Extremely helpful guide
During the extreme stress of preparing for a deposition,my lawyers prepared me for the facts,but not the technique.The examples and philosophy and clarity of writing in this book were INVALUABLE to me.I also found it to be helpfully in dealing with the tremendous emotional impact of the litigation.
Informative and readable
As an attorney who has represented clients on both sides of the proverbial isle, I plan to have my clients read this book before any deposition.Dr. Uribe sucessfully demisifies this process for the non-lawyer and makes it understandable to those who do not think like us.I believe this book gives several useful tools to help those not trained in the law navagate a difficult and stressful experience.Excellent work!

Outright ripoff
I am a plaintiff attorney and read this book out of outright curiosity. It got stars across the board, so I figured it was worth 50 bucks. I could not have been more wrong.Read more

This is a great topic and a great read!
While I thoroughly enjoyed Wesemann's earlier book on Management Myths, this is a fabulous. It is curious that no other publication (that I'm aware of) in the professional service sector has explored the topic of competitive dominance. This is a unique topic and extremely well presented.

Straight forward - straight talking, forward thinking

Careful, unbiased review of the evidence
There is nothing casual about this book's consideration of racial bias in the criminal justice system. The authors offer a very careful, balanced and thorough evaluation of racial bias in the various stages of the arrest, sentencing, incarceration, etc. based on a comprehensive consideration of the evidence from numerous studies. What is so striking about this study is that the authors are able to describe this evidence in a very understandable way that should be accessible to the general public. They find that while some areas of the criminal justice system are racial discriminatory, others are not. An excellent book!

Informative - YES; balanced and unbiased - NO!
I purchased this book as recommended supplementary reading for a college level criminal justice course.The book is advertised as "Comprehensive and balanced" and "uniquely unbiased" on the back cover.I was hoping for a book that honestly and objectively presented both sides of the debate regarding race and crime.I am not qualified to debate the accuracy of the data presented, or to argue that the authors are incorrect in their charges of discrimination in the criminal justice system.However, the book adamantly asserts that discrimination is responsible for the disparity between races in the crime data and casually dismisses opposing arguments.The authors presentation is neither balanced or unbiased. ... A student's take
I bought this book to kick start my research for my senior independent study on jury consultants and their effects on the justice system.I was not dissapointed.The bibliography alone is worth the price of admission.The author cites authorities on persuasion, jury psychology, group dynamics, cognition, rhetoric, among numerous other topics.
Great survey of the literature
A very nice survey of the scientific literature and studies out there.Its strong point is its bibliography. Very readable.

Powerful.Thought-provoking.Masterful.

practical, detailed and helpful
In this appropriately named "Checklist and Field Guide" Vernon J. Geberth distills the complexities of criminal investigation into a series of helpful checklists and charts. The reading is informative (though not always engaging) and he provides a necessary resource for law enforcement personnel as well as a helpful guide for authors writing books involving criminal investigation or police procedures.

For trial lawyers
I just finished this book. As a trial lawyer, I have used various trial presentation methods for years. I am always looking for new ideas, however. This book, perhaps because it is written by a trial lawyer, had excellent examples that were very helpful to me.

Gives you an edge over the others
Rogers' book is an easy-to-understand, intuitive and state of the art guide to trial lawyers for getting an edge on the opposition. For some of us, "technology" is a four letter word. Rogers de-mystifies it, and shows how simple it is to use it to persuade ... and to win.

Terrific Technical Guide
Use of technology in the courtroom is a fast evolving area of trial practice with which most lawyers are not familiar. This book is a practical, easy to use guide which emphasizes the utility of programs such as Powerpoint and Sanction II in a real courtroom setting. Attention to Detail is Important
Attention to detail is important in almost all areas of endeavor, but especially so in forensic science.This book violates that fundamental in the first chapter.In describing the trial of Theodore Robert Bundy for the Chi Omega Sorority murders, it refers to the testimony of a certain forensic odontologist, and says that as a result of the testimony of the forensic odonotologist, Bundy was executed.This is incorrect.Bundy was not executed for the Chi Omega murders, but for the subsequent murder of a young girl.Forensic science figured prominently in that conviction also, but it was microanalysis and shoetrack comparison, not forensic odontology, that was instrumental in sending Bundy to the electric chair.
Fundamentals is easy to read but a wealth of forensic information
Forensic Scientists Max Houck and Jay Siegel have just released a forensic science text which is perfect for beginners but offers much for seasoned scientists. The book's thoroughness is revealed across its 672 pages. Topics include a discussion of criminal justice and forensic science, analytical tools and introductions to biological science, chemical science, and physical science. Forensic science's relationship with law is in the concluding chapter.

the worst casebook in all lawschool
I never encountered a less useful book during all my three long years at law school. Do youself a favor and buy a companion guide- nutshell or something.

Wishful thinking from Insurance Company Defense
Particularly when compared to the classic Prosser & Keaton, it is pretty clear that this text is geared toward tort "reform."There are long excerpts from law review articles written by the authors (how modest.) Conservative points of view are offered without "alternatives."The history of torts in the common law is rather distorted, particularly regarding strict liability which these authors present like it is a surprising new invention. The Products Restatement is overemphasized.And too many cases that come out aberrantly for the defense are included. If nothing else deters you from registering for the class that uses this book, consider how you would feel about a book called "Tax Law and Alternatives"or "Contract Law and Alternatives."This is law school folks.The alternatives are Med School and B-School.As long as you're in law school please try to find out what the law is.What somebody thinks it should be is all well and good, but it is not helpful to present "alternatives" as thought they are the current state of tort law.

1st Year Tort Law
You will most likely not buy this book for fun but because your 1st yearlaw professor tells you to.Most parts of the book are very dry and ittakes a long time to read it properly.The cases are good, standard Tortcases.The most helpfulexplanations can be found in the Notes andQuestions.While the book is dry bordering on boring, the Notes andQuestions at the end of each chapter will give you a much betterunderstanding of the information.Franklin and Rabin deal with physicalinjuries, non-physical harm, causation, trespass and liability.Read more

Courtroom 302
This book is a candid look at life in Chicago's Cook County Criminal Courthouse. It covers the day-to-day actions of accused criminals, court officers, public defenders, prosecutors and judges from inside the courthouse and lockups.
A good read but also depressing.
I found this book to be a good book to read but it also made me realize more than ever how unjust our justice system can be.The author portrays the people involved in the criminal justice system as being so mechanical at their jobs that justice just doesn't seem to enter the picture very often.Sadly the book is probably an accurate account of the Chicago court system, or any other court system in our country, but reading it made me wonder, if all this injustice is so evident to everyone involved, why is it being allowed to continue.These people who have other peoples futures and freedom in their hands seem to just find it easier to follow their routine than to do the right thing and create a criminal justice system that really does protect us and consider everyone innocent until proven guilty.This book definitely reaffirms the sad state that our court systems have become.

Courtroom 302 not the television perspective of the courtroom
A must read for anyone remotely connected to or interested in the criminal justice system.It is at once informative and depressing.What makes it so valuable is that you get the back story of each participant (judge, DA, PD and defendent).The reality of a system that treats defendents with disdain and offers justice for a price should open a few eyes.
