Detailed and theoretical
As a beginning mediator, I found this book very detailed and theoretical. I am sure that I will return to it again and again as I gain experience. I found "Basic Skills for the New Mediator (2d edition)" by Allan H. Goodman to provide a quicker and more practical overview. When used together, I believe both booksare a good basis for the practicing mediator.

McElhaney's Magic
Classic McElhaney -- wisdom and wit together.The best at giving smart, efficient and practical advise.i already had McElhany's Litigation -- which i review before every trial.i have recommended him to my best friends who do trials.This is more of the same.

McElhaney's Trial Notebook
McElhaney's book contains all of the guidance one needs in order to prepare for trial.From practical guidance for organizing materials to inspirational passages on the formation of the theory of the case and argument, this book has it all.I prefer it to the Mauet book.

A "must have" for any up and coming young lawyer
This book was suggested to my Advanced Trial and Evidence class in lawschool.I decided to pick up a copy to see if it would really be worthwhile for my future practice since I want to litigate.It is excellent from what I have read so far.Many of us were shown or told how to do or say certain things in pretrial and trial litigation class.This book is not only a good reminder, but it has many other practical and entertaining ideas that I'm sure to use in my future practice.A "must have!" ... liberal blather from a hippie lawyer
Mr. Feige has written a book with some amusing stories but the overall liberal bias renders it more a polemic. Every story is distorted by omission of facts and his unrelenting bitterness. For example Mr. Feige writes how cars with tinted windows are given 5 tickets, one for each window. He doesn't say that tinted cars are the prefered hit vehicles for drive by shootings and drug deals. If the police can get a tinted vehicle off the streets by amplifying the violation by 5, more power to them. He also writes about dog violations as though the police were using them to harass helpless pet owners. He doesn't say that these are not the cute poodles you might find on 72nd St. These are vicious 150 lb pit bulls that are used to terrorise neighbors and clear a path on the sidewalk. Finally, there are the ad hominem attacks naming specific jurists without any attempt to provide a balanced view. At one point, Mr. Feige names a judge and states, "He got the job by handing $38,000 in cash to a politician". Where are the facts to back up this accusation? More than anything else, the emptyness and bitterness of Mr. Feige's life shines through. He never mentions a wife, children, or any outside of work activities other than drinking.

Blow-by-blow account of one hectic day is eye-opening and revealing.
INDEFENSIBLE: ONE LAWYER'S JOURNEY INTO THE INFERNO OF AMERICAN JUSTICE provides a description of an ordinary day in the life of a South Bronx public defender: a day which encounters murders, annoying fellow lawyers, and vindictive judges. Feige has been a public defender for nearly fifteen years: his blow-by-blow account of one hectic day is eye-opening and revealing.
A glimpse into an impossible system
Mr. Feige's journey into the day in the life of a Public Defender in the Bronx is funny and infuriating.Little gets done (aside from injury).His world is one where the compassionate are blocked from those in need by a pretty brutal, heartless, and racist beurocracy clothed in a robe.He fights a lot.Sometimes he wins.Mostly, it is a study of a system in need.Mr. Feige does a great job of showing a system in great need of repair.

Synchronicity???
Is this book, a worthwhile read, an attempt to close the book on shady goings-on in Woburn of the 1960s?Were some children in this case treated for leukemia using cutting edge techniques of the day,such as bone marrow transplants, and some of those children survived only to be tormented because of their unexpected survival?
Just a an ending, not a beginning!
This is a necessary book which does a public service by highlighting the repercussions of poor environmental stewardship. It does not, however, indicate the extent of a broader mystery behind the events in Woburn and Middlesex county itself, respectively.

Insanely detailed.The author shadowed Mr. Schlichtmann throughout the entire course of the case, giving the reader unprecedented insight into what goes on behind the scenes during litigation.I can see why law classes use the book.A must read for anyone going into law school. ... Read more

Outstanding resource for the forensic architectural engineer
Robert Day does a fine job of addressing the many modes of foundation failure in a clear and articulate manner.Of special help to the engineer are the numerous case studies presented, and the step-by-step procedures to follow after a failure has occurred - from preliminary investigation and documentation to litigation and expert witness testimony.

This textbook stinks...
This book is unorganized, out-of-date, too focused on New York City, and on every other page promotes the authors and their careers...On page 7 they are telling you how much has changed with the computer age, and the internet, and one of the authors tells you he went to grade school and they used quill pens and fountain jars...okay, I didn't need to know that.It was so annoying that by page 14, I was going to submit to them a list of improvements, but it would have been EXTENSIVE!From there on just gritted my teeth and got through it...Good luck!You'll be really tired of the references to the Trade City Bombing, and NYC in general, by the end of it! ... Excellent information for the investigator
This book was well written, and detatiled.The lessions were followed buy examples that illistrated the key points.I am now prepareing to go into narcotic's, and the authur has vast knowledge in the subjct of narcotic's.This was an execllent begining to the use of informants.The authur hasclearly set up the paramitors for the selection, preparation, and use ofinformants.The cases that are talked about in the book are from takenfrom current and historical cases, both narcotics and other crimes.Ifound this book very interesting.I have loaned it out to a fellow Officerwho has commented that it is an excellent book and he has been in narcoticsfor 7 years. ... What a dilemma......!

An absolute must read on terrorism
This is the best terrorism book on the market.It covers the basics from beginning to end.I would recommend it to anyone interested in the subject.Simply outstanding!

Author lacks credibility.
This authorlacks credibility as he cites the Gun Owners of America ... as a terrorist group - right next to Hamas (page 285, in the appendix)...such an allegation, without more to back it up borderlines on defamation. This test is used by Blue Ridge Community College (Weyers Cave, Virginia) in a counter-terrorism course. I shot this book then burned what was left
I was forced to read this book for the written portion of my Sergeant promotional exam.I have a BA in Criminal Justice and a BA in Psychology.This is the worst textbook I have ever read. The authors have so little information to impart, that they quote themselves from other chapters! After sifting through the c_ _ p in this book, I now have a clear understanding of what community policing actually is:People are too stupid to fix their own problems and are unable to rely on their elected leaders, so the police must pick up the slack.In this book, you could just as easily substitute Mail Woman, Garbage Man, or Cable TV Repairman for Police Man.As you read, you find out that you have been a terrible police officer.Further, the only way to fix yourself is to read this book and internalize its junk.Simply put, community policing is a way for your department to get federal funding.Next time someone asks you to fix a social problem, tell them that their elected local representative, home owner's association, town council, or governer is responsible for those concerns, not the police.Though, you will be glad to lock up their neighbor for kicking his dog. ... Transformative Mediation = Transcendental Meditation?
If only the world would/could operate under a theory like this!
What are you doing??????????????
This book helped me clarify just what I'm doing as a mediator. The authors show that one's worldview necessarily affects how one mediates. Unawareness of one's assumptions creates the potential to do great harm as a mediator. Our assumption that it's our job to make a settlement happen requires us to behave in a way that is neither neutral nor helpful to the parties.It's too easy to use our litigation tools (such as evaluation, analysis, and persuasion) against both parties in order to further our own agendas. By gaining clarity about what our agenda is, and about what's beyond our jurisdiction, we reduce the harm we do to the parties; and we create more opportunity for the parties to take greater responsibility. The approach described in this book supports parties as they tend to grow from weakness to strength and from selfishness to compassion. I'm grateful to the authors.
