GERMAN PERFECTION
Let me confess right off, I absolutely love cars designed by Porsche, I have always found the car to be sexy and elegant.When i see someone pull up next to me in a Carerra with the top down, I just sit and stare with envey.As for this book, it is quite simply fantastic, it is easy to read and well researched, almost scholarly and the images are crisp and well placed throughout the book.You see the evolution of the automaker and get a real feel for what has made the company so successful.If you have any interest in Porsche or just cars in general, then I highly recommend this book...pricy yes, but well worth it...the car and this book.

I bought this book as my main reference for a paper I am writing about Porsche for business class, but my use for this book will not end there.I found this book not only informative, but interesting, and insightful.The pictures were plentiful, but not over done, beautiful, and well described.I will undoubtedly have this book for the rest of my life, and is a must for every car-enthusiast!!

Muy buen libro, simple, bién explicado, con buenas fotografías
Muy buen libro, refleja claridad de ideas y sus recomendaciones son de gran utilidad. A pesar de estar en idioma inglès, se entiende perfectamente. Las fotografías son las adecuadas para este tipo de libro y ayudan mucho. El autor hace recomendaciones de productos y herramientas necesarias para llevar a cabo los procedimientos descriptos. Me parece de lo mejor para llegar a reconstruir el motor del escarabajo. Bien redactado, aborda el tema sin caer en detalles superfluos. Lo recomiendo.

From a Porsche 914 Point Of View
My opinion of this very useful book is from a Porsche 914 perspective. This book is going to really cover the basics and give a good overview of what you're getting into. I really like the breakdown of the book and the photos. Yet, if the photos could be color it would be better - but the detail of the B&W give a fine detail of each step.Of course most 914 nuts are going to buy anything that will help them with any aspect of the 914. For a general book, I think it takes a good "how to" stand on each section of the engine rebuild.

This is a great one
Of all the vw books I own (a lot) this has been the most useful so far. I cant find the info for rebuilding an engine to stock condition anywhere else not even in the rightly fabled Bentley manuals. Excellent
An spectacular book, with amazing photos and very quality printing. It became fast part of my car books collection.

The Car Design Yearbook 4
This volume continues the format and quality of volumes 1-3, with the same strengths (beautiful photos, appealing coffee table appearance, etc.) and weaknesses (commentary isn't always helpful; every car gets about the same depth of coverage, whether it's a production-ready Fiat or an amazing concept car). If you liked the earlier editions, you'll enjoy this one too.

This is one of the coolest yearbooks around, especially if you like to stay updated on cars that came out last year. These books are excellent reference for years to come.

Encouraging book
The best thing about this book is that it is very encouraging to fearful drivers.Its message is that you can be happy just being a neighborhood driver, and if careful, you will probably never have an accident near your own neighborhood.This is very good news, however, I'm not so sure how true it is, considering the number of teenagers getting into accidents in my neighborhood.I am a careful driver, but if a maniac teenager hits me, I will get into an accident anyway.The other great thing about the book is its tips for preventing accidents, such as stopping is not always the right thing to do, look in the mirror often, put your car over the black shadow on the road to stay in your lane, etc.From my experience driving with an instructor for over 40 hours, Mr. Klein's tips are valid and useful, and include mistakes I've made.However, his section on steering really confused me.You cannot learn to steer from a book.You need to feel the car and drive to learn to steer.Overall, I am happy with the book's message that I can drive if I tried.

This book is awesome
I am in my late 20's and since I came here in US I have always been scared of learning how to drive. I tried to practice with my husband but oftentimes I get frustrated with myself. I just bought this book a week ago and I started practicing this weekend. I have let go of my fear (which to me a good start). I focus on the road and stop watching the nose of the car and it made a lot of difference. I am going to work on my turns still but I am excited to learn more.
Easy to read, informative
I really liked this book. I'm in my 20's and have been avoiding the task of getting my driver's license. I think I was mostly scared of it out of lack of knowledge. I never knew how I was supposed to steer or turn. Noone ever explained it to me either. My state's driving manual wasn't much help. It's as if it is assumed that everyone knows this to begin with. On the road I would panic because I really didn't know what I was supposed to do. Then I found this book, and the author explains quite a few things! Not only does he go through driving rules in more detail than there would be in a manual, but he also gives instructions for how to steer, whether it be when you are going straight, turning left or right, parking (angular, parallel), or making a k-turn. There is also a diagram to help you identify the parts under your hood, and even a whole chapter about driving stick shift. Even though reading is different from actually driving, just being given that knowledge makes me feel more confident about learning to drive. This author repeats information alot, but I think it is a good way for the reader to really remember the points that he makes. One of those points he stresses is that no matter how scared you are, the only way to get over it is to just do what you are scared of. He says that as scared as you are, he has taught many people who were also scared how to drive, and even the worst drivers were able to get their licenses because of their determination. They may not feel able to use highways, but they are still able to get around locally. There were some people he taught who had more potential but never got their licenses because they gave up. He actually gives several case examples of people he taught. Though the author identifies his audience as being predominantly older females, this book is really for anyone with a fear of driving. tittled incorrectly
pitiful.this is a short intro to primitive psyc behavior on personal awareness for the road.if it has anything to do with trucking, i missed it.

More BS from a "wanna be"....(who could'nt take it...)
After reading this book (and surviving 29 years in the trucking industry) I am greatly inclined to agree with Mr. Pendergast's points of view. Too much is wasted on trying to fit in with a lifestyle that needs to change, not "be adjusted" to. Sweatshops on Wheels was the definitive book on the current "race to the bottom" of the trucking industry. Want poor wages (when you add up your TOTAL time put in) and NO life ? No real health benefeits or pension (if your non-union) ? Then by all means come join us in the trucking industry and completely throw your life away. Everyone TALKS about doing something to help the driver, but as usual nothing is ever done. Truck drivers are STILL the ONLY labor group in the United States NOT covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. And this book still does'nt address that..

Think Twice Before Becoming a Trucker, Sonny
The author expresses genuine concern for the welfare of those who may be considering a career in what is the modern-day equivalent of indentured servitude. However, after surviving for many years in the trucking biz, I'd advise all but the most desperate job-seekers to steer clear of the cesspool known as over-the-road trucking. Now, if you enjoy being treated like an animal, enjoy being treated like a common criminal, enjoy surviving on a fat-laden junk food diet and enjoy living on 4-5 hours of sleep every day, then by all means, join up.

the missing links
Great book, and even if only 10% of it happened, the average person would be crapping their pants in those situations.What I'd REALLY like to read is those thousand+ hours of tape transcripts.It would likely provide some of the missing links to further details as mentioned by other reviewers here.

Pretty good, quick read!
Doesn't get bogged down in a lot of details; however, because of this, it feels a little 'bare bones'...but this is probably because of disclosure issues and confidential materials.

Amazing Bravery
Thank God for William Queen!!!I just finished his book -Under and Alone - and am amazed at what this man went through to get the bad guys.What a great human being!I loved that part at the end of the book where he writes about knowing that these were serious bad guys that needed to be put away - but there was another factor - after living with them for 2 1/2 years he had witnessed it, lived it, felt it, and understood the love that these guys felt for their brothers, him included. That gave me goosebumps.There was a thin line there for him.Not everything is black or white.Sometimes there is that gray area.I hope that he remains safe and can have happiness in his life.He certainly deserves it!!! ... A Cook-Book of Mathematical Formulae
I cannot imagine that this book has been written by Van Trees. I was a fan of him after studying his 1st and third volumes during my MSc, but taking a course on Array Signal Proc. and Adaptive Array Sig. Proc. in the next one, i was ehgulfed in mathematics and only mathematics, with no intuitional background at all. The author only has given mathematics, not have grip on the theoretical concepts or may be he has failed to convey them. I will never tell anybody about this book for this course, its for sure.

A great book with the right stuff.
I've read Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost" and this new book by Warner is far superior.Where Bell includes a lot of personal opinion and unsubstantiated information, Warner sticks completely to the facts.Better yet, Warner's book is much more up-to-date, with current information on components, EFI, and tuning.It's a model of clear and precise writing.Anyone seriously interested in turbocharger systems should get this book.

Excelent for learning about the turbos with the last information available
I think that this book is meaby the best in the market in the Turbo Area that it is selling today , and if you add that is was release anly at june 2006 , you can notice that it have the last information available in the tech area.
I liked it.

Become an Informed Driver
This book was very knowledgeable on the ways cops obtain your speed as well as the faults in the types of ways they obtain it. Along with using correct and "street" terminology, it talks about the different types of radar used to pick up your speed and how they obtain your speed by pacing you. There are MANY faults and this book just confirms my prior thoughts that tickets are purely a money making scam not only for the police but for the insurance agencies as well. If nothing else buy it to be prepared when you do get pulled over as it gives you good tips on how to get away from a ticket at this early stage to. 4 out of 5 only because it does not list laws from every state just some laws from some states.
