If you're a whistleblower, and you are not familiar with Concepts and Procedures in Whistleblower Law by Mr. Kohn, you are at a serious disadvantage already. I had no idea what I was up against. I was getting clobbered by the system at every turn. The information in this book evens the playing field quickly.5-0 out of 5 stars S.O.S.A first hand review from a survivor :

4-0 out of 5 stars Must read
Impressive book that describes, analyzes and chronicles the Skarzysko-Kamienna Slave Labor Camp. This is a little known place with a unique structure amoung the hundreds of forgotten camps. The author also provides a unique analysis of the economics of this camp and its social structure. The translation is rough in some parts but this book is the best overall book I have read about the camps, their social structure, organization, interations of liberation movements and economics. She also provides a unique insight into why many voluntereed to enter the camp and provides much historical background and the links to other Concentration Camps including Plaszow, the camp where Oskar Schindler was associated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Appropriate and Enjoyable
This book is a great one for reading with neurotypical children who have friends, classmates, and/or siblings on the autism spectrum. It is well written, has nice pictures, and lends itself easily to discussions.
3-0 out of 5 stars Need conclusion
Its a good book that shows some of the particular way of behavior of a kid affected whit Autism, however it doesn't get to any conclusion or way to get to the kid or understand him.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource for inclusion - it gets the kids talking
When I first read this book I was not crazy about it; I tend not to like books directed at kids that are overtly about autism because the kids automatically know that it is a "lesson" book rather than a story book. But of all the books I bought in an effort to give the regular education teacher a tool for talking with my son's typical classmates about his autism, this is the one that my typical 10 year old daughter selected. We have used it for three years and each time the teacher has said it generated an interesting and sensitive dicussion among the children (grades 1-3).Of course it takes a good teacher to lead the discussion, too, but this book has proved to be a valuable resource. ... Inside Deaf Culture; Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard University Press, 224 pages
4-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Reading
My dad picked this book up since I just underwent a Cochlear Implant. I was born with some hearing and over the years I started to lose more and more of it. And while I was growing up, there were talk about the Deaf Culture and hearing impairment. I have never been a part of the Deaf Culture. I probably never will be. At my dad's urging and recommendation, I read this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Way overpriced
First off, this book is waayyyy overpriced. There are other good books on the market at half the cost. And there are other books that are better written, too.I was surprised at the sloppy writing of this new edition. If you are intent on buying this book, find a used copy of the last edition, which is better, or choose one of the better books out there.Don't go by ratings alone.Check out the book in your local bookstore first, just to be sure you find one that meets your needs. The information is this book can be found on the Internet on different sites, so there is no needed to shell out hard-earned dollars for this one.Find something else and you won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars From a mom with a son with Tourette Syndrome
Whether you are new to the world of "special ed" or you are a seasoned veteran, attorney, Lawrence M. Siegel's book will guide you through the advocacy maze with ease. It is a valuable resource of information, including, but not limited to: an overview of special ed and the IEP process; sample IEP forms and letters; organization and planning tips; a listing of support groups, advocacy organizations and federal and state departments of education. Laws and procedures change frequently, and regulations can be different from state to state, so new editions are printed periodically. You can even take advantage of an "update service" that offers a 35% discount on any future purchases.4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview, but doesn't replace having an advocate/lawyer
This guide provides a good overview of the special education and IEP process, as well as some sample forms and letters. It also usefully collects the relevant federal statutes and regulations. But I found the descriptions of the process to be quite different from what happens here in D.C., so that ultimately its utility was somewhat limited. There is, perhaps, no solution to this -- the book can't be written for every school district in the country. So while the book is useful, in many areas you will be well served to hire a special ed consultant and/or attorney. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A must for all who study Deaf Culture
There are not a lot of resources on the history of Deaf culture but this one does the trick.Taking you from Biblical referances to present day, it is easy to read, yet thought provoking.I highly recommend it.I only give it 4 stars because, again, this is a one of a kind in its field and I hope some day there will be a more variety and a better comparison between texts.

3-0 out of 5 stars All this talk of disease...
For everyone who is interested in this book, let it first be said that I think many people interested and involved in the deaf community would find it appaling that deafness is being treated as a "sin" or and "error" in humans. While not all people may agree with me on this point, I think it is very important to watch your comments when referring to these books. While Van Cleve uses historical analysis in his work, it fails to account for any positive deaf cultured view of the situation. Those involved in this culture will tell you that deafness is not a disease or a problem, but part of a human being, and Van Cleve fails to recognize this point, and therefore fails in any attempt to empower the Deaf Community. Whether or not this was his attempt is not as important. We all must be aware of the fact that some people are happy how they are. They dont want their deafness "treated" or "cured" becuase it can't be - it is as much a part of them as your eye color.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on the cultural/socialhistory of the deaf
For a long time I have been searching for such book like this! It is excellent resources for the people, who are interested to learn American Sign Language,to become aware ofrichly deaf cultural/social history. The authors know where to find such wealthy of information, yet theirwritings are brevityalong with several examples of where the deaf peoplehave been interacted in order to preserve their cultural-linguisticconnections. I highly recommendedthis bookto the education and medicalpersonnel to see how the deaf people are evidently happy with their livingswithout being heavily corrected on their hearing loss. ... In 1957 when Jessy Park was born (called "Elly" in this book, but later identified by her mother in the sequel "Exiting Nirvana"), very little was known about autism.Elly/Jessy presented behavior that Kanner described more than a decade earlier (1943) when he first coined the term "autism."

5-0 out of 5 stars social security disability and the legal professional
Having represented many people in their appeal process for disability benefits for the past 13 years, I have found that understanding the Administration's maze of regulations is full time effort. After a careful review of this book, it is my opinion that it will provide invaluable information for a newcomer to Social Security Representation as well as otherswith more experience. Wolf and Prozcek did a very good job and find myself referring to this book several times each week,to make certain that I did not leave "a stone un-turned'.It is my understanding that Wolfe is an Administrative Law Judge(ALJ) and Mrs. Proszek was a senior staff attorney with the Office of Hearings and Appeals-SSA, which adds to the credibility of this book. They write the decisions. Therefore, they covered in the book exactly what they would expect of a representative to provide for there client during the appeal process and at a hearing. It is a prudent practice to fully develop your case before you step in the hearing room, follow the steps in the book and you will make a better impression on the ALJ andprovide your best effort for your client.I wish that I had a copy of this book 13 years ago! ... The Table of Contents of this book is nearly indentical to the "Code of Federal Regulations" issued by the Justice Department and provided free of charge to anyone who asks for it. Kaplin & Lee's "The Law of Higher Education (Third Edition)" was the required text for a graduate course, "Legal Aspects of Higher Education" and should be present on the bookshelf of any university administrator. The book's subtitle, "A Comprehensive Guide to Legal Implications of Administrative Decision Making," is wholly accurate in describing the scope and utility of this massive tome (over 1,000 pages from cover to cover).

Great for preschoolers with autism who are low to high functioning. You will come away with a least 5 new play activites here that will always work.

5-0 out of 5 stars After reading so much, finallywhat I needed
As a mother of two, I like to help my kids, in everyway posible, to grow up as wholesome happy persons. I have a 3 year old who at home is a normal kid, but at school, parties or just anywhere else she won't speak and is in a constant state of panic and anxiety. I have read so many books on anxiety and other related pathologies without finding a real way to help her. This wonderful program RDI has helped my daughter in an incredible way! She is now a happier child, communicates more with all her family and extended family. And she isstarting to make friends and interact with other children and adults just like any other kid. I am also using the program with my older daughter to help her in the building of her friendships. This book is not just for autistic kids.
