I got everthing I needed here
This has been money well spent,I am happy I got it and everyone who cant leave their car alone should own it. Not for the faint hearted or old fashioned fuel injection systems.

A good read, with a few shortcomings.
Overall this was a worthwhile book to read, especialy for someone like myself trying to learn a little more about engine tuning in general.I thought the author jumped around a bit on different topics, it could have flowed from one topic to another in a more logical order.There was also a bit of repetition, as though topics were pulled from previously written articles.I found the cases studies to be worthless - one or two would have sufficed.The font could also be a bit larger.Those nit pickings aside, I learned a great deal from this book, which was what I was hoping for.

Holy Cow Why Didn't I Find This Book Sooner?
I have a few books from the "Motorbooks Workshop" series and I am happy with all of them -in fact I'm kicking around the idea of building a library of them for myself, as they are all instant reference books full of valuable information. I could waste a weekend away just thumbing through them.

The 'Gold Standard' history of PMCC...
Simply the best, most comprehensive history of the Packard Motorcar Company, it's products, and it's creators.Lavishly illustrated, including many archival photos, full specs on all the models, and intricate details of the products and company...all the info anyone really needs on these fabulous cars, and much more than the total of all the 'Other' Packard books combined. A substantially sized book which befits the aura of the Company as well.My only concern in an otherwise well researched effort is the largely inaccurate reporting of the intentions behind the Studebaker merger debacle...something the excellent James Ward book covers quite well (and accurately). The Mini Cooper Bible Period!
If you do any type of work on your mini buy this book. Everyone from beginners to shadetree DIYers to experienced automotive techs could use this book.

Just changed my own clutch and brakes using this manual
Never worked on a front wheel drive car before (all old school here) and consider this manual the best investment I could have made before beginning a clutch replacement and new rotors and pads.

The new, new testament
This book is a must have for anyone in the crane industry, I train crane operators and the information is an invaluable resource which covers all aspects of cranage. It is well set out and concise, it covers everthing from basic safety principles through to complex engineering solutions. Save yourself some money in the long run by owning this book & teaching your operators and planners from the lessons learned by these guys. Your equipment will be preserved & costly mishaps will be avoided.

Good overall technical writting, Excellent, authoritative text on the subject
Well written, using language easily understood by the average technical reader with an interest in the field ( unlike many engineering tomes in my experience ).Also unlike many texts, proofreading and editing are skilled and thorough.Shapiro ackowledges in the preface to the first edition the roles of his co-author sons as "militant proponents of the clearly expressed thought".The success of that effort is obvious.Read more

THEEnergy Book Of Our Times
A while back an old sage once answered an economical question I had with this, "An economy based on WASTE". But he said it with a disgust I never quite understood. UNTIL NOW.And it is in book form, written by a very skilled writer, Edwin Black (eight Pulitzers and two National Book Award Nominations). Researched to an nth'degree, 19 pages of acknowledgements!. Many, many fascinating tidbits such as the word car that started out as horseless carraige to carraige to car for short. Or the red flag laws where a man had to run ahead of the car waving a red flag & blowing a horn to warn all in the cars path. It loaded with interesting stories and facts you've never heard of. The story about GM destroying the mass electric transit/cars in the U.S.- is alone worth the price. Very well written and informative, as in: "A century of lies about internal combustion arising from a millennium of monopolistic misconduct in energy has wounded the world's collective health, fractured a fragile enviroment, and ignighted a deadly petropolitical war that has become nothing less than a cataclysmic clash of civilizations." Or,"Internal combustion kills.Few of us realize that as we drive to non-smoking restaurants, everyone around us is inhaling gases as deadly as that in any cigarette". Or, "The implication was that in the thirties and forties, at a time when GM was undermining American transport and urban mass transit, the bus and auto giant was doing all in its power to enhance Reich transport".Or, "The single most fuel-inefficient undertaking on earth is arguably the heavily armed military convoy escorting oil tanker trucks in Iraq.More petroleum is undoubtedly consumed to protect the delivery than is carried in the tanker itself".Or that 'it takes 1.29 gallons of petroleum or petroleum equivalents to produce one gallon of ethanol'.(The Brazilians use sugar cane in a different process that is self sustaining and is explained in detail.) The author follows mankind from thousands of years ago to now as he continually misuses energy.He goes into the alternative energy sources: ocean thermal, geothermal, wind and solar, nanosolar.He devotes a whole chapter to hydrogen.His depiction of Honda's FCX hydrogen car is very very cool. In conclusion, the author stresses, there needs to be a public policy that excercises "sane" stewardship over energy and those who control it. A very informative and instructive read of the energy crisis that we as mankind face today. Highly recommended!!!!

Edwin Blacks Book could change the world-for the better
This book is an amazing expose of how power corruption and money took our country from using energy renewable resources to being an oil guzzing, air polluting and terror funding entity. This book shows how we got off the track of uning battery and electric energy sources, in order to support the economics of the middle east and the oil barons who profited from our use of fossil fuel.
Black is back with another gem!
This new Black gem is typical Edwin -a boldly written page-turner brightly illuminating past misdeeds and miscreants as an important lesson for the future. Few as good as this one
"Going Faster" is surely one of the best books ever written about the fundamentals of driving.While focusing on handling a car at speed on a track, each of these lessons applies to general handling in all situations.Situational awareness, looking ahead, picking the best line through a corner, understanding the car's grip and why smooth inputs matter so much.Everything is here.
Excelente Libro
Creo que he contado con suerte al seleccionar este libro como mi primer libro sobre conducci�n deportiva. Existen muchos libros que tratan el tema pero me dej� llevar por el buen nombre que tiene la Skip Barber Racing School y creo que hice muy bien. El libro cubre, creo yo, todo lo que en teor�a se deber�a saber a cerca de como correr en un auto de carreras, despu�s del libro s�lo queda poner en pr�ctica todas las cosas que se aprendieron, algo que obviamente es muy complicado, pero por lo menos al haber leido el libro ya te sientes con confianza de que no est�s actuando como un ser irracional al frente del volante de un auto de carreras. Yo aconsejo que lo compren y adem�s si tienen la opci�n de hacer el curso (yo no la tengo) lo hagan, creo que es uno de los m�s completos que hay en el mundo, lo digo porque he investigado el asunto por largo tiempo.

Good solid book
I'm not a mechanical engineer and I have been able to follow the book well. It goes really in depth in some places, so you have to know when to skip a few pages. But it is fine for a final year undergrad course, and I'm sure it would work for a grad course as well, but if you don't have a good math and science background (ie engineering), then just research www.howstuffworks.com and then subscribe to a few car magazines. There is a lot of practical info in here as well, but don't kid yourself, most of this is theoretical backround. I am an electrical engineer who wanted to get into hybrid vehicles, and I think if you are like me and want to just buy one book on ICEs, this is it.

A really scientific approach to the engine practice
This book is my Bible. It does not explain you how to add 2HP to the engine, it explains how all that works and why, with theory, numbers and serious real world tests. the Bible for engine related study and research

By far the most thorough resource on the subject
This is an excellent book for both the new guy and the veteran. At almost 500 pages, this is a very practical book that covers every aspect of truck driving and life on the road. In addition to basic operations, there is also plenty of detailed mechanical info on the inner workings of a truck. That will probably be of more interest to owner-operators than company drivers but it's good to know it's there in case you ever need it.My only complaint is that this book wasn't around when I started out. It definitely would've made for a much smoother transition into the 'industry'. Highly reccomended.

Great book for future Driver
If you have never driven a tractor trailer this is a great book. It covers everything from a drivers perspective. The truck itself including: Engines, Transmissions, Parts, Driving techniques, Hazmat, Airbrakes, Life on the road etc. What it does not cover in great detail is if you want to start your own trucking company, or authority. It touches on parts and mentions the D.O.T and FMCSR but mostly from the drivers interaction with those agencies, not as a trucking company. This book is for drivers behind the wheel on a day to day basis. Non-drivers will find it useful and insightful but if you are wishing to start your own company, It does not cover in detail the authorities you will need and actual details involved in doing so. The book never claims it does cover that information... this review is to let you know what is not in there in that regard. As a future driver, or someone interested in the actual day to day operations or the skills needed to operate a tractor trailer, this book is great and worthy of 5 stars.

not what i expected
i bought this book thinking that it would be a good refrence and guide for doing repairs and maintnence on my79 300d. in reading the reveiws on amazon i got that empresion. not exactly. it is collaberation of articles in a mecedes magazine. yes it may have some helpful info, and some tecnical gudance, but it is not necessarly going to have your spacific problem. if you are lookiing for a complete guide to repairs and maintnece this is not your book.

Wonderful
Even though my model wasn't covered very much, the Companion had a lot of pertinent information. I would recommend it for anyone who has an older Mercedes and likes to do their own work.

Binding Problem Resolved . . great book
I'm writing primarily because I bought this book anyway even though others were warning of the binding.My copy is fine--perhaps they fixed it.
Good content, incredibly poor binding

Not what I needed
I was looking for hardcore material on OBD. I too was fooled by the preview. You can find the same info on the Internet. The book publishers have done a fantastic job of packaging and making an ordinary book with common information look exceptional. What people want to know is how to use the information in the powertrain control module to solve problems. This book simply tells you what's available in OBD 2 not what to do with the info. Pages are devoted to OBD 2 codes that can be found on the Internet. If you need a glossy intro to OBD 2 this is it.

Doesn't deliver the goods
This book doesn't reveal any secrets,or for that matter much information. It is rather long on OBD II theory and has a fairly good chapter on scan tool selection but falls far short in the diagnostic department. I had hoped this book would have information on acceptable sensor values, troubleshooting / diagnostic charts, etc.As far as diagnosis goes, this book is just one small step ahead of a trouble code chart. Since most of the newer scan tools incorporate this information in the tool itself I would recommend that you save the price of this book and apply it to a better tool.

Not what I expected
I thought from reading the sample pages that this book would explain codes and a brief explanation as to what to check for each code. It was more of an overview of ODBII with some details I could use.

Superb.
I have many of the how-to books for motorcycle riding. This is by far the best one.

Buy it, read it, live it!

Totally Clueless
If you read, or are at least amused by, the lunacy of San Francisco newspapers, then you'll understand the title to this review.Ms. Prange is a regular contributior to the Letters to the Editor page.She lives in an alternate universe where reality has no meaning.However, consistent whining, paranoia, and conspiracy theories abound.I can't imagine anyone following her advice or that of her husband based on their irrational logic.And you want to get behind the wheel of a car designed by them? I believe Ms. Prange's latest project is constructing a house that resembles a pair of Birkenstocks.

Its a start, but.....I want to convert my car to hybrid
Conversion to electric cars is a step in the right direction, but even an electric car has to be charged. What does one do when local electricity costs are sky high? While electric cars have their place, more immediate and practical methods may better inspire society at large to consider and implement ideas of fuel efficiency and sustainability.
A Classic
Having built and developed several electrical vehicles and prototypes, I put this book up there among the classics as a good introduction for anyone interested in building an electrical conversion vehicle.I worked on my first vehicle in 1989 and I wish that I had some of the helpful hints that are provided in this book to asist me along.By the way, ironically, possessing two PhD,s ; one in in Electrical Engineering, I have been struck by lightening twice. Excellent resource
This tape series is wonderful! I had a few years of high school spanish but was very rusty.I used these tapes to brush up.After listening to them over and over, I am able to speak pretty fluently with clients at work. The 2 speakers on the tape are enjoyable and professional in the way they interact.I feel like I know them personally, by now! It is nice to hear a native speaker as well as an american born person say the words and phrases.

Learning Spanish Made Fun and Easy, and most of all, Affordable
This is one of my favorite Spanish courses. I have learned lots of Spanish from it. But what's most important about this course is that Mark Frobose uses a method that not only teaches you Spanish but also helps you retain it. I recommend this course to any that is looking to learn Spanish fast but is not looking to spend lots of money to learn it.

FANTASTICO !
I have several others CD's that I do not use b/c they are boring.However, when I saw the reviews on this I decided to take a chance.It is wonderful.Head & shoulders above the others I have.Really an excellent supplement to my spanish language lessons (or it would be very fine by itself I think).

helping me understand how a car operates
I changed jobs and became a parts delivery person.The knowledge I have received from the book as helped me in knowing what my customers are talking about and thus can relate messages to the sales staff.For my job and personally, I like knowing what the function of the parts are and where they are located. I am so glad to have the book. It was well written and made learning easy.

Too much old crap and unnecessary info!
The diagrams in the book where nice, but man this guy isn't an author. You can tell he knows what he is talking about but he just uses a lot of lingo. Thankfully, there is a glossary, but it takes too long to look up every word. He just tells you the different parts in mechanisms. He doesn't really explain how anything works. By the way, he has like 5 nicknames for every part. If you are a beginner too complex, if your an expert you probably know this stuff. If you have the money and your an amateur go ahead. If none of the above I wouldn't suggest this book.

No good
The author is an owner and operator of a tutoring center. He is not an expert in auto mechanics.As he points out on the back cover the pictures and the concepts were for teenage boys and the accompanying graphics are of poor quality.

Nice
Quality pastel renders par usual with this art of something Pixar. The color theory alone in this book is worth every penny. Great stuff to continue to inspire us fellow artists. One regret, they need to start putting some of the 3-D stills in the book since their work is unlike anything else out there. Overall, a must buy for the artist reference library.

The new animated movie CARS comes at you all finished and complete. This is how it came about.
Beautifully illustrated
I purchased this originally, because as well as being a fan of the movie, "Cars", I am an up and coming animator and am very interested in all aspects of animation. In the description it told me the book tells of how the original idea was made into a film and the steps and research taken to do so, so I bought it.
