great meditation tape
I find listening to this tape over and over and over like a music tape, I am getting into Dogen's mind a little, and it is actually starting to make sense!!!! Egads, I should check myself in! A Well Presented Theory
I'm a big fan of ancient history. I remember when I went to a university open day toward the end of high school. I wandered over to the archaeology wing, and in a glass case they had a genuine Sumerian cuneiform, one of the oldest pieces of writing in known history. It was only a little one, but I remember being mesmerized by it. I'm also a big fan of alternative histories, because I do have a feeling there is more to prehistory than there appears, and have read quite a few of the "essential" reads.
Amazing Book
This was a serious and thought provoking look into facts that modern science wants no light shed on. Modern geography, anthropology, and especially Egyptology are turned completely on there heads by the undisputable evidence put forth in this book.
He did it again !
After Fingerprints of the Gods, I read Supernatural, Then reread Andrew Collins, From the Ashes of Angels, I would like to see these authors cowrite a book, because I have a feeling that now we are really getting close to the truth on Earths past history. Maybe the animal headed gods of egypt and other places were seen by the shamans, and reported on when they returned from thier Astral Journeys. Great public speaking in one easy lesson?
In a single short cassette, containing the bare essence of the book, Roger Ailes distills the advice he has given countless politicians and business people about communicating. His advice is not terribly complex: be yourself, be interesting, be likable. The book title tells it all: you -- the totality of who you are, speech, gestures,tone, persona -- is as important to the mesasge you convey as the words you utter. The book makes perfect sense. But the problem is that speakers often don't know what it is about theiemselves that makes their speech unpersuasive. That's why folks like Ailes are in buisiness, to provide the objective feedback that breaks through the curtain of self-denial that many of us weave around ourselves.
Great Book
The book is very well written and the content are absolutely useful. A must-have to strengthen your communication and leadership skills.

I read this book very carefully, particularly the section on talking to the media, and I took every word to heart.I made sure when I went home to greet the throng of reporters waiting for me at my apartment (after I returned home from my temporary Accountant position) that I would take control of the situation and not let the news media bully me around.I immediately addressed the first reporter, simultaneously addressing the question and taking control of the situation by firmly stating "our performance has been stellar, our revenues have increased markedly and so has our marketshare, making our company an even more attractive target for institutional investors..."

Engrossing - Historical Fiction at its Best!
I absolutely loved this novel. As a historical fiction "junkie," its a rare treat to come across a book like this. Spanning almost 1800 years, Rutherfurd gripping creates and traces 3 familial lineages through a history few in the west have encountered to any depth. Characterizations are completely human, and exhibit real complexities in terms of strength, religious devotion, struggle, cruelty, sin, and redemption. This is Russian and Ukrainian history as seen through the lives of ordinary people.
Very disappointing
I live and work in Russia, among the Russians, speaking Russian.This book came highly recommended to me by an expat colleague of mine. I have a rule (and never came closer to breaking it as I did during my many attempts to read this book) that I always finish every book I start. At my breaking point, I logged onto this website to read the reviews which encouraged me to read to the bitter end. Suffice to say that almost 4 months after starting the book I eventually turned the final page yesterday and could only sigh in absolute disappointment.
Not Quite Sarum, But Close
I read this shortly after I read Michner's Poland and recommend that. There is a lot of cross over which helped the understanding of both books.

"Que Sera Sera"
I checked this out of the library and read it on the way to Australia to visit my daughter during her study abroad semester in Brisbane. She read it while we sailed the Whitsundays and dove on the Great Barrier Reef - well, not when we we actually in the water. Before whe started reading it, in conversations I regularly sited Bryson having commented on many of our topics, by saying something, "Just like in the book," or, "Bryson talks about that in the book." A little like Seinfeld having done so many topics, that we live parts of them in our daily lives. Anyway, we left the book on a plane. So, I'll buy a copy for the library and one for me - money well spent. It was a great introduction and punctuated much of the trip. A bus driver in Brisbane was actually whistling "Que Sera Sera," which,I think, was mentioned in the book. I'll find out when I read it again. I'd read Bryson's Sort History of Nearly Everything a couple of years ago. It's also a good read.

Audio CD review: His prose is annoying when spoken aloud
You get your money's worth here--there are a ton of CDs in this audio book. Unfortunately, I found Bryson's prose (which I enjoyed a lot when reading silently, as I have done with his other books) to be greatly irritating when spoken aloud. To me, he sounds kind of 'affected' in parts, and sometimes there is a sort of "moist" sound when he pronounces words. Hard to describe until you hear the CD, but trust me on this one. I think a lot of the positive reviews on here are for the book, and not the CD. I would stick with the written word on this one.

Why I read it twice...a review in two parts.
I took this book with me on a recent trip to Central America and absolutely loved it.While there is less narrative flow than, say, A Walk in the Woods, reading Bryson's thoughts on Sydney harbor, Australian-rules football, former Prime Minister Harold Holt (peace be upon him), forever walking through Canberra, and his near run-in's with a seemingly endless list of nasty (and apparently deadly) native animals was engaging and thoroughly enjoyable.He does this all the while encountering some pretty terrific and endearing folks, drinking many Victorian Bitters, and relaying an impressive and affectionate recounting of Australian history.There really is a lot to like here.So much so that upon finishing the book while still in Central America, and realizing that I committed the unpardonable sin of only bringing one book with me to read (you try finding a decent bookstore in Central America), I turned to the first chapter and started all over again.And it was equally engrossing, witty, and informative if not more-so.I can think of no higher compliment for a book and I recommend it whole-heartedly. ... Flawed Tone, but Solid, Livable Strategies
I first read How to Want What You Have many years ago, and I remember being incredibly excited by it. Miller's advice for practicing compassion, attention, and gratitude has stuck with me since. Upon re-reading it, however, I noticed a subtle dogmatic preference for Cognitive Therapy that turned me off just a little. Don't get me wrong, I have loved and used Cognitive Therapy in my own life ever since I discovered it in David D. Burns' Feeling Good. But I've also found other methodologies like Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Behavior Therapy, and Positive Psychology to be scientifically rigorous and just as effective. Whether a function of bias or simply the fact that a lot of progress has been made in these other areas in the 10 years since its publication, Miller's book seems to rely too strongly on Cognitive Therapy-at the seeming exclusion of other strategies.
Practical advise for the hectic modern world we live in
this is some very basic insight to living a simple, content, fullfilling life -- Miller points out, in humorous, interesting ways, the things we already know to be true, but in our haste to live up to marketing hype that surrounds us, we forget.

More of an ad blitz than a teach yourself rapid reading.
Picked this book up with an interest in increasing my reading speed, but was disappointed when the book turned out to be one big ad for the Evelyn Wood Speed Reading Courses.Most of the book was devoted to informing the reader how fast and efficiently they could study, and how successful their courses are.There was very little instruction and what was there was vague.The book ended up being of negligible help to my reading speed.

Read over and over until you get it.
Every junior high, high school, and college student should read this book. It takes lots of practice to learn how to do it proficiently but once you've got it figured out you'll love how fast you can read and how well you can retain the information.

George Stephanopoulos' version of CYA
First, my standard disclaimer: I am a political moderate and social conservative. This book is an average look at what happens in political inner circles, specifically the Clinton white house. I was a little disappointed that Stephanopoulos did not take more risks to write about subjects that the general public did not already know. It seemed that much of the reason for the book was for the author to exonerate himself from any wrongdoing.

St. George And The Dragon
George Stephanopoulos' memoir of working in the White House during Bill Clinton's first term in office makes you feel like a fly on the wall of the Oval Office. Written in that hypersmart, jargon-fluent style familiar to "West Wing" viewers, "All Too Human" is an engaging, candid companion to readers of any political stripe, in part an impassioned defense of one of America's most infuriatingly bipolar personalities, in part a cautionary tale of power trumping principle.
MY political education
The subtitle of this wonderful memoir taught me more about politics in 400 pages than I'd learned in 40 years. A diehard liberal and a political fanatic, someone whose views would normally make me sneer and scoff, Stephanopolous paints a picture of the stresses, ins-and-outs, spin, activities and the vital scope of the world inside the Oval Office. Inside of the White House
Another Bob Woodward book, another masterpiece. I am getting great pleasure from his books. Detailed research, witnesses, and main character interviews are combined to revealed truth with every respect. In Shadows, he discovers the last five presidents scandals and events around them. Book starts with Ford, Nixon and Watergate, This is the most interesting chapter of the book, and it is explained with every detail. Secondly, Carter and payment made to Jordan King and Iran Hostage crisis. You can feel Carter's pain in this chapter. After that, of course Reagan andIran-Contra weapon sale and Oliver North incident. This chapter is also very interesting. The role Regan and Senior Bush is much different than public knows. Senior Bush's role is very controversial. There are always something learn from his books. When Senior Bush was at the White House, subject is the war again. First gulf war and Saddam stories given. There is also little bit information about Bush-Saudi relations in that time. Inevitable, Mr. Bandar's name is also here. Finally, Clinton era, Whitewater and Monica. This is also very big chapter. In Whitewater investigation is explained very well. Also Monica scandal is the fun part of the book. Star and Clinton have not a bad relation as we know.
The effect the Independent Counsel had on the Presidency
I think this is a pretty good book on the Presidency of the United States since Watergate.Of course, Mr. Woodward played a significant role in reporting Watergate and has written extensively about the Presidency since then. Interesting, disturbing look at the presidency

Inspiring
I love Christiane Northrup's holistic view of our bodies, minds and spirits.As someone who has felt alone and crazy at 47, I am grateful to feel validated and reassured. Not all things in the book apply to me at this time, but were very interesting and I am glad to learn new information about what is coming. This book is great for anyone who is ready to believe in the power they have to manage thier own health.

Warning
Do not buy this book unless you have a very high tolerance for new age gibberish.There is factual information here, but it is buried in gushy self-absorption.I bought it for psychotherapy patients who are going through menopause, but I'd be embarrassed to lend it out.

Not far enough
The Wisdom of Menopause provides an accurate description of what happens to a woman's body during and after ovarian failure (menopause). This book describes in detail the negative effects of menopause (ovarian failure) while still describing it as a natural and normal process to embrace. I don't believe we should be so willing to allow our ovaries to fail, instead we should look for ways to help them work better and for longer. ... Read more

Entertainment only, no literary value
This book can be an entertaining read if you have low literary expectations. The characters are very poorly drawn-- each individual is either perfectly noble and wonderful or evil and vindictive. The plot turns are similarly too melodramatic, though the story moves fast and keeps your attention.This type of story does have value in that it helps readers understand the day-to-day intellectual struggles people endured when considering the political issues that ultimately led to the Civil War.

Real excitement and an unbearable desire to know what happens next
I was happy to discover that the first book of Jakes's Civil War trilogy, North and South, is cast very much in the same mold as The Kent Family Chronicles. The book follows the story of two friends who enter West Point in 1842. Orry Main is a tall, skinny son of a South Carolina rice planter. George Hazard is the tough, stocky scion of a Pennsylvania iron fortune. Bound together by the common trials and tribulations of cadets, they become fast friends. Little do "Stick" and "Stump" suspect that the forces that will tear apart their boyish friendship and the nation they're both sworn to serve.
An entertaining, enjoyable, epic history novel
Good historical epic novel about two families intertwined by friendship but torn in the events leading up to the Civil War. History told at its best: as a complex and fascinating story through character drama. There are so many, many characters in this story, and all are so realistically drawn. Some are pure evil, some pure good, but most are full of the contradictions and complications of the period. Most are simply good people living in a morally complicated time, utterly confused as they try to find their positions and places in it. It's particularly difficult and complex regarding their relationships. Two families (the Mains and the Hazards) are bound by the friendship between their patriarchs, but are torn apart due to their cultural differences, as being from the South and North. Essentially, the characters and families stand as allegorical for their respective worlds. At the heart of the book is an important theme, it's harder to fight with someone when you know them as brother. People might be ashamed of their way of life, but when faced with the truth from outsiders who show them their own shame, they will not change. Fetter means "chain or shackle placed on ankle and feet".
Finally Free
Many thanks to Neil Anderson and his book, The Bondage Breaker. I was in bondage to food for over 50 years, until this book set me free. Satan is very skillful in finding our weaknesses and creating havoc for us. The Bondage Breaker helped me to remember that Christ died for my sins, so I could finally be free. I have stopped believing all of the lies and started living again.I also lost 50 lbs. in the process. I would recommend this book to anyone suffering from any type of bondage. As Neil promises, "Take all thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus and the truth will make you free."

Neil T. Anderson is as pure as pure gets!
This book is very helpful and inciteful. I was able to understand that I was not along with things that I was suffering. Jesus came to set us free. Free from what? Why did the Bible say that? We were all under Satans power. Why would we not have something that we need to be set free from? Don't let pride keep you from reading this book. Everyone can benifit from it. Even if you are a mature believer, you will be surprised at the change it can help make in your life. Be willing, open and honest - Jesus will set you free. Jesus is the deliver. Neil is a servent. He helps guide you into deeper understanding of who we are in Christ, and what has to change. Read it alone with the Lord, or have another Christian read along with you. A Different View of Enlightenment
Anyone on the path of enlightenment should add this course to their studies. It can be daunting at first to understand where Stephen is going with this technique. But as the listener continues on this tutorial, the stories he shares can be enjoyed while gathering information during his discourse for use in the normal meditation disciplines.
Not very good.
I don't know how many times I can listen to this guy ask "If you don't use your thoughts, memories, emotions, associations, or perceptions, how do you experience X". I don't know what this question is supposed to do for you or why he thinks that asking it over and over for different experiences does anything for anyone.

All Covey is saying in his longwinded book, basically, is this: Listen to the people you love. Put the family first in all your decisions. Blah blah blah and something about synergy.

We may never know
I read this book when it first came out and concluded there was too many questionable points that are hard to explain such as the gloves, the blood and 'his Bronco' leaving the scene etc.Since I am not a forensics expert, I will not attempt to decide guilt or innocence, evidence is there to prove the case, just too many questions.I am glad I was not on the jury.

Black Racism
All that this book does is confirm what everyone, (except a large proportion of the black population) knows - that Simpson butchered two people and got away with it. Excellent
