Important ideas on the future in a wired world
As it is, I spend a lot of time thinking about systems and issues like architectures, law, policy, and even individual expectations. My 2001 book Developing Trust looked at how we can deal with the policy and technology issues that make our infrastructure trustworthy. Though I dealt with the Internet and Web specifically and showed specific examples of actual failures, some readers have suggested that the discussion was somewhat theoretical, or at the very least, blazing the way for practice instead of reflecting it. My recently-published Brute Force is very different, dealing specifically with the issue of Internet cryptography.
Regardless of its style and structure, this is a IMPORTANT book.
Lawrence Lessig is not a writer, he is a lawyer. Don't expect his book to be easy nor entertaining. However, it is the more insightful writing of its time on the subject of mass media communication and control. For me the strong points are:
Good overview for outsiders - common sense for many
The premise of Code is that the architecture of the internet and not any one country's laws controls what one can do on it.One clear evidence of architecture controlling our lives is our dependence on cars.Most American cities grew large after the car had become common.Hence they have limited transportation.Hence one is expected to own a car to live a normal life.Similarly the architecture of the internet will make certain activities much easier than others.The difference is the internet is currently being formed and we can choose what we want it to be if we act now (or in 1999 anyway).

All Around Good Introduction To Business Law
Well written book that provides a good introduction into business law principles. Outlines complex concepts with case law that makes it easy to understand. A reccomended read for the pre-law students as well as a valuable reference for business owners.

Condition of Text
The text was torn. The cover was horrible and it had so much writing in it. It was the wrong text. I typed the IBSN, why would that book show up. I was very disappointed in this purchase.

Business Law Explained for the Intelligent Layman
I was given this book for free by someone who had used it for a college course and didn't want it. I couldn't believe the person wanted to throw it away. This book tells all the basics of business law. If you don't know anything about business law, read it. It is a good book for beginners. I know I will keep it for a reference book for a long time. I am starting my own business and I refer to it all the time. Not only does the book tells just about everything you need to know about business law, it gives actual descriptions of court cases to illustrate the points of each section. high school level textbook
I suppose nobody is going to buy this book unless they have to, so there is not much point to reviewing it.My girlfriend took the course. I looked at the book and was disappointed.Paralegal classes are generally at least junior college level.Except for the cases, statutes, etc., the book is on a high school civics textbook level, sort of patronizing, as if the author expected junior college students to be dumb.It's superficial, not particularly informative, and on some points, inaccurate. I'm not impressed.

A Former Student Speaks
I read this book for a class I took from Joanne Hames, one of the authors, at the paralegal program I attend.I found the book very well- organized and practical.The subject matter not only covers all the basics, but italso equips the paralegal to succeed in today's high-tech law office. Also, the "Ethical Choices" and "Paralegals on the Job"sections in each chapter make the book quite dynamic.The authors of thisbook are experienced attorneys who know the law and are abreast ofeverything relevant to the modern paralegal.

All introductory books should be like this.
Both informative (covering the "high points" or notable and interesting aspects of law) and well-written so you can read it straight through and get a lot out of it.The best starting point I have seen forbeginning to learn about law. ... Read more

Great Book No serial number for online part
I bought this book from Amazon recently, they have been great about getting it resolved but from what we can tell after having replaced twice the serial number that they mention on the book is not included in any of the books Amazon has in stock.

A digest of rules too broad for serious instructional use.

One of the Best Business Law Texts
I have been teaching Business Law for 12 years and I practiced law as a trial attorney for about 20 years before that.During this time, I have reviewed and used many different text and without a doubt, this is thebest.Specifically, the authors make this subject of Business Lawextremely interesting through this very readable text. It uses greatexamples and cases.In many places, the authors use a light-heartedapproach in covering the subject which makes this text that much morereadable. I also find the ancillary material excellent.

Comprehensive, student friendly, written in people language.
Began using this text over two years ago.I switched from a subject solid, albeit legally intimidating test that I had used for over seven years.Immediately I saw positive results: students were reading withgreater comprehension, and their class participation increased.Recently Ihad the text customized for use in my two course sequence in business law. For Everyone Interested In Truth and Decisionmaking
This is a very unique book and entirely appropriate for nonlawyers.This is not a "law book" on scientific evidence.The authors merely use Daubert -the case that announced the Supreme Court's current approach to scientific expert testimony- as the vehicle for an extended meditation on the nature of truth.There are very few case citations, and all jargon is thoroughly explained in advance.
Belongs in every critical thinker's library
I disagree with the previous reviewer's comments that the book is largely of use to the legal professioin.I find the law case serves as a great backdrop to understanding science and judging scientific claims.Many great principles are explained in this book.

Requires a bit of grappling with math, but well worth it
Since O.J. Simpson's double homicide trial acquainted everyonewith the concepts of RFLP and PCR testing for DNA, the issue ofscience in courtroom has been on the frontburner.As Foster and Huber demonstrate, however, this issue has had a long and controversial history.Read more

Colorful but lacking in substance
This book should please those who are looking for a colorful book to keep high school students interested in what many might consider a dry subject.It covers a host of topics and issues and will lead students to think. However, it is marred by its appalling ignorance of economic analysis.The worst example is in Chapter 2 where it offers up some comments on the "idea of profit maximization".Any student who has had a principles course in economics is likely to see these comments for what they are, namely the kind of rhetoric one would expect from someone manning one of the ubiquitous anti-globalization tables at a large university. ...
