Don't Settle for Imitations
Whether you are the law student to whom the book is addressed, or just a savvy layman who needs to fill some gaps quickly, this book just may be all you'll ever need on wills, trusts, and estates.I ordered ten books to research my paper on inter vivos trusts and over half the footnotes reference Dukeminier.In each topical area, the general statutes are explained, often with ancillary explanations of tax treatment, then the authors dive into cases, explaining how the cases were argued and adjudicated.The text flows so well that you feel as though you are having a conversation with the authors.I particularly enjoyed the entertaining anecdotes drawn from pop culture.Do not let the cost of this book be a factor in your decision to purchase it; you may find yourself refering to it when you attend to your own will, trusts, and estate.

Is it over yet?
I don't want to insult Ricardo. He was unequivocally brilliant. But this book was painful to read. Granted, I am not an economist, so maybe this just wasn't for me. I found it dry and devoid of all emotion. I understand that it is intended to educate and to promote an economic theory, not to entertain, but God man, show your readers some mercy! I am a firm believer that if a book is too boring to read, the author's message will never get out, regardless of its merits.

If you live in Texas read this
I have perused several books on this topic and found this one to be much more informative about how Texas laws are very unique in regards to avoiding probate.In fact, most other books don't even mention this.It seems that for every one of these avoidance techmiques, the TX laws are very different in very specific ways and if you don't have everything done according to the letter of the TX law, you could end up with big problems.For example, only in the state of TX do you have to sign a separate written agreement with just the right language and other specifics in order for right of survivorship to actually work in avoiding probate.Not many people are aware of this and even most of the bankiing institutions are unaware.Even the big banking institutions will tell you that their methods are valid and correct when, in fact, they are not. Several cases have gone to the TX Supreme Court because of this.Don't let it happen to you.It is a huge problem.This book educates you on every issue and how it has to be handled differently indifferent states.
Worth every penny.
Get the book, read it twice and avoid the time, expense and aggravation of a probate.Having gone through a probate, I can tell you that this is something you want to avoid. wonderful read

Difficult To Understand The Main Issues
This text includes cases that involve a lot of the accounting numbers without a lot of explanation about the tax principles that were used in deriving the numbers. The best supplement I have found is the Eighth Edition Federal Income Taxation supplement by Stephen Lind and David Hudson put out by the Black Letter Series by the West Group recommended by my professor which was written by one of the authors of the casebook. ... Handbook for Managers, not investors
Although helpful and well written, the book appears more appropriate for executives or managers of operating companies that may be faced with bankruptcy prospects.A good overview of how the process unfolds, players, objectives, legal issues, and procedures is provided.Managers at a financially distressed operation typically carry a different toolbox of experience and skills, and therefore, this book would be well worth the introduction to the topic.

Very useful and convenient reference guide for restructuring bankers / distressed debt investors.Probably too generic for experienced bankruptcy attorneys.The text and examples are efficiently presented and the author does a superb job of distilling the bankruptcy code into an easy-to-read format.The chapter on valuation is nothing more than the common stuff you read in any corporate finance book.A case study and a more extensive discussion on bankruptcy term sheets and negotiation tactics would have made this book more praiseworthy. ... The most thorough and educational Roth book out there
I have read many books about IRAs as well as the pages of the IRS web page pertaining to Roth IRAs.This book is the best I have read for information on the Roth IRA.Accurate and great explanations.You can use a Roth IRA to buy a house, pay for a child's education, buy a car, really anything you like as long as you withdraw only the contributions.This book explains how to do it, and much more.The Roth is so flexible you owe yourself an investigation of the options.

Small book with a hefty price tag...
...but well worth every penny that I spent.America's Best Tax Strategies is an introduction to legitimate ways to save on taxes.As a person who is just now becoming interested in truly generating wealth, I read this book and was amazed at how easy it was to understand the concepts introduced by the author.(They should teach this stuff in high school!)I've read other tax savings books and have gotten confused. But I suggest you read this book and if you wish to follow the strategies described, go to your local expert for more details.You could save large sums of money over the course of your lifetime.

Good to see this stuff explained
I just finished reading this book. It has lots of summaries but the ones I like best involved tax-free compounding, bonds, annuities, LTC insurance, 1031 exchanges, 412i plans, CRTs, Roth IRAs, owners-only 401k, private pensions, ILITs, and all the ones on real estate.I never knew there were so many tax breaks for real estate owners. The chapters on VUL and private pensions were a little tough to follow but the rest of them were laid out well. The chapters on charitable giving should be passed out to everyone. Updated chapters are free on a website so it's all up to date.

First, I am not a lawyer, but a praticing design/ contruction professional.I have used this book for years.I find it very well written and easy to use.I have loaned it to so many lawyers when thing get tight that I don't remember all of them.I highly recommend this book for anyone who has to deal with contracts and construction.When things start to go sour, its a great resource for all parties involved.
