A MUST HAVE
If you are an educator, you must own this book, for the good of your students, and your own legal protection.

Not as helpful as I thought
I bought this book thinking it would help me to understand what the schools know, only to find out that the Department of Education has not yet released the regulations. My district now tells me these federal regulations are what our state uses to make determinations on their own regulations. So while this book does give information about the law (and as another reviewer stated, it can be found on the Internet for free), it does not directly address federal or state regulations, since they have not yet been created. So, I found the book only marginally helpful, thus two stars for a good effort.

Excellent book.
I whole heartedly agree with the other review.This is an excellent book, because it shows what the OLD law was like vs the new law.This has helped me tremendously.Normal parents can read this and understand...you do not need a law degree to "get it."It is very user friendly. I also agree that From Emotions To Advocacy is a MUST have book for any parent in the special education system.

do NOT use this as a textbook
The very first sentence of the Prologue of this book contains a grammatical error (it should be "principles," not "principals") and I am sorry to say that things don't get much better.I purchased this book as a text for an Employment Law class and it was terrible; I quit using it halfway through the course and recommended the instructor find another text.The author seems to think he's the most credible person in the world but, as someone who is also a human resources practitioner, I can assert from experience that many of his opinions (several of which are presented as "facts") are wrong.He clearly doesn't even understand what the field of human resources IS, and in many cases I found his tone very offensive. Hodgepodge of mismatched topics
Sovereign seems to skip around often in a half-hearted effort at being comprehensive.The cases are not very recent, despite the publication date, and the book has a definite lack of flow.It is almost as if theauthor threw together several mismatched segments and forgot to edit it forcomprehension and cohesiveness.

Adequate on the law; suffers from poor editing
I have to use this book as the text for a class I teach in Employment Law (i.e., non-collective-bargaining law) to students matriculating to a Master of Science Degree in Human Resources.The text adequately surveys the law, but suffers from terrible proofing and editing; it also needs an update, because the 1994 edition obviously was not written any later than early 1993, based on the omission of certain important U.S. Supreme Court cases from 1994 and since.The book also suffers from an extremely strong pro-management tone; a more balanced approach would serve the untutored reader better.There are better books, such as the ABA Guide, which I commend to potential readers of this book. ... Good not Great
I would have given this book a five star rating, but it did not include two important SSA forms. The forms are sent to a claimant when his/her file is sent to the state office fordevelopment. These two forms are SSA-3373-BK (Function Report- Adult) and SSA-3380-BK (Function Report-Adult-Third Party). The two forms have to do with your Activities of Daily living, and when received have a 10 day return time. The forms can be found on the net, but you have to know they exist.

Variety of topics
It's a handle book that has many different topics to help your child or student.

great book
I found this book to be very helpful in working with students both individually and in groups.I used the activities for students ages K-5.Everyone enjoyed the activities, and the structure of the lessons helped me to guide discussions and have questions prepared to ask even on the busiest of days!

An excellent book for higher functioning special folks.
I found this book to be extremely helpful for my highly-functioning autistic child.It covers a vast range of situations and involves the student in thinking about solutions and coming up with their own answers.I like it so much that I'm buying one for one of his teachers as well.It is geared to higher functioning students -- others could use this as a framework and simplify things a bit, or try Carol Gray's book "The New Social Story Book" which is written much more simply and directly.It's also an excellent book, but was too simple for my needs. ... Harvard Revisionism
According to this author Communism and the Soviet Union was brought down because of one man.Although a lot of people give credit to one man the man he lists is not the one.Apparently Reagan is just a footnote in the fall of communism because he barely gets a mention in the fall of communism chapter.
Good Detail of Topics Relating to International Politics
I had to purchase this book as a second book for a class I had taken.This book helped cover many of the topics I had to study and this book did a better job of describing several topics relating to nationalism, imperialism history of international politics, foreign policies, international law and organization and human factors in international politics.I would recommend this book to anyone who is trying to learn the basics or even get more indepth details on certain topics of international politics.

A REALITY CHECK
I read the early news reports of the looting of Baghdad, and many of them were so emotionally charged. It amazed me that people who most likely haven't been to a museum in decades, could become so charged up about the looting of the Iraq Museum in Baghdad. I smelled politics and forgot about the story. Bogdanos spoke at a biblical archaeology conference I attended in Philadelphia last fall. I later bought the book on Amazon. I found it VERY helpful to get a firsthand account of things from, not the local politicians and not from columnists who did not like the war itself--but from someone who was THERE....and not just there to do his job, but also a lover of ancient civilizations. I appreciated his insights, was intrigued by his comment that "the press was duped" into reporting the loss of 170,000 pieces when that was not true, and that they never corrected their reporting. I was especially intrigued by the observation, near the book's end, that many of the "looted" artificats had obviously been moved from secure to less secure parts of the museum by someone or some group of persons who knew which keys would or would not have been needed--as if pre-arranged for the truck that someone knew would pull up and receive the loot which then went to middlemen who already had buyers throughout the world--wealthy folks who watched the news and saw the opportunity to add a rare item to their personal collections. VERY INTERESTING OBSERVATION.........It may not be the whole story, or the only story--but it certainly is quite likely to be a larger aspect of the story.

Thief of Limelight
This book started with a great deal of promise and ended with a purpose.Much of what's in between, however, disappoints.I was looking for facts and policy implications and instead I feel like I read a memoir, one that was sappy all too frequently.

Iron determination
Like some other reviewers I came across this book after seeing the movie North Country.The movie though is just good entertainment pulling at the heartstrings and very loosely based on the legal problems of single mother Lois Jenson.
A must read
A story of great courage and resolve, of working conditions beyond the pale, and the vicissitudes of the courts. Well written, in journalistic style, this is a page-turner, as well as being thoroughly researched, and factually accurate.

Class Action
This is by far one of the best books I have ever read. This is something our school kids should be required to read as well. The 2 ladies who wrote this book did an excellent job of telling Lois Jenson's real story. Her story, while tragic, needs to be told. The movie doesn't do this book justice. ... Read more

This book is exactly what the title says it is.
This book discusses what needs to be done to ensure success in the workplace. Including a hands-on working assessment; providing structure all day; one on one training. It explains what must be considered; what does, or can the person do; what do they enjoy doing; do well; what is available to work at; what behavioural problems exist; what motivates the person; what kind of support will be needed. Better than most
The Redlich hornbook is a lot shorter and easier to read, but unfortunately is last updated in 1999.Until it is current, these are the best.

Disappointed
Normally, I recommend Examples & Explanation series over any of the other commerical outlines out there. I was very disappointed with both Constitutional Law books however. The examples are unhelpful, especially when a lot of the answers depend on material you won't learn for several chapters! Some of the text is useful but much of it is the authors biased view of what cases mean or should mean. This isn't helpful if you are not taking the class from them! A Must Buy for Constitutional Law Students
This book is the best study guide for Constitutional Law that I have read. It is written in narrative form, as opposed to outline form.Theexplanations of cases are clear and concise and reflect the nuances of thelenthy cases in this area where single-paragraph statements in outlinescannot.More importantly, the authors are well regarded constitutional lawprofessors whose evaluations of the cases can be trusted to be accurate aswell as even-handed. ... A very interesting book
The author was a member of the American Prosecution staff at the International Detailed, well balanced, well written.
This is quite a long book that gives a detailed exposition of the events of the initial 21 or so cases at Nuremberg. Taylor participated at a high level. He is a distinguished author and scholar. An Insider's look at the Nuremberg Trials

Great reference for every educator and lawyer in education.
If I could have given this book 4 and a half stars I would have done so. The only complaint that I have about this tome is that many of the court cases that I am interested in are not printed in part or entirety in this book. I will have to go to the law library to get the rest of the information that I need. This book was not in my law classes, but rather in a class for school administrators. I am writing on and very interested in the legal history of education, and this was a great find for me. Not only does it give pertinent information about all educational law, but the specific references and legal issues are there for gender and race discrimination in schools, busing, special education, etc. Any teacher, researcher, or lawyer in this field cannot just pick up a book that is only on their area such as special education, because the full information is not there nor does it make sense out of context of legal history. In order to understand the reason why Congress and courts saw the need to coin a new law (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) rather than rely upon previous ammendments to other laws such as the Civil Rights Act and other education acts in the 1960's it is vital that the reader know the history and how those ammendments failed to guarantee educational rights for those with disabilities.
