Buyer Beware!
I am willing to admit that I contributed to my disappointment by purchasing a used book instead of brand new.However, those of us familiar with the costs of legal texts I am certain will understand my motivation.The edition I received from bookseller"oilpainter13" was a 20 year old text!! 8th Edition, NOT 9th Edition as advertised by Amazon.While the references and principles cited are obviously sound (after all, they're citing law) THEY ARE CONSPICUOUSLY DATED.My two stars are for the text itself in spite of its age.Apparently Oilpainter13 takes comfort in the fact that Amazon does not have any reviewer rate the provider. ... Highly recommended
"Congress shall make no law...," but on this subject at least, the Supreme Court gets to do pretty much whatever it wants.First Amendment doctrine is notoriously serpentine and challenging.While this nutshell doesn't change that, it does explain the law in a crisp, well-organized fashion, with a good balance of case summary and explanation/analysis. The authors are concise without dumbing down the law. While there are big treatises out there for practitioners or for in-depth reference use (e.g., Smolla and Nimmer), there aren't very many First Amendment study aids out there.I think this one is the best. ... Fine for Survey Course
The previous review suggests that the casebook is not a good choice for someone wanting to focus in greater detail on patent prosecution or litigation. I imagine this is intended for use in a survey course, and think it's fine. It certainly does not teach the MPEP or prepare someone to take the patent bar, but that is not its purpose; I used the PatBar course for that. As far as patent litigation, I won't a course in that until next semester, but I believe this casebook did a nice job in surveying the important principles in litigation.

This casebook contained all the usual cases that are typical in a patent law/intellectual property casebook. Unfortunately, there should have been more content which described the patent process as well as the patent prosecution procedure in order to allow the reader to fit the case law into the appropriate scheme of things. ... AMAZING!!!
I am a Harvard law student and I went CRAZY preparing for exams.(as did everyone else) but a wise 3L gave me some advice that saved my life.Here is goes: Use Gilbert's on Prop to learn the black letter law of the cases you will be studying.Then use West Group's High Court Summaries to figure out in simpler terms your case.Read your cases.After you learn each subject, do the problems in Examples and Explanations to really apply your knowledge.At this point you may have lost sight of the forest for all the trees...Then for the week before the exam, this nutshell will become your bible.It is clear, concise, and presents difficult but very clarifying examples of applications of laws after each law you learn.It was the perfect compact tool to "bring you back into the forest."I got an A in property (am VERY proud of myself) and it was because of this book.I highly suggest you buy. ...
