Realistic and Practical
This is one of the best "how to" books on management I have read in years. It captures the culture of hospitals (and health care facilities in general) very accurately and the realism lends credibility to the book. He gives authentic scenarios and tells how he and his managers dealt with them. Also, he is realistic in that he includes some tough remedies such as helping someone find opportunities outside the organization when she absolutely poisoned her departmental relationships and refused to change. If you are wanting to change the culture in your organization this book will certainly help you and give you a different perspective. And, although it will be most helpful to health care managers, it will also be applicable to managers in any setting that want to change their culture and become a better, more productive, and more satisfying place to work.

Especially useful for healthcare upper management
Quint's book was recommended by a fellow manager and I have been very pleased with his ideas.Although geared to upper management (some of his ideas work best with an organization-wide implementation) there are several things I plan to implement right away.It is difficult to find management titles so well tailored to the healthcare community; this one fits the bill nicely.

Must read for customer service businesses.

A true life horror story
A really compelling read! I could not put this book down. Before I read 'The Hot Zone' I had never really taken much interest in virology. Richard Preston writes his account very effectively in the style of a novel, but the fact that the horrors of Marburg and Ebola that he describes are actually true, gave me many sleepless nights. A frightening aspect of these filoviruses is that their source has still not been found. If only all non-fictional books were as readable as this!
Truly terrifying from the start to the end
I am someone who loves classics... so I never read this kind. But I happened to read it on my trip to east coast. I finished within 2 days. At first, I was scared, then i accept the truth... it became better. And it's so good from the start to end... So realistic, u can touch the grip of it... feel like it's happening around the corner.
Sub-par
I've been wanting to read this novel for several years now.Taking Virology during my undergraduate career only peaked my interest in reading about Ebola in a novel-style context.There's not much known about the Ebola virus, even to this day, and I was intrigued to see how Preston would incorporate this knowledge (or lackthereof) into his book.While the subject matter is extremely interesting and engaging, I will have to agree that his writing style is sub-par.I found myself skimming through whole paragraphs because of his mundane and repetitive diction and syntax.If it had been written by someone else, I think I could have immensely enjoyed this book (I'm a major science nerd, and I love reading science books).The only thing that kept me going to the finish was the fact that the entire novel was riding on the subject matter Ebola itself.The virus was what kept the novel going (I actually enjoyed all the factual paragraphs about Ebola...reminded me of the course I took in college! Haha, that, and I like seeing how factually correct Preston was).Overall, it seems like most of his facts are correct (there are a few things that I would contest, but that's besides the point), but honestly, the book was a bore...which is a shame, because it's written on such a fascinating subject.

First we start with a mistake...
Having observed the healthcare industry for the last couple of decades, I would like to point out a flaw in the author's recommendations:
the next 20 years, explained
Michael Porter, of value chain and competitive advantage fame, has taken on the US health care system.Your reviewer, who is speaking from inside the system, can guarantee that both his diagnosis and his proposed fix are bang on. In short, you bring the US healthcare system in line with other industries by making information about the outcomes of healthcare available to consumers, then letting them choose. How to get there from here takes up most of the book, and it is as brilliant and thoughtful as Porter fans have come to expect. Read this one.

Pretty Good
Yeah I was forced to read this by my boss...but it was quick and worthwhile.I am an experienced manager but I still picked up some valuable tips. This is worth while reading- short, to the point, and informative

Universally applicable!
This is one of my favorite books. It is geniusly simple, respectful and powerful. I was surprised to find out that I can easily apply the 3 principles in almost every relationship. So many people around deserve to be praised and taught a lesson and it is very important HOW you will do it because the final result can be very positive or just the opposite. It is a very valuable book which is very well written and is a fast read. I also highly recommend the other books from the One Minute Manager series because every book has a lot to offer and they will be especially helpful if you are in a business environment.

Great resource.
I thought the text was great for those who are FNP's. It was a required text for my track. However, as an ACNP, it is a little lacking for more of the acute information, but other than that it's a great resource and reference.

FNP Guidelines
This is a remarkable book that gives the FNP, whether novice or expert, the continuity that is needed for the profession.I hope this will be updated soon.I don't want to buy another one until then but mine is getting pretty dog eared!

Ok. Let us consider it realistically and professionally. Nothing to say about the book more than what all others have said. Simply great. However, enjoying a book is not, and will never be, a goal in itself. What matters is what benefit you can get out of IMPLEMENTING what is in it.

Not Just for Hospitals!
I have been a Lean Production Systems Practitioner for over twenty years and have had the privilege of learning from some of the original teachers of Lean in the United States. I have been influenced by Deming, Juran, Goldratt, Peters, Covey, Kotter, Drucker, Greenleaf, Senge and many other authors on leadership and management of change and continuous improvement and organizational learning. I first read Fred Lee's book as I began a project to implement lean systems in several hospitals. "If Disney Ran Your Hospital" ranks as one of my favorite books on not only excellence in customer service but on leadership and organizational development. Using this text for a distance learning course.Seems to provide a good introduction to the subjects of Health Services.Written on a level I can understand, not being a medical person, but a hospital support person.

Oddly parochial title ...
If this book is only about the US health service, why doesn't the title say so?There are quite a few other countries out there in the world, and almost all of them have health services!

An excellent overview
There is a very good reason this series is endorsed by the NPTA.Of the six or so books that I used to study for the exam, this was the most helpful by far.It reviews every topic on the exam, and is a great starting place to see what you need more work on.This is the book that got me a passing score on the exam, and I don't really think I can give it higher praise than that.

Great workbook
This book is a great study guide to prepare for the certification exam. The book is easy to read and it leaves out all the fluff that is in the other study books. After reading and doing the practice exams I found what my weaknesses were and was able to go back to my schoolbooks to strengthen those areas. I took the certification exam this month (March) and think I did fine; there are a lot of math questions in the exam and wish I spent more time in that area.

i had an amazing teacher for medical dosage, and he recommended this book ( the department actually assigned a different book). this book was great, it makes learning fool proof. everything is explained in full, clear detail and makes it for an easy A grade.
Excellent book!
This is the book we used for my BSN program Dosage Calculation class and I thought it was great.It starts you from the beginning (fractions, ratios, etc) and goes from there.There is no need for a teacher when using this book, it explains things very well and in a simple, easy to read/understand manner.Excellent for the beginner.

Review of Law in Medicine
Pozgar's book is organized by legal topic and cites relevant case law in all instances.It is an excellent overview of American law as it applies to the health care practitioner or organization.He has taken a topic thatit difficult to communicate and made it very enjoyable reading.Studentswill find it much easier reading than most graduate level texts.

A pretty good book for what it is...
As with all economics textbooks and the subject of economics in general, this book is a bit dry.That said however, it's quite thorough in its coverage of how consumers, producers, and insurers make decisions about health and health care.It gives explanations that are rather simple to understand and goes in depth as far as would be considered normal for a 300 level elective course.I should probably note that my instructor is one of the book's authors, so take my review how you will. ... Not a very appealing text
Chapters are disjoint at times, with no reference to similar concepts between them.Almost as if they were all written separately without any editing to tie them all together.
Health Behavior and Health Education
This book is a must have for anyone in the health education field. It presents all major health behavior theories in a clear and understandable manner, applies theories to case studies at the end of each chapter, and offers a table summary of each theory's core constructs. The book is well written and with this third edition comes more updated research information.

A Great Intro Into Health Care Finance
As stated in the preface of the book, the goal of the book, "was to create a text that introduces students to the most important principles and applications of healthcare finance..."This book was an excellent introduction into finance.Not only did it explain accounting and financial terms and theories, it uses excellent examples of real life health care situations to further the reader's understanding of the topics.This was my first time exposed to finance of any type.At the end of the book, I felt like I had a firm understanding of the basics.Excellent book for beginners.

Superb textbook
As a cardiologist, I have used many textbooks over the years. I am now a hospital's Chief Medical Officer and am enrolled in an MHA program. Dr. Gapenski's book is one of the best-written textbooks I have ever used. It clearly and consisely discusses financial concepts as they apply to healthcare. He has the ability to make the most complex concepts easily understood.

Excellent text with Case book & teaching guide available
This text is used at both the University of Florida and Wisconsin's programs for the Executive programs for the Masters in Health Administration.I just finished the course in November, 2000 - a course taught by the author.It was excellent.While it is written to meet the needs of a student with no financial background, the material can also be challenging to the CPA.
