Offensive, 'blame the victim' tripe
So ... I now learn that the infertility problems I had for many years, which I always thought were due to polycystic ovaries and failure to ovulate were ACTUALLY due to the fact that I hate my husband, didn't want to have children with him or was simply ambivilent about motherhood.

Bias Was Off-Putting
Dr. Northrup provides women with practical information about their bodies, stages of life and medical procedures.However, I was appalled by her bias against Western cultural heritage and Christianity.Her views on those topics were extremely unbalanced, with no acknowledgement of their positive contributions to culture and women.As a Catholic whose best teachers were strong-minded, compassionate religious sisters, I felt offended by her slur against nuns.I am aware that not everyone feels the same way about their religious upbringing, but I would expect an academic to strive for some balance in their research. ... Not what I expected
I'd seen this book referenced too many times to count, but never picked it up until recently. However, I was disappointed with it in comparison to Ridley's others (Agile Gene, and Genome). Although he seems to dazzle people with evolutionary psychology (Just as Miller does in The Mating Mind, Wright does in Moral Animal, and Buss does in his books), Ridley falls into the same Evo Psyche troubles as the others listed above do.
Dang it Ridley, you ruined everything!
Ok this book is awesome. However, whenever I see an attractive girl, I no longer think "wow, she is gorgeous". Now I think "hmm, the only reason i think she has great legs, a nice booty and pretty face is because my genes are programed to like that." Although, I will admit that it is REALLY interesting to know why certain traits are considered attractive and how evolution shaped our idea of beauty.

Most useful gynecologic surgery textbook on the earth

Helped me pass the OB/GYN section.
All told it was well worth the money. The cd aspect of it was great , it was the best way for me to learn. That said I was dissapointed that the questions were exactly the same ones as in the book - I really had thought when I bought it I would be getting more of a database to chose from , much like the ARDMS. There was a question asking if the uterus pictured was antiverted, retroverted, etc. and it was a picture of the liver and rt. kidney. But again , it helped me and was a good addition to the (I agree) big yellow waste of money. How was the Abdomen part of it? Don't know , don't care right now either , you only need one specialty and the P&I to be regestered. Good luck to you all on this most difficult of endeavors.

A Great Resource
Ths book is a great resouce for every woman. I thought I was well educated in this area, but there was a lot in here I didn't know. It's very easy to read and well documented. A must read whether you're healthy or having V health problems.

Indespensable
This is without a doubt the most informative and insightful piece of work ever written on the subject. My best description is that it is the most definitive owner's manual on the vulva and vagina ever published. An indispensable reference that should be provided by all parents to their daughters.

Great book to explain V issues
OK, This is a very private thing for most women - so when you hear your Dr say you have something and you just dont feel like surfing the internet in the hopes of getting comprehensive information and not a lot of blogs and trying to figure out if the person is qualified to write that stuff - well dont waste your time and just get this book.It's long but in reality you can go through it in a night or two because you will know what you are looking for but you can be assured that it will be there for any other issues.It's comprehensive, pictures to help with the understanding of terms, treatment options, etc.I am not going to be into specifics.Just know that you will NOT need another book about v issues after this one (VVD, VBS, menopause, and a ton more...yeast infections, UTI, all type of other infections, bumps...just know it's in there) ... War agaisnt the weak, proves that we are no longer weak
Edwin Black writes books, that not only move you emotionally, but educate you with page turning energy. This is a book that will not only scare you and tell you about the horrors of what mankind can think of but how this type of horror can become "commonplace" in a society that goes mad. This book is relevant today as never before, as we are facing a crisis of war against the "infidels", which in its own wayis a war against the weak, or the politically correct who refuse to acknowlege that we are fighting a war of terror, under the guise of religion, and one party choosing who lives and who dies. This book is well researched, documented, and filled with facts. Bravo to Edwin Black. Now if only the State department could reead this.................

History as Pop Culture
"War Against the Weak" takes American history as a facet of pop culture. While factually based, Black undermines the historical importance of eugenics and the debate. Black, a journalist by nature, is not a historian and his book should not be taken as a solely historical text. While he does cite his evidence, Black only touches the surface of Eugenic history. Ultimately, "War Against the Weak" was written for popular reading and is an adequate basis for those with no knowledge on the subject

Horrible history - important book
Black is researched and sourced to the point his index requires its own hardcover publication. His book is somewhere between straight reporting and a cry for justice, but Black is no drama queen. This is a well documented, studiously researched and well-written journal of how American eugenics gave nod to mass murder in Europe. VBAC highly over rated!
No book is a "bible" for any type of birth experience.But A+ for validation; for any woman desiring to VBAC and wants extreme statistics to feel more at peace with her decision.

very informative book!
Its good for a change to have a book that tells the real statistics and really encourages birthing mothers to have VBAC's. Its also good as a balance to the other books that are so pro cesarean and anti VBAC's and are scary and negative. Moms have their right to be well informed! Even if some people would say this book is biased toward only VBAC and ignores 'medical' facts its allright because women are so bombarded with negative scare tactics, and everyone 'informs' us how dangerous a VBAC is, so that book will be the counter balance!

Vital For Women and Men
I had been avoiding this book for years, having seen it at the library numerous times and feeling superstitious that reading it would cause me to have a cesarean section!Also, I felt like I "knew it all" when it came to the subject of how hospital interventions lead to unnecessary cesareans.I have taught childbirth education in the past and have had two unmedicated, vaginal births in a hospital environment.Now, I am so grateful I did read it.I tried to read it fairly quickly because I was so eager for the information; yet at the same time, each page offers such a wealth of insight--it requires time and patience.The book offers so many gifts.Read more

Very informative and a great book to own
I absolutely loved this book. I initially picked it up because of the pictures in it (most of the other books I looked at just had sketches) and quickly found that I really enjoyed the format of it and the overall wealth of information.
Wish I Had Seen This Book 6 Months Ago!
What an excellent book.It is all-encompassing, and not only takes you through pregnancy in a non-biased way (giving you a broad perspective with a ob-gyn to a midwife) it gives you a look through and after child birth.The information is accurate, complete, helpful, and easy to digest.It puts all of the other pregnancy books to shame.I bought the old stand-by "What to Expect When You're Expecting" when I first found out I was pregnant and think it will work well for starting a fire in my fire pit now that I've found "I'm Pregnant!".

Pro-life readers beware.
I loved this book until I started reading the fine print.Anyone who is pro-life will not appreciate the references to termination.It is also seemingly bragged that few down syndrome babies are now born due to early diagnosis and abortion.I find this to be a sad fact rather than something to rejoice over.The book was fantastic except for those parts which took the joy completely from this book. Many pregnancy books discuss medical issues without having to suggest abortion.It ruined the book for me.I tossed it. ... Read more

Sexual Assault
This is a wonderful book for individuals who are examining patients who have been sexually assaulted. Shows normal anatomy and variations, including non-sexual injuries. As a Nurse Practitioner and a new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner I find this book to be an excellent reference. It had been recommended to me by the educational coordinator of the SANE course I took.

Jampacked full of info and knowledge about TCM and how it correlated to helping achieve a successful pregnancy
I was referred to this book by a fellow friend who like me, is trying to conceive a baby over 40.This book talks with detail about how chinese medicine works and in particularly to help "strengthen" our reproduction systems.The information is very clear and detailed and can help anyone starting to explore the benefits of TCM. It enlightens the reader because it never dismisses the Western medical community, but talks about how the Eastern methods of TCM can enhance our already traditionally accepted practice of conventional medicine. It also talks about how TCM works well alone.However, it takes diligence and specialized practitioners to fully incorporate all of this info to practice.Finding a excellent Acupuncturist or Chinese doctor seems integraland the information is amass. I felt I learned quite a bit about Chinese medicine in just one night of reading,and I was already educated in many areas.
