Political correctness has put us into this situation
Bill Gertz explains clearly the rationale for improving America's counterintelligence. He throws out all political correctness that has put us in this current situation. Gertz is a better man for exposing these problems in our intelligence community. Now they may get fixed properly. Gertz can not believe that the Intelligence community has not changed many of its tactics since 9/11. Gertz points out the lack of intelligence in Iraq before the war began. He describes the problem with bureaucracy and its blocking of new changes. Gertz in each chapter describes a spy case that has happened in the past decades. Some points that jumped out at me in the book.

Excellent book fora beginer working with young people

I give quarterly supervisor training meetings with about 10 supervisors from our division. I use the activities in this book to help build communications and teamwork with the supervisors.

Creative Ideas
I selected this book in order to complete a required communications class assignment that I am presently enrolled in. The title of the book caught my attention. I am an Assessment Coordinator and I work with approximately 10 to 20 individuals at a time with a new group every three weeks. Several of the issues that I need to address that are a major concern with our clients are covered in Alanna Jone's book. These are issues dealing with self-esteem, communication, anger management, self discovery and coping skills. As instructors and parents we often find ourselves in situations where people are resistant to learning. The many reasons for this vary.

Worst writing I've read in a long time
You decide for yourself what you think about Mortenson.I think the subtitle of the book should be "How One Man Became a Dhimmi."
Put so simply...
No doubt this story seemed like an inspiring one. The question for me was, could the writer do a good job conveying it? The answer is- yes!! There are no words to describe how this story made me feel. I was moved to tears more than once. It's about time that we had something to read or listen to that speaks to the humanity of the majority of Muslims. Until now it seemed like we were given no option but to lump them all into the "fanatic" category. There was no one to speak up for the rest of the population. The story of the poor village women of Pakistan giving eggs to Greg to honor 9/11 widows was heart-wrenching. The speech by a supreme Shia ruler to a local village after 9/11 was equally gut-wrenching. Thank you to Greg Mortenson for shining a light on the region. His work building schools by working WITH tribal people of Afghanistan and Pakistan is incredibly brave. The effort taken to learn the local languages and customs is phenomenal. Thank you David Oliver Relin for bringing the story to us and for providing so much background information to help round out the story! This book helped fill so many holes in my understanding of the region. What the heck are the Taliban? Why can't Islamabad just take control of its northern region? What drives many people to choose death via "jihad" over life? I am inspired to read and understand even more about the fascinating people of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Is America more secure than on 9/11?
Besides being an exciting and courageous mission story, Three Cups of Tea is an effective alternative to Bush's so-called "compassionate conservatism" and "war on terror".

This is one of those big biographies that I wanted to spend a bit more time with because of the way the life that is the subject of the book connects with the age in which he lived, how the generations before conditioned his opportunities and how the way he lived and affected his times echoed into the next generation.Andrew Mellon is an enigmatic character that has great complexities and yet at the same time seems to be not fully realized in his personal life.At his economic zenith, he paid more personal taxes than all but two men. While never nearly as rich as Carnegie or the senior Rockefeller, he was still amazingly wealthy.

Not one of Womack's best works
I personally do a vast amount of reading with lean enterprise being of special interest. Womack has done some great work, but this is a "tough read" even for serious lean enthusiasts. I typically finish a book of this length within 2-3 days then re-read it and highlight. It literally took me 11 weeks because I was lulled to a point in which reading further would be of no benefit and would have to put it back on the shelf and revisit it days later. I realize that scholarly and business writing is not especially exciting as I am constantly reading and doing research but this one was tough even for me, an avid reader.

Common Sense isn't so Common
This book provides a very unique perspective on how to run a business.These methodologies can be applied to any industry, as the authors suggest.
LEAN as it expands
After reading "The machine that saved the world" (which I recommend reading before this one) from the same great authors, I got more and more interested in the LEAN concept. As described in this book, by 1996, LEAN became a way of thinking and operating, expanding around the world in several industries. Although this book gives a clear explanation of LEAN principles, it is still oriented into manufacturing. This book is not enough if you are willing to implement LEAN in your organization, but rather convinces you of applying it if you are still hesitating. Indespensible boat manual
I'm not talking about yachting type books. I have owned and operated commercial fishing boats in Alaska, for over 30 years.And this book demystifies bonding, grounding, AC boat wiring, lightning protection, a whole chapter just on batteries, and that's just the electrical part of the book. If your unsure about some aspect of your boat's electrical system or machinery, and are walking the docks trying to find out something about them, GET THIS BOOK. Some of that BS one hears on the dock can sink you.

covers many important areas where problems usually arise. easily understood explanations and instructions to find and resolve problems. great resource to keep on the boat.

Is Darwinism bad for the environment?
On one level this is an eloquent plea for an environmental awakening sounding the alarm on the destruction of species diversity. But this clarion call is marred by the introduction of Wilson's Darwinian obsessions. The age of environmental exploitation has also been the age of the reign of the false theoretical constructs of Darwin and his misleading and socially destructive theory of natural selection. The book even includes a hectoring section about the laws of biology, which is bad science and concealed propaganda. Wilson should know better. Biologists fancy themselves the sages of nature, but in fact the reductionist positivism of their methodology constitutes a misunderstanding of nature and reflects the concealed ideology of classical liberalism that is responsible for the indifferent ravaging of natural resources and environments. So behind the fine words Wilson is really a spokesman and ideologist for the problem, not the solution.

Inspiring Must Read!!!!
What I Know for Sure is that Tavis Smiley's testimony and transparency through this book was a refreshing read.He is a prolific speaker and a voice for this generation. I applaud him for allowing us to share intimately into his life. I was deeply moved by his honesty in retelling the experiences that shaped the man we now see today. The candidness expressed in each chapter allowed us to witness the forces that birth his purpose and propelled his drive, ambition, and advocacy. His love for people was greatly evident. This book is a must read not just for African-Americans but for anyone who has faced adversity, challenges and trying circumstances in life.Greatly inspiring!

Technical Analysis Made Easy
This is an easy guide to technical analysis of the markets. It could be compared to the Edwards and Magee book on technical analysis. It has lots of illustrations showing many examples of all the items that are covered in this book and there are a lot.

Little more than a collection of anecdotes
Intrigued by the relative frequency of citation of this book in the new "web 2.0" universe, I was disappointed to find only a sequence of factoids on social experiments and little in the way of analysis.From the very beginning of the book the reader is invited to agree with the central thesis (that a crowd of independent individuals does better than a smaller elite group) and it very much feels like evidence is carefully selected to reinforce the author's argument.The book could have been twice as thin without losing much of its substance.I would qualify it as a light business read, entertaining but not quite convincing if you're not part of the choir.

Great book on human behavior!
If you want to know more about the importance of shedding all political alliegences and affiliations, read this book. What a wonderful body of knowledge with just the right stories to highlight the profound insights into the recesses of our heart.

Why do the Crowds buy this book if they are so Wise?

Great Book
I used this text in my MBA stats class and have found it to be very informative and useful.I found the examples for Excel and Minitab to be well written and of great use.I would recommend this book for anyone who uses statistics on a frequent basis or simply would like a good reference manual in their library.

12th ed. has problems
The 12th edition of this book contains a surprising number of errors.I am currently using this book for a statistics course in an MBA program.We are twelve chapters into the book now and in most every chapter I have found a mistake; more often than not there are multiple mistakes.What is worse is that the majority of the mistakes are in the practice problems which are where the student learns to apply the skills.This serves to create confusion and frustration on the student's part.Some of the mistakes are sloppy editing while others more significant are providing wrong information.The editors need to take another look at this book and the authors should also take note.

Interracial relationship data in book is biased
I study close relationships of all kinds regardless of race. I have noticed something troubling about books such as yours. I have noticed many texts are off base or one sided when discussing heterogamous or "interracial" relationships involving black men. Rather than present a balanced picture of heterogamous relationships within the black community, the authors of this text deliberately took a stance which casts a negative shadow on black men in heterogamous relationships even going so far as to quote an article in a popular magazine as a source. This is a text book. There's no room for unsupported opinions from popular media. All arguments should be fairly presented and documented with a diversity of academic sources because you're influencing the minds of students who are relying upon your "expertise."

Criminal Law
I thought this book was very useful in the study of Criminal Law at the undergraduate level. I enjoyed the author's selection of cases and thought that they were edited well so that they remained readable.

Excellent Text
As one of Professor Samaha's students, I found that using this particular text in corrolation with his lectures was extremely benefical in learning the basics of criminal law.His personal insight on the case studies undoubtedly aided in understanding the material, but I suspect that the text would not have stuck me as such an outstanding book had Professor Samaha not been there to add additional information on each aspect of his work.However, even without the personal commentary, the text is still a very clear and concise resource that would be excellent for an introductory course on criminal law. ... A Tongue -in-Cheek look at a Serious Subject
Horsefeathers, Hogwash, Balderdash do not carry the same weight as the title.Franfurt looks at the the subject and tries to explain what we mean by this term.It is both a serious look at the subject and at the same time it is tongue-in-cheek.Frankfurt explains the words place in our society and it is very funny the entire time without reaching to be funny.We all know what the word means without having it explained and yet, trying to explain it is very hard.Frankfurt explains the place this word has in society and why the other words don't quite measure up.The book is both a philosophical and comedic read.Frankfurt tells the reader this up front without ever explaining it outright.It is both very short and easy to read.One sitting, but it is very profound and that is the mark of a great book.Highly Reccommended.

A tremendously artful (if very short) book, this is a republishing of a paper written in 1986. It not only is about BS, it is BS itself. It not only describes but exemplifies.

Excellent Teacher's Reference Book
A great book to help set up your class for "reading stations".

This book is very useful in setting up my Guided Reading program.It was one of the best books that I purchased for this program.It is geared more toward the actually usage of materials than to simply theory.I needed suggestions for actual activities rather simply theory.I would recommend this book to any teacher that is starting a Guided Reading program.

This book is a course requirement; otherwise it would not have been purchased.In my opinion this is unquestionably the worst textbook I have every read.I have read a lot of textbooks, over 60 boxes worth, both as a student and a professor.Some have been a good read, others not.In all of them I have found at least something worthwhile.Not this time.

Straight from the Founder
If you are interested in microfinance, this book is a prerequisite.Dr. Yunus gives a historical account of the rise of micro-credit and the Grameen Bank.Of course, he is also the biggest advocate of the program.Therefore, most of his arguments are pro-expansion of micro-credit.In spite of this, he manages to show a clear and compelling picture of the micro-finance industry.But, make sure you balance the information with other microfinance books that does not proselytize as much.A good example is "Beyond Micro-Credit" by Thomas Fisher.
Great book!
Yunus tells a great story about his bank and its battle against poverty.Outstanding business model for someone interested in micro lending.
