classroom and will hold the students' interest from start to finish. ... A convenient concise OVERVIEW
This is quick 85-page overview of the patent process. It provides the key steps, requirements, and definitions in very plain terms (almost in the same style of language as the IRS's 1040EZ instructions). However, it steers clear from giving ADVICE.If you need advice, try Patent It Yourself, from Nolo Press.
Government publication that needs a new edition
This is not the first place to start if you're interested in the patent process.The law is dynamic and this book was out of date years ago.There are many other books out there that will outline the basics in a much more reliable way.Look for a book that will discuss World Trade Organization provisions and other international aspects of IP law - otherwise it's too limiting.Never choose to file for a patent application yourself.Use references to educate yourself on the process and then if you want to pursue this expensive process (which can become more expensive if you make an error) find a registered agent or attorney.

A Good Introduction
This book offers a simple, straightforward interoduction to patent law. If you are starting from scratch, this is a good place to start. There isn't much "how to" in this book, so it's probably best for someone who plans to work with a patent lawyer or service. ... Read more

Great Book on how to start!
This book was interesting in that it teaches you the basics of corporate business structure. I thought that the book "The Wal-Mart Way" by Don Soderquist was great book as well. It is a guide that will become an instant standard for building a strong last corporation.

Informative, hard to plod through in places
The book has a lot of useful information about setting up and running small corporations.

Never Judge a Book by its Cover
This book provides vital information not usually covered in most self-publishing books and is a solid resource guide. Another confirmation that you need to read many books on your subject to familiarize yourself with the business. Areas such as how to protect your inventory by filing a UCC in the state the distributor is based, understanding the ins and outs of how distributors work, how to establish discounts and payment schedules that protect your financial structure, how to properly set-up your Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable,taxes, LLC's, S Corporations,etc. Peter Hupalo's only weak area is his cover design.Anyone this intelligent should know their strengths and weakness's, and graphic design/layout is his. His book deserves better and would appeal to more buyers if it was redesigned.

Good for beginners, but likely to upset anyone else!
If you're buying this book for yourself, spare yourself the headache.It is certainly not of any academic value, and considering what I've read so far, it does even appear to be a business law book.The book chronicles very simple and basic legal matters, and presents these topics in such a way, someone interested in a thorough discussion of them would likely become upset.

I read this book and it was great!
I found this book very easy to understand and informative. I have attended estate planning seminars and other financial conferences, but came away overwhelmed and confused. Jay has a great personal story that really adds to his credibility. After I finished reading it, I immediately read it again. I know what to do and what not to do. I have changed the way I do business since I read this book.
Fantastic Book
I have read hundred of books on finances and I would rate this book near the top as to its usefulness. I learned more about asset protection from reading this book than I have learned from the hundreds of hours I have spent with CPAs, attorneys and financial advisors over the years.

Pass
Among his estate planning peers, Jay Mitton is one of the least liked and most notorious attorneys because of his heavy marketing of arguably worthless pre-made kits for family limited partnerships. The low quality of these kits, combined with Mitton's less-than-truthful marketing, has generated some scathing comments on the American Bar Association's estate planning bulletin board. The Supreme Court of Florida in fact entered an order prohibiting him from marketing in that state. The guy is a great marketer, to be sure, but his products can be charitably described as substandard and if you buy his book you need to also buy a ton of salt to go with it. ... Read more

Outstanding Real Estate Reference Book
As a community college real estate instructor, and as the book review editor for a national real estate magazine, I read a lot of real estate books. As a writer myself, I do a lot of research. In the reference category, this book is number one on my list. As I said in my review of a previous edition of the book: "I never leave home for the classroom without it."If you are enrolled in a real estate licensing class this book will be particularly valuable to you, since you're essentially learning a new language - the language of real estate. The feature that makes it particularly valuable is the fact that when it defines a term, it gives references to all related terms in the book. By the time you review them all, you'll have excellent insight into the topic. The primary author, John Reilly, has a background as an attorney, real estate professional,educator, and author.The co-author, Marie Spokek, is a nationally know real estate educator. In my office I have a special shelf above my computer for the real estate books to which I refer the most often. This book occupies a prominent spot. Dr. Ken Edwards, Book Review Editor, The Real Estate Professional magazine.

Excellent Resource
This book was great. I just passed my real estate exam and the book was a great reference for those subjects that were not clear in the classroom. I will be able to use this book throughout my real estate career. Well worth the money!

Great Book!!!
I have seen mixed reveiws on the Spanish translation in this book.It does not bother me that it is in there.I practice real estate in Arizona...it is nice if I have a client with broken English.I will take anything that has a freebie in it.The translations in here are not bothersome at all.It has examples of terms and has some illustrations...along with sample contracts! Understand Legal concepts easily with this book!
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Tonya Marie Evans at the Book Expo of America in Washington DC this year and she is a smart, enthusiastic, driven woman. This book should be required reading for anyone wishing or thinking about writing and publishing a book. Well-written, to the point and organized!
Literary Law Guide for Authors is my 'gold medal'. I treasure this well-written and VERY easy-to-read book! I've written (self-published) a children's book and currently writing a spiritual anthology. In both cases, I desperately needed contract forms and from searching the internet and communicating briefly with the author, I ordered this book. The forms section (in addition to the CD) included every bit of information I needed to create and provide a professional looking contract. I just can't say enough of this book. TIMELY. WELL-WRITTEN. A Lot of Information about this new Business Model
A limited liability company is a relatively recent addition to the traditional forms of companies. It has some fo the advantages of a corporation, and the tax advantages of a partnership, sole proprietorship or corporation depending on the desires of the owners. It is not suitable for all organizations, but if you are considering one, here is the place to start.

do NOT use this as a textbook
The very first sentence of the Prologue of this book contains a grammatical error (it should be "principles," not "principals") and I am sorry to say that things don't get much better.I purchased this book as a text for an Employment Law class and it was terrible; I quit using it halfway through the course and recommended the instructor find another text.The author seems to think he's the most credible person in the world but, as someone who is also a human resources practitioner, I can assert from experience that many of his opinions (several of which are presented as "facts") are wrong.He clearly doesn't even understand what the field of human resources IS, and in many cases I found his tone very offensive. Hodgepodge of mismatched topics
Sovereign seems to skip around often in a half-hearted effort at being comprehensive.The cases are not very recent, despite the publication date, and the book has a definite lack of flow.It is almost as if theauthor threw together several mismatched segments and forgot to edit it forcomprehension and cohesiveness.

Adequate on the law; suffers from poor editing
I have to use this book as the text for a class I teach in Employment Law (i.e., non-collective-bargaining law) to students matriculating to a Master of Science Degree in Human Resources.The text adequately surveys the law, but suffers from terrible proofing and editing; it also needs an update, because the 1994 edition obviously was not written any later than early 1993, based on the omission of certain important U.S. Supreme Court cases from 1994 and since.The book also suffers from an extremely strong pro-management tone; a more balanced approach would serve the untutored reader better.There are better books, such as the ABA Guide, which I commend to potential readers of this book. ... GREAT CLEP AND DANTES PREP
I passed both the CLEP BL1 and Dantes BL2 by studying this resource. My scores on both were 71. You should not need any other materials to supplement, but make sure you know the content well. Do It Right - Do It Yourself - And Save Money!
On the last couple of patent applications I submitted, I ended up doing 90% of the drawings myself because it turned out to be easier than continuously having to correct the mistakes of the draftsman.My attorney said that my drawings just needed to be shaded and cleaned up a bit, and have the legends applied, but otherwise what ended up going into the applications was essentially my drawings with a few more bells and whistles.His draftsman had just put them on a light table and copied them as is.But I still had to pay for the drawings! Outstanding Step by Step for the Do-it-yourself Inventor
I have all of David Pressman's books on patenting, you know why? Because I filed my own patent using these books. That's how good they are. They really do have step by step instructions. He also has software that helps you prepare the docs. I sort of used that as well. Again, reasonable priced, and useful. I strongly recommend these books for anyone that wants to File a Patent. They will allow you to do it yourself without an attorney.
