Excellent Reference Book - For Lawyers???
I work in law not medicine.I bought Taber's because of the many personal injury cases with which I was involved.People talk about legal language - nothing compares to medical terminology.
Great staple for anyone in the medical field
Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary is all encompassing, defining the simplest to the most complex terms. To be honest, however, I rarely even open it because it came with access to their website for a 6 mo trial. Since I do most of my work (I'm still in school) on the computer, it's much easier for me to run a search than go get the book. Potential buyers: this is more of a "dictionary" than encyclopedia. You're not going to get long explanations but short definitions, otherwise it would be volumes and volumes long. One more thing: it's a very pretty book - well bound; having it on your book shelf makes you look like you actually might know what you're doing!! ... Read more

Incomparable
You've got to have a Netter's Atlas on hand.You never know when you'll need it.Even if you are well out of medical school, well cocooned in your tight little sub-specialty, you still need Netter.You never know when your elderly neighbor is going to knock on your door and ask you precisely which muscle in her back hurts when she stands up, just to pick a random example.
Can you imagine that the pictures drawn by Netter are far much clearer than what we saw during dissections?
I remembered that when we did dissections in the anatomy class throughout the anatomy classes of the 1st 2 years, one student per table (who do not want to touch the corpse) would be responsible to bring and hold the Netter for the entire lesson. Netter really helped us a lot! I have browsed many other anatomy atlas and have not yet found one that is better than Netter. Although some atlases contain real pictures, they are not as clear as that in Netter! I can say, "Netter + Moore" is the golden combination for anatomy!
Visual Learner
If "a picture could say a thousand words", this book is it.I am an LPN turned Medical Coder.The book has made Anatomy `come alive'.I struggled through 2 anatomy/physiology classes in the above 2 programs & still did not feel like I understood.If you are a visual learner, this book is a must.It does have to be supplemented with written text as others have said, I use a google search when my textbooks are not enough.To determine if this book would be helpful, think of it like this, if you put together a big entertainment center, which would you find more helpful: diagrams of where each screw, nut & bolt gets attached to what piece, OR by reading a description of each piece & the description of the piece it gets attached to.For me its diagrams, so the book for me was well worth the cost ($69 + tax at Barnes & Noble, 3rd edition, soft cover). ... AWESOME
I aced my test by over 40 points, what can I say????This book worked wonders!I read through it once and then made flashcards in the week before the test on things I did not know the first time I read through it.The author does a great job of covering everything!This is all you need to ace your test!!!

This Study Guide is Awesome...
I just the test on October 6th for the first time since graduating this year.I studied this book a week before I took the NCE and passed.Before studying this book I used audio CDs which were offered by NCE but was not all that helpful like this book.This book really helped me out and the way the information is presented in this book is really helpful when taking the actual test.

This is serious stuff. Handy Medical Guide
If a doctor gives me or someone else I know a diagnosis, I can look it up in the Manual and get a straightforward, detailed writeup about it.I always use it in conjunction with a doctor.

The Merck Manual - Medical Accuracy at Last
The Merck Manual has been in use in my psychology office for over 20 years.It is has been a wellspring of accurate albeit very technical information on every syndrome and disease that has been presented to me.It is an absolutely invaluable supplement to my psychological practice.HOWEVER....it is also a hypochondriac's nightmare, so those who obsess about their health should not buy it.For all others, it can make your visits to your doctor much more productive. Have the older version.
Used this in medical school. Excellent resource. In my time google and yahoo were not around, so this was the quick source. now that [...] is around, not as necessary, but still valuable. There is a pediatric version as well.
Great reference through the years
I have been using various iterations of Fitzpatrick throughout my 12 years of practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The organization, wealth of information, excellent photography (it really looks like what a provider sees in a person's skin!) all make it an invaluable reference. I am pleased to see the addition of more photography involving people of color, as upwards of 50% of the US population is now minority.

Great reference
My preference overall in terms of derm texts is Habif, mostly due to organization, but this one comes in a close second.Lots of great pics and simple straightforward explanations (sometimes a little too simple).Also probably a great book for laypeople with some knowledge of medical terminology. ... THE derm book
There are several excellent dermatology texts in the market, but I believe this is the one to get, due to quality of pictures and organization.If you only have money for one, get this one!

The book rules...plain and simple
I am a busy FP doc at a military base and I see a considerable amount of dermatologic complaints.I try to take care of most of it myself (since we have no dermatologist on staff) and find this book indispensable to my daily practice.I open it practically every day.For those of you who think the 'baby' Habif is enough, it's not!Trust me, I tried to scrape by with the 'baby' version for years before I bit the bullet and bought it.The sections on acne, eczema, dermatophytosis, and rosacea are outstanding.

A good basic dermatology book
Habif is a classic. The pictures are among the best any dermatology textbook can have. Perhaps only Rassner has comparable pictures. But Habif has much more ones. The texts are well written and directed to easily and quick dermatology reference, on a basic point of view. I think it is a good book for dermatology knowledge introduction. Business purchase

Single best reference I have
Being a hospital pharmacist and former pharmacy resident at a very well-known tertiary care center, I have found the DI Handbook to be the single best resource I have.There are other reference books that provide more complete information or are tailored to a specific topic, but I don't think there is a better general drug reference book that is as easy to carry as the DI Handbook.I use it daily in my practice.

Great prescription drug reference
As a pharmacist, I regard this reference as one of the best. The drug information as well as the reference charts at the end of the book are complete, yet succinct. I use this resource daily.

The Essential Portable Drug Reference
I am a clinical pharmacy specialist on an internal medicine teaching service.I have found that Lexi-Comp Drug Information is by far the most user-friendly, yet comprehensive of the portable drug references.Drugs are listed alphabetically by generic name, so there is no fumbling through indexes and listings by class when information is needed quickly, e.g., on rounds with the medical team.The topic headings under each monograph are extensive and thorough, and there are a number of useful appendices in the back of the book.There is a joke in our facility that this book is surgically attached to one hand of all the clinical pharmacists.This is the book I keep by the phone at home when I am on call, and the reference I recommend to my students to bring on teaching rounds.

Essential Atlas for Gross Anatomy
Although Netter's classic drawings are helpful in understanding the layout of human body systems, I find that this 6th Edition of Rohen is outstanding due to the excellent photography of professionally-dissected cadavers.It is much easier to identify complex structures on real cadavers in a Gross Anatomy lab using this reference; moreover, it is helpful as a tool to study when the cadaver lab is not open.Real bodies are much more difficult to analyze than idealized drawings--with this book, you can review before a laboratory excercise and have a more realistic expectation of what you are going to actually see.

Fantastic!
I'm a high school student, and I had the privilege of taking medical terminology during my sophomore year.This book was fantastic is teaching complicated topics.The flash cards are great and the outline of it is great as well.

Excellent Medical Terminology Resource
This book was an excellent resource for someone who has little medical background. Difficult concepts were made easy thanks to the included study aids. I especially liked the various memory tips that were given throughout the book. I would highly recommend this book for novices as well as experts.

Excellent Review Book!
I used this book for the first semester of medical school. It gives a quick overview of each system of the human body as well as abbreviations commonly used. It's an easy read. A perfect complement for anyone needing a quick, but thorough, medical terminology overview.

Great Book!
I am a MA student and I bought this book to do PDR's for my classes. I am able to find all the drugs that I have to look up and it is a great book in that it's easy to read and understand when looking for the Indications, Contraindications, Dosage & Forms, etc. I recommend this book!

Simple & clear
I feel like this handheld software was worth my money - as a nursing student it is useful because it explains the action, dosage, side effects, contraindications, pharmacokinetics, and nursing considerations. It is more basic and complete than some other software that I have - in this way it is helpful for my needs. However, Mobipocket is a bit clumbsy and I wish it was easier to navigate.

Easy to use
The reason I chose to purchase these drug reference books for the county jail I work for, is that the text is very easy to use.You do not have to look in the index in the back of the book if you already know the generic name of the drug.A great majority of theprescribed medications are in generic form and this text is in alphabetical order, not by drug class, which many other texts use.My correction officers as well as I are very pleased with it! It makes our jobs much easier!

As much as I need to know and a little bit more
As a student of neuropsychology, I am aware of an overlap between what I must know and what an M.D. studies at a far greater depth. This book, as previous reviewers have noted, is a good introduction for a medical student, and for a psychologist, it is a gold mine. I wish I had read it before taking the gross anatomy class.The illustrations are first rate in my opinion, and the structures, their functions, and differential diagnosis information is very helpful for my professional needs.

Ideal neuroanatomy text for med students/residents
I'm a seasoned clinical neurologist and bought this book to refresh my knowledge of neuroanatomy.To all the med students and residents out there reading this, I can assure you that virtually all of the information in the book is used by practicing neurologists on a daily basis.This is stuff you really need to know; by the time you're in my situation most of it is second nature.The author does a great job of presenting, just as the title promises, clinically oriented neuroanatomy.It goes beyond that, though, because there's also a fair number of elementary discussions of common neurological diseases, including differential diagnosis and treatment considerations.A nice learning feature are the frequent mnemonics scattered through the text, e.g. for the functions of the hypothalmus, HEAL=homeostatic, endocrine, autonomic, limbic.The illustrations are gorgeous, and the case presentations with accompanying MRI/CT are excellent.Strongly recommended. ... It's very resourceful.Just a bit heavy to carry around.I should have chosen the PDA version.

Great for review, but you will need to go deeper
Although I consider this to be one of the best handbooks for a quick superficial review, there are several other books which allow for more in depth learning while on the wards... such as The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine & of course... The Washington Manual. I would definitely carry around, or at least have handy, one of these while on the wards. If you get Pocket Med, make sure you get the new edition (2nd) as there is a new neurology section which is very nice. ... Read more

d�j� vu of the PMP exam
I had a very short time to prepare for the PMP examination. I took the decision to buy this software along with the PMP exam prep book by Rita Mulcahy. When I was taking the exam, I had a feeling of d�j� vu, thanks to this simulation software. Most of the questions in the exam were similar to the ones in this simulation software. In terms of PMP terminologies, this book's " 'benefit cost ratio' is greater than one".

Great Book for passing the PMP 2004
I reviewed this book two weeks prior to the PMP exam and passed.It is a geat refresher/translator of PMPisms for folks with extensive Project Management exprenice whom do not want to take/pay for the PMP Prep Classes.

Sigh....
Another ubiquitous book. A "must have"....i don't own one. Don't want one. Too big. People just buy it for the pictures anyway, has anyone really read the text in Zitelli's? Most people use it as an atlas to review for boards...My logic is, if you're gonna just use it for pictures, why not buy the atlas by Shah? There are other atlases out there that are less cumbersome and cheaper. Plus, do you think the pedi board people will take a picture right out of a well-known text?
Could not be better
This is the finest text a pediatrician can own for daily practice, board brush up and companion to the standard textbooks. It can fill many gaps inherent in the nature of pediatric training and is eminently relevant. If the authors never pen another things, they can be forever proud of this work. Brava.

Must-Have for anyone in Peds
This is undoubtedly a must-have reference for anyone in pediatrics.This has a great collection of color images & is well-organized.The new edition is definitely weightier, but there is more text & more diagrams.Considering the cost, it's probably not worth getting the new edition if you already have the older one.However, if you're buying, buy the new one. ...
