In Love With His Own Words ...
This is a tough book to critique b/c my law school recommended it.The author writes a well organized book, but every chapter has been padded -- chapters that could have been concisely written in 20 pages drag out to sixty.Buy this book only if you have to and read it only if you must.You aren't going to learn anything definitive from these chapters and all the practicing lawyers I run into think the authors ideas are just plain silly.The best way to teach about trial advocacy is to include REAL transcripts from REAL cases, not made up stories about fire trucks and people late for work.Those work great -- on paper.Plus the book never answers the big question -- what is the author's ACTUAL TRIAL EXPERIENCE?

a terrible textbook
This book was one of the worst text books I have ever read. Many of its sources were outdated. It failed to give a complete review of the field, neglecting several important theories. It also failed to discuss even theslightest hint of research that supports or challenges the theories it doesdiscuss. Premiere text not aging gracefully

awful and outdated
I picked up this book and was shocked by the writing and research. Admittedly, this is a book based on science from ten years ago but some chapters are so bad I don't think the information was correct even then. Some chapters may be good, (fingerprints,questioned documents) but do not attempt any subject based on a real science- drug chemistry, DNA analysis, etc. As far as I can tell, these chapters were written by attorneys with no science training. They do not explain concepts very clearly I suspect because they do not really understand them. Save your money. With the current state of CSI madness there has got to be better "forensic science for attorneys/nonscientists" writing being published.

Perfect reference book
This book is a necessity for any criminal defense lawyer. This contains the information police use in their training and procedure, as well as what to expect from an expert witness. Outstanding references after each chapter on where to find additional information as well as your own experts. Not as many illustrations as previous editions, but much more up to date material such as DNA testing and the background information so any lay person can understand what the experts are doing. ... Good for the beginner who has basic knowledge of contracts
I bought this book because I have to be involved in oil and gas transaction. It is very useful to cover basic cases and theories on this business area. However, because this book presumes that they understand the basic concepts of contract laws and realty laws, the readers are required to know 101 of, say, what is the reminder or what is the fee simple absolute etc. If you are not educated in the country which takes case law system, before reading it, it would be better to skim through the outline of contracts/realty law.

Good book for mineral owners as well as students
The third edition of this book was very helpful, and also included more recent case law cites than the second edition. I would assume this it true with the fourth as well (and there have been quite a few post 1995 court cases affecting royalty payments among other things). John Lowe is a well-respected professor of oil and gas law and has written many papers as well as several books on the subject.I find his writing style easy to understand, even for a layman like myself.I also found it to be much more than a "nutshell" approach in that the explanations of complicated ideas are fairly complete in most cases. Useful and reliable

This is the most helpful study aid available for Civil Procedure!Thetext is very easy to understand and it is orgainized to follow theprogression of the law school course.The authors do an excellent job ofexplaining the development of personal jurisdiction and subject matterjurisdiction to the present day.It also does a fine job of explaining thefederal rules (and includes an index of each FRCP and where it is cited).

An excellent source for information to supplement a casebook
This is another in the long line of hornbooks from West publishing.It is an excellent source to supplement and even embellish the law of Civil Procedure contained in whichever casebook you are using.Since most CivilProcedure courses are a year long, I would strongly recommend investing inthis hornbook, it is very handy to have when outlining and preparing forfinals. ... Required Reading for Any Mediator Earning Under Six Figures
First, let me confess a bias, which after all is no more than a leaning in a particular direction. When I first started in mediation, I listened to everyone who had anything to say about the subject. It wasn't long before I learned enough to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff. Time is fleeting and one doesn't want to spend too much of it chewing on the indigestible. So when I came across a person who talked sense first time, next time and all the time, I developed a leaning in his favor. Jeff Krivis talks sense - one reason is that he has mediated several thousand major cases. Another is that he is self-reflective; he thinks about what he is doing. A third is that he has never been afraid to be innovative. I learned this in informal seminar situations, but I learned it in aces and spades when, as a lawyer, I retained Krivis as mediator. A must have for a criminal procedure class
This book is a clear and concise rendition of the law regarding criminal procedure.It includes all the cases that one would find addressed in a criminal procedure class.This book is worth its weight in gold if you area law student.It not only substituted flawlessly for my textbook (whichincidentally was written by the same two authors) but it was much easier tounderstand.The nuthsell series is one of the best outline seriesavailable in my opinion. I should point out however that the format is notthat of a traditional law outline.It reads like a book rather than like aregular bulletted outline.However I found that the narrative format madeit easy to understand the material.And unlike other outlines, this bookcan stand on its own for a quick overview of a topic rather than othertraditional outlines which require some familiarity with the subject beforethe outline makes any sense.I would reccomend this book and this seriesto anyone who needs to learn (quickly) about an area of law. ... Way overpriced
First off, this book is waayyyy overpriced.There are other good books on the market at half the cost.And there are other books that are better written, too.I was surprised at the sloppy writing of this new edition.If you are intent on buying this book, find a used copy of the last edition, which is better, or choose one of the better books out there.Don't go by ratings alone.Check out the book in your local bookstore first, just to be sure you find one that meets your needs.The information is this book can be found on the Internet on different sites, so there is no needed to shell out hard-earned dollars for this one.Find something else and you won't be sorry.
