Well Done, Just not Sure about the concept
I'm of two minds about this title-- on the one hand, it's a quality product, well written and organized.
Should have been 2 different books
"Accelerated Learning Techniques" is a fantastic book about the different learning styles people have and specific techniques to cater to your own "learning style".Author Colin Rose gives a workflow style technique for accelerated learning, plus several techniques for each learning style.
Some Strategies Just Repackaged
Loads of hype and salespitch!The methods described in this book are fairly flexible, but they are so hyped up that it is not easy to cope with the dissapointment after the hype.The only good part of their story is the "search for meaning" section of the MASTER learning method that goes some way to promoting thinking before memory.

THE ADULT STUDENT'S GUIDE TO SURVIVAL & SUCCESS
The Adult Student's Guide to Survival & Success is more helpful than I imagined a student success book could be! This year I started taking college courses to get a degree in nursing. It's been (15) years since I left high school. I was afraid I might fail in college, but this book showed me how to succeed. Because of it, not only am I passing my courses, I`m getting straight A's!
Disappointing
I was expecting something a little more substantial, like actual suggestions on how to make it in college with my 3 young kids, but what I got was at best, rudimentary advice on how to apply for a loan. I would recommend another book instead.

Surprisingly Useful
A surprisingly useful and insightful guide.My first response was that a style guide for email was oxymoronic; and that, I guess, is exactly the author's point.Email is thought to be exempt from the rules of clear communication; but of course, its not.The more concise, and clear, your message is, the more likely you will get a satisfactory response.I consider myself a veteran, long-time, high-volume, email user (Investment Banker: 80+ emails / day) - yet I found much here that I had not thought about before: unique ways to highlight key points, appropriateness of style, effective formatting, etc..Includes time saving tips, strategies for managing email, and the obligatory reminders of the permanence of email, and the common pitfalls of casual usage in corporate settings.Highly recommended.

Useful Training Resource
Helping people learn to write clearly, efficiently, and effectively is an ongoing process.This book is exactly the kind of resource I'm always looking for. It's comprehensive, yet very easy to use.The information is accurate and addresses all the issues that continually come up when people use e-mail to communicate (which is much of the time).The questions and suggested activities make the book ideal for individual learning, team study programs, and workshops.And the checklists, which can be downloaded from the publisher's Web site, [...], make great handouts to reinforce training. The Best Book on E-Mail Style and Etiquette
As the author of an English reference guide/workbook, I think this book is exceptionally helpful to everyone needing to send out professional e-mails. E-mail has just about replaced informal memos and even reports. Therefore, we all need to learn how to convey the right tone, present a professional image, get our messages across clearly, learn the etiquette of e-mail, and avoid the pitfalls and hazards that e-mail technology poses. The author provides excellent, relevant examples and lays the material out in a logical, easy-to-understand fashion. I highly recommend it to individuals, HR departments, and training professionals.

Very good, with one potential problem
I've been using this with my daughter, who has struggled with other programs and she is making very good progress. Everything is broken down into managable chunks.
Worked Fairly Well for My Family
I am a homeschool mom of four kids. I started my oldest two sons at around age 5 to 5 1/2. While it isn't the most thrilling program out there it is very simple. I mostly skipped teaching them their alphabet and taught them their letters one at a time using PP. (They were already familiar with the idea of letters making unique sounds but hadn't put the ideas all together yet.) It starts with teaching the short vowel sounds first, then most of the consonants and on from there. I was able to work with each child for about 10 minutes a day for 3-5 days a week. Within a couple of weeks they had picked up on a bit and soon were reading small words.
Not a professional but found this greatly informative and helpful
I am not a teacher, nor degreed in education.I found this book exhaustive and thorough. It provided more information than I knew existed and my grandson (8years) has used the information to his benefit.It reguires systematic and committed use to master its contents. Review of Teaching and Learning at a Distance
This is an excellent book. The authors know their business. The writing is clear and easy to follow. I particularly like the pratical information provided by the authors and their examples. There is also a chapter on copyright and applications. The book covers a brief history of Distance Ed which shows how this educational platform has grown.
A good introduction
I use this book as my text in The Foundations of Distance Education and Training course I teach at the University of Phoenix. It has recently been updated and in the past 4 years of teaching this class, not a single student has complained about the book (somewhat unusual).

Great Life Skills Training
This is a great motivational book for someone on the verge of entering into adulthood.Dr. Baker pinpoints specific skills needed for a variety of "life situations" by catagorizing them and dealing with them individually.It starts out with mapping out assets and challenges. There are activity pages to use when anger is an issue and suggestions on calming ones self.The book includes a 16 page section on dating.It offers great advice for job seekers, from writing resumes to handling rejection.These are only a few of the sections found in this book.It truly is indispensable for anyone with Autism or Asperger's Syndrome.I definitely recommend this one.

Great book on social skills
"Preparing for Life" was a terrific book. If someone you know has Autism/Asperger's and is getting ready for any major transitions in life, this book is highly recommended.It comes with worksheets and very helpful activities to help one reach their goals and be more confident with who they are.It is a highly motivational book in that it helps an individual not to be afraid to try new things and gives much needed assistance in dealing with real-life circumstances that might be challenging.

Better information than I expected
Ok, so this book wasn't a life changer; but it did in providing me with useful information.The book begins by warning you that it can be easily dated, because programs come and go.I think as long as you maintain that reference, a lot of information can be gathered.

Re-title this book!
This book should have been titled "You're Certifiable....Job Opportunities IF YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA".I thought it was a fabulous book, but truly, it's not much use if you don't live on the West Coast.

For someone looking for a personally fulfilling career
I bought this book for the 21 year old daughter of a friend. She had dropped out of college, complaining that nothing there really interested her. I discovered this book while browsing amazon.com, ordered it, anddecided it was perfect for her. After she looked through it, she decided toapply for a school that taught animal massage (she's been crazy aboutanimals since she was a child). A Big Help
For a guy who graduated from high school in 1980, and trying to pass a GED exam, it can be pretty humbling. I bought this book not expecting much help, but it has been a BIG help. I re-took the GED test, and it all seemed so easy the second time around. I finished the 2 hour test in 1 hour & 25 minutes, feeling really confident and with a good feeling. I'll find out soon if I passed, so wish me luck! But again, the book is very helpful, especially with geometry and algebra. It goes in depth a bit much, but it doesn't hurt to know too much, anyway. The English (reading and grammar) was difficult for me to understand. I had to read it twice in a lot of the lessons. Thoroughly adequate, though. Is this book worth it? I think so.

Not comprehensive in any way
This book was assigned for a class in Adult Education, and was painfully inappropriate as a text. Merriam does not bother to explain many of the fundamental and seminal theories in Adult Education, and when she does, she spends twice the time explaining the critiques of these theories than she does the theories themselves. Many of the critiques are either unjustified or based on a misunderstanding or misapplication of the theory, as well
