Fabulous!
I bought this book for my brother's 50th bday, who happens to own a 50th anniversay corvette.The photography is absolutely fabulous.Page after page of beautiful color photos.Also has all the specs from each year.Very interesting read also.I highly recommend. A great book for an inexpensive price.

if you are a corvette fan, or just an auto fan, you must have this book. it covers corvettes from 1953 to 2003 with entries of the designers and their drawings and models, dream and show cars, race cars, and production models. it covers all these with beautiful color photos and in-detail descriptions. it even has each model years statistics. this being a 50th anniversary edition will only make it more valuable as time goes by.

A must for C5 owners
As a proud owner of a new C5 Corvette, a friend of mine bought this book for me. After a few hours, I finally set it down only to see his 3 year old daughter spill a glass of milk all over it. So I had no choice but to immediately buy another!

One of my Favs
It is everything and more than I expected to find in a Mercedes tome. Having read several books on the subject I find this one to be the most informative. The early years are covered well.

Truly Exquisite
This book is a joy to have. Well written and beautifully illustrated, I found this book a pleasure to own. As a dedicated Benz owner, I can appreciate the attention to detail that exists in this book.
Almost as heavy as the car!
The amount of factual material lavished in this tome about the origins of the motor car and the search for excellence via the Mercedes Benz brand should keep the afficianado glued for hours.The pictures are also excellent.Written in about three or four languages within the same book, the descriptions are backed by photographs - good ones charting the evolution of the Merc from the 19th century right to the modern sleek saloon.I think this is very much for the Mercedes buff or collector and I bought it as a gift.I think this book would be good if it showed how the Merc could grow some wings and start being more in harmony with the Earth's environment based on what sort of fuel it burns and fuel efficiency rather than just talk about technical specifications in self congratulatory terms.Still this book is about "man's" achievement with the motor car and there are things in this which you could admire. ... Excellent gift
I bought "The Cobra in the Barn" book for my husband.He loves it!

Good Coffee Table Book
Good book for the waiting room of an upscale independent auto repair shop or the "reading room" in you own home; i.e. circumstances where you don't expect to read a book cover to cover.Some of the vignettes are very well written.Some are not.The latter fact is more noticeable because they all have the same story line.Several of those near the end of the book immerse the reader in minutiae about a particular car's history that only that car's owner could possibly care about.Overall, I enjoyed the portions I read, but will pass it on to a friend confident that he will do the same when he's finished with it.

A fun, light read for a car guy like me
I have scouted, searched, and on occasion bought an old car that has been sitting somewhere without a "for sale" sign on it. This book reads like the journal I'd like to write.The cars and their circumstances are mostly unique situations, and the lost/found and long term pursuit angles are the best.For the most part the buyers have a genuine interest, if not a personal one, in the cars they seek.Thankfully, the megabucks trophy collectors and hoarders who fill their warehouses (and ruin it for most everyone else) don't dominate the book.

the textbook on Bosch fuel injection
Written as a textbook and how-to. Good illustrations.Best when used with the Bosch factory manual

Very good book
I bought this book as a companion to my VW Vanagon book.Since I was new to fuel injection, and the Vanagon book had little/no troubleshooting information, I was completely stumped with fuel injection/ignition problems after a major overhaul of my '85 waterboxer engine.The Bosch book was a life saver. Not only did I (quickly) get my engine running, but I now understand how the whole thing works.Even for people who don't have Bosch systems and want to learn how fuel injection works, this is a good book.

Great book, but...
This is an excellent book detailing the theory of operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Bosch fuel injection systems. It covers in great detail all models of the Bosch systems. The modifing and tuning chapter is a bit lacking, though. It gives you some ideas about how to modify the system, but doesn't go into very much detail. The part I was most looking forward to reading about was recalibrating the air flow meter. The book only had three paragraphs on recalibration and didn't even touch on how to do it. A message to kidmonk
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I appreciate the sentiment, but would take issue with the point you make regarding the lack of US member inclusion. As you may know, the HAMC are a world wide club and as such, any 'snapshot' of the club could represent the club as a whole. With this in mind, I would encourage you to go through the book again, and see it as it was meant to be....a motorcycle club without boundries.

not enough bang in a book about a subject that is pure fire
although this book features great and at times candid photography it is handicapped by attempting to deal with a worldwide phenomenon (the hells angels mc) through the eyes of only its UK members...the angels though now global are a pure american institution...they could not have been founded anywhere else in the world with the same results...so it is unfortunant that such a wonderful idea as using unbiased photography to bring the club to life was used in such a limited capacity...the hamc deserves a massive work in this vein...any attempt to bring the angels to the general public without including at least a glimpse of its american roots stands only to leave a sense of unfinshed business in its wake... ... SHH, Here Lies the Librarian
It's 1914 in Hendricks County, Indiana, and Jake and PeeWee McGrath run a garage for those newfangled automobiles. PeeWee, aka Eleanor, doesn't plan to go to high school. She will stay with her older brother and help run the garage, only her brother is a better mechanic. Then four sorority sisters from Butler University in Indianapolis arrive and plan to reopen the town library. Excitement abounds with a rival garage attempting to destroy the McGrath's business and an automobile race that makes NASCAR look like a Sunday drive. If you enjoyed Peck's The Teacher's Funeral, you will love this one. The relationship between Jake and Eleanor is strong and loving. This is a nostalgic and humorous look at the early 20th century.

Okay read
I looked for this book specifically for a library science assignment, and was excited about reading it.I really wanted to enjoy and like it!However, once I got into it, I found it disjointed with no visible plot.The setting, the early 1900's, is one I'm not sure children will understand.The language often seemed contrived and difficult, with a lot of dialect, and I often had to go back and re-read sections in order to understand what had happened.I wonder if the age group it is intended for will take the time to go back, or put it down for a more comfortable read.Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this book to my students.Even though there were a few humorous moments, they were few and far between.As my students are fond of saying, "I just don't get it!"

Wherein chauffeurs collect library fines
Do you ever get the impression that an author is trying just a little too hard to get the attention of their librarian readers?I don't think this happens much in the world of adult literature, but when it comes to kiddie lit, writers sometimes verge on the shameless.Now I was willing to look past Kimberly Willis Holt's paean to the glory of librarians everywhere in "Part of Me", and the non-fiction true tale of librarian heroism, "Dear Miss Breed" by Joanne Oppenheim could certainly slip by on my watch.But recently I've been doubling back and rereading some of the children's books that came out in early 2006.Of those books, one that I missed early on in the game was Richard Peck's, "Here Lies the Librarian", courtesy of Dial Books.Mr. Peck has written a wham-bam, rock `em, sock `em tale of hard core drag racing librarianship.Though still better (as anyone who reads his books regularly will tell you) than 92% of the schlock printed yearly, Peck's latest venture carries with it the faintest odor of familiarity.Basically, if you perused and enjoyed his previous book, "The Teacher's Funeral", then there's probably little reason to go on to this title as well unless you like to regularly douse yourself in Peck's pleasant wordplay.

Incomplete
Book itself is very informative, however there is a problem with representation of it being passed off as "new". First copy came without a dust jacket, hard cover had corner bumps and scuffs. Replacement copy came the exact same way, in the same condition and without the DJ. Cost of book is $50.00 NEW, had we wanted the book in used condition without the original DJ, we would have ordered it as such. The minimal refund Amazon offered was not to our satisfaction and the reps and/or management are too busy to make personal contact with their business customers. There appears to be an internal problem with receiving/quality inspection of their supplier's goods.

Well written, interesting book
Yes, I have also read Diesel's Engine by Lyle Cummins, the youngest son of Clessie Cummins, the co-founder of Cummins Engine.If, in reading DE, I am a proven crazy person, then I am, so discount what I say next.If one is fascinated by diesel engines, then this is a "must read."I have not completed the book yet, but having read 300 or so pages and I must say there is much beyond the engines.If you are a Harvard Business Review type, this will have much for you about entrepreneurism, the family business, enterprise capitalization, growth, corporate strategy, the inventor and his role in a technology driven business, timliness, single business small town employers, transportation trends, product quality, employee relations and more. I like reading about successes, but feel like this book portrays an almost charmed life of something impossible to duplicate.If every corporation were as successful as Cummins is portrayed, then we would reach corporate nirvana.Can what has been written here be true?Buy the book, write your own review, and we'll see what you think. ... TEXAS STATE OF MIND

DAt's what BFG say.The man is a GENIUS.This book is a fascinating read, and shines a whole new light on that little old band from Texas. I've always loved ZZ Top, but now I have a whole new respect for Billy Gibbons- the guy just oozes soul, is so understated yet so creative.This book shows how detail oriented, how creative, and how cool the man is.A great artist, a gearhead, and most importantly a genius on the gee-tar.Gotta love his life story.Buy it!

ZZ Top Fan Must Read!
If you are a ZZ Top fan,this book is a must read for you--it shows some of the private side of "The Reverend Billy G" and some of his passions on guitar and car collecting--although not really diving into the bands personna as much as I would have liked, seeing this side of one of Rocks "Major" influences was a very nice read---plus it is a nice bargain at Amazon--I was very pleased to get this book--I first saw this book at a guitar show in Orlando and when I was upset at myself for not buying it at the show I went to the Amazon site and purchased it for 15 bucks cheaper!Shazaaam!I had a friend of mine once tell me that before I buy any book to always check Amazon first--I guess she wasn't wrong--anyway--a really nice book that will draw much attention if left on a coffee table when guests are over-- ... i think the book is great and informative
i want to see where the starter is located on the 1989 toyota camr

Terrible choice!!!!!! I'll try to return it!!!!
One star is way too much for this book. I got the newest version three days ago and it was like getting a repair manual for a toy. I've got a Camry 91 with a v6 engine and this book had virtually nothing I could use.Not even a decent set of diagrams and instructions to replace the sparkplugs...!!!! Forget about anything else like a CV boot replacement or atiming belt replacement. I hope the publisher sees my review.

AWFUL! Do not buy this book!!!!!!
This must be the most useless book I have every seen on auto maintenance and repair. If you're looking for any info on your Camry, look elsewhere. Due to the nature of the book (13 years of camry), you will not find *ANY*specifics on your particular model. No part numbers listed anywhere in themanual. Diagrams are ambiguous at best. One of the Two
If you're brave enough to take on the care, maintenance, and/or restoration of an old VW bus, this book, along with John Muir's How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive, is a must-have.While Muir provides the how-to, the Official Service Manual provides the what and where one needs to care for an old VW.I've owned a lot of them (VWs and books).Get this one up-front and save yourself a lot of grief.

Useful, Recommended, but with Caveats
This book has its uses.If you have a need to do moderately extensive work on your VW yourself, it's probably wise to have this book in your shop.It's inferior to John Muir's classic Idiot's Guide (ISBN 0945465122 ) in terms of providing effective ways of repairing your VW (not to mention less fun), but it works well as a supplement to the Idiot's Guide.It's a good secondary reference when using the Idiot's Guide as a primary manual for maintenance & repair.For instance, the Service Manual will often contain illustrations of tiny parts within parts that are lacking in the Idiot's Guide, which can be useful when trying to visualize how things fit together.When something goes wrong, turn to the Idiot's Guide first; when you want a little more padding to get your head around a problem, the Service Manual is often just the ticket.In short, something to keep in the garage rather than in the bus (as you should do at all times with the Idiot's Guide).Highly recommended for this purpose.

Modern Automotive Technology
I read this book as part of a college class, I enjoyed the detail and step-by-step education it gave. The ASE Review questions and chapter review helped pin point areas that needed more study. Two negative points I should tell you about there is no answers to the review questions in this book and no NATF Outline for areas you need to know per (ASE) areas of knollege, (A1-A8). For a Basic to Mid Level education in Auto Mechanics this book covered what was needed. In this Day of buying alot of books to get an education. Buying one well rounded book Helped keep the money in my pocket.

Informitive and detailed
This book is great for the beginner or the semi-experienced.There is a lot of useful information and detail.Some aspects are outdated but overall the book is very accurate.Keep in mind this is a textbook and it reads like one.However, if auto mechanics is your interest then you should have no problem enjoying this book. ... Bad Reference!!
This book is chock full of errors. I don't have any faith in the contents of this book. Color codes of wires are incorrect in troubleshooting areas, and there is poor coverage of all model years, especially newer ones. The book tells you what fault codes are but it does not tell you how to access them. I own two Hondas and I end up using the internet to get the information this book, more often than not, neglects to include. Purchase at your own risk -- it's too bad that it is the only book on the market for many Honda models.

Better than Hays
This is a fair book. Deffinatly better than Hays. Where hays explanes things in one sentence Chilton uses an entire paragraph. However it does not contain all the diagnosis I wanted and it is plagued with misprints andoccasionaly contridicts itself.

Poor graphics, lack of detail, poor coverage of all models.
This was disappointing.The "Total Car Care" repair manual had non-detailed drawings instead of photos leaving you with only a vague idea of where the part that you are looking for is in relation to the rest ofyour car.The text was about as good as the graphics... it could have beenmore detailed and/or descriptive.Another probelm was that the graphicsgave only a single example of the procedure being described (as shown forthe '84-'87 CRX... not very helpful to orient you to a 95 Civic).Comparedto the other manuals that I have seen (Haynes and Clymer mostly) this oneleft alot to be desired at about twice the price.This one will give you aballpark idea of what you will need to do to fix your Honda, but I wouldconsider purchasing a single-model specific repair manual at a cheaperprice. ...
